This collection consists of papers and printed materials related to the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and Black Lung Association. It also includes newspapers and legal documents related to the UMWA elections, Joseph A. Yablonski, Mingo County, and the protests against strip mining in Appalachia.

A slide-tape presentation of the history of the United Mine Workers of America, produced by the staff of the United Mine Workers Journal, entitled "Proud To Be A Miner". The program deals both with the historical problems that lead to the founding of the union and its early struggles as well as the more recent rank and file movements such as the Miners for Democracy, Black Lung Association, and the wildcat strikes of 1972-76. This collection comprises a set of transparencies, one cassette tape, and a typescript of narration.

Two brochures, four and six pages respectively, produced by the West Virginia Black Lung Association regarding black lung medical benefits and how disabled miners can apply for them. Some of the information is presented in cartoon form. There are also six miscellaneous pages, and six metal plates that were used to produce the publication.
