Hydrothermal oxidation (OVH: “Oxydation par Voie Humide”) is an innovative technology used for waste water treatment, which is presented as an alternative to sewage sludge spreading and incineration. This process generates a fine-grain (D50 = 2 μm) mineral by-product, which is very useful for the ceramics industry due to its high content in argillaceous elements, quartz, phosphate and calcium carbonate. Therefore, this work describes the recycling of this OVH residue in the ceramics industry, and more particularly in the manufacture of calcareous earthenware wall tiles. The residue can be combined with a white calcareous earthenware body up to a level of 7% without significant colorimetric deterioration, and if this is raised to 15%, it is possible to completely replace the crushed chalk, some of the quartz and reduce costly imported tight-burning clays by 6%. The developed body exceeds standardised requirements (modulus of rupture: + 40%; moisture swelling and glaze quality), which means that a 20°C reduction in firing temperature might be envisaged. An industrial pilot test of 1500 kg conducted by the DESVRES site managers with 100 m2 of tiles (format: 15 x 20 cm) confirmed these laboratory results, in particular validating the absence of rheological disturbance of the slip and the harmlessness of the addition on the maturing glaze quality. Furthermore, the nature of the fumes emitted in the test complied with current regulations, and the finished product did not exceed the thresholds defined by European regulations for inert waste classification.La oxidación hidrotérmica (OVH: “Oxydation par Voie Humide” u oxidación por vía húmeda) es una tecnología innovadora usada en la depuración de las aguas residuales, que se presenta como alternativa al esparcimiento y a la incineración de los lodos de aguas negras. Este proceso genera un producto derivado de mineral de grano fino (D50 = 2 μm) que es muy útil para la industria cerámica debido a su elevado contenido en elementos arcillosos, cuarzo, fosfato, y carbonato de calcio. Por tanto, este trabajo proporciona una descripción del proceso de reciclaje de este residuo de OVH en la industria cerámica, y más concretamente en la fabricación de azulejos de pasta calcárea. Se puede combinar el residuo con una pasta de azulejo calcárea hasta un contenido del 7% sin que se produzca un deterioro colorimétrico significativo y, si se aumenta hasta el 15%, es posible sustituir por completo la caliza triturada, algo del cuarzo y, además, reducir el alto coste de las arcillas vitrificadas de importación en un 6%. El soporte desarrollado supera los requisitos de la normativa (modulo de ruptura: + 40%; dilatación por humedad y calidad del esmalte), lo que significa que se podría prever una reducción de 20°C en la temperatura de cocción. Un ensayo piloto a nivel industrial, de 1500 kg, llevado a cabo por los gestores de las instalaciones de DESVRES con 100 m2 de baldosas (formato: 15 x 20 cm) confirmó estos resultados de laboratorio, validando, en particular, la ausencia de una perturbación de la barbotina y la inocuidad del material incorporado en la calidad de maduración del esmalte. Además, la naturaleza de los gases emitidos durante el ensayo cumplió con la normativa vigente, y el producto acabado no sobrepasó los umbrales de tolerancia definidos por la Normativa Europea para la clasificación de los residuos inertes.

Depression can lead to sleep problems, which can increase the risk of developing depressive symptoms. However, it is unclear which United States (US) sub-population was most affected by depression and sleep problems during the pandemic.Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis using self-reported data from the 2021 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), focusing on adults aged 18 years and above (n=29,763). We utilized self-reported responses to questions about prescription medication and frequency of depressive feelings to determine participants’ depression status. Appropriate weights were applied to account for the sampling design of the surveys. Our analysis involved descriptive statistics and chi-squared tests to compare sociodemographic, clinical, behavioral, and sleep-related characteristics between US adults with and without depression. Additionally, logistic regression was used to examine the associations between sleep duration, sleep quality and depression.Results: The overall prevalence of depression in our sample was 44.4%. It were higher in certain demographic groups, including younger adults (18– 39 years, 47.7%), non-Hispanic whites (47.9%), females (50.1%), those at the lower income bracket (52.2%), those with no college or degree (48.7%) uninsured individuals (45.2%), and those reporting poor general health (71.9%). Individuals with depression had a 12% increased odds of experiencing short sleep (aOR: 1.12, 95% CI:1.04– 1.20, p< 0.001), 34% increased odds of experiencing long sleep (aOR: 1.34, 95% CI: 1.20– 1.50, p < 0.001) and more than 2.5 fold increased odds of reporting poor sleep quality (aOR:2.57, 95% CI: 2.40– 2.78; p< 0.0001). In the multivariate analysis, all variables (sex, race/ethnicity, education, health insurance coverage, marital status, general health status and use of sleep medications, smoking and alcohol use status) were significantly predictors of poor sleep quality, with the exceptions of age and family income.Conclusion: The findings emphasize the need to address sleep health in treating depression, especially during times of public health crises.Keywords: depression, sleep health, sleep hygiene, sleep disparities, sleep quality, COVID-19

Truck platooning is a recent solution proposed to optimise road transportation. Platooning can help improve transport efficiency and road safety, reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption and greenhouse gases emissions. Considering that truck platoon configurations are new, studying their impact on pavement response and damage is crucial. In this context, this study presents the results obtained in a full-scale experiment designed to evaluate the structural responses of a test track subjected to the pass of trucks under two configurations: individual and platoon. The pavement was instrumented to measure the transverse and longitudinal strains at the bottom of the asphalt layers of the pavement structure. Strains were measured under two test configurations, individual trucks and platoons, for four vehicle speeds: 40 , 60 , 70 , and 80 km/h. In order to consider the weather influence, two test campaigns were performed, one during the winter and the other during the summer. The study's main conclusion is that by managing inter-truck distances, truck speeds, lateral deviation (wandering), time, and periods of circulation, it is possible to minimise the impact of platooning trucks on the pavement's structure responses.
