Present and next generation of long-baseline accelerator experiments are bringing the measurement of neutrino oscillations into the precision era with ever-increasing statistics. One of the most challenging aspects of achieving such measurements is developing relevant systematic uncertainties in the modeling of nuclear effects in neutrino-nucleus interactions. To address this problem, state-of-the-art detectors are being developed to extract detailed information about all particles produced in neutrino interactions. To fully profit from these experimental advancements, it is essential to have reliable models of propagation of the outgoing hadrons through nuclear matter able to predict how the energy is distributed between all the final-state observed particles. In this article, we investigate the role of nuclear de-excitation in neutrino-nucleus scattering using two Monte Carlo cascade models: NuWro and INCL coupled with the de-excitation code ABLA. The ablation model ABLA is used here for the first time to model de-excitation in neutrino interactions. As input to ABLA, we develop a consistent simulation of nuclear excitation energy tuned to electron-scattering data. The paper includes the characterization of the leading proton kinematics and of the nuclear cluster production during cascade and de-excitation. A major problem that resulted from the massive use of social media networks is the diffusion of incorrect information. However, very few studies have investigated the impact of incorrect information on individual and collective decisions. We performed experiments in which participants had to estimate a series of quantities before and after receiving social information. Unbeknownst to them, we controlled the degree of inaccuracy of the social information through "virtual influencers", who provided some incorrect information. We find that a large proportion of individuals only partially follow the social information, thus resisting incorrect information. Moreover, we find that incorrect social information can help a group perform better when it overestimates the true value, by partly compensating a human underestimation bias. Overall, our results suggest that incorrect information does not necessarily impair the collective wisdom of groups, and can even be used to dampen the negative effects of known cognitive biases.

Social media filters combined with recommender systems can lead to the emergence of filter bubbles and polarized groups. In addition, segregation processes of human groups in certain social contexts have been shown to share some similarities with phase separation phenomena in physics. Here, we study the impact of information filtering on collective segregation behavior. We report a series of experiments where groups of 22 subjects have to perform a collective segregation task that mimics the tendency of individuals to bond with other similar individuals. More precisely, the participants are each assigned a color (red or blue) unknown to them, and have to regroup with other subjects sharing the same color. To assist them, they are equipped with an artificial sensory device capable of detecting the majority color in their ``environment'' (defined as their $k$ nearest neighbors, unbeknownst to them), for which we control the perception range, $k=1,3,5,7,9,11,13$. We study the separation dynamics (emergence of unicolor groups) and the properties of the final state, and show that the value of $k$ controls the quality of the segregation, although the subjects are totally unaware of the precise definition of the ``environment''. We also find that there is a perception range $k=7$ above which the ability of the group to segregate does not improve. We introduce a model that precisely describes the random motion of a group of pedestrians in a confined space, and which faithfully reproduces and allows to interpret the results of the segregation experiments. In our digital and connected societies, the development of social networks, online shopping, and reputation systems raises the question of how individuals use social information, and how it affects their decisions. We report experiments performed in France and Japan, in which subjects could update their estimates after having received information from other subjects. We measure and model the impact of this social information at individual and collective scales. We observe and justify that when individuals have little prior knowledge about a quantity, the distribution of the logarithm of their estimates is close to a Cauchy distribution. We find that social influence helps the group improve its properly defined collective accuracy. We quantify the improvement of the group estimation when additional controlled and reliable information is provided, unbeknownst to the subjects. We show that subjects' sensitivity to social influence permits to define five robust behavioral traits and increases with the difference between personal and group estimates. We then use our data to build and calibrate a model of collective estimation, to analyze the impact on the group performance of the quantity and quality of information received by individuals. The model quantitatively reproduces the distributions of estimates and the improvement of collective performance and accuracy observed in our experiments. We consider systems of agents interacting through topological interactions. These have been shown to play an important part in animal andhuman behavior. Precisely, the system consists of a finite number of particles characterized by their positions and velocities. At random times arandomly chosen particle, the follower, adopts the velocity of its closest neighbor, the leader. We study the limit of a system size going to infinityand, under the assumption of propagation of chaos, show that the limit kinetic equation is a non-standard spatial diffusion equation for the particle distribution function. We also study the case wherein the particles interact with their K closest neighbors and show that the correspondingkinetic equation is the same. Finally, we prove that these models can be seen as a singular limit of the smooth rank-based model previously studied in [10]. For displacement convex functionals in the probability space equip\-ped with the Monge-Kantorovich metric we prove the equivalence between the gradient and functional type \L oja\-sie\-wicz inequalities. \chg{We also discuss the more general case of $\lambda$-convex functions and we provide a general convergence theorem for the corresponding gradient dynamics. Specialising our results to the Boltzmann entropy, we recover Otto-Villani's theorem asserting the equivalence between logarithmic Sobolev and Talagrand's inequalities. The choice of power-type entropies shows a new equivalence between Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and a nonlinear Talagrand inequality. Some nonconvex results and other types of equivalences are discussed.

We consider a class of games with continuum of players where equilibria can be obtained by the minimization of a certain functional related to optimal transport as emphasized in [7]. We then use the powerful entropic regularization technique to approximate the problem and solve it numerically in various cases. We also consider the extension to some models with several populations of players.

We consider a finite number of particles characterised by their positions and velocities. At random times a randomly chosen particle, the follower, adopts the velocity of another particle, the leader. The follower chooses its leader according to the proximity rank of the latter with respect to the former. We study the limit of a system size going to infinity and, under the assumption of propagation of chaos, show that the limit equation is akin to the Boltzmann equation. However, it exhibits a spatial non-locality instead of the classical non-locality in velocity space. This result relies on the approximation properties of Bernstein polynomials.

We construct weak global in time solutions to the classical Keller-Segel system cell movement by chemotaxis in two dimensions when the total mass is below the well-known critical value. Our construction takes advantage of the fact that the Keller-Segel system can be realized as a gradient flow in a suitable functional product space. This allows us to employ a hybrid variational principle which is a generalisation of the minimising implicit scheme for Wasserstein distances introduced by Jordan, Kinderlehrer and Otto (1998).

This article is devoted to various methods (optimal transport, fixed-point, ordinary differential equations) to obtain existence and/or uniqueness of Cournot-Nash equilibria for games with a continuum of players with both attractive and repulsive effects. We mainly address separable situations but for which the game does not have a potential. We also present several numerical simulations which illustrate the applicability of our approach to compute Cournot-Nash equilibria.

The notion of Nash equilibria plays a key role in the analysis of strategic interactions in the framework of $N$ player games. Analysis of Nash equilibria is however a complex issue when the number of players is large. In this article we emphasize the role of optimal transport theory in: 1) the passage from Nash to Cournot-Nash equilibria as the number of players tends to infinity, 2) the analysis of Cournot-Nash equilibria.

We study a class of games with a continuum of players for which Cournot-Nash equilibria can be obtained by the minimisation of some cost, related to optimal transport. This cost is not convex in the usual sense in general but it turns out to have hidden strict convexity properties in many relevant cases. This enables us to obtain new uniqueness results and a characterisation of equilibria in terms of some partial differential equations, a simple numerical scheme in dimension one as well as an analysis of the inefficiency of equilibria.

It is known that, for the parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel system with critical porous-medium diffusion in dimension $\RR^d$, $d \ge 3$ (also referred to as the quasilinear Smoluchowski-Poisson equation), there is a critical value of the chemotactic sensitivity (measuring in some sense the strength of the drift term) above which there are solutions blowing up in finite time and below which all solutions are global in time. This global existence result is shown to remain true for the parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel system with critical porous-medium type diffusion in dimension $\RR^d$, $d \ge 3$, when the chemotactic sensitivity is below the same critical value. The solution is constructed by using a minimising scheme involving the Kantorovich-Wasserstein metric for the first component and the $L^2$-norm for the second component. The cornerstone of the proof is the derivation of additional estimates which relies on a generalisation to a non-monotone functional of a method due to Matthes, McCann, & Savar\'e (2009).

This review is dedicated to recent results on the 2d parabolic-elliptic Patlak-Keller-Segel model, and on its variant in higher dimensions where the diffusion is of critical porous medium type. Both of these models have a critical mass $M_c$ such that the solutions exist globally in time if the mass is less than $M_c$ and above which there are solutions which blowup in finite time. The main tools, in particular the free energy, and the idea of the methods are set out. A number of open questions are also stated., Comment: 26 pages

We investigate the long time behavior of the critical mass Patlak-Keller-Segel equation. This equation has a one parameter family of steady-state solutions $\rho_\lambda$, $\lambda>0$, with thick tails whose second moment is not bounded. We show that these steady state solutions are stable, and find basins of attraction for them using an entropy functional ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$ coming from the critical fast diffusion equation in $\R^2$. We construct solutions of Patlak-Keller-Segel equation satisfying an entropy-entropy dissipation inequality for ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$. While the entropy dissipation for ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$ is strictly positive, it turns out to be a difference of two terms, neither of which need to be small when the dissipation is small. We introduce a strategy of "controlled concentration" to deal with this issue, and then use the regularity obtained from the entropy-entropy dissipation inequality to prove the existence of basins of attraction for each stationary state composed by certain initial data converging towards $\rho_\lambda$. In the present paper, we do not provide any estimate of the rate of convergence, but we discuss how this would result from a stability result for a certain sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequality., Comment: This version of the paper improves on the previous version by removing the small size condition on the value of the second Lyapunov functional of the initial data. For a specific choice of the diffusion, the parabolic-elliptic Patlak-Keller-Segel system with non-linear diffusion (also referred to as the quasi-linear Smoluchowski-Poisson equation) exhibits an interesting threshold phenomenon: there is a critical mass $M_c>0$ such that all the solutions with initial data of mass smaller or equal to $M_c$ exist globally while the solution blows up in finite time for a large class of initial data with mass greater than $M_c$. Unlike in space dimension 2, finite mass self-similar blowing-up solutions are shown to exist in space dimension $d?3$.

This letter is devoted to results on intermediate asymptotics for the heat equation. We study the convergence towards a stationary solution in self-similar variables. By assuming the equality of some moments of the initial data and of the stationary solution, we get improved convergence rates using entropy / entropy-production methods. We establish the equivalence of the exponential decay of the entropies with new, improved functional inequalities in restricted classes of functions. This letter is the counterpart in a linear framework of a recent work on fast diffusion equations, see [Bonforte-Dolbeault-Grillo-Vazquez]. Results extend to the case of a Fokker-Planck equation with a general confining potential.

We study the long-time asymptotics of the doubly nonlinear diffusion equation $\rho_t={div}({|\nabla\rho^m|^{p-2}\nabla\rho^m})$ in $\RR^n$, in the range $\frac{n-p}{n(p-1)}\frac{n-p+1}{n(p-1)}$ and $1p\infty$ where the mass of the solution is conserved, but the associated energy functional is not displacement convex. Using a linearisation of the equation, we prove an $L^1$-algebraic decay of the non-negative solution to a Barenblatt-type solution, and we estimate its rate of convergence. We then derive the nonlinear stability of the solution by means of some comparison method between the nonlinear equation and its linearisation. Our results cover the exponent interval $\frac{2n}{n+1} p\frac{2n+1}{n+1}$ where a rate of convergence towards self-similarity was still unknown for the $p$-Laplacian equation.

The Keller-Segel system describes the collective motion of cells that are attracted by a chemical substance and are able to emit it. In its simplest form, it is a conservative drift-diffusion equation for the cell density coupled to an elliptic equation for the chemo-attractant concentration. This paper deals with the rate of convergence towards a unique stationary state in self-similar variables, which describes the intermediate asymptotics of the solutions in the original variables. Although it is known that solutions globally exist for any mass less $8\pi $, a smaller mass condition is needed in our approach for proving an exponential rate of convergence in self-similar variables.

This paper is devoted to the analysis of non-negative solutions for a generalisation of the classical parabolic-elliptic Patlak-Keller-Segel system with $d\ge3$ and porous medium-like non-linear diffusion. Here, the non-linear diffusion is chosen in such a way that its scaling and the one of the Poisson term coincide. We exhibit that the qualitative behaviour of solutions is decided by the initial mass of the system. Actually, there is a sharp critical mass $M_c$ such that if $M \in (0,M_c]$ solutions exist globally in time, whereas there are blowing-up solutions otherwise. We also show the existence of self-similar solutions for $M \in (0,M_c)$. While characterising the eventual infinite time blowing-up profile for $M=M_c$, we observe that the long time asymptotics are much more complicated than in the classical Patlak-Keller-Segel system in dimension two.

We consider non-negative solutions of the fast diffusion equation $u_t=\Delta u^m$ with $m \in (0,1)$, in the Euclidean space R^d, d?3, and study the asymptotic behavior of a natural class of solutions, in the limit corresponding to $t\to\infty$ for $m\ge m_c=(d-2)/d$, or as t approaches the extinction time when m < mc. For a class of initial data we prove that the solution converges with a polynomial rate to a self-similar solution, for t large enough if $m\ge m_c$, or close enough to the extinction time if m < mc. Such results are new in the range $m\le m_c$ where previous approaches fail. In the range mc < m < 1 we improve on known results.
