CELEBRITIES ,BEST friends ,FRIENDSHIP ,INTERPERSONAL relations ,CONDUCT of life - Abstract
This article focuses on the relationship between celebrities Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie. Richie and Paris Hilton have been BFF (best friends forever) since childhood-close enough to be each other's accessory-but could they now be drifting apart? These days the pair, in their third season on FOX's reality show The Simple Life, are rarely seen together off duty. A friend of both says the rift is growing in direct proportion to Richie's increasing emotional maturity-even though, at 23, she's a whole seven months younger than Hilton. And, say several sources familiar with the situation at Simple Life, fewer leafy greens in her contract. The sources say Hilton gets the higher pay (she's earning an estimated $5 million for this season's Life) and that has made for one riled Richie. The article looks at the nominees for the Golden Globe awards. While casting the lead in his Ray Charles biopic "Ray," director Taylor Hackford was not sure Jamie Foxx, best known as a comedian, had the acting skills for the part. The 1999 Oscar winner Hilary Swank came back swinging with both fists this year: She landed dual nominations as a suffragette imprisoned during the fight for women's rights in "Iron Jawed Angels" and as the would-be boxer who strikes up a deep, paternal bond with her trainer in Clint Eastwood's critic-wowing powerhouse "Million Dollar Baby." Thomas Haden Church plays a washed-up actor in "Sideways." When she agreed to play movie icon Katharine Hepburn in "The Aviator,"Cate Blanchett knew she was treading on hallowed ground.

PLASTIC surgery ,ACTRESSES ,AGING - Abstract
The article presents opinions from celebrities on plastic surgery. As the nip-and-tuck business thrives in Hollywood, some stars are saying 'No more' and speaking out about the pressure to go under the knife. Patricia Heaton took her red carpet walk at the Emmy Awards on Sept. 19 seriously. After all, the 46-year-old star of "Everybody Loves Raymond" and mother of four had put a lot of effort into looking radiant. And so she did, in a dress by Elie Saab, jewelry by Tony Duquette--and a tight tummy by the plastic surgeon also responsible for her nicely lifted breasts, all of which she'll cheerfully discuss if you ask. From press interviews to red carpets to the lunch line for craft services, actresses are talking about plastic surgery with a passion usually reserved for discussions of tax cuts or, you know, what to wear to the Oscars. The entire nation is enthralled by cosmetic surgery--according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 8.3 million Americans had procedures in 2003, up 20 percent from the previous year and nearly 300 percent from six years earlier. Call it odd. Or a dream come true. Or go with the term such A-list actresses as Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianne Moore and Jamie Lee Curtis use: "an epidemic." A troubling one that many believe is sweeping the industry. INSET: NEVER TOO YOUNG FOR A LITTLE WORK?.

MARRIAGE ,CELEBRITY weddings ,MARRIAGES of celebrities ,WEDDINGS - Abstract
This article focuses on the surprise wedding ceremony of singer Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. Some 40 hours after their top secret Sept. 18 ceremony in Studio City, Calif., newlyweds Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are acting like, well, blissed-out newlyweds: Gazing into each other's eyes. (Moving up the date prevented the couple from filing their marriage license prior to the wedding.) With even Spears's mom, Lynne, and the bridal party kept out of the loop, the impending wedding tested the bride's ability to stay mum--a challenge, considering she struggles just to keep her family's Christmas presents a surprise every year. Unlike Spears's quickie Vegas wedding to childhood pal Jason Alexander in January--the marriage was annulled after 55 hours--the bride made sure her family and close friends were in attendance. And Federline's 2-year-old daughter Kori (with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, 28, with whom he also has a 3-month-old son, Kaleb) was slated to serve as flower girl but ended up missing the wedding altogether. CELEBRITY weddings ,MARRIAGE ,WEDDINGS ,RITES & ceremonies - Abstract
This article focuses on the surprise wedding of singer Jennifer Lopez to singer Marc Anthony. Jennifer Lopez has honeymooned on the beach in Key West, Fla. She has honeymooned Italian-style in Milan. But for her third go-around as a bride, Lopez settled for less exotic--and decidedly less romantic--postwedding plans: work. Not even 48 hours after tying the knot with singer Marc Anthony on June 5, the always-a-bride-never-a-bridesmaid star was back on the set of her L.A. comedy Monster-in-Law--and her new husband was preparing to head to New York City without her. While Lopez filmed scenes of her character's engagement party--and bashfully accepted congratulations from costar Jane Fonda--Anthony promoted his new album, Amar Sin Mentiras (To Love Without Lies), all the while steadfastly refusing to comment on so much as whether a wedding had taken place. And yet the seeming haste with which the couple raced to the altar immediately raised eyebrows--and questions: Namely, is Lopez, 34, pregnant? INSETS: A Tale of Two Weddings; Is Jennifer Pregnant?.

FIRST-born children ,LABOR - Abstract
Gwyneth Paltrow has things to do: tending to her new baby's belly button, figuring out a feeding schedule, crocheting that baby hat and poncho in the do-it-yourself kit she received soon after her daughter Apple was born on May 13. But four days after giving birth at an English hospital, the Oscar-winning actress was" resting," said her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 27, as he greeted reporters outside their home in London's posh Belgravia neighborhood. Martin, who met Paltrow at a 2002 Coldplay concert, plans to lie low until next year, and Paltrow, whose films Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Proof are due later this year, has said she might not work" for ages."

ACADEMY Awards ,MOTION picture actors & actresses ,PARTIES ,MOTION picture awards - Abstract
The article looks at the post-Academy Award parties. Forget the fancy frocks. "The Governors Ball is one of the most beautiful things about the Academy Awards," declared Marcia Gay Harden. "There's food!" After sitting through the nearly four-hour ceremony, hungry hobbits and other famished film stars streamed into the Kodak Theatre's Grand Ballroom to fill up before heading out. How do you cater a sit-down meal at Mortons for 150 of Oscar's intimate friends? For a start, engage Patrick Woodroffe, who designed the lighting for Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee concerts at Buckingham Palace. Vanity Fair's famously eclectic mix included civilians, stars and even a moon-walker, astronaut Buzz Aldrin. After the final envelope is opened and the last agent thanked, every celebrity has a plan--and most of those plans include Vanity Fair's top-line do, a tough ticket that draws a rich mix of the famous from showbiz and beyond. With the adrenaline still flowing like champagne, and the champagne flowing like water, Oscar laureates Charlize Theron, Sean Penn, Renee Zellweger and Tim Robbins mixed and mingled--and stargazed just like everyone else.

ACADEMY Awards ,AWARD presentations ,CELEBRITIES ,SPEECHES, addresses, etc. - Abstract
We solve the biggest head-scratchers of the show in our guide to this year's Oscar mysteries. Who is John Carrabino, the man whom Renee Zellweger thanked so effusively while accepting her Best Supporting Actress award? "My beloved John Carrabino," as Zellweger called him, is the star's longtime manager. After her turn in 1994's "The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre," he helped her land a little film called "Jerry Maguire." An ever grateful Zellweger told James Lipton last year that it was Carrabino who "just thought, for some reason, that I should be in a movie with Tom Cruise. It didn't seem to occur to anybody else, but it did to him." Did Jack Black and Will Ferrell get paid by Del Taco for their song "You're Boring"? Alas, Black is disappointed to report that he and Ferrell received no money for name-dropping the popular Mexican fastfood restaurant in their ditty about excruciatingly long-winded acceptance speeches. (Sample lyric: "You're boring/Look at Catherine Zeta-Jones, she's snoring.") The ballad culminated with a soaring chorus of "You could have rushed up to the stage, but you were lollygagging/They're turning off your microphone and cutting to a commercial for Del Taco!" "They gave me nothing," says Black, who cowrote the lyrics with Ferrell. "But I assume I'll be getting a lifetime's worth of free tacos now."

In this special foldout section, [photographer Kevin Mazur] shares a decade's worth of memories (along with some celebrity dish). Madonna on the red carpet in '98: Madonna is hamming it up for me. She cleared the way so I could get a nice full-length shot. Catherine Zeta-Jones at the Miramax party in '03: "Wow! To be so far into her pregnancy, still look that amazing and win to boot. That was a total home run." Elton John & Elizabeth Hurley at Elton John's party in '00: They're good friends, and Elton's really playful at his parties. ACADEMY Awards ,AWARD presentations ,CELEBRITIES ,FASHION ,DRESSES ,FASHION accessories ,DESIGNERS - Abstract
This section describes the gowns and fashion accessories worn by celebrities at the Academy Awards ceremony. Designer Vera Wang, for one, was predicting some Academy Awards zing. "Everybody's been so elegant and classical," she said. "I think this year people are going to take chances." Not after watching Janet Jackson's sunburst at the Super Bowl they weren't. Opting for chic over shock, most stars chose couture that clung to--but did not excessively bare--curves. Elegant beat edgy, and vintage was au courant: Jennifer Garner turned up in vintage Valentino, while Samantha Morton chose vintage Givenchy. And (relatively) tasteful ice was much in evidence--from the 3-carat stone in Sting's necktie to the 1,500 diamonds in Charlize Theron's clutch. Still, Hollywood did not allow good taste to ruin the evening's fun. Swashbuckler Johnny Depp balanced his trademark cool with a brightly colored Band-Aid on his finger, given to him by his 4-year-old daughter Lily-Rose. And Jamie Lee Curtis decided against a long-sleeve black dress in favor of a bright-blue strapless gown. Why? "I felt like celebrating brave choices."

From power dinners to dancing at dawn, here's Oscar weekend from the celeb's eye view. Table hopping: Among the A-list diners at Beverly Hills eatery Mr. Chow on Friday night: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson with designer Tom Ford; Elton John; and designers Vera Wang and Richard Tyler. The doughnut diet: Las Vegas star Molly Sims indulged in the self-serve Krispy Kreme bar at Jeffrey Katzenberg's annual Night Before charity bash on Saturday: "It was like sundaes," she says. "You could do M&Ms and fudge." Thanks, Mom: At the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday, Whale Rider's Keisha Castle-Hughes, 13, made plans to stave off hunger during the Oscar telecast: "I would like to take a burger, but my mom said I am not allowed. She said I have to take some nuts and raisins." (Faye Dunaway had no such restrictions: During the Oscar ceremony, she strode through the theater lobby munching from a box of Chinese chicken salad.).

Wearing four dazzling outfits and winning five trophies, Grammy's golden girl hit all the right notes as she fulfilled a date with destiny at this year's Grammy Awards. A week after the Super Bowl's Nipplegate, another 'N Sync member was up to some high jinks at the Feb. 8 Grammys. "I'm crashing this place," admitted JC Chasez. But those stars who actually had tickets were on their best behavior: The White Stripes' Jack White passed out roses to female photographers, Outkast's Andre 3000 and Big Boi escorted their moms to their afterparty, and Gwen Stefani complimented her nervous 8-year-old niece Madeline on her "perfect" Grammy attire. Armani-clad Jennifer Love Hewitt was one celeb who dared to show skin. "I wasn't at the Super Bowl," she said. "I can get away with it!"

DRESSES ,FASHION design ,FASHION designers ,CELEBRITIES ,ACADEMY Awards - Abstract
This article presents images and descriptions of celebrities who have been loyal to one designer when choosing their dresses for the annual Academy Awards event. For the past four years Renée Zellweger has worn Carolina Herrera (usually strapless) to a string of big events. In return, Herrera shows the love by not designing for any other actress. When Annette Bening began her romance with Giorgio Armani in 1993, he was the go-to guy for Oscar night. Since then, as dozens of designers jostled their way onto the red carpet, she proved her loyalty, returning to him five times. They first teamed up in the late '90s, but Catherine Zeta-Jones and Donatella Versace bonded big-time when the actress needed a maternity gown in 2003. "Donatella was so amazing when I was pregnant," Zeta-Jones has said. "It's a hard thing to constantly measure your belly."

The article is a first-person account by the wife of a director about what it is like to attend the Academy Awards presentation when you are not the nominee and are not famous. Imagine your worst humiliation. Now imagine that feeling squared. That's what it's like to be a red-carpet widow. I am a normal person. But I am married to someone who lives half his life in an abnormal world--a world where beautiful people cavort and the wine flows like Evian, which flows like Fiji Water. My husband is a film producer--an Academy Award-winning film producer. As a pair, we've attended numerous premieres, countless black-tie events, several Golden Globes and two Oscar shows. And each time, I am reminded that I am a nobody. You have no idea how much effort it takes to be a nobody. Two years ago, when my husband, Brian Grazer, was nominated for Best Picture for "A Beautiful Mind," after I congratulated him, tears of joy running down my face (perhaps because it was 5:30 in the morning), I was seized by another, even stronger emotion: abject fear. What was I going to wear? And how was I going to fit in that thing I was going to wear? Who would do my hair? How does one go about getting hair that one wants done? Who would do my makeup? Who would do my plastic surgery? See, even though I am a card-carrying member of the Society of Nobodies, I am just as vain as the next green-light movie star.

DRESSES ,FASHION design ,FASHION designers ,ACADEMY Awards - Abstract
This article discusses the design process of the Valentino gown worn by actress Cate Blanchett for the 2005 Academy Awards event. If Cate Blanchett seemed to glow as she accepted her Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Kate Hepburn in "The Aviator," her gown deserved at least part of the credit. The color, says Valentino, who designed the dress just for her, is "pale and very, very soft. It is great for her skin." Like most top designers, Valentino has offered gowns to many actresses for past awards shows. But couture, he says, is "an enormous amount of long work and details. I prefer to work with people who understand and respect it. Everything is sewn by hand and fit two or three times. So this time I decided to have one special dress, conceived for this one special actress." The couture process is indeed special--for both the creator and wearer. The day after Valentino's Paris show on Jan. 24, 2005, Blanchett received her Oscar nod, and Valentino--who says he had always wanted to dress Hepburn and loved "The Aviator"--called Blanchett to congratulate her. Within a week of her viewing his collection online, the two met in London and settled on the fabric and details of the gown. Back in Rome, Valentino screened "The Aviator" for his staff, who began working full-time on the dress.

ACTORS ,CELEBRITIES - Abstract
This is an article that focuses on actor Will Smith and his role in the motion picture "I, Robot." Alan Tudyk well remembers the first time he had dinner with I, Robot star Will Smith--and not just because of the fine food and snappy repartee. He bellowed intentionally off-key renditions of '70s and '80s love songs to entertain I, Robot's cast and crew during tedious late-night shoots. Smith traveled to London later that month to cheer on Jada and her rock-soul band, Wicked Wisdom, who opened for Britney Spears's U.K. tour leg. He spent I, Robot downtime recording in his trailer and plans to release his next album by Christmas. Onscreen he's laying down his weapons for next year's romantic comedy The Last First Kiss and October's computer-animated Shark Tale (he voices a fish), but promises to return to his blockbuster shoot-' em-ups before long.

The speech? Just the beginning. From party to party, Oscar's winners painted the town gold. First Tim Robbins bowled over Hollywood with his work in Mystic River. Then, he went bowling with his family Oscar morning. After a few frames with Susan Sarandon and sons Miles, 11, and Jack Henry, 14, Robbins pinned down Best Supporting Actor honors and surprised everyone by not talking politics onstage. Oscar's It Girl celebrated even before winning Best Actress honors when 25 friends and relatives gathered at her L.A. home to swig Cristal before the show. "We had a big toast in our bedroom," says boyfriend Stuart Townsend, "about how we're all lucky to know her and how she deserves this." After the Awards she was fashionably late to the Governors Ball, sweeping in with Oprah Winfrey on her arm. Was that presumptive Best Actor winner Sean Penn having a casual lunch at the Ivy a couple of hours before showtime, prompting gawkers to wonder, "Hey, doesn't he have to be somewhere?"

ACADEMY Awards ,MOTION picture awards ,MOTION picture actors & actresses - Abstract
The article presents behind the scenes information from the Academy Awards. During the ceremony, Julia Roberts relaxed at the bar, sipping champagne and chatting with Access Hollywood preshow host Billy Bush. Next to all those Lord of the Ringers running back and forth from the stage, the most winded celeb at the Oscars had to be Oprah Winfrey. In town to introduce "Mystic River" at the ceremony and tape an Oscar-themed show, she partied at Jeffrey Katzenberg's Night Before bash, interviewed stars on the red carpet, escorted Charlize Theron to the Governors Ball and partied some more with pal Gayle King at the Vanity Fair shindig. At a late-night bash, Jack Osbourne, still fresh from rehab, laid down the law about staying sober. "No, for the third time," he told a glass-toting waitress, "I don't want a shot." Adrien Brody's breath-spray gag on the podium was every bit as impromptu as his memorable liplock last year with Halle Berry. "I walked in [to the green room] and said, 'Who uses Binaca these days?'" he said. "One of the makeup artists had it." As for why he didn't try to reprise the Berry moment with Charlize Theron, Brody says, "I don't like to do repeat performances."
