- Abstract
The present-day milking cows are selected with regard to the health and adaptability of the udder to a machine or robotic milking. Since the teat cups are placed automatically by a robot, the exterior features of the udder are crucial. A morphologically adequate udder, which has a good ratio of forequarters and hindquarters and an appropriate shape, size, and position of the teats, is a prerequisite for the cow’s good health and its adaptability to robotic milking. The advantage of robotic milking is reflected in an individual approach to each cow and a possibility to analyze a large set of data, collected daily after each milking. The new breeding values, such as the RZ Robot, are being developed, which combine the traits that are of great importance in the selection of bulls on farms that use the milking robots. As a number of milking robots increases every year, a work has been done to improve them, and the current robotic models that can be found on the market skillfully face the challenges of udder irregularities and are well equipped. Their improvement is mostly reflected in the success of creation of a new hybrid hand, with a lot of positive characteristics in the achievement of proper milking while taking care of the cows’ well-being and health.

This study aimed to assess the occurrence, persistence, and cost implications of acidosis-related issues in dairy cows concerning parity, utilizing over 8 million testday records of Holstein and Simmental breeds. The data analysis revealed that the analyzed issues in dairy cattle populations vary regarding the breed and parity. The Holsteins had a higher occurrence of acidosis compared to the Simmentals. Furthermore, Holsteins exhibited a more significant prevalence of acidosis in younger animals, while Simmentals demonstrated an increased incidence in older cows. The acidosis risk significantly reduced milk production in first-parity Holsteins, while older cows were more resilient. Among the Simmental breed, the effect of acidosis risk was limited to first-parity animals. The occurrence of acidosis in both breeds resulted in a significant and persistent reduction in milk production in older cows. Overall, results suggest the importance breed-specific management to minimize the occurrence of acidosis and maximize animal health and productivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to determine the effect of breeding region on differences in persistency of heat stress effect in first parity Simmentals test-day records provided by the Croatian Agricultural Agency were analysed. Only cows with detected statistically significant decrease in daily milk yield at set temperature-humidity index (THI) threshold value (65, 70 and 75) were included in the further analyses. The persistency of heat stress effect regarding the daily milk traits was determined as a drop in the subsequent milk recordings (1 st and 2 nd). The research results indicate significant difference in animals' response to heat stress effect due to breeding region and individual's susceptibility to heat stress. The most pronounced and persistent negative effect of heat stress was determined in cows reared in Eastern region. Also, the negative effect of heat stress was more pronounced and more persistent in Simmentals that were heat stressed at the lower THI threshold values (cows that are more susceptible to heat stress).

The aim of this paper was to present the general aspects of genomic selection in horse breeding and also to provide an overview of existing applications in horses breeding, with particular emphasis on the challenges of implementation and long-term use. Based on conducted review, it could be concluded that breeding organizations must convince horse breeders that genomic selection can be a valuable tool to increase selection success either in sports or in other horse breeding. Genomic selection (GS) allows breeders to evaluate the important traits of offspring even before its birth. GS uses genetic markers to test all relevant traits, including those that are currently very difficult to measure, such as disease resistance, meat quality, horse's crest height, etc. Finally, to establish the relevant genomic selection in individual breeds or breeding types of horses, it is necessary to create a network of collaboration between breeding associations in order to gather all necessary data.

Aiming determination of the variability of production traits (daily milk yield and composition) and microclimate parameters (ambient temperature and humidity) in the barns; as well as the correlation between the analyzed groups of traits, 1,636,192 test-day records from Simmentals and 1,275,713 test-day records from Holsteins were analysed. Performed analysis indicate high variability of production traits due to cow's breed, parity as well as breeding region. Also, high variability of microclimate parameters in the barns due to season and breeding region was found. Furthermore, statistically highly significant (p < 0.001) correlations between the production traits and microclimate parameters were determined. Finally, the negative effect of inadequate microclimate on daily milk production was determined in both breeds in all breeding regions. Since genetic evaluation and selection of dairy cattle for heat resistance is only long-term method for heat stress managing, determined effect will be taken into account in the statistical model for estimation of genetic parameters and breeding values.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the welfare status of high-producing Holstein dairy cows on commercial Croatian farms. Lying behavior data was collected from 278 dairy cows across four farms with varying milking parlors and housing systems in eastern Croatia for at least 3 days. Data loggers recording at 1-min intervals recorded behaviors: lying time (min/d), lying bout duration (min/bout), lying bouts (n/d) and laterality of lying. Acceleration data was summarized into lying behaviors for each individual cow. Health scores (udder cleanliness, locomotion, and hock injuries) were also assessed. The univariate procedure was used to generate mean lying behaviors and health scores by farm with a 95% CI. Mean lying time per farm ranged from 11.7 ± 2.7 to 10.4 ± 2.7 h/d. Prevalence of lame cows ranged from 28% to 50%. Heavily soiled udders ranged from 2% to 12%. Prevalence of left hocks with minor to major swelling ranged from 50% to 100%; prevalence of right hocks with minor to major swelling ranged from 45% to 100%. In conclusion, all farms assessed have opportunities to improve overall welfare through increasing udder cleanliness and reducing hock injuries.

The goal of this paper was to determine the effect of daily production level of primiparous Holstein cows kept on dairy cattle farms in Eastern Croatia on response to heat stress conditions (THI threshold). In order to do this, individual test-day records with data on ambient temperature and relative humidity in the barns were analysed. The data were collected in regular milk recording from 2006-2012. The THI threshold values for daily milk yield were determined by least square analyses of variance for each given THI value (from 68 to 72) using the PROC MIXED (SAS). Low-producing cows experienced significant drop at THI=68, while in high-producing primiparous Holsteins the first significant drop in daily milk yield was observed when THI=69. Also, the amount of daily production drop depended on the cow's production level (0.155-0.256 kg/day in high-producing; 0.319-0.460 kg/day in low-producing). It could be concluded that the response of primiparous Holstein cows kept in Eastern Croatia to heat stress conditions depends on daily production level.

This paper aimed to analyze the use of digital media, and the research was conducted via a web survey sent by e-mail to equestrian clubs in Croatia. Social media has significantly altered the way of communication and the availability of information in all segments of life and work, including horse breeding. Within digital media, an extremely large amount of information is available that is not necessarily relevant and true. To prevent the use of inadequate information, in 60% of equestrian clubs in Croatia, certain persons are responsible for the content. Less than 50% of the respondents follow influencer posts. Furthermore, 90% of the respondents believe that digital media is an excellent tool that can help in the work of equestrian clubs, while 80% of the respondents believe that it is currently underutilized. horse ,training ,positive interaction - Abstract
The aim of the work was to present a way of developing positive interaction between horses and riders in training. Interactions between horse and rider that lead to a positive relationship are realized through a series of human actions towards the horse and vice versa. The interaction between horse and rider is influenced by many factors ; rider's seat, training method, appropriate equipment and knowledge of the basic characteristics of horse ethology. The connection between a man and a horse is the embodiment of the greatest connection between a man and an animal, while the ultimate goal of riding is to achieve union with the horse, that is, some kind of fluidity. With proper work and training, horses show a desire and willingness to communicate with people, while coercion in working with a horse is the worst for both partners. The rider around the horse should have the qualities of a calm and reliable leader, while the horse should have confidence in its rider. Constant proper work and time dedicated to the horse will lead to a high- quality and successful creation and maintenance of a positive relationship between horse and rider.

With the aim of determining the effect of response to heat stress, parity, breed and breeding region on somatic cell count (SCC) in dairy cattle, the individual test-day records of dairy cows collected from 2005 to 2012 in regular milk recording (AT4 / BT4 method) in Croatia were used. The proportional differences in log somatic cell count, and logSCC (in %) in subsequent milk recordings (1st, and 2nd) were determined in cows with a significant decrease in daily milk yield at a set temperature-humidity index, THI threshold (68, 72, and 76). The results indicate high variability in somatic cell count due to the animal’s response to heat stress (heat stressed at THI in 68, 72, and 76), parity (1, 2, and 3+), breed (Holstein, and Simmental) and breeding region (Central, and Eastern Croatia). Also, it could be pointed out that Holsteins, especially cows in higher parities (2, 3+) reared in Eastern Croatia were shown to be more sensitive to environmental stress, even in the period after heat stress (1st, and 2nd subsequent milk recording). Since SCC is not only an indicator for mastitis, but also reflects a cow’s immune response to general stress situations, the high variability determined may be explained by the individual adaptation capabilities of these two breeds to breeding conditions in the analysed regions.

mare's milk ,functional food ,composition - Abstract
Mare's milk is traditionally used in the regions of Central Asia by nomadic people. Also, there is a long history of utilisation and processing of mare's milk. Furthermore, in recent decades, mare's milk has been researched as a functional food throughout Europe. The production of mare's milk is highly demanding. Since the composition of the mare's milk depends on various factors, the aim of the work was to determine the variability of the composition of the Lipizzaner mare's milk regarding parity. Mare's milk was collected from the 16 Lipizzaner mares bred at a stud farm in eastern Croatia. Regarding parity, the mares were classified into two groups: (A) younger (first to third lactation, n = 8) and (B) older (over third lactation, n = 8). It was found that the amount of milk fat and lactose is higher in the milk of older mares, while the amount of protein was lower in the same animals. Concerning the aspect of functional food in the human diet, protein represents the most important component of mare's milk. Therefore, it can be concluded that the milk of the younger mares is richer in protein and more recommended as a functional food.

Cow welfare is subject to various influences, in both negative and positive ways, such as: social interactions with other cows, human-animal interactions, management systems, nutrient supply, barn design, climate, etc. Two basic behaviours that are important in the ethology of animals are eating and resting. The milking was incorporated between those two needs in robotic milking, or it was given to the free will of the animal itself. Robotic milking has gained widespread acceptance, as a way to reduce labour on dairy farms, increase milk production and simultaneously improve dairy cow welfare by allowing cows to choose when to be milked. Free cow traffic is one of the variations of cow traffic strategies, where cows can access feeding and resting areas of the barn with no restriction. The basic concept for such traffic is to increase the comfort of cows, and compliance with the five freedoms of animal welfare.

feeding ,horse ,feeding frequency - Abstract
The paper aimed to define the optimal daily number of rations of a "modern" horse, regarding the physiological and ethological aspects, and to determine the number of ratios in horses in boarding and private accommodation in Croatia. From an evolutionary and physiological point, the horse was built for constant feeding. The rations have to provide an adequate supply of energy and nutrients and largely affect the horses' ethology. The management of feeding and quality of ration affects the horses' health and welfare. Today horses are far less physically active than before. The frequency of rations affects the physiological parameters of digestion and the aetiology of the horse. How to balance the appropriate ration frequency considering the physiological and ethological aspects, and the usage of the horse itself depends primarily on the daily amount and quality of feed required for the horse to remain fit. Usually, adult horses have two rations a day with a 10-hour daily interval and 14-hours nightly interval between rations. The frequency of a horses’ ration varies depending on the way of keeping, category, physiological condition and usage. The effect of feeding on the health and welfare of horses is mainly focused on the appropriate intake of energy and nutrients and on the consideration of the aetiology of feeding, limiting concentrates to specific needs, availability of water and hygienic correctness of feed and water. Knowledge of the specific feeding needs of horses in physiology and aetiology should be considered an essential part of preserving the horses' welfare.

uzgoj, dobrobit, goveda, farme, automatizirani muzni sustavi - Abstract
Međutim, oni posjeduju u svojoj opremi i različite senzore pomoću kojih mogu pratiti životinju, te informirati farmera o proizvodnom i zdravstvenom stanju životinje.

Mare's milk was traditionally used by nomadic peoples in the regions of Central Asia, where its use goes back a long way in history. In recent decades, the mare's milk has been researched as a functional food throughout Europe. The production of the mare's milk is technologically demanding. Changes in the composition of the mare's milk have been poorly investigated in the raw material production. The aim of the work was to determine whether the composition of the Lipizzaner mare's milk change through the ordinal number of lactation. Mare's milk was collected from the 17 Lipizzaner mares bred at a stud farm in Slavonia (eastern Croatia). The Lipizzaner mares were classified into two groups: (A) younger (first to third lactation, n = 8) and (B) older (over third lactation, n = 8). The composition of milk fat, protein and lactose in the mare's milk in the 4th and 6th months of lactation was analysed. It was found that the amount of milk fat and lactose in the mare's milk of older mares increases, while the amount of protein decreases. The most important composition of mare's milk from the aspect of functional food in the human diet is precisely the protein composition. Therefore, it can be concluded that the milk of the younger mares is richer in protein and more acceptable as a functional food. The protein composition of mare's milk should be identified further.

Sinergiju turističkih ponuda i usluga istoka Hrvatske konji svakako mogu upotpuniti.

Jacobaea vulgaris, a rapidly spreading weed with a light yellow daisy-like flower, is spreading more and more over a large number of green areas in our environment. Since all parts of the plant contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA), Jacobaea vulgaris represents a danger to both the human (poisoning can occur by consuming polluted honey) and animal (gradual poisoning by consuming canned grass) population. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids break down in the liver, causing significant damage to the liver itself but also damage to the central nervous system and can lead to genome alteration and consequent carcinogenic processes in cells. Recovery from poisoning with Jacobaea vulgaris is possible only at an early stage when a large amount of pyrrolizidine alkaloids has not yet been deposited in the body, but then the symptoms are mild and it is not possible to unambiguously link them to the onset of poisoning of an individual. Therefore, it is extremely important to prevent the possibility of poisoning at all that is to eradicate the Jacobaea vulgaris from our meadows and pastures primarily by diligent, responsible and efficient maintenance of green areas in our environment.

Milk production in the Republic of Croatia is facing a great challenge. Over the years, there has been a decline in the number of farms, cattle and the amount of milk production. Data for 2019 show a decrease in the number of cows for milk production of 4.4% compared to the previous year, or 14.4% over the last 5 years. Consequently, during the mentioned period, there was a drop in milk production by 15.5%. There are several reasons for this situation: high fragmentation of parcelled land, rural population moving to cities and other richer EU countries, negative population demographics, strong pressure of cheap milk imported by retail chains from western and northern EU member states, insufficiently modernized farms. All this makes it difficult for the survival of the Croatian farmer. Self-sufficiency in milk production in 2019 in Croatia was only 48.4%. In order to somewhat stop these negative trends, the Government of the Republic of Croatia is trying to encourage farmers to modernize dairy farms. One way of modernization is the introduction of milking robots. Farmers increasingly accept the proposed idea. Currently, 40 robots were installed in Croatia, distributed on 27 farms. Preliminary production results show that on robotic farms there has been an increase in milk production at the lactation level of about 528 kg. In addition to the production effect, the robotization of farms also leads to a financial effect on the entire Croatian economy.

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of different starters consisted of dried whey and soy proteins with low anti-nutritive factors (ANFs) + amino acids (lysine and methionine) on body measurements, biochemical parameters, and feed consumption of early-weaned female Holstein calves. Based on the starter, calves were divided into four groups: i) control (control starter), ii) E1 (starter with added dry whey), iii) E2 (starter with added soy proteins with low ANFs + lysine and methionine), and iv) E3 (starter with added dry whey and soy proteins with low ANFs + lysine and methionine). Results indicate that different starters based on whey powder and soy proteins with low ANFs + lysine and methionine significantly affected the consumption of milk replacer and starter, the total consumption of dry matter, then withers in height, and body length (among body traits) as well as NEFA (among blood biochemical parameters) of female Holstein calves. Finally, starters based on dried whey and soy proteins with low ANFs + lysine and methionine could be recommended to optimize the growth and feed consumption.

Innovations in animal husbandry are most often where production processes are most sensitive or where the largest workforce participates. Milking cows is one of such jobs where automation of jobs has been introduced more and more in recent years, ie where robots are increasingly used for milking. Today, there are about 50, 000 robots of various designs and manufacturers in use in the world. Research shows that number will double in the coming years. The robotization of dairy farms has gained momentum with producers in the Republic of Croatia. However, in robotization of farms, farmers face new challenges and practices that they did not know before. That is why any professional and scientific help is welcome and worth studying. The results of this study were conducted on two dairy farms that underwent a transition from conventional to robotic milking. The results showed a significant (p

The jumping sport represents a significant part of the equestrian industry that is largely focused on the realization of economic gain. In order to realise desired competition results, horses need to be adequately trained. Generally, training can be defined as ‘a complex process of different activities with a planned and oriented goal of making progress in achieving fitness and oriented movements during work'. Through training, horses need to improve or maintain maximum performance, preparing the horse for competition, delay onset of fatigue, improve skills or work capacity, minimize the incidence of injuries or metabolic disorders, and maintain willingness and enthusiasm for exercise. Furthermore, warming-up represents the unavoidable preparatory step of each training session aiming to prepare the body for the training by increasing the heart rate, enhancing blood supply to tissues, and increasing the flexibility of joints, ligaments, and tendons. Also, horses' trainers and handlers should nurture natural curiosity enabling horses to suppress potential fear of new stimuli and lift the performances in training and breeding. Finally, an adequately trained and bred horse is the one with good results in equestrian sports.

Since the problem of lameness is very common on dairy farms, it is necessary to apply newer technologies that can contribute to reducing the frequency of lameness. Information Computer Technologies (ICT) is becoming increasingly widespread to monitor the levels of the production, functional, welfare and health traits. With automated lameness detection methods a large amount of data can be collected in short period of time, which can improve lameness prediction accuracy. The application of ICT technology in the detection and prevention of lameness in cows in milk production is possible and has a future. Currently, ICT are strongly represented at the level of scientific approach with a tendency to be applied in practice on a daily basis. Significant effort and cooperation of several different groups of people (scientists, IT specialists, and farmers) are needed in order for ICT to be successfully implemented in continuous practical application.

- Abstract
In order to estimate the variance components as well as the breeding value for daily milk production of Holstein cows in terms of heat stress defined as different THI threshold values (68, 70, and 72) 1,275,713 test-day records from 90,159 cows were used. Temperature-humidity index (THI) calculated from ambient temperature and relative humidity recorded in the barns on the milk recording day was used as the measure of heat stress. Daily milk production was analysed as a bivariate variable, in the normal conditions (under the set THIthreshold value), and in terms of heat stress (above the set THIthreshold value) using a model that accounted variances due to lactation stage, calving season, age at calving, breeding region, parity, permanent environment, interaction between hear and year, and individual animal. The estimated high genetic correlations between the daily milk production in normal and heat stress conditions, as well as high correlations among the EBVs in normal and heat stress conditions, point out that Holstein cows with high productivity in normal condition will sustain an alike level of production even in terms of heat stress. These results indicate that the Holstein cows are very well acclimatized to the environmental conditions at dairy farms in Croatia. However, these findings should be taken with caution, given that measurements of microclimate parameters were conducted only once at a milk recording day, so the reliability of such measurements could be questionable. In conclusion, in order to realize a completely unambiguous conclusion, further studies that include multiple daily measurements of microclimatic parameters in the farms facilities are necessary.

Variance components for daily milk production as well as breeding value of dairy Simmentals for daily milk production in terms of heat stress defined as different values of THI threshold values (72, 74, and 76) were estimated using 1,636,192 test-day records provided by the Croatian Agricultural Agency. Temperature-humidity index (THI) calculated from ambient temperature and relative humidity recorded in the barns on the milk recording day was used as the measure of heat stress. Bivariate estimation model accounted variances due to lactation stage, calving season, age at calving, breeding region, parity, permanent environment, interaction between hear and year, and individual animal Obtained high genetic correlations between the daily milk production in normal and condition characterized by heat stress, as well as very high correlations between the EBVs in normal and heat stress conditions indicate animals' high level of acclimatization to the environment on dairy cattle farms. Since microclimate measurements were carried out only once at a milk recording day, these results should be taken with caution. Generally, further research with multiple daily measurements of the microclimate parameters in the facilities is necessary to provide a fully unambiguous conclusion.

Aiming determination of the persistency of heat stress effect in first parity Holstein cows regarding the region of breeding test-day records provided by the Croatian Agricultural Agency were analysed. Only cows with detected statistically significant decrease in daily milk yield at set temperature-humidity index (THI) threshold value (65, 70 and 75) were included in the further analyses. The persistency of heat stress effect regarding the daily milk traits was determined as a absolute drop in the subsequent milk recordings (1st and 2nd). The results of this research indicate significant difference in cows’ response to heat stress effect due to region of breeding and animal’s susceptibility to heat stress. The negative effect of heat stress was more pronounced and more persistent in cows bred in Mediterranean and Eastern Croatia. Also, the negative effect of heat stress was more pronounced and more persistent in cows that were more susceptible to heat stress (heat stressed at the lower THI threshold values).

konj ,termogram - Abstract
Termografska kamera bilježi zračenje u infracrvenom pojasu elektromagnetskog spektra (0.9-14 mikrometara) i stvara sliku koju nazivamo termogram.

infracrvena termografija ,primjena ,konj ,termogram - Abstract

Probava konja započinje usnom šupljinom, gdje zubi sažvaču obrok, natope ga slinom, jezik formira zalogaji i potiske dalje u probavni sustav.
