The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control in its last report warned of a progressive increase in the number of new diagnoses of tuberculosis in low endemic European Countries, including Italy. This increase regards mainly children, and seems to be linked to the increase of immigration from East Europe to Western countries. Although Italy is considered a low incidence country for tuberculosis, the reappearance of this disease requires from Nurses to be adequately prepared for the care of affected children. This review illustrates, on the light of existing literature and of clinical guidelines, how children with tuberculosis should be taken care of, with the goal to prevent the spread of infection in the hospital setting and to guarantee an early diagnosis, an adequate treatment and a careful followup.
