Abstract: We present our follow-up observations with GRANDMA of transient sources revealed by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). Over a period of six months, all ZTF triggers were examined in real time by a dedicated science module implemented in the Fink broker, which will be used for the data processing of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. In this article, we present three selection methods to identify kilonova candidates. Out of more than 35 million candidates, a hundred sources have passed our selection criteria. Six were then followed-up by GRANDMA (by both professional and amateur astronomers). The majority were finally classified either as asteroids or as supernovae events. We mobilized 37 telescopes, bringing together a large sample of images, taken under various conditions and quality. To complement the orphan kilonova candidates (those without associated gamma-ray bursts, which were all), we included three additional supernovae alerts to conduct further observations of during summer 2021. We demonstrate the importance of the amateur astronomer community that contributed images for scientific analyzes of new sources discovered in a magnitude range r'=17-19 mag. We based our rapid kilonova classification on the decay rate of the optical source that should exceed 0.3 mag/day. GRANDMA's follow-up determined the fading rate within 1.5+/-1.2 days post-discovery, without waiting for further observations from ZTF. No confirmed kilonovae were discovered during our observing campaign. Abstract: Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 10km. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < -5; meteoroid size ≥∼1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/10km. This value is compatible with previous estimates. Finally, the first meteorite was recovered in Italy (Cavezzo, January 2020) thanks to the PRISMA network, a component of the FRIPON science project., FRIPON was initiated by funding from ANR (grant N.13- BS05-0009-03), carried by the Paris Observatory, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris-Saclay University and Institut Pythéas (LAM-CEREGE). Abstract: The Seine estuary is the outlet of the catchment area of the Paris Basin, where fine sediments and a number of anthropogenic elements and substances end in. Among them, artificial radionuclides can be used as tracers of sediment sources and mixing processes. They may originate from upstream (atmospheric fallout from Chernobyl accident in 1986 and from nuclear weapons testing in the 1960s, licensed discharges from nuclear facilities...) or from downstream (La Hague reprocessing plant -Central Channel). In this macrotidal estuary, trapping and upstream migration of sediment is in process, due to the tide asymmetry; it is named "tidal pumping". It has been previously documented using 60Co, a short-lived radionuclide, originating from the La Hague reprocessing plant (north of Cotentin peninsula). The average upstream velocity of 60Co-labelled sediment particles has been estimated to be in the order of 10 km per year. The plutonium 239, 240 and the americium 241 have much longer decay period and could, therefore, give the opportunity to better understand the dynamics of the "tidal pumping" on a longer term.

Abstract: The accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) in March 2011 led to an unprecedented direct input of artificial radioactivity into the marine environment. The Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety was requested by the French authorities to investigate the radioecological impact of this input, in particular the potential contamination of products of marine origin used for human consumption. This article describes the close link between the responses provided and the availability of the data, as well as their nature and ability to meet the requirements of expert investigation. These responses were needed: (i) to evaluate the inputs of radionuclides into the marine environment, (ii) to understand their dispersion in seawater, and (iii) to estimate their transfer to the biota and sediments. Three phases can be distinguished which characterise these processes during the accident and post-accident periods. The first phase corresponds to an emergency phase during which no measurements were available on samples from the marine environment. It involved the formulation of hypotheses based solely on the expertise of the Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety. The second phase started when the Japanese authorities provided measurements of the concentrations of radionuclides in seawater. Although these data were not yet adapted to addressing the problems of radioecology, the scenarios could then be refined and the estimates developed in more detail. During the third phase, the accumulation of data over the course of time made it possible to study the phenomena in an appropriate way. Abstract: This work presents analysis and prediction of the dispersion of radioelements in the marine environment based on the pulse response theory. The analysis is made on three data sets over the period 1984-1988 : the amounts of gamma-emitting radioelements contained in controlled releases from the nuclear reprocessing plant of La Hague (=signal emission point), and gamma-emitting radionuclide concentrations in sea water at two stations (=signal reception points), situated at 8 and 35 km distance from the release point. Using this data base, the pulse response is determined for each station and for each element. This allows us to estimate the mean delay and the amplitude of the reception signal (i.e. the concentrations of radioelements) and its sensitivity to wind forcing. We then demonstrate that the convolution of the pulse response and released radionuclide time-series is capable of yielding a fairly good prediction of the concentrations at each station. Some particularities of the behaviour of Cs-137, Ru-106 and Co-60 are evidenced by comparison with that of Sb-125, assumed to be a conservative element in sea water: adsorption of Ru-106 and Co-60 on to particles, additional sources of Cs-137. The mean delays calculated for Sb-125 at each station are close to each other (28-30 days) despite their different distances from the release point, and are explained by the specific hydrodynamics of the studied area.

27. Multiparametric investigation of North Sea particulate matter. Preliminary results in the Skagerrak

Abstract: During the Tramanor cruise, in July 1988, seawater and particle samples were collected along a vertical profile (530 m depth) located in the Skagerrak, a crossing-area for different water-masses and particle pools. A sampling strategy was developed to ensure the homogeneity of the different sets of subsamples subjected to analysis by closely-coupled complementary techniques: turbidimetry, granulometry, scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations, Tracor analyses, particulate organic carbon and nitrogen measurements, and neutron activation analysis (NAA). The Baltic outflow is found in the topmost 20 m water-column (salinity approximately equals 23.5; temperature approximately equals 18 degree C) overlying North Sea waters (salinity approximately equals 35; temperature approximately equals 6 degree C). Surface waters undergo a plankton bloom, dominated by Dinoflagellates and Coccolithophoridae. The former, characterized by high C/N ratios ( approximately equals 15; cellulosic thecae), play a significant role in the biological recycling of Zn. The latter accumulate over the halocline as typically observed in frontal structures. The detrital phase mainly consists of clay minerals. Manganese is highly enriched relative to shale-type material together with Fe, Co and Zn.

Abstract: Abstract: A sequential extraction protocol has been used to determine the solid-phase partition of 210Po and 210Pb in anoxic marine sediment from the roads of Cherbourg (France) in the central English Channel. Measurements were also obtained in pore waters, in which 210Po activities range between 1 and 20mBqL−1 and 210Pb activities between 2.4 and 3.8mBqL−1, with highest activities in the topmost layer. These activities are higher than in seawater, suggesting that sediment act as a source of both 210Po and 210Pb for overlying water. The 210Po profile in the pore waters is apparently correlated with those obtained for Fe, Mn and SO4 2 −, suggesting an influence of early diagenetic processes on the 210Po solid-liquid distribution. In the sediment, 210Po is predominantly bound to organic matter or chromium reducible sulphides, and residuals (clay minerals and refractory oxides). Our results indicate that 210Po is not significantly bound to AVS, i.e. acid volatile sulphides: bioturbation could play a role by the early redistribution of 210Po bound to acid volatile sulphides in the sediment. 210Po, 210Pb and Pb exhibit differences in terms of distribution, probably due to a different mode of penetration in the sediment. This work provides information on solid and liquid distribution of 210Po and 210Pb in marine sediment. These data are very scarce in the litterature. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: From 1990 to 2000, 60Co, a radionuclide released into the English Channel by the La Hague reprocessing plant, has been measured in the deposited sediments of the Seine estuary. Since 1990, the 60Co concentrations have slowly increased from some tenths of Bq.kg-1to ca 10 Bq.kg-1. This transient signal was used to bring the evidence of the input of marine particles far upstream in the estuary, ca 80 km from the river mouth. The dynamics of this process have been deciphered by comparing several sets of data obtained in the years 1990 to 2000. An average velocity of about 10 km.y-1was found for this incoming sediment pool. These observations are conformable with calculated of suspended sediment fluxes performed along the river.

Abstract: Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile – hence precious – meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 106 km2. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < –5; meteoroid size ≥~1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/106 km

Abstract: Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile – hence precious – meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 106 km2. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < –5; meteoroid size ≥~1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/106 km
