1. On $S$-injective modules

Abstract: Let $R$ be a commutative ring with an identity, and $S$ a multiplicative subset of $R$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of $S$-injective modules as a weak version of injective modules. Among other results, we provide an $S$-version of the Baer's characterisation of injective modules. We also give an $S$-version of the Lambek's characterization of flat modules: an $R$-module $M$ is $S$-flat if and only if its character, $Hom_{\mathbb{Z}}(M,\mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z})$, is an $S$-injective $R$-module. As applications, we establish, under certain conditions, counterparts of Cheatham and Stone's characterizations for $S$-Noetherian rings using the notion of character modules., Comment: 13 pages

2. S-flat cotorsion pair

Abstract: Let $R$ be a commutative ring, and let $S$ be a multiplicative subset of $R$. In this paper, we investigate the notion of $S$-cotorsion modules. An $R$-module $C$ is called $S$-cotorsion if $\text{Ext}^{1}_{R}(F,C) = 0$ for every $S$-flat $R$-module $F$. Among other results, we establish that the pair $(S\mathcal{F}, S\mathcal{C})$, where $S\mathcal{F}$ denotes the class of all $S$-flat $R$-modules and $S\mathcal{C}$ denotes the class of all $S$-cotorsion modules, forms a hereditary perfect cotorsion pair. As applications, we provide characterizations of $S$-perfect rings in terms of $S$-cotorsion modules. We conclude the paper with results on $S\mathcal{F}$-preenvelopes. Namely, we prove that if every module has an $S\mathcal{F}$-preenvelope, then $R$ is $S$-coherent. 3. When every S-flat module is (flat) projective

Abstract: Let R be a commutative ring with identity and S a multiplicative subset of R. The aim of this paper is to study the class of commutative rings in which every S-flat module is flat (resp., projective). An R-module M is said to be S-flat if the localization of M at S, M_S, is a flat R_S-module. Commutative rings R for which all S-flat R-modules are flat are characterized by the fact that R/Rs is a von Neumann regular ring for every s in S. While, commutative rings R for which all S-flat R-modules are projective are characterized by the following two conditions: R is perfect and the Jacobson radical J(R) of R is S-divisible. Rings satisfying these conditions are called S-perfect. Moreover, we give some examples to distinguish perfect rings, S-perfect rings, and semisimple rings. We also investigate the transfer results of the "S-perfectness" for various ring constructions, which allows the construction of more interesting examples.

4. Impact of Evidence-Based Instruction on Teachers' Views of Teaching and Their Learning of TEYL-Related Concepts

Abstract: This exploratory practice study attempts to investigate the impact of a newly designed TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners) course on pre-service teachers' learning at the Institut Supérieur des Arts et Métiers, Tataouine (ISAMT). The study also examined their views of teaching as they will soon graduate and join the teaching profession. Several types of assessment (formative and summative) were designed to diagnose and assess students' views of teaching and knowledge of TEYL-related concepts before and after the TEYL course. Findings reveal that while students' understanding of TEYL concepts has improved, their English language proficiency remains a major obstacle to fully benefitting from the course.

6. Enhancing Service Quality of On-Demand Transportation Systems Using a Hybrid Approach with Customized Heuristics

Abstract: As customers’ expectations continue to rise, advanced on-demand transport services face the challenge of meeting new requirements. This study addresses a specific transportation issue belonging to dial-a-ride problems, including constraints aimed at fulfilling customer needs. In order to provide more efficient on-demand transportation solutions, we propose a new hybrid evolutionary computation method. This method combines customized heuristics including two exchanged mutation operators, a crossover, and a tabu search. These optimization techniques have been empirically proven to support advanced designs and reduce operational costs, while significantly enhancing service quality. A comparative analysis with an evolutionary local search method from the literature has demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach across small-to-large-scale problems. The main results show that service providers can optimize their scheduling operations, reduce travel costs, and ensure a high level of service quality from the customer’s perspective.

Abstract: Summary: Human genetic studies of critical COVID-19 pneumonia have revealed the essential role of type I interferon-dependent innate immunity to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conversely, an association between the HLA-B∗15:01 allele and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated individuals was recently reported, suggesting a contribution of pre-existing T cell-dependent adaptive immunity. We report a lack of association of classical HLA alleles, including HLA-B∗15:01, with pre-omicron asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated participants in a prospective population-based study in the United States (191 asymptomatic vs. 945 symptomatic COVID-19 cases). Moreover, we found no such association in the international COVID Human Genetic Effort cohort (206 asymptomatic vs. 574 mild or moderate COVID-19 cases and 1,625 severe or critical COVID-19 cases). Finally, in the Human Challenge Characterisation study, the three HLA-B∗15:01 individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 developed symptoms. As with other acute primary infections studied, no classical HLA alleles favoring an asymptomatic course of SARS-CoV-2 infection were identified.

Abstract: Background: SARS-CoV-2 is described to cause mild to moderate symptoms in children. To date, clinical data and symptoms of the Delta variant in pediatric patients are lacking. Aim: To describe clinical characteristics and outcomes of infants admitted in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) during the period of Delta variant predominance. Methods: We performed a retrospective study, between June 23, 2021 and August 16, 2021. We included children aged under 15 years, admitted to PICU with severe and critical form of SARS-CoV-2 infection as confirmed by RT-PCR. We reviewed medical records for all patients. Results: During the study period, 20 infants were included. The median age was 47 days (IQR: 26.5–77). The sex ratio was 0.8 (9 males). No underlying medical conditions were noted. Parents were not vaccinated. Respiratory involvement was the main feature to be observed in our cohort. Eleven patients had pediatric acute respiratory distress (PARDS) with a median oxygen saturation index (OSI) of 9 (IQR: 7–11). PARDS was mild in 4 cases, moderate in 5 cases and severe in 2 cases. Hemodynamic instability was observed in 4 cases. The main radiological finding was ground glass opacities in 11 cases. Seventeen patients were mechanically ventilated and 3 of them were escalated to high-frequency oscillatory ventilation. The median duration of mechanical ventilation was 6 days (IQR 2.5–12.5). The remaining patients were managed with high flow nasal cannula. Four patients died. Conclusion: We report herein a case series of very young infants, with no comorbidities, and with a life-threatening illness due to SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant.

13. Temporal and spatial distribution of musculoskeletal disorders from 1990 to 2019: a systematic analysis of the global burden of disease

Abstract: Objectives This study aimed to globally assess the prevalence and distribution of primary-origin musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) from 1990 to 2019 to better understand their temporal trends.Methods Using data from the 2019 Global Burden of Diseases, prevalence rates of six primary-origin MSDs were analysed across subregions, age groups and genders. Raw and age-standardised prevalence were mapped for over 204 countries. Cochran-Armitage trend tests evaluated temporal prevalence trends. The correlation between MSDs prevalence, national income levels and medical density was explored.Results In 2019, global MSDs prevalence varied significantly among countries. Hip osteoarthritis had a prevalence of 0.56% (95% CI: 0.43% to 0.70%), while low back pain was 8.62% (95% CI: 7.62% to 9.74%). Most MSDs exhibited an increasing prevalence with age, except for neck pain, which stabilised or decreased after age 45–50. Women generally had higher prevalence rates across all age groups. High-income countries consistently showed higher prevalence rates compared with middle and low-income countries. Over time, most subregions experienced a significant increase in MSD prevalence. However, after adjusting for age, the temporal trends for back and neck pain became non-significant, except for hip osteoarthritis, where half of the subregions remained significant. Multiple linear regressions revealed positive correlation between MSD prevalence and both national income level and medical density.Conclusion The global burden of MSDs is increasing due to population ageing, but other factors should be considered. Longitudinal studies with a wider range of MSDs and additional risk factors are needed for improved prevention strategies.

Abstract: This exploratory practice study attempts to investigate the impact of a newly designed TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners) course on pre-service teachers’ learning at the Institut Supérieur des Arts et Métiers, Tataouine (ISAMT). The study also examined their views of teaching as they will soon graduate and join the teaching profession. Several types of assessment (formative and summative) were designed to diagnose and assess students’ views of teaching and knowledge of TEYL-related concepts before and after the TEYL course. Findings reveal that while students’ understanding of TEYL concepts has improved, their English language proficiency remains a major obstacle to fully benefitting from the course.

15. A Tripartite Interpersonal Model for Investigating Metadiscourse in Academic Lectures

Abstract: In this article, a tripartite interpersonal model is proposed to analyze academic lectures delivered in English. The model combines two approaches to metadiscourse: the reflexive or narrow approach (Mauranen 1993; Ädel 2006), and the interpersonal or broad approach (Hyland 2005, 2019). The criteria adopted by the reflexive approach were exploited to identify metadiscourse in the lectures, whereas the interpersonal approach was drawn upon to ascribe an interpersonal dimension. In associating the two leading approaches, a new interpersonal model has been devised. Using data from the Tunisian Lecture Corpus, the present model is discussed in terms of its distinguishing features and tripartite interpersonal dimensions. It highlights the core features of metadiscourse, which are flexibility and prototypicality, thus offering a more accurate picture of the way the construct operates in the academic lecture genre. This study contributes to situating research on academic lectures within a theory of metadiscourse and to upgrading our current knowledge of metadiscourse. The article concludes by discussing the methodological, theoretical, and pedagogical implications of the proposed model.

Abstract: Abstract Purpose: To present a case of intraocular schwannoma arising from the ciliary body with description of histological and immunophenotypic characteristics. Case Report: A 32-year-old woman who was followed for glaucoma of the left eye and chronic renal failure at the stage of hemodialysis presented with buphthalmos and two weeks of blurry vision of the left eye. A magnetic resonance imaging exam was performed suspecting melanoma. Enucleation was rapidly performed. The histological examination after HE (Hematoxylin and Eiosin) and HEA50 (Hematoxylin and polychromatic solution EA 50) staining showed proliferation of mesenchymal monomorphic fusiform cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm and small oval nuclei which showed a tendency toward palisading. Some parts of the tumor were hypercellular with a fascicular arrangement (Antoni A pattern); other parts were weakly cellular with a myxoid arrangement (Antoni B pattern). Several Verocay bodies and a lot of hemorrhagic suffusions were described. Mitotic ﬁgures were very rare. Immunohistochemistry staining showed that tumor cells were positive for PS100 and vimentin. Conclusion: Although ciliary body schwannoma is extremely rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intraocular tumors.

Abstract: OBJECTIVES: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) represent a major public health issue, affecting more then 40 million European workers in 2017. The overall aging of the working population is expected to increase the burden of disease, but temporal changes in exposures or diagnosis may also drive the global trends in MSD. We therefore conducted a systematic review to summarize the evidence on the role of demographic and temporal changes in the occurrence of MSD. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review of articles reporting temporal trends in MSD in the general working-age population. Only articles controlling for age in the analysis were included. The risk of bias was assessed. The main indicators extracted were age-controlled time trends in MSD incidence or prevalence. RESULTS: Among 966 articles, 16 fulfilled the inclusion criteria, representing 23 results according to the indicators extracted. No study was found with a high risk of bias. Results presenting time trends in prevalence were found in 12 studies and incidence in 11. After controlling for age, the reported temporal trends varied, mostly between non-monotonic changes (N=12/23) and increases (N=10/23). One article also highlighted an increase among women and non-monotonic changes among men (N=1/23). Several factors other than aging were suggested to explain temporal trends in MSD, mainly trends in obesity, changing occupational exposures, and cultural factors regarding pain tolerance. CONCLUSION: This review shows that different kind of factors in addition to aging may contribute to varying or increasing trends in MSD. This review also highlighted the scarcity of evidence regarding time trends in the burden of MSD and their underlying causes.

Abstract: Abstract Objective: Rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) are several times above those of high-income countries. The objective of this study was to identify risk factors (RFs) for VAP cases in ICUs of LMICs. Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: This study was conducted across 743 ICUs of 282 hospitals in 144 cities in 42 Asian, African, European, Latin American, and Middle Eastern countries. Participants: The study included patients admitted to ICUs across 24 years. Results: In total, 289,643 patients were followed during 1,951,405 patient days and acquired 8,236 VAPs. We analyzed 10 independent variables. Multiple logistic regression identified the following independent VAP RFs: male sex (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.22; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16–1.28; P < .0001); longer length of stay (LOS), which increased the risk 7% per day (aOR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.07–1.08; P < .0001); mechanical ventilation (MV) utilization ratio (aOR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.23–1.31; P < .0001); continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which was associated with the highest risk (aOR, 13.38; 95% CI, 11.57–15.48; P < .0001); tracheostomy connected to a MV, which was associated with the next-highest risk (aOR, 8.31; 95% CI, 7.21–9.58; P < .0001); endotracheal tube connected to a MV (aOR, 6.76; 95% CI, 6.34–7.21; P < .0001); surgical hospitalization (aOR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.17–1.29; P < .0001); admission to a public hospital (aOR, 1.59; 95% CI, 1.35-1.86; P < .0001); middle-income country (aOR, 1.22; 95% CI, 15–1.29; P < .0001); admission to an adult-oncology ICU, which was associated with the highest risk (aOR, 4.05; 95% CI, 3.22–5.09; P < .0001), admission to a neurologic ICU, which was associated with the next-highest risk (aOR, 2.48; 95% CI, 1.78–3.45; P < .0001); and admission to a respiratory ICU (aOR, 2.35; 95% CI, 1.79–3.07; P < .0001). Admission to a coronary ICU showed the lowest risk (aOR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.51–0.77; P < .0001). Conclusions: Some identified VAP RFs are unlikely to change: sex, hospitalization type, ICU type, facility ownership, and country income level. Based on our results, we recommend focusing on strategies to reduce LOS, to reduce the MV utilization ratio, to limit CPAP use and implementing a set of evidence-based VAP prevention recommendations.

26. A cross-sectional study on infectious health risks regarding freshwater sports practice in Brittany, France

Abstract: Freshwater sports expose practitioners to pathogens in the water environment and may result in infection. In French Brittany, these infections are particularly worrying, especially since 2016 with an increase in the incidence of leptospirosis reaching 1 case per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents the highest incidence observed since 1920. We aimed to estimate the prevalence of infectious diseases related to freshwater sports practice and to identify the factors associated with these infections among freshwater sports licensees in Brittany, France. From March 18, 2019, to May 8, 2019, we interviewed freshwater sports licensees (online study) and club presidents and instructors (phone study) in Brittany. Licensee participants were 18 years old or more and practiced at least one freshwater sport in one of the 79 Brittany clubs. We used logistic regression models to study the association between our variables of interest and potential risk factors. In total, 551 licensees (20.3% of the total number of licensees) and 38 clubs (48.1%) were surveyed. Among the licensees, 29 (5.3%) reported being diagnosed with leptospirosis, of which 12 (41.3%) occurred in the last 5 years. The most reported symptoms were skin irritation/itchy skin (24.3%) and 39 individuals (7.1%) reported at least one hospitalization in their lifetime for a disease related to freshwater sports. The occurrence of leptospirosis was negatively associated with boarding from a pontoon (odds ratio (OR)=0.20, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.06–0.56), practicing for less than 4 years (OR=0.17, 95% CI 0.04–0.56) compared to more than 10 years, and the occurrence of leptospirosis was positively associated with taking a soapy shower after practice (OR=4.38, 95% CI 1.90–10.51). Eskimo roll was positively associated with the occurrence of otitis and conjunctivitis (OR=3.22, 95% CI 1.82–6.03), and skin irritation/itchy skin (OR=1.66, 95% CI 0.99–2.84). Otitis, conjunctivitis, and skin irritation/itchy skin are the most commonly reported freshwater sport-related diseases in French Brittany. Despite a good level of knowledge of prevention measures, their implementation by licensees and clubs remains low. Further studies are needed to identify practices associated with infectious risk in freshwater sports. HIGHLIGHTS This study contributes to a better understanding of the burden of infectious diseases linked to the practice of freshwater sports.; One of the main results is that despite a good knowledge of prevention measures, their implementation by licensees and clubs practicing freshwater sports remains weak.; These observations could help to better define prevention measures to improve the health of practitioners.;

Abstract: Abstract We report herein a case series of infants, with no comorbidities, who developed a life‐threatening illness due to the SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta variant. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of children, aged under 15 years, admitted to PICU, during the peak of Delta infection, between June 23 and August 16 2021, with severe and critical forms of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, confirmed by RT‐PCR. Twenty infants were included, the median age was 47 days (IQR: 26.5–77) and sex ratio was 0.8. No underlying medical conditions were noted. Parents were not vaccinated. Respiratory involvement was the main feature observed. Eleven patients had paediatric acute respiratory distress (PARDS) with a median oxygen saturation index (OSI) of 9 (IQR: 7–11). PARDS was mild in four, moderate in five, and severe in two cases. Hemodynamic instability was observed in 4 cases. The main radiological finding was ground glass opacities in 11 cases. Seventeen patients were mechanically ventilated, and three of them were escalated to high‐frequency oscillatory ventilation. The median duration of mechanical ventilation was 6 days (IQR 2.5–12.5). The remaining patients were managed with high‐flow nasal cannula. Four patients died.
