Despite the promise of superior efficiency and scalability, real‐world deployment of emerging nanoelectronic platforms for brain‐inspired computing have been limited thus far, primarily because of inter‐device variations and intrinsic non‐idealities. In this work, mitigation of these issues is demonstrated by performing learning directly on practical devices through a hardware‐in‐loop approach, utilizing stochastic neurons based on heavy metal/ferromagnetic spin–orbit torque heterostructures. The probabilistic switching and device‐to‐device variability of the fabricated devices of various sizes is characterized to showcase the effect of device dimension on the neuronal dynamics and its consequent impact on network‐level performance. The efficacy of the hardware‐in‐loop scheme is illustrated in a deep learning scenario achieving equivalent software performance. This work paves the way for future large‐scale implementations of neuromorphic hardware and realization of truly autonomous edge‐intelligent devices.

Batocera rubus severely impacts on the health of banyan trees. In this study, the whole mitochondrial genome for B. rubus was found to be 16,158 bp with a GC content of 23.9%, including 39.1% A, 37.0% T, 14.8% C, and 9.1% G. This genome contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that B. rubus is close to Batocera celebiana. This study provides valuable information that can help improve the classification and phylogeny of B. rubus and facilitate further evolutionary studies.

Abstract Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a severe clinical condition without optimal diagnostic markers nor clear molecular etiological insights. Plasma exosomal circular RNAs (circRNAs) are valuable biomarkers and therapeutic targets for various diseases, but their role in intestinal I/R injury remains unknown. Here we screen the expression profile of circRNAs in intestinal tissue exosomes collected from intestinal I/R mice and identify circEZH2_005 as a significantly downregulated exosomal circRNA. In parallel, circEZH2_005 is also reduced in the plasma of clinical cardiac surgery patients who developed postoperative intestinal I/R injury. Exosomal circEZH2_005 displays a significant diagnostic value for intestinal injury induced by I/R. Mechanistically, circEZH2_005 is highly expressed in intestinal crypt cells. CircEZH2_005 upregulation promotes the proliferation of Lgr5+ stem cells by direct interaction with hnRNPA1, and enhanced Gprc5a stability, thereby alleviating I/R-induced intestinal mucosal damage. Hence, exosomal circEZH2_005 may serve as a biomarker for intestinal I/R injury and targeting the circEZH2_005/hnRNPA1/Gprc5a axis may be a potential therapeutic strategy for intestinal I/R injury.

L10 FePd is increasingly recognized as a potential candidate for magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs), yet there remains room for enhancing device performance. In this work, we fabricated fully-integrated L10 FePd-based perpendicular MTJ devices and achieved a significant increase in tunnel magnetoresistance, reaching ∼65%, compared to the previous record of 25%. Notably, we observed bi-directional switching with a low switching current density of about 1.4 × 105 A/cm2, which outperforms the typical spin-transfer torque (STT) MTJ by about one order of magnitude. We propose two possible mechanisms to elucidate the switching process and associated device performance: (1) The voltage-controlled exchange coupling-driven switching of the bottom CoFeB layer; (2) The STT-driven switching of the exchange-coupled L10 FePd–CoFeB composite. While additional research is necessary, these findings may further advance the integration of L10 FePd into spintronic devices, potentially enabling low-energy memory and logic technologies.

6. Research on the relationship between physical literacy and demographic variables and interpersonal support for physical exercise among adolescents in China.

In recent decades, the concept of "Physical Literacy" has emerged as a significant breakthrough in enhancing the physical health of children and adolescents. This concept has become the guiding principle and future direction for physical education reform in Western countries. As China's economic and social development enters a new phase, the negative impact of insufficient physical activity on adolescent health remains a significant challenge to the strategies of "Healthy China" and "A Leading Sports Nation." The unique value of physical literacy, which emphasizes the importance of regular physical activity, aligns perfectly with the developmental needs of the nation, the era, and individuals. Given the crucial role of interpersonal support in the development of adolescents' physical literacy, this study employs questionnaire surveys and statistical analysis to investigate the current state of physical literacy among Chinese adolescents. It explores the predictive relationship between parental support, teacher support, and peer support on physical literacy, aiming to provide guidance for the future development of adolescents' physical literacy. The research findings indicate significant differences in the five dimensions of physical literacy (attitude, sports knowledge, emotion, athletic ability, and physical fitness) among adolescents of different grades and residence type. Additionally, there are notable gender differences in the dimensions of sports knowledge, emotion, and athletic ability. The interaction effect of gender and grade is particularly evident in the emotional and physical fitness dimensions. There is a significant correlation between interpersonal support and all dimensions of physical literacy. After controlling for variables such as gender, grade, and family background, interpersonal support for adolescent physical exercise was found to have a significant impact on all dimensions of physical literacy. Among the forms of support, peer support was identified as a more powerful predictor of physical literacy compared to parental and teacher support.

Tenebroides mauritanicus Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Trogossitidae) is a storage pest that feeds mainly on soybean and corn. In this study, we sequenced the entire mitochondrial genome of Tenebroides mauritanicus (GenBank accession number: OM161967). The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 15,696 bp, GC content is 29.65%, and the contents of each base is 38.37% A, 18.35% C, 11.30% G and 31.98% T, respectively. The genome encodes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs) and 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). Phylogenetic analysis showed that Tenebroides mauritanicus is clustered with Byturus ochraceus. This study provides a piece of valuable genomic information for the population genetics, phylogeny, and molecular taxonomy of Tenebroides mauritanicus.

Abstract Nb and its compounds are widely used in quantum computing due to their high superconducting transition temperatures and high critical fields. Devices that combine superconducting performance and spintronic non-volatility could deliver unique functionality. Here we report the study of magnetic tunnel junctions with Nb as the heavy metal layers. An interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy density of 1.85 mJ/m2 was obtained in Nb/CoFeB/MgO heterostructures. The tunneling magnetoresistance was evaluated in junctions with different thickness combinations and different annealing conditions. An optimized magnetoresistance of 120% was obtained at room temperature, with a damping parameter of 0.011 determined by ferromagnetic resonance. In addition, spin-transfer torque switching has also been successfully observed in these junctions with a quasistatic switching current density of 7.3 $$\times \;10^{5}$$ × 10 5 A/cm2.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate the efficacy of a demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) in decreasing the initial inflammatory response of the gingiva and facilitating the repair and regeneration of soft tissue in alveolar ridge preservation.MethodsThis clinical study employed a split-mouth design. Fourteen patients with a total of forty-four sites underwent extraction and alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) procedures. A Bilaterally symmetrical extraction operation were conducted on the premolars of each patient. The experimental group received DDM as a graft material for ARP, while the control group underwent natural healing. Within the first month postoperatively, the pain condition, color, and swelling status of the extraction sites were initially assessed at different time points Subsequently, measurements were taken for buccal gingival margin height, buccal-lingual width, extraction socket contour, and the extraction socket area and healing rate were digitally measured. Additionally, Alcian Blue staining was used for histological evaluation of the content during alveolar socket healing.ResultsBoth groups experienced uneventful healing, with no adverse reactions observed at any of the extraction sites. The differences in VAS pain scores between the two groups postoperatively were not statistically significant. In the early stage of gingival tissue healing (3 days postoperatively), there were statistically significant differences in gingival condition and buccal gingival margin height between the two groups. In the later stage of gingival tissue healing (7, 14, and 30 days postoperatively), there were statistically significant differences in buccal-lingual width, extraction socket healing area, and healing rate between the two groups. Furthermore, the histological results from Alcian Blue staining suggested that the experimental group may play a significant role in promoting gingival tissue healing, possibly by regulating inflammatory responses when compared to the control group.ConclusionThe application of DDM in alveolar ridge preservation has been found to diminish initial gingival inflammation after tooth extraction. An efficient carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR), which reduces CO2 to low-carbon fuels and high-value chemicals, is a promising approach for realizing the goal of carbon neutrality, for which effective but low-cost catalysts are critically important. Recently, many inorganic perovskite-based materials with tunable chemical compositions have been applied in the electrochemical CO2RR, which exhibited advanced catalytic performance. Therefore, a timely review of this progress, which has not been reported to date, is imperative. Herein, the physicochemical characteristics, fabrication methods and applications of inorganic perovskites and their derivatives in electrochemical CO2RR are systematically reviewed, with emphasis on the structural evolution and product selectivity of these electrocatalysts. What is more, the current challenges and future directions of perovskite-based materials regarding efficient CO2RR are proposed, to shed light on the further development of this prospective research area.

Priotyrannus closteroides Thomson, 1877 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is the trunk borer of orange trees. In this study, we sequenced and annotated the whole mitochondrial genome of P. closteroides. The results showed that the length of the complete mitochondrial genome is 15,854 bp with an overall GC content of 32.11%. The genome encodes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). The relevant phylogenetic tree distinctly showed that P. closteroides is clustered with Dorysthenes paradoxus and Dorysthenes granulosus. This study provides a piece of valuable genomic information for the population genetics, evolution, and classification of P. closteroides.

Emerging as a new class of advanced functional materials with hierarchical architectures and redox characters, organic–inorganic hybrid materials (OIHs) have been well developed and widely applied in various energy conversion reactions recently. In this review, we focus on the applications and structure–performance relationship of OIHs for electrochemical water oxidation. The general principles of water oxidation will be presented first, followed by the progresses on the applications of OIHs that are classified as metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivates, covalent organic framework (COF)-based hybrids and other OIHs. The roles of organic counterparts on catalytic active centers will be fully discussed and highlighted with typical examples. Finally, the challenges and perspectives assessing this promising hybrid material as an electrocatalyst will be provided.

The polarization of macrophages and its anti-inflammatory and proinflammatory properties play a significant role in host response after implant placement to determine the outcome of osseointegration and long-term survival. In the previous study, we immobilized an antimicrobial peptide, GL13K, onto titanium surfaces to provide immune regulation property. In the herein presented study, we aimed at investigating whether GL13K immobilized titanium surface could improve osteogenesis and reduce the inflammatory reaction around the biomaterials by altering macrophage response. We evaluated the cell proliferation of the different phenotypes of macrophages seeded in GL13K-coated titanium surface, which indicated an inhibition of M1 macrophages and a good cytocompatibility to M2 macrophages. Then, we measured the inflammatory and anti-inflammatory activity of the M1 and M2 macrophages seeded on the GL13K-coated titanium surfaces. The results of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction showed that the group with the GL13K modified surface had a downregulation in the expression level of the tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β in M1 macrophages and an upregulation of IL-10 and transforming growth factor-β3 (TGF-β3) levels in M2 macrophages. This study demonstrated that the GL13K modified titanium surfaces can regulate macrophages’ polarization and the expression of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects, reducing the effects of the inflammatory process, which may promote the process of bone regeneration and osseointegration.

Nb and its compounds are widely used in quantum computing due to their high superconducting transition temperatures and high critical fields. Devices that combine superconducting performance and spintronic non-volatility could deliver unique functionality. Here we report the study of magnetic tunnel junctions with Nb as the heavy metal layers. An interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy density of 1.85 mJ/m2 was obtained in Nb/CoFeB/MgO heterostructures. The tunneling magnetoresistance was evaluated in junctions with different thickness combinations and different annealing conditions. An optimized magnetoresistance of 120% was obtained at room temperature, with a damping parameter of 0.011 determined by ferromagnetic resonance. In addition, spin-transfer torque switching has also been successfully observed in these junctions with a quasistatic switching current density of 7.3 $$\times \;10^{5}$$ × 10 5 A/cm2.

Perpendicular magnetic tunnel junction with MgAl2O4 barrier is investigated. It is found that reactive RF sputtering with O2 is essential to obtain strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and large tunneling magnetoresistance in MgAl2O4-based junctions. An interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy density of 2.25 mJ/m2 is obtained for the samples annealed at 400C. An enhanced magnetoresistance of 60% has also been achieved. The Vhalf, bias voltage at which tunneling magnetoresistance drops to half of the zero-bias value, is found to be about 1V, which is substantially higher than that of MgO-based junctions.

Ammonia emission during composting results in anthropogenic odor nuisance and reduces the agronomic value of the compost due to the loss of nitrogen. Adjusting the operating parameters during composting is an emerging in situ odor control technique that is cheap and highly efficient. The effects of in situ NH3 emission control were investigated in this study by simultaneously adjusting key operating parameters (such as C/N ratio, aeration rate, and moisture content) during the composting processes (C1-C9). Results showed that the average NH3 emission concentrations for different treatments were in the order of C1 > C4 > C2 > C5 > C3 > C6 > C7 > C8 > C9. The total content of NH3 emission (21.02 g/kg) in C9 (C/N ratio = 35, aeration rate = 15 L/min, and moisture content = 60%) was much lower than that (65.95 g/kg) in C1 (C/N ratio = 15, aeration rate = 5 L/min, and moisture content = 60%). The nitrogen loss ratio was 27.36% for C1, while 16.15% for C9. The microbial diversity and abundance in C9 and C1 were compared using high-throughput sequencing. The relationship between NH3 emission, operating parameters, and the related functional microbial communities was also investigated. Results revealed that Nitrosospira, Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter, Pseudomonas, Methanosaeta, Rhodobacter, Paracoccus, and Sphingobacterium were negatively related to NH3 emission. According to the above results, the optimal values for different operating parameters for the in situ NH3 control during kitchen waste composting were, respectively, moisture content of 70%, C/N ratio of 35, and aeration rate of 15 L/min, with the order of effectiveness from high to low being aeration rate > C/N > moisture. This information could be used as a valuable reference for the in situ NH3 emission control during kitchen waste composting.

The existing automatic medical volume segmentation methods are usually not accurate enough, and manually editing the segmentation result is still very tedious. The paper proposes a novel editing framework for medical volume data segmentation by providing users simple and convenient 3D interactions under the visual guidance of segmentation uncertainty measurements. In the system, the volume data will be visualized in a combination of volume rendering and surface rendering. Since it is hard for users to obtain volume data information as context from surface rendering, we have designed uncertainty metrics based on mesh shape descriptors and volume image structure descriptors. The measures are mapped and rendered on the segmentation boundary mesh to indicate the uncertainty of the current segmentation boundary, which can guide users in finding a optimal editing region to start editing. Existing interactive volume segmentation editing methods usually have a demand of per-slice 2D interactions which are inconvenient and time-consuming. Compared to these methods, our system allows users to use sketch-based interactions to generate editing slices of custom shapes, and refine the contours on 2D slices to edit the current medical segmentation result. The edit results will be propagated to the 3D volume using Laplacian mesh editing techniques, which makes only a few slice interactions required. The experiments have shown that our method can effectively improve the accuracy of segmentation results. Compared with the similar methods, the number of interactions is also effectively reduced.

We report a new photodetector based on the surface states of p-type silicon. By combining the application of external fields with laser illumination, the current intensity on the surface of p-type silicon is 578 times larger than that only applied by external fields. Intriguingly, the change of current is closely related to the laser position, and we can detect an obvious current change even if the laser position is more than 1000 $\mathrm {{\mu m }}$ away from the electrode. We attribute this to a combined effect: the lateral photovoltaic contribution induced by the surface state of p-type silicon and a sharp increase of photo-excited carriers on the surface due to the change of depletion layer caused by external electric fields. This result provides the possibility for the future use of p-type silicon in the field of photodetection. Due to its sensitivity, simpler structure, and low cost, this kind of the photodetector is expected to be a promising photodetector.

An immunosensor was developed on an interdigitated electrode (IDE) by voltammetry sensing for the early identification of the autoimmune disease 'rheumatoid arthritis (RA)' by detecting the biomarker anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP). Higher immobilization of cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) as a probe was achieved by using green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and fieldemission transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that the polydispersed material displayed multifaceted features. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirms the occurrence of Fe, O, and C groups on the synthesized IONPs. IONPs were immobilized with a probe on IDE through bifunctional aldehyde-amine linkers. Due to the elevated occupancy of CCP and the highly efficient electric transfer from IONPs, higher changes in current are observed upon binding of anti-CCP with CCP. In the linear range from 8 to 250 pg/mL, the sensitivity and detection limit of anti-CCP were 8 and 15 pg/mL, respectively, with a regression coefficient of y = 1E-06x-3E-07; R² = 0.9637. Control experiments with nonimmune antibody and anti-carcinoembryonic antigen indicate the specific detection of anti-CCP. Furthermore, spiking of anti-CCP in human serum does not interfere, representing the specific detection of anti-CCP. This CCP-immobilized IDE through IONP helps to quantify anti-CCP levels in the biological fluid for diagnosing RA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Deep neural networks exhibit superior performance in dealing with segmentation of 3D medical images. However, the accuracy of segmentation results produced by fully automatic algorithms is insufficiently high due to the complexity of medical images; as such, further manual editing is required. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an interactive editing method combined with 3D end-to-end segmentation network. In the training stage, we simulate the user interactions, which are used as training data, by comparing the segmentation automatically generated by convolutional neural network with the ground truth. User interactions are fed into the network along with the images, allowing the network to adjust the segmentation results based on user edits. Our system provides three editing tools for smartly fixing segmentation errors, which cover most commonly used editing styles in medical image segmentation. With the high-level semantic information in the network, our method can efficiently and accurately edit the 3D segmentation. The interactive editing experiments on the BraTS dataset show that our method can significantly improve the segmentation accuracy with a small number of interactions only. The proposed method presents potential for clinical applications.

Odor problem has become a growing concern for municipal solid waste (MSW) operators and communities located close to landfill sites. In this study, nine laboratory-scale landfill reactors were used to simulate in-situ odor control by a novel landfill cover material consisting of biochar-added sludge compost under various operating parameters. Characterization of odor removal and microbial community in the cover layer under various operating parameters was conducted using gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry and 454 high-throughput pyrosequencing, respectively. Results showed that H2S (76.9–86.0%) and volatile organic sulfur compounds (VOSCs) (12.3–21.7%) were dominant according to their theoretical generated odor concentrations. The total odor REs calculated using the theoretical odor concentrations in the landfill reactors were different than using the measured odor values, which were ranked from high to low as: R6 > R5 > R7 > R4 > R8 > R9 > R3 > R2 > R1, showing the largest discrepancy of 25.3%. The optimum combination of operating parameters based on the theoretical odor concentration was different with that based on the measured odor concentrations. Moreover, although Firmicutes (12.21–91.48%), Proteobacteria (3.55–51.03%), and Actinobacteria (4.01–47.39%) were in general the three major bacterial phyla found in the landfill covers, the detailed bacterial communities in the cover materials of the simulated reactors varied with various operating parameters. Alicyclobacillus and Tuberibacillus showed positive correlations with the removal efficiencies (REs) of chlorinated compounds, H2S, aromatic compounds, volatile organic sulfur compounds (VOSCs), and organic acids. The correlations of Rhodanobacter, Gemmatimonas, Flavisolibacter and Sphingomonas were strongly positive with ammonia RE and relatively positive with REs of organic acids, VOSCs, and aromatic compounds. These findings are instrumental in understanding the relationship between the structure of microbial communities and odor removal performances, and in developing techniques for in-situ odor control at landfills.
