For nanoreinforced materials, the inclusion surface/matrix volume ratio is important. Therefore, matrix/reinforcement interface behavior has a major influence on the local and effective material behaviour. Focusing on thermo-elasticity, a numerical approach based on the finite element method is developed for nanomaterials with imperfect coherent interface modeling. For the numerical analysis, a convergence study is performed for multiple homogenization schemes with different boundary conditions.

This research is a first step towards designing a numerical strategy capable of assessing the nocivity of a small defect in terms of its size and position in the structure with low computational cost, using only a mesh of the defect-free reference structure. The proposed strategy aims at taking into account the modification induced by the presence of a small inhomogeneity through displacement field correction using an asymptotic analysis. Such an approach would allow to assess the criticality of defects by introducing trial micro-defects with varying positions, sizes and mechanical properties.

On montre que la modélisation du comportement de la liaison acier béton est indispensable pour prédire correctement l’espacement et l’ouverture des fissures dans les structures en béton armé sous chargements sévères, grandeurs primordiales lorsqu’on veut évaluer la perméabilité au gaz par exemple.

La transition d'un régime à l'autre est encore mal maîtrisée en modélisation. L'enjeu de l'étude proposée est de permettre de construire une compréhension de cette phase de transition à partir de son étude expérimentale. Cette dernière se fait en adaptant le suivi optique avec corrélation d'images aux essais de fatigue en se plaçant aux échelles fines.

L’approche proposée, prenant en compte les phénomènes physiques complexes mis en jeu lors de la croissance des couches, a pour but de décrire tous les scénarii de rupture en s’appuyant sur les méthodes à discontinuité forte pour gérer la fissuration des couches et un modèle d’interface pour reproduire la décohésion métal/oxyde.

On utilise une analyse asymptotique pour éviter un maillage raffiné de la géométrie à petite échelle. Une méthode à discontinuité forte permet alors de suivre le développement de fissures à partir des zones de concentration de contrainte générées par les perturbations géométriques. Une stratégie de transfert de champ basée sur des critères énergétiques est mise en œuvre pour assurer le couplage.

The objective of the thesis is to develop a finite element method capable of taking into account the development of localization zones without pathological dependence on mesh discretization. This is achieved by the development of elements taking into account discontinuities of the displacement field. The method allows to describe the behavior of massive structures by combining two types of dissipation: a bulk dissipation generated by diffuse phenomenon at the scale of the structure and taken into account by a classical continuum model and a surfacic dissipation genarated by the apparition of localized dissipative phenomenon localized at the level of localization zones and taken into account by the introduction of discontinuous displacement field associated to discrete laws linking traction and displacement jump. This method has been developed and implemented for plasticity model (representation of shear bands) and for damage materials (representation of "macro cracks" ).; L'objectif de la thèse est de développer une méthode éléments finis permettant de rendre compte de l'apparition de zones de localisation de façon indépendante du maillage. In this work, we present a new finite element for Timoshenko beam model that enables a very efficient computation of the ultimate limit load for reinforced concrete frames. The proposed stress-resultant model combines the descriptions of the diffuse plastic failure in the beam and the localized failure with creation of the corresponding plastic hinges representing both bending and shear failure mechanisms. The latter requires introducing the corresponding enhancement of the beam finite element kinematics by using the rotation and displacement discontinuities. Such an enhancement is formulated in the appropriate variational framework with the numerical implementation placed in the framework of incompatible mode method. The proposed model is shown to be capable of enforcing the mesh objectivity of the post- peak response computations. The results of several numerical simulations are given in order to illustrate a very satisfying performance of the proposed methodology for ultimate limit load computation of reinforced concrete frames.

In this work we propose a field transfer operator for remeshing carried out in the course of incremental analysis of a non linear inelastic behavior. The proposed procedure is geared towards the ultimate load computation of a complex structure, where we choose the appropriate mesh grading for each different phase of computations, starting with a coarse mesh for the initial linear response and going towards a more refined mesh for highly nonlinear inelastic response. The proposed projection operator is developed on the basis of diffuse approximation method. The key feature of such an operator is to guarantee the conservation of relevant mechanics quantities which ensures a superior performance of the proposed field transfer with respect to the standard remeshing procedure. We present the illustrative results both for an isotropic damage model and standard plasticity model, indicating very satisfying performance.

Highlights? Introduce a new localized failure model with thermoplastic coupling. ? ED-FEM method, including enhancements of both displacement and temperature, is used. ? Numerical results for 1D, 2D problem are presented and discussed. In this paper we present thermo-plasticity model for dealing with localized failure with softening, which is capable of accounting for mechanical loading and heat transfer simultaneously. The main point concerns the localized failure of the structure which results with heterogeneity of stress and strain field for temperature dependent properties. We discuss how to employ structured mesh for such case, and construct the appropriate enhancements of the displacement and temperature fields by using the finite element method with embedded discontinuities (ED-FEM). For clarity, we first consider 1D case, and provide several illustrative numerical simulations. We then provide the corresponding generalization of the proposed model to 2D case and its numerical implementation based upon structured ED-FEM mesh.
