The article presents a study on the effect of the null mutation in a hormone-sensitive lipase gene on the risk of having type 2 diabetes. Topics include the important enzyme for lipolysis called hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), the use of genotyping and association analyses, and the mutation results like small adipocytes, insulin resistance, and inflammation. It also discusses the role of HSL in systemic lipid regulation and glucose homeostasis.
