This study investigated the stressors and enhancers for students reported by students and faculty who are enrolled or teach in accredited marriage and family therapy programs. Results indicated that students (n = 112) and faculty members (n = 43) differ in their perceptions of six out of thirteen different program characteristics: information to prospective students, professional development, career guidance and placement services, mentoring, program climate, and feedback provided to students. Faculty perceived these program characteristics more enhancing than students. However, students’ and faculty means were ranked similarly in prioritization.

The increasing popularity of social networking sites is changing the way therapists interact with others personally and professionally. Interface over the Internet present unique challenges to the therapeutic relationship concerning privacy and ethical boundaries. However, lack of guidelines concerning the use of SNSs often force therapists to navigate the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Code of Ethics and federal laws. This article provides a beginning discussion for therapists to consider new ethical decisions in the context of engaging in online interactions with clients. The authors provide guided questions and vignettes to elicit reflection among therapists on their decision-making.

Many children are brought into therapy because parents view them as having a “problem.” Children will often internalize these negative perspectives from others and create an identity based upon these notions. This paper presents a novel way for marriage and family therapists to integrate narrative and play therapy techniques for children and their families. It provides a model that is organized according to Erik Erikson’s psychosocial stage theory to ensure that developmentally appropriate techniques are being utilized. During each stage, an example is provided for further clarification.

Upon a thorough review of the literature, the authors failed to find sufficient information and resources for Christian therapists conducting sex therapy. Our intent is to provide a model for self-of-the-therapist work for both therapists and their supervisors. The model includes various worksheets for self-reflection and different considerations for the Christian therapist to review. The model is rooted in the theoretical tenets of Narrative and Bowen Family Systems theories. The authors use the ideas of understanding our dominant story and lenses from Narrative theory and differentiation and taking an I-position from Bowen Family Systems theory. We begin by giving a brief history of the relationship between Christianity and sexuality, highlight the importance of self-of-the-therapist work, and explain the rationale for use of Narrative and Bowen theories. Finally, we present our model, which includes several worksheets for use in supervision or independently by the therapist.
