Abstract

Renal artery disease is the most common cause of secondary hypertension worldwide. B-mode and Doppler ultrasound are considered the modalities of choice for the imaging of the renal arteries. However, an adequate examination can be plagued by difficulties in patients with unfavorable anatomy. UltraFast™ ultrasound is faster, performed with higher frame rates, and enables prospective and retrospective data analysis with quantification of flow data in the obtained image, so it may be able to resolve some of the difficulties encountered during conventional ultrasound examinations in patients with suspected renal artery disease.

Abstract

The six European radiation protection platforms represent the divers and multidisciplinary European radiation protection research community. Together we highly value integration and the expression of a common vision to ensure that radiation protection research and innovation maximally respond to the societal needs for radiation protection of humans and environment. Therefore, MEENAS, the Consortium of European Radiation Protection Research Platforms, MELODI, EURADOS, EURAMED, NERIS, ALLIANCE and SHARE, was officially established in March 2020. The broad objectives of MEENAS are to: • Promote the integration and the efficiency of European R&D in radiation protection to better protect humans (public, patients and workers) and environment. • Advance scientific excellence. • Further develop and implement the joint R&D roadmap. • Maintain and develop European research capacity. • Encourage scientific education and training and foster key research infrastructures in the field of radiation protection. • Foster international collaboration and collaboration with sister organizations and networks in a nonexclusive manner by open interaction with the wider research community and stakeholders. MEENAS operates as a strong shared-voiced vehicle towards third parties, such as the European Commission, and intends to enforce the position of radiation protection research in Europe and beyond. MEENAS contributed to shaping the European radiation protection Research and Innovation landscape. A robust radiation protection co-funded partnership vision document was established, which formed the basis for PIANOFORTE (Partnership for European research in radiation protection and detection of ionizing radiation: towards a safer use and improved protection of the environment and human health), our radiation protection R&D community response to the HORIZON-EURATOM-2021-NRT-01-09 call. 5. International survey on residency programs in radiology: similarities and differences among 17 countries

Abstract

Objective: With the initiative of the ACR International Economics Committee, a multinational survey was conducted to evaluate radiology residency programs around the world. Methods: A 31-question survey was developed. It included: economic issues, program size and length, resident's activities during daytime and call, academic aspects including syllabus and examinations. Data was tabulated using the forementioned thematic framework and was qualitatively analyzed. Results: Responses were received from all 17 countries that were invited to participate (France, Netherlands, Israel, UK, Russia, USA, Japan, India, Germany, Canada, Turkey, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, and Greece). Residency length varied between 2 and 5 years. The certificate of residency completion is provided by a local hospital [4/17 (23%)], University [6/17 (36%)], National Board [6/17 (36%)], and Ministry of Health [1/17 (6%)]. There was variability among the number of residency programs and residents per program ranging from 15 to 300 programs per nation with a 1–700 residents in each one respectively. Salaries varied significantly and ranged from 8000 to 75,000 USD equivalent. Exams are an integral part of training in all surveyed countries. Length of call varied between 5 and 26 h and the number of monthly calls ranged from 3 to 6. The future of radiology was judged as growing in [12/17 (70%)] countries and stagnant in [5/17 (30%)] countries. Discussion: Radiology residency programs worldwide have many similarities. The differences are in the structure of the residency programs. Stagnation and uncertainties need to be addressed to ensure the continued development of the next generation of radiologists. Summary statement: There are many similarities in the academic aims and approach to education and training of radiology residency programs worldwide. The differences are in the structure of the residency programs and payments to individual residents. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.

Ivankovic (3) Keywords: Keywords Ultrasonography; Detrusor thickness; Children Abstract: The aim was to measure detrusor thickness in healthy children, using high frequency ultrasonography, to determine normal values that could be used for the evaluation of pathological bladder conditions. Ultrasound (US) was performed in 62 children (38 boys, 24 girls, 20 months -- 18 years, mean 8.4+-4.5 years) with the absence of clinical or laboratory pathological changes of the urinary tract. The detrusor thickness was measured at the posterior, anterior and lateral bladder walls, and the average thickness was calculated for each bladder wall in every child. The mean detrusor thickness was 1.17+-0.45 mm (range 0.4--2.8 mm) for the anterior bladder wall, 1.25+-0.45 mm (range 0.5--3.0 mm) for the posterior bladder wall, 1.18+-0.44 mm (range 0.4--2.9 mm) for the left lateral wall, and 1.19+-0.45 mm (range 0.4--2.8 mm) for the right lateral wall. There was a significant correlation of mean detrusor thickness with age. Using high-frequency US transducers it was possible to measure the detrusor thickness of the anterior and posterior bladder walls in all children. The mean normal detrusor thickness is 1.2+-0.45 mm (range 0.4--3 mm) when the bladder is full. Future studies should evaluate this method in children with functional, neuropathic and anatomical dysfunctions of the lower urinary system. 16. Staging of endometrial cancer with MRI: Guidelines of the European Society of Urogenital Imaging

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to define guidelines for endometrial cancer staging with MRI. The technique included critical review and expert consensus of MRI protocols by the female imaging subcommittee of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology, from ten European institutions, and published literature between 1999 and 2008. The results indicated that high field MRI should include at least two T2-weighted sequences in sagittal, axial oblique or coronal oblique orientation (short and long axis of the uterine body) of the pelvic content. High-resolution post-contrast images acquired at 2min ± 30 s after intravenous contrast injection are suggested to be optimal for the diagnosis of myometrial invasion. If cervical invasion is suspected, additional slice orientation perpendicular to the axis of the endocervical channel is recommended. Due to the limited sensitivity of MRI to detect lymph node metastasis without lymph node-specific contrast agents, retroperitoneal lymph node screening with pre-contrast sequences up to the level of the kidneys is optional. The likelihood of lymph node invasion and the need for staging lymphadenectomy are also indicated by high-grade histology at endometrial tissue sampling and by deep myometrial or cervical invasion detected by MRI. Contains fulltext : 177890.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), EUSOBI and 30 national breast radiology bodies support mammography for population-based screening, demonstrated to reduce breast cancer (BC) mortality and treatment impact. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the reduction in mortality is 40 % for women aged 50-69 years taking up the invitation while the probability of false-positive needle biopsy is <1 % per round and overdiagnosis is only 1-10 % for a 20-year screening. Mortality reduction was also observed for the age groups 40-49 years and 70-74 years, although with "limited evidence". Thus, we firstly recommend biennial screening mammography for average-risk women aged 50-69 years; extension up to 73 or 75 years, biennially, is a second priority, from 40-45 to 49 years, annually, a third priority. Screening with thermography or other optical tools as alternatives to mammography is discouraged. Preference should be given to population screening programmes on a territorial basis, with double reading. Adoption of digital mammography (not film-screen or phosphor-plate computer radiography) is a priority, which also improves sensitivity in dense breasts. Radiologists qualified as screening readers should be involved in programmes. Digital breast tomosynthesis is also set to become "routine mammography" in the screening setting in the next future. Dedicated pathways for high-risk women offering breast MRI according to national or international guidelines and recommendations are encouraged. KEY POINTS: * EUSOBI and 30 national breast radiology bodies support screening mammography. * A first priority is double-reading biennial mammography for women aged 50-69 years. * Extension to 73-75 and from 40-45 to 49 years is also encouraged. * Digital mammography (not film-screen or computer radiography) should be used. * DBT is set to become "routine mammography" in the screening setting in the next future.

23. Thermography is not a feasible method for breast cancer screening

Abstract

Breast cancer is a common malignancy causing high mortality in women especially in developed countries. Due to the contribution of mammographic screening and improvements in therapy, the mortality rate from breast cancer has decreased considerably. An imaging-based early detection of breast cancer improves the treatment outcome. Mammography is generally established not only as diagnostic but also as screening tool, while breast ultrasound plays a major role in the diagnostic setting in distinguishing solid lesions from cysts and in guiding tissue sampling. Several indications are established for contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. Thermography was not validated as a screening tool and the only study performed long ago for evaluating this technology in the screening setting demonstrated very poor results. The conclusion that thermography might be feasible for screening cannot be derived from studies with small sample size, unclear selection of patients, and in which mammography and thermography were not blindly compared as screening modalities. Thermography can not be used to aspirate, biopsy or localize lesions preoperatively since no method so far was described to accurately transpose the thermographic location of the lesion to the mammogram or ultrasound and to surgical specimen. Thermography cannot be proclaimed as a screening method, without any evidence whatsoever.

Procjenjuju se intrarenalni doplerski spektri u zdrave djece mjerenjem akceleracijskog vremena i indeksa otpora. Vrijednosti akceleracijskog vremena jednake su u svim dobnim skupinama djece i ne razlikuju se od vrijednosti u odrasloj dobi. Granična vrijednost RI 0.70 koja se primjenjuje u odrasloj dobi za procjenu renalne vaskularne rezistencije može se u dječjoj dobi primijeniti tek od 6. godine života.
