Simple Summary: The poultry industry suffers substantial economic losses under heat stress conditions, which detrimentally impact the productivity, physiology, and immune status of the birds. This study focused on the investigation of Bacillus licheniformis-fermented product supplementation on the growth and productivity of laying ducks experiencing heat stress. The results showed that B. licheniformis-fermented products could be a valuable dietary supplement for enhancing the growth performance and resilience of ducks under heat-stress conditions, possibly offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to antibiotics in poultry production. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of various concentrations of Bacillus licheniformis-fermented products (BLFP) on the growth and productivity of laying ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) subjected to heat stress during eight weeks of a feeding trial. A total of 150 one-day-old Brown Tsaiya ducks of both sexes were divided into five groups, with each group having three replicates and 10 ducks each for evaluation of growth performance. The treatment groups received dietary supplements of BLFP at levels of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%, along with a group receiving flavomycin (F) at 5 ppm, all over a 24-week period. The fermentation process in this study utilized a B. licheniformis strain (ATCC 12713) for the production of the spores through solid-state fermentation. The control group was given a basal diet consisting of yellow corn and soybean meal. The results showed that as compared to the flavomycin group, ducks in the 0.3% BLFP group had significantly higher body weights and better feed conversion rates. In addition, during the three weeks, the BLFP group showed higher feed consumption as compared to the control group. The jejunum villi length was significantly increased in the 0.2% BLPF group as compared to the control and flavomycin groups. This study also found that the flavomycin group had a significantly higher egg conversion rate, while the 0.1–0.3% BLFP groups had improved feed intake and the 0.3% group had significantly enhanced egg yolk color. Additionally, the 0.2% BLFP group showed substantial decreases in IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 levels in the liver as well as an uptick in the tight junction protein Occludin gene expression in the colon when compared to the control group. Furthermore, the expression of the heat shock protein 70 in the gut upregulated in the 0.1% and 0.2% BLFP groups. In conclusion, these observations demonstrate that dietary supplementation of 0.2% BLFP is an ideal concentration to increase gut morphology, alleviate inflammatory response, and promote gut integrity in heat-stressed laying ducks. Objective The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of different colors produced by light emitting diode (LED) on Brown Tsaiya ducks. Methods A total of 144 female Brown Tsaiya ducks were randomly allocated into three individual cage rearing chambers with different LED illumination colors as treatments. Three different treatments were: i) white color, ii) blue color, and iii) red color. The experiment periods were from ducks 21 to 49 weeks of age, determined traits included i) egg laying performance, ii) feed intake, iii) egg shell breaking strength, iv) egg shell thickness, v) egg Haugh unit, vi) egg weight, vii) serum Estradiol and Progesterone concentration, and viii) behavior pattern. Results The results indicated that when compared with white and blue color, red color could stimulate ducks sexual maturation and raised the egg laying performance. The red light group was also observed to have the highest feed intake among three treatments. The blue treatment had the lowest egg shell breaking strength and the highest egg weight among three treatments, nevertheless, no significant difference was observed among three treatments on egg shell thickness and egg Haugh unit. The red light group had higher serum estradiol concentration than the white and blue groups, but no significant difference among treatments on the serum Progesterone concentration was found. The results of behavior pattern indicated that red light group showed more feeding and less resting behavior compared to the blue light group. Conclusion We found a potential of applying red light illumination in the indoor laying duck raising system with positive results on egg laying performance and acceptable egg weight, equivalent egg qualities compared to white and blue light.

This study aims to conduct the performance test on residual feed consumption (RFC) traits in the 11th generation of Better Feed Efficiency Brown Tsaiya (BFEBT) and its control line for continuous improvement on feed conversion ratio in BFEBT. The feed consumption, egg mass, body weight at the start and end of the test period of individual ducks were recorded from 34 to 37 weeks of age to calculate RFC. The average of feed consumption, egg mass, and feed conversion ratio in BFEBT were 3,384 g, 1,637 g and 2.09, respectively, while those in the control line were 3,850 g, 1,755 g, and 2.23, respectively. Compared with the previous generation, the feed consumption and feed conversion ratio in BFEBT were almost the same, and the performances were better than in the control line; the egg production increased slightly than the 10th generation, but still slightly lower than the control line. The phenotypic value of RFC of the 11th generation of BFEBT and its control line was -116.5 g and 165.6 g, respectively, the difference between the two lines was slightly less than the previous generation. In the near future, a genetic selection index, taking both feed efficiency and egg production traits into account, will be established based on the above results to promote sustainable management of BFEBT. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) for the selection on residual feed consumption (RFC) trait. A total of 576 individuals from the 5th to 10th generations of Better Feed Efficiency Brown Tsaiya (BFEBT) and its control line were genotyped with a duck whole-genome array containing 343,950 SNPs. After quality control, 214,958 SNPs were applied to estimate the GEBV of RFC, and the estimated breeding values (EBV) of RFC, the correlation coefficient between the phenotypic value (P) to EBV and GEBV were also calculated. Then we sorted the breeders according to P, EBV, and GEBV to simulate the actual selection. The results showed that the correlation coefficient between RFC's EBV and GEBV was 0.9633; as for the simulation of actual selection, the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was 0.9636, and the poorer 50% of individuals were exactly the same in two sorting ways. The results indicate that GEBV estimated by whole-genome array can be helpful on the selection of RFC in BFEBT and its control line. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of present study was to explore the effect of oral dioxin-like compounds on growth performance, egg production and relative organ weights of brown Tsaiya ducks. Twenty female ducks were used and divided into control and dioxin groups. Each duck in dioxin group was fed a capsule containing dioxin per day for 7 days, and then raised the female and male ducks together for mating, female ducks were fed capsules for another three weeks. After we stopped feeding the ducks capsules, ducks were continuned to breed for 21 days. Results revealed that feeding with dioxins did not significantly affect the growth performance and egg weight of ducks. However, feeding with dioxin significantly decreased the percentage of abdominal fat to body weight, and increased the liver weight to body weight ratio. Ducks in the dioxin group also exhibited a slightly reduced the weight of reproductive tract in comparison with the control group, but the difference was not significantly significant. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of residual feed consumption (RFC) selection on the population genetic structure. Fifty ducks of the Better Feed Efficiency Brown Tsaiya (BFEBT) in the 6th generation and 46 ducks of its control line were investigated by 11 Tsaiya microsatellite markers, and a cross-generation compatison was also conducted with the previous 2nd, 4th, and 5th generations. The results showed that there was no significant difference between BFEBT and its control line in genetic vatiation. The FIS (Wright's fixation index) value revealed that the populations were still not faced with severe inbreeding. There was significant differentiation between these two lines in the 4th and 5th generations (P < 0.05), and the FST values increased with generations of selection. In order to promote the sustainable management of these duck lines, the cross-generational genetic monitoring ·will be carried on continuously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was conducted whole-genome resequencing to discover single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) potentially associated with blue-shelled eggs in Brown Tsaiya LRI3. A total of 10 ducks in the 15th generation of Brown Tsaiya LRI3 had been chosen on the basis of pedigree and phenotypic value of a* in L*a*b* system, while these ducks' DNA have been used to conduct whole-genome resequencing separately. The sequences were aligned to the reference genome to call SNPs, then the common SNPs between Brown Tsaiya LRI3 and Brown Tsaiya LRI 1 we obtained previously would be deducted to select out Brown Tsaiya LRI3-specific SNPs. The results showed that there was a total of 460,429 Brown Tsaiya LRI3-specific SNPs, while 153,245 SNPs were located in the genic region. These line-specific SNPs will be considered as candidate mutations associated with blueshelled eggs, and in the future, and will be further investigated the availability in genomic selection for blue-shelled eggs.
