The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Abstract

The FCC-ee is a proposed future high-energy, high-intensity and high-precision lepton collider. Here, we present the latest development for the FCC-ee interaction regions, which shall ensure optimum conditions for the particle physics experiments. We discuss measures of background reduction and a revised interaction region layout including a low impedance compact beam chamber design. Abstract

The KEK accelerator test faciliry (ATF) conducts R&D on a beam for the Linear Collider. The damping ring provides a low emittance electron beam and the final focus test beamline (ATF2) provides studies on small beam of nanometer level by utilizing a low emittance beam. These R&D are conducted under the ATF international collaboration with many contributions of graduate students around the world. A review meeting to discuss the further studies at ATF will be held on Septem- ber 29, 2020 as a short tele-conference. This report provides the information necessary for discussion. We summarize the remaining studies that will be done in the coming years and ILC preparatory period for further improvements of nanometer beam techno- logy, and the use of ATF facility as a test bench for ILC subsystem in the preparatory period and after. The possible utilizations of the ATF/ATF2 beams for R&D beyond Linear Colliders are also presented.

Abstract

The Compact LInear Collider (CLIC) [1] luminosity requires extremely low beam emittances. Therefore, high beam position stability is needed to provide cen-tral collisions of the opposing bunches. Since ground motion (GM) amplitudes are likely to be larger than the required tolerances, an Active Vibration Control (AVC) system is required to damp quadrupole motion to the desired value of 0.2 nm RMS at 4 Hz. This paper focuses on the vertical final focus quadrupoles (QD0, QF1) stabilization and demonstrates its feasibility. An AVC system to be installed under QD0 and QF1 has been developed and successfully tested at LAPP. Based on a dedicated homemade sensor with an ex-tremely low internal noise level of 0.05 nm at 4 Hz, it damps GM in the frequency range [3;70] Hz by up to 30 dB, leading to RMS values of approximately 0.25 nm at 4 Hz. Simulations based on GM measured in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experimental hall [2] show that with such a GM level, the specifications would only be achieved with a Passive Insulation (PI) system, which would filter ground motion starting at ~ 25 Hz, Proceedings of the 8th Int. Abstract

With pinpoint accuracy, the next generation of Linear Collider such as CLIC will collide electron and positron beams at a centre of mass energy of 3 TeV with a desired peak luminosity of 2*1034 cm⁻²s^{−1}. One of the many challenging features of CLIC is its ability to collide beams at the sub-nanometer scale at the Interaction Point (IP). Such a high level of accuracy could only be achieved by integrating Active Vibration Isolation system (AVI) upstream the collision to prevent the main source of vibration; Ground Motion (GM). Complementary control systems downstream the collision (Interaction Point FeedBack (IPFB), Orbit FeedBack(OFB)) allow low frequency vibration rejection. This paper focus on a dedicated AVI table designed for the last focusing quadrupole QD0 where the specifications are the most stringent. Combining FeedForward (FF) and FeedBack (FB) techniques, the prototype is able to reduce GM down to 0.6 nm RMS(4Hz) experimentally without load. These performances couldn’t be achieved without cutting edge-technology such as sub-nanometer piezo actuator, ultra-low noise accelerometer and seismometers and an accurate guidance system. Abstract

Internationale.; International audience; Vibration isolation is a critical issue in various precision engineering fields like high-resolution metrology and micromachining. An active ground motion isolation system is presented in this work. This system provides vibrations isolation at the nanometer scale for magnets of a future particle accelerator (Compact LInear Collider – CLIC). The design and experimental validation of this novel compact isolation system with advanced actuating abilities will be discussed. This work focuses on the design and the model of the active isolation system. Moreover, from the control system point of view, the feasibility of the closed loop control is demonstrated using seismic sensors that are usually not dedicated for real time control but for ground motion monitoring. The mechanical design and instrumentation are investigated to reach subnanometer capabilities for heavy load (up to 50kg). The electromechanical design, including the implementation of piezoelectric actuators and the dynamical aspects are described. Along with this, the acquisition electronics and the choice of sensors with subnanometer capability are discussed. The ability of the isolator to obtain and measure subnanometer displacements (0.2 nm) is experimentally demonstrated. A dynamic experimental characterization is performed. The different parts of the system are individually identified and modeled. Combining these models, the precise global open loop model of the proposed isolation structure is obtained and validated. Based on the identified model, a control scheme is developed to attenuate ground motion and isolate a platform in a 12 Hz to 100Hz frequency range. A simulation of ground motion attenuation is experimentally validated using the measurement from two types of seismic sensors (accelerometers and geophones).

Abstract

The SuperB project is an international effort aiming at building in Italy a very high luminosity e⁺e⁻ (10³⁶ cm⁻² sec⁻¹) asymmetric collider at the B mesons cm energy. The accelerator design has been extensively studied and changed during the past year. The present design, - based on the new collision scheme, with large Piwinski angle and the use of ’crab’ sextupoles, which has been successfully tested at the DAΦNE Phi-Factory at LNF Frascati, - provides larger flexibility, better dynamic aperture and in the Low Energy Ring spin manipulation sections, needed for having longitudinal polarization of the electron beam at the Interaction Point. The Interaction Region has been further optimized in terms of apertures and reduced backgrounds in the detector. The injector complex design has been also updated. Abstract

Following previous measurements, more detailed preliminary ground motion measurements have been performed at the LNF site for the Super B project site characterization. First, results of vertical ground motion measurements done during 18 hours are shown in order to get an idea of the evolution of the ground motion amplitude with time. Secondly, measurements of ground motion (in the 3 directions of space) were performed at different locations on surface in order to evaluate and to compare the influence of various vibration sources. Then, results of ground motion coherence measured for different distances at two locations close to each other but with soft and rigid floor are compared. These measurements are also compared to the ones done in the ATF2 beam line where a special floor was built for stability. By this way, the results reveal that the LNF is a good site to use ground motion coherence properties for stability like it has been done for ATF2., Proceedings of the 1st International Particle Accelerator Conference, IPAC2010, Kyoto, Japan
