BACKGROUND Acute arterial embolism of the extremities is a surgical emergency. Atrial fibrillation is the major etiology of acute arterial embolism of the extremities. Emergency femoral artery thrombectomy can successfully treat this issue. However, polycythemia vera (PV) may sometimes explain this medical emergency. Recurrent thrombosis in the lower extremities after thrombectomy can be found in patients with PV, and reoperation is needed for this condition. CASE SUMMARY A 68-year-old man in China suffered from sudden pain in the left lower extremity for 14 h. The examination in the emergency department showed a diagnosis of acute arterial embolism of the extremities combined with PV. The patient’s complaint disappeared after repeat emergency thrombectomy. CONCLUSION Patients with acute arterial embolism of the extremities should be treated carefully, especially those who have recurrent thrombosis after emergency thrombectomy. Clinicians should be aware of PV, a rare cause of acute arterial embolism of the extremities. The combination of thrombectomy, phlebotomy, and antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs may be a suitable therapeutic regimen for these patients.

To review and analyze the trend of researches on prostatitis in China in the past two decades.We searched the core collection of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) for studies on prostatitis, and analyzed the data obtained using Excel, Citespace and VOSviewer.Totally, 1 216 original articles were identified, with 3 271 keywords, ≥3-time high-frequency keywords accounting for 12.9%, with "", "", "chronic prostatitis", "prostatitis", and "" as the top 5 ones, each with a centrality higher than 300. Major prostatitis-related studies focused on the 8 keywords, namely, prostatitis, prostatic fluid, rats, prostate, syndromes, efficacy observation, compound (in traditional Chinese medicine, TCM), and therapeutic application. The included literature involved 2 808 authors, with 402 involved more than twice and most of them in a scattered manner. The major topics of prostatitis studies varied in the past two decades, focusing on TCM therapies, promotion of blood circulation and stasis and comprehensive nursing in 2000－2001, on animal models, CD4+ lymphocytes and other experimental molecules in 2007－2010, on urodynamics, risk factors and specific antigens in 2013－2016, and on literature information resources in 2016.The immune mechanism remains a hot topic in the future researches on prostatitis. In terms of treatment of the disease, TCM has a potential value, and more practice and studies are required for an optimal combination of TCM and Western medicine. Strengthened collaborative efforts are needed to establish an authoritative source channel for the keywords, and incorporate it into the national standard system, and above all, to integrate the prostatitis study into multi-disciplinary researches, eliminate academic barriers, encourage collaborative innovation with multiple parties, and promote the exchanges and development in this field.

Background Death-associated protein kinase (DAPK1) is one of the positive regulators of apoptosis, and it is widely involved in apoptosis induced by multiple pathways. We examined that the function of DAPK1 in Clinical treatment of arterial aneurysm and its underlying mechanisms. Arterial aneurysm is a common cerebrovascular disease with high disability and fatality rate. Objectives Male C57BL/6 mice or DAPK1−/− mice were injected with 50 mg/kg pentobarbital sodium and then were injected with angiotensin II (AngII) infusion for vivo model. hASMCs (Human artery smooth muscle cell) were treated with murine recombinant IL-6 (20 ng ml−1; Cell Signaling) for vitro model. Results DAPK1 gene, mRNA expression, and protein expression were induced in mice of arterial aneurysm. DAPK1 mRNA expression was increased and Area Under Curve was 0.9075 in patients with arterial aneurysm. Knockout of DAPK1 decreased inflammation and vascular injury in mice model of arterial aneurysm. Beclin1/NLRP3 (NACHT, LRR, and PYD domains-containing protein 3) signal pathway is a critical downstream effector of DAPK1 by TAP production. The regulation of Beclin1 participated in the effects of DAPK1 on inflammation of arterial aneurysm by ATP-dependent NLRP3 inflammasome. The regulation of NLRP3 participated in the effects of DAPK1 on inflammation of arterial aneurysm. Conclusion Collectively, our data indicated that DAPK1 may be a potential biomarker for arterial aneurysm in clinical treatment and activated inflammation levels in arterial aneurysm through NLRP3 inflammasome by Beclin1. DAPK1 might be a key pathogenic event underlying excess inflammation of arterial aneurysm.

In some applications of piezoelectric three-dimensional inkjet printing, the materials used are power-law fluids as they are shear thinning. Their time-varying viscosities affect the droplet formation, which is determined by the volume flow rate at the nozzle outlet. To obtain a fine printing effect, it is necessary to present a driving waveform design method that considers the shear-thinning viscosities of materials to control the volume flow rate at the nozzle outlet, which lays the foundation for the single and stable droplet generation during the printing process. In this research, we established the relationship between the driving waveform and the volume flow rate at the nozzle outlet by modifying a model that describes the inkjet mechanism of power-law fluid. The modified model was used to present a driving waveform design method based on iterative learning control. The iterative learning law of the method was designed based on the gradient descent algorithm and demonstrated its convergence. The driving waveform design method was verified to be practical and feasible by implementing drop generation experiments.

Aim The stigma of mental disorders and poor treatment compliance can deprive patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) of receiving standard treatment. This study aimed to clarify whether MDD patients' stigma and treatment non‐compliance issues can be mitigated using group cognitive behavioural therapy (GCBT). Methods Eighty‐eight participants with first‐episode MDD were randomly divided into GCBT groups (GCBTs) and control groups (Cs). The Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD‐24), Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS‐8™) and Stigma Scale (SS) were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect on all participants before and after receiving GCBT. To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with tamsulosin hydrochloride sustained release capsule on chronic prostatitis (CP) of damp and heat stasis.A total of 70 patients with CP of damp and heat stasis were randomized into an acupuncture plus medication group (35 cases, 4 cases dropped off) and a medication group (35 cases, 5 cases dropped off). In the medication group, tamsulosin hydrochloride sustained release capsule was given orally, 0.2 mg a time, once each night. On the basis of treatment in the medication group, EA was applied at Guanyuan (CV 4), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Yinglingquan (SP 9), with disperse-dense wave, 5 mA in intensity for 30 min. Treatment for 30 days was as one course, and totally 3 courses were required in both groups. Before treatment, 1, 2, 3 months into treatment and at the follow-up of 2 months after treatment, the TCM syndrome score and National Institutes of Health chronic prostatitis symptom index (NIH-CPSI) score were observed, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated in both groups.Compared before treatment, the TCM syndrome scores of 3 months into treatment and follow-up were decreased in the acupuncture plus medication group (Acupuncture combined with medication can improve the clinical symptoms in patients with CP of damp and heat stasis, and its therapeutic effect is superior to simple western medication.

Background: Athletic Injuries is a major cause of pain and functional limitation.Purpose: To evaluate the effects of acupuncture for treating Athletic Injuries.Data Synthesis: Seventeen trials met the selection criteria, including 17 reported sufficient data. Standardized mean differences were calculated by using differences in improvements from baseline between patients assigned to acupuncture and those assigned to control groups. Compared with patients in waiting list control groups, patients who received acupuncture reported clinically relevant improvements in pain (standardized mean difference, -1.20 [95% CI, -1.84 to -0.56]. Patients who received acupuncture also reported clinically relevant improvements in pain and function compared with patients in usual care control groups. Compared with a sham control, acupuncture provided clinically relevant improvements in CK (standardized mean difference, -2.50 [95% CI, -24.73 to -0.27]) and clinically relevant improvements in LDH (standardized mean difference, -5.63 [95% CI, -16.03 to 4.77]) and in Lysholm (standardized mean difference, -0. 76 [95% CI, -1.52 to -0.01]).Limitation: The inconsistent results of the controlled trials may be due to the variability of cupuncture and sham protocols, patient samples, and settings.Conclusions: The controlled trials show clinically relevant benefits of acupuncture for treating Athletic Injuries.

Objective: Tennis elbow is a kind of disease mainly characterized by localized pain in the external epicondylar of humerus and dysfunction of wrist extensor and forearm rotation. It is a high-incidence sports injury disease with an incidence rate of 1% to 3% in the population [1], and its incidence rate can be as high as 50% among tennis players [2], causes great distress to tennis players and even affects their careers. The current mainstream treatment is the use of injectable drugs and physical therapy [2], but poor efficacy. This article will discuss the clinical efficacy of a new type of treatment (double needle acupuncture (Bingzhen) for tennis elbow.Methods: 63 patients with tennis elbow were treated by Bingzhen therapy. There were the main treatment points including Quchi, Shousanlici, brachioradialis myofascial trigger point, musculus extensor carpi radialis longus myofascial trigger point, anconeus myofascial trigger point. A course of Bingzhen therapy included therapy twice a week for 2 weeks. To systematically review the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). PubMed, Cochrane library Central, Web of Science, Wang-fang Database, and CNKI were searched from their inception to June 30, 2016. Data of acupuncture for CP/CPPS following randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was included. The data were analyzed using the Cochrane Collaboration Review Manager. ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical features of extrahepatic biliary adenoma and the role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the diagnosis and treatment of extrahepatic biliary adenoma. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical manifestations, imaging findings, ERCP treatment, and follow-up data of 7 patients with extrahepatic biliary adenoma who were admitted to Department of Gastroenterology in The People′s Hospital of Northern Jiangsu from January 2010 to June 2016. Results Selective ERCP was performed for 7 patients after the exclusion of surgical contraindications. Intraoperative cholangiography showed interruption of different parts of the bile duct, and brush cytology under the guidance of guide wire and bile duct biopsy with ultrafine biopsy forceps were performed for all patients. The pathological examination showed bile duct adenoma. Among these patients, 6 were treated with ERCP and 1 was treated with Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy after ERCP. ConclusionAs a minimally invasive examination, ERCP helps to determine the cause of the disease and evaluate patients′ condition. When patients have surgical contraindications or are not willing to choose surgery, ERCP can be used as palliative therapy to relieve their clinical symptoms.
