In Table 4, which reports numbers of different procedures in each country, column headings for Gastric Plication (GP) and One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) have been interchanged. Despite this error, we want to reassure the reader that all the numbers have been double-checked and the results are correct. All the other tables and charts have not been influenced by this mistake. Numbers and statistics of OAGB worldwide and in the IFSO chapters have not been altered. In Table 5, please note that the figures of the populations refer to the adult population (15-64 years) eligible for bariatric and metabolic surgery (source: http://www.indexmundi.com/it/). One challenge of collecting socioeconomic data, such as data on time use, is recall biases. While time use researchers have continuously developed new methods to make data collection more accurate and easy, these methods are difficult to use in developing countries where study participants may have low literacy levels and no clock -based concepts of time. To contribute to the closing of this research gap, we developed a picture-based smartphone-app called Time-Tracker that allows the recording of data in real time to avoid recall biases. We pilot-tested the app in rural Zambia, collecting 2790 data days. In this paper, we compare the data recorded with the app to data collected with 24-hours-recall-questions. The results confirm the literature on recall biases, suggesting that using the app leads to valid results. We conclude that smartphone-apps using visual tools provide new opportunities for researchers collecting socioeconomic data in developing countries. In 2012, an expert panel composed of presidents of each of the societies, the European Chapter of the International Federation forthe Surgery of Obesity (IFSO-EC), and of the European Association forthe Study of Obesity (EASO), as well as of the chair of EASO Obesity Management Task Force (EASOOMTF) and other key representatives from IFSO-EC and EASO, devoted the joint Medico-Surgical Workshop of both institutions to the topic of metabolic surgery in advance of the 2013 European Congress on Obesity held in Liverpool. This meeting was prompted by the extraordinary advancement made in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery during the past decade. It was agreed to revise and update the 2008 Interdisciplinary European Guidelines on Surgery of Severe Obesity produced by focusing in particular on the evidence gathered in relation to the effects on diabetes and the changes in the recommendations of patient eligibility criteria. The expert panel allowed the coverage of key disciplines in the comprehensive management of obesity and obesity-associated diseases, aimed specifically at updating the clinical guidelines to reflect current knowledge, expertise and evidence-based data on metabolic and bariatric surgery.

The focus of this study is to determine the extent to which numeric (as opposed to geometric) proportions were employed in Christian basilicas of Crimea and which specific numeric proportions were applied; it also attempts to explain why certain proportions may have been chosen by the builders. Numeric proportions were identified in 14 basilicas of Crimea: 10 in Chersonesos, two on the plateaus of Mangup-Kale and Eski-Kermen in southwest Crimea, one in Partenit on the south coast and one in Tyritake, south of modern Kerch at the east end of Crimea. Most reviewed basilicas have reasonably been attributed to the 6th and early 7th centuries based largely upon archaeological evidence. In 2005, for the first time in European history, an extraordinary Expert panel named ‘The BSCG’ (Bariatric Scientific Collaborative Group), was appointed through joint effort of the major European Scientific Societies which are active in the field of obesity management. Societies that constituted this panel were: IFSO - International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, IFSO-EC International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity - European Chapter, EASO - European Association for Study of Obesity, ECOG - European Childhood Obesity Group, together with the IOTF (International Obesity Task Force) which was represented during the completion process by its representative. The BSCG was composed not only of the top officers representing the respective Scientific Societies (four acting presidents, two past presidents, one honorary president, two executive directors), but was balanced with the presence of many other key opinion leaders in the field of obesity. The BSCG composition allowed the coverage of key disciplines in comprehensive obesity management, as well as reflecting European geographical and ethnic diversity. This joint BSCG expert panel convened several meetings which were entirely focused on guidelines creation, during the past two years. There was a specific effort to develop clinical guidelines, which will reflect current knowledge, expertize and evidence based data on morbid obesity treatment.

OBJECTIVE: The authors assessed the clinical results of lipid-lowering therapy in women. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: The Program on the Surgical Control of the Hyperlipidemias (POSCH) has demonstrated that effective lowering of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in a postmyocardial infarction population significantly reduces atherosclerotic coronary heart disease (ACHD) mortality, ACHD mortality combined with a new confirmed nonfatal myocardial infarction, and the number of coronary artery bypass grafting and angioplasty procedures performed. METHODS: A review and meta-analysis were performed of the seven primary or secondary lipid/ atherosclerosis intervention trials-including POSCH-published in the English-language literature that included women and published results in women separate from the results in men or in the entire trial population. The main outcome measure analyzed was overall mortality. RESULTS: The Scottish Physicians Clofibrate Study, the Newcastle upon Tyne Clofibrate Study, and the Pravastatin Limitation of Atherosclerosis in the Coronary Arteries (PLAC I) Trial may have demonstrated a possible benefit in ACHD prognosis from effective lipid intervention in women. The other four available trials did not. The Minnesota Coronary Survey reported a 15.6% increase in overall mortality rate and a 30.6% increase in a combined cardiovascular endpoint rate in the lipid-intervention group.
