Study aim: To check if the short rehabilitation treatment (3 weeks) complemented by complex rehabilitation on advanced equipment improves the functional status of chronic stroke patients; and which clinical and objective parameters can be used to assess the efficacy of such treatment.

Development of the district heating system (DHS) is needed to achieve the Renewable Energy Directive goals. To maintain the economic profitability of DHN, the increase of intensity of heat production/consumption has to be ensured. Well, a known method is a cold production using an adsorption heat pump. However, developing a system suitable for implementation in the district heating companies is very difficult. As a solution, the authors propose a composite substation equipped with the adsorption heat pump and the heat/cold storage system based on a PCM.

Laboratory and glasshouse experiments demonstrated that priming of carrot seeds infected with Alternaria dauci did not affect the rate of transmission of the pathogen. Iprodione applied as a dust to unprimed, infected seeds at 5 g a.i. per kg seed effectively reduced disease transmission. Iprodione (0·1% a.i.) or thiram (0·1% a.i.) added in polyethylene glycol (PEG; filter paper or bubble-column priming systems) only partially reduced infection. Further dusting of the primed and dried seeds with iprodione, or alternatively application of that fungicide in a polymer film coat as the final stage in the process engineering of carrot seeds, was necessary to achieve complete control. The addition of thiram in the priming fluid, followed by an application of iprodione to the primed and dried seeds, improved the emergence and yield of carrots in the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Complex optimization of CHP plants becomes a very important issue in research and implementation, particularly in the context of increasing environmental requirements. The process in industrial CHP plants could be decomposed into several subprocesses, which could be optimized individually using dedicated solutions. The article presents the results of work of complex, multi-modular optimization project of one CHP plant located in petrochemical and refinery plant in Poland. The scope of the project is economical load dispatch optimizer aimed to increase economical profit of CHP operation, combustion optimization for boiler efficiency increase and NOX emission reduction, steam temperature advanced control for improved control quality, sootblowing optimization for reduction of steam demand for sootblowing process. The solution includes also measurement validation and correction system, which is based on data reconciliation algorithm and on-line performance monitoring system.

This paper describes the model of the novel concept liquid piston engine, which is designed to convert low-grade waste heat into electricity. The proposed dynamic oriented model is implemented in Aspen Hysys that enables simulations dynamic simulation of various working agents. The simulation results were verified with experimental data obtained from the research installation. The proposed model demonstrated relatively small discrepancies with respect to experimental research, hence it could be used as a tool for research on optimization of an innovative power plant operation, i.e. various working agents, various operating pressures.
