The goal of this study is to examine the mathematics learning approaches and metacognitive awareness of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with regard to some variables. This is a quantitative study conducted in a survey model. In the 2018-2019 academic year, the working group was secondary school students in the public schools in Central Anatolia region 6.7.8. It consists of 330 (166 girls, 164 boys) students studying at the grade level. As the data collection tools, Göktepe-Yıldız and Özdemir’s (2018) “Mathematics Learning Approach Scale”, which was originally developed by Schraw and Dennison (1994); The Metacognitional Awareness Inventory developed by Akın, Abacı and Çetin (2007) was utilized. According to the empirical findings, for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, scores for deep and strategic learning approaches are above the medium level, whereas scores for surface approach is below the medium level. In addition, it has been determined that mathematics learning approaches differ significantly according to gender, grade level and mathematics achievement. As a consequence of the analysis, it was seen that students' levels of metacognitive awareness were high. The levels of metacognitive awareness did not differ by gender, but differed significantly by grade level and mathematics achievement. In addition, while there exists a positive and statistically significant relationship between deep learning and strategic learning approaches and metacognitive awareness no statistically significant relationship was found between the surface learning approach and the metacognitive awareness.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, dördüncü ve sekizinci sınıf düzeyi ders kitaplarında yer alan soruları TIMSS 2019 programı çerçevesinde ele alınan bilişsel alanlara göre analiz etmektir. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ders kitaplarında bulunan sorular, TIMSS 2019 bilişsel alanları göz önüne alınarak ve birbirlerinden bağımsız olarak sınıflandırılmıştır. Yapılan inceleme sonucunda, dördüncü sınıf düzeyi matematik ders kitabındaki soruların %42’sinin bilme, %46’sının uygulama ve %11’inin akıl yürütme seviyesinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sekizinci sınıf matematik ders kitabında yer alan soruların ise %49’unun bilme, %48’i uygulama ve %3’ünün akıl yürütme seviyesinde olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu oranlar ile TIMSS sınavında öğrencilere yöneltilen soruların bilişsel alanlara göre dağılımı kıyaslandığında ise her iki sınıf düzeyindeki ders kitaplarında, bilme ve uygulama seviyesindeki soruların oranı TIMSS araştırmasına göre daha fazla; akıl yürütme seviyesindeki soruların ise daha az olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak her iki sınıf düzeyinde de ders kitaplarının bilme ve uygulama bilişsel becerilerine ağırlık verdiği, üst düzey bilişsel beceri gerektiren akıl yürütmeye yönelik sorulara ise daha az yer verildiği belirlenmiştir., The aim of this study is to analyze the questions in the fourth and eighth grade textbooks according to the cognitive areas addressed within the framework of the TIMSS 2019 program. The research was carried out with document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The questions in the textbooks were classified independently by both researchers, taking into account the TIMSS 2019 cognitive domains. In the findings, when we look at the distribution of the questions in the fourth grade mathematics textbook according to cognitive fields, it was determined that 42% was at the level of knowing, 46% was at the level of practice and 11% was at the level of reasoning. On the other hand, 49% of the questions in the mathematics textbook taught at the eighth grade level are at the level of knowing, 48% at the application level and 3% at the reasoning level. When these rates and the distribution of the questions asked to students in the TIMSS exam according to cognitive domains are compared, the ratio of the questions at the knowledge and the application level in the textbooks of both grade levels is higher than the TIMSS research; it was concluded that there were fewer questions at the reasoning level. As a result, it was determined that at both grade levels, textbooks focused on cognitive skills of knowing and application, and there were very few questions about reasoning that require high-level cognitive skills

Bu çalışmanın amacı sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının üstün yetenekli birey ve özel eğitime ilişkin algılarının metaforlar yoluyla incelenmesidir. Çalışma 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yılında Marmara bölgesinde bulunan bir devlet üniversitesinde yürütülmüştür. Katılımcılar sınıf eğitimi anabilim dalında öğrenim gören 3. ve 4. sınıf düzeyindeki 102 öğretmen adayıdır. Nitel araştırma yöntemi ve fenomonolojik model kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının üstün yetenekli birey kavramıyla ilgili toplam 86 tane anlamlı metafor oluşturduğu belirlenmiş ve bu metaforlar 8 kategori altında toplanmıştır. Belirlenen kategoriler “Uygun Eğitimle Faydalı Olacak Birey, Farklı ve Özel İlgi Gerektiren Birey, Keşfedilmesi Gereken Değer, Değerli Birey, Zeki Birey, Çok ve Çeşitli Bilgiye Sahip Birey, Performansı Akranlarından Yüksek Birey ve Rehberliğe İhtiyaç Duyan Birey” şeklindedir. Özel eğitim kavramı için ise 102 öğretmen adayı 82 tane anlamlı metafor oluşturmuş ve bu metaforlar 4 kategoride değerlendirilmiştir. Özel eğitim kavramına ilişkin oluşturulan kategoriler “Emek ve İlgi Gerektiren Zorlukta, Kişiye Özgü, Rehberlik Gerektiren ve Hayati Biçimde Önemli” şeklindedir. Araştırmada öğretmen adaylarının üstün yetenekli birey özelliklerinin bir kısmına dair fikirlerinin olduğu ve bu bireylerin eğitim öğretim ihtiyaçlarının farkındalığına dair metaforlar oluşturdukları belirlenmiştir. Özel eğitim kavramına ilişkin metaforlarda ise öğretmen adaylarının özel eğitimin önemi, zorluğu ve nasıl olması gerektiğiyle ilgili görüş bildirdikleri belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, adaylar özel eğitimin gerekliliğini vurgulamış, nitelikli özel eğitimin ancak profesyonel eğiticilerle olacağını düşündüklerini belirtmişlerdir.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the mathematics learning approaches of gifted students and successful students who were not diagnosed as gifted in terms of variables of giftedness, gender, grade level, parents’ profession and education level. Descriptive research model, which is one of the general survey models, was used in the study. For the 2018-2019 academic years, a total of 239 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, 84 of whom were gifted students and 155 of whom were non-gifted students, participated into the study. Data on gifted students were collected from the Science and Arts Center of a province in the Central Anatolia region, while data on non-gifted students were collected from a secondary school in the same province. Students' mathematics learning approaches were determined by using the “Scale of Mathematics Learning Approaches”. When the findings were examined, a significant differentiation was observed in favor of gifted students in the in-depth learning approach between gifted and non-gifted students. In addition, there is a significant difference in favor of female students in in-depth and strategic learning sub-dimensions among gifted students. When the mathematics learning approaches of gifted and non-gifted students were compared according to grade level, no significant difference was found in the 8th grade level average scores.

Yapılan bu çalışmada üstün yetenekli ve üstün yetenekli tanısı konulmamış başarılı öğrencilerin matematik öğrenme yaklaşımlarının üstün yeteneklilik tanısı, cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, velinin mesleği ve öğrenim durumu değişkenleri açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada genel tarama modellerinden betimsel araştırma modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında 6., 7. ve 8. sınıfa devam eden 84’ü üstün yetenekli öğrenci, 155’i üstün yetenekli tanısı konulmamış öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 239 öğrenci katılmıştır. Üstün yetenekli öğrencilere ilişkin veriler İç Anadolu bölgesindeki bir ilin Bilim Sanat Merkezi’nden, üstün yetenekli tanısı konulmamış öğrencilere ilişkin veriler ise aynı ilde bulunan bir ortaokuldan toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin matematik öğrenme yaklaşımları, “Matematik Öğrenme Yaklaşımları Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular incelendiğinde, üstün yetenekli ve normal öğrenciler arasında derinlemesine öğrenme yaklaşımında üstün yetenekliler lehine anlamlı bir farklılaşma gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca üstün yetenekli öğrenciler arasında derinlemesine ve stratejik öğrenme alt boyutlarında kız öğrenciler lehine anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmuştur. The goal of this paper is to examine the education-growth nexus for 5 middle-income countries (Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey) using schooling rate as the indicator of education over the period 1987-2015. The paper first performs cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity tests and then employs the bootstrap panel Granger causality test developed by Konya (2006). According to the findings, while there is unidirectional causality from schooling rate to GDP in Thailand, there is unidirectional causality from GDP to schooling rate in South Africa. The findings of the paper indicate that schooling rate is not a good proxy for human capital. Theoretical and policy implications are discussed in the conclusion part.

Bu araştırmada, Lin ve Williams (2015) tarafından geliştirilen Öğretmen Adaylarının Entegre FeTeMM Öğretimi Yönelim Ölçeği Türkçe formunun geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması yapılarak sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının bu konuya ilişin görüşlerini belirlemeye yönelik bir ölçme aracı elde etmek amaçlanmıştır. 253 sınıf öğretmeni adayından toplanan verilere Açımlayıcı ve Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, Türkçe’ye uyarlanan ölçeğin özgün halinden farklı olarak beş faktörlü bir yapı oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir. Özgün ölçekte davranış yönelimi ve algılanan davranış kontrolü maddelerinin aynı faktör altında birleştiği görülmüştür. Diğer alt boyutların ise özgün ölçekteki yapıyı koruduğu tespit edilmiştir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda oluşan yapının toplanan verilere uyum gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur. Ölçeğin bütünü için Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayısı .94 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Uyarlanan ölçeğin Türkçe formu 31 maddeden oluşmaktadır ve 7’li Likert tipindedir. Alt faktörlerin sırasıyla, bilgi (α=.93), değer (α=.86), tutum (α=.87), sübjektif ölçüt (α=.69), algılanan davranış kontrolü ve davranış yönelimi (α=.86) olmak üzere beş boyuttan oluştuğu belirlenmiştir. Geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması yapılan uyarlana ölçeğin Türkçe formunun sınıf öğretmeni adaylarında kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

This paper aims at examining the relationship between average years of total schooling and GDP per capita for six middle-income countries over the period 1950-2010. To this end, the paper employs panel FMOLS and panel DOLS estimators and panel Granger causality test based on vector error correction model. According to the output from estimations, GDP per capita is positively related to average years of total schooling and there is a bidirectional causality between variables. In conclusion, the paper argues that average years of schooling of people should be increased to struggle with the middle-income trap.Keywords. Bu çalışmada sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının geometrik cisimlere ilişkin bilgi düzeyinin belirlenmesi, geometrik cisimlerle ilgili problemleri çözme düzeyleri ve geometrik cisimlere yönelik tutumlarının incelenmesi ile bu değişkenler arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışma deneysel olmayan araştırma grubuna girmektedir. Çalışmanın katılımcılarını 250 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilmiş olan geometrik cisimlere ilişkin bilgi düzeyi testi (GCİBDT), geometrik cisim problem çözme testi (GCPÇT) ve geometrik cisimlere yönelik tutum ölçeği (GCYTÖ) kullanılmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistikler ve korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarında sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının orta düzeyde tutuma sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının geometrik cisimlere ilişkin bilgi düzeyi ve problem çözme düzeylerine bakıldığında ise her ikisinin de düşük düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte bilgi düzeyinin problem çözümünde etkili olduğu, tutumun ise bilgi düzeyini arttırmada etkili olduğu elde edilen sonuçlar arasındadır. Buna ek olarak, tutum ile geometrik cisimlere ilişkin bilgi düzeyi arasında ve geometrik cisimlere ilişkin bilgi düzeyi ile problem çözme düzeyi arasında korelasyonel olarak anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur., This study aims to determinethe knowledge level of class teacher candidates on geometrical objects, toanalyze their problem solving skills and attitudes in regard to geometricalobjects, and, as well ,to identify the relationship between these variables.This study is included inanon-empirical studies group. The participants of thestudy consist of 250 teacher candidates. The Knowledge Level Test in Regard toGeometrical Objects, Geometrical Object Problem Solving Test, and AttitudeScale towards Geometrical Objects, which were developed by the researchers,have been used in the study as data collection tools. In the analyses of thedata, Descriptive Statistics and Correlation Analysis have been used. The studyconcludes that that the class teacher candidates have a medium-level attitude.Furthermore, it is found that they have low-level geometrical object knowledgeand problem solving skills. Besides, the fact that the level of knowledge isinfluential in problem solving and that the attitude is influential in increasingthe level of knowledge are also among the findings of the study. Moreover, thisstudy explores significant correlational relationships between the knowledgelevel on geometrical objects and the attitudes and between the knowledge level forgeometrical objects and the problem solving level.
