PURPOSE OF THE STUDY In this study, we aimed to evaluate acromiohumeral distance (AHD) and supraspinatus tendon (ST) thickness measurements and their relationship with pain and function in ST pathologies. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 111 patients and 25 healthy controls (HC). Patients were divided into 3 groups according to their diagnosis: non-tear tendinopathy (NTT), partial thickness tear (PTT), and full thickness tear (FTT). The AHD and ST thickness of the participants were measured with ultrasound. The pain and functional status of the patients were evaluated with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), The QuickDASH shortened version of the DASH Outcome Measure – Disabilities of the Arm Shoulder and Hand (QDASH), and Simple Shoulder Test (SST). RESULTS The AHD value was significantly higher in the NTT group (p=0.000). The AHD value was significantly lower in the FTT group (p=0.000). ST thickness value was significantly lower in the PTT group compared to the NTT group (p=0.000). There was a positive correlation between ST thickness and BMI (r=0.553,p<0.01). There was a negative correlation between ST thickness and SST and a positive correlation between ST thickness (r=-0.223,p<0.05) and QDASH (r=0.276,p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS We found that AHD and SST thicknesses significantly differed in the NTT, PTT, FTT, and HC groups. This difference may be important for diagnosis. In addition, the effect of obesity on ST thickness and the relationship between ST thickness and functional scores may be considered. Weight control may be effective at this point. Existential loneliness, a primary and inevitable condition of human existence as the only certain thing is death, was described as intolerable emptiness, sadness, and longing due to the awareness of one&apos;s fundemental separtenes as a human being. The Existential Loneliness Questionnaire (ELQ) was particularly developed to assess existential loneliness. The objective of the current study was to examine psychometric reliability and validity of the ELQ in Turkish samples. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, two items were deleted, and the remaining 20 items formed the three factors of ELQ, loneliness in social ties, loneliness in close relationships, and finding meaning in life. Twenty-item Turkish ELQ appeared to be a reliable and valid measure of existential loneliness. The 3-factor structure of ELQ obtained through principle component analysis was also partially supported by multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) indicating that ELQ is an aggregate measure. Further research with a larger community sample is needed in order to demonstrate the generalizability of the current findings to other samples.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the maternal and fetal serum M-30, M-65 and IL6 levels in preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in both maternal and cord blood. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Women with preeclampsia (n=30), GDM (n=30), and uncomplicated pregnancy (n=28) were evaluated in a cross-sectional study. After clamping during delivery, the serum M-30, M-65, and IL-6 levels were measured in both maternal venous blood and cord blood. RESULTS: The serum M-30, M-65, and IL-6 levels were significantly higher in preeclampsia and GDM patients’ maternal blood and cord blood samples compared to the control group. In the preeclampsia group, M-65 was significantly higher in cord blood compared with the level in maternal serum, but there was no significant difference between the GDM and control groups. The control group’s IL-6 level in cord blood was statistically significantly lower than the other groups. Although the M-30 value in both maternal and cord blood was statistically lower in the control group than in the GDM group, there was no significant difference between the two groups when compared to the preeclampsia group. CONCLUSIONS: M-30 and M-65 molecules appear to have the potential to serve as biochemical markers in placental diseases, particularly preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. Hyacinthella micrantha (BOISS.) Chouard with their attractive flowers is one of the important endemic and endangered species of Turkey. We aimed to improve a standard in vitro multiplication protocol using basal scales for bulblet production and conservation of the species. Bulb scales of the species collected from natural habitat were cultured in the different basal Murashige and Skoog (MS), Orchimax and Lindeman Orchid Medium embryonic callus induction medium. Then, they were transferred to MS, Orchimax and Lindeman Orchid Medium basal bulblet induction medium supplemented with cytokinins (1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 mg/l N6-benzylamino-purine (BAP), Zeatin and 2-isopentyladenine (2-iP) at 16 °C. After ten months of culture initiation, high frequency bulblet regeneration was developed using bulb scales on different basal media containing different concentrations of cytokinintypes. The highest ratio of bulb scales forming shoot/bulblets per explant (87%) and bulblets per explants (5.60) were induced on a Orchimax media supplemented with 8 mg/L Zeatin. MS and Orchimax medium gave the best result in terms of embryonic calli formation and in vitro bulblet production compared to Lindeman Orchid medium. 2,4-D, BAP and Zeatin were more effective than2-iPfor in vitro bulblet production. Also, regenerated bulblets subjected to pre-cold treatments for 3 months at 4-6 °C resulted in increasing of new mini bulblets (approximately 15%). Background micro RNAs (mi RNAs) are single-stranded, noncoding RNA molecules. Given the vast regulatory potential of mi RNAs and their often tissue-specific and disease-specific expression patterns, mi RNAs are being assessed as possible biomarkers to aid diagnosis and prediction of different types and stages of cancers, including skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma ( BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma ( SCC) are the most common forms of nonmelanoma skin cancer ( NMSC). BCC originates from the basal layer of the epidermis, while SCC arises from epidermal keratinocytes or from the dermal appendages. Although NMSCs are currently the most common types of malignancies, both BCC and SCC have a better than 95% cure rate if detected early. Aim To identify plasma mi RNAs suitable for early detection of NMSC. Methods Expression profiles of 741 mi RNAs were evaluated using high-throughput real-time quantitative PCR from plasma samples in 42 patients with NMSC and 282 healthy controls ( HCs). Results Our results demonstrated that in patients with NMSC, compared with HCs, expression levels of miR-30e-3p, miR-145-5p, miR-186-5p and miR-875-5p were significantly ( P < 0.05) upregulated, while those of miR-19a-3p, miR-25-3p, miR-30a-5p, miR-451 and miR-576-3p were significantly downregulated. Conclusion Our study suggests that the mi RNAs with significant changes in expression (miR-19a-3p, miR-25-3p, miR-30a-5p, miR-145-5p and miR-186-5p) could serve as novel noninvasive biomarkers for detection of NMSC. Objective: The study aimed to determine the level of anemia in pregnant women in the first trimester and in the preconception period by conducting nationwide research., Methods: The study was designed as retrospective, cross-sectional, and multicenter research. A total of 17 centers from 13 provinces were included in the study. The study was conducted with the participation of two groups of patients who applied to the obstetrics polyclinic between 1 January 2023 and 1 July 2023, who were in the first trimester of pregnancy and who were in the preconception period planning pregnancy., Results: In total 4,265 women were included in the study. Of these women, 3,884 (91%) were in the first trimester of their pregnancy and 381 (9%) were in the preconception period. Anemia was detected in 24.1% (n=1030) of the patients. Of these patients, 20.6% (n=877) were pregnant women in the first trimester and 3.6% (n=153) were in the preconception period. A statistically significant and positive relationship was found between anemia and meat consumption frequency, educational status, and socioeconomic status of the patients (p=0.000, p=0.000, p=0.000). In addition, a statistically significant and negative correlation was determined between anemia and the number of pregnancies and the parity number (p=0.001, p=0.000) in both groups., Conclusion: Anemia is a public health problem. Anemia has been determined to be an important problem both in the preconception period and early periods of pregnancy. The emission of artificial light at night (ALAN) is rapidly increasing worldwide. Yet, evidence for its detrimental effects on various species is accumulating. While the effects of ALAN on phenotypic traits have been widely investigated, effects on the molecular level are less well understood. Here we aimed to integrate the effects of ALAN at the transcriptomic and the phenotypic level. We tested these effects on Chironomus riparius, a multivoltine, holometabolous midge with high ecological relevance for which genomic resources are available. We performed life-cycle experiments in which we exposed midges to constant light and control conditions for one generation. We observed reduced fertility under ALAN from which we predicted the population size to decline to 1% after 200 days. The transcriptomic analysis revealed expression changes of genes related to circadian rhythmicity, moulting, catabolism and oxidative stress. From the transcriptomic analysis we hypothesised that under ALAN, oxidative stress is increased, and that moulting begins earlier. Background: This study aimed to retrospectively examine the prehospital and emergency department processes of burn cases to evaluate process effectiveness, establish regional data, and identify factors affecting mortality in burn patients., Methods: The study included 784 burn cases treated by Ankara 112 Emergency Health Services and transferred to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Emergency Department between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023. Demographic data, burn characteristics, response times of 112 emergency health services, and patient outcomes were retrospectively analyzed., Results: The mean age of the patients included in the study was 23.4+-20.7 years, with 36.7% being female. The most common type of burn was hot liquid burns (49.9%) and 73.7% of cases involved second-degree burns. The overall mortality rate was 5%. Logistic regression analysis identified advanced age (odds ratio [OR]: 1.02), presence of inhalation burns (OR: 3.33), and burn percentage as independent risk factors for mortality. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that age >44 years (38.5% sensitivity, 83.8% specificity) and burn surface >16% (89.7% sensitivity, 77.5% specificity) were predictive thresholds for mortality., Conclusion: Advanced age, extensive burn surface area, residence in rural areas, and inhalation injuries are key predictors of mortality in burn patients. Enhancing prehospital emergency services, implementing community education programs, and adopting a multidisciplinary approach are critical for preventing and effectively managing burn injuries.

Introduction and Hypothesis: Coital incontinence (CI) is an important problem that negatively affects women's quality of life and is often underreported owing to embarrassment, indicating the importance of its assessment with validated questionnaires. The aim of this study was to validate the Turkish-translated version of the International Female Coital Incontinence Questionnaire (IFCI-Q) for the objective evaluation of women with CI in Turkish-speaking populations., Methods: Ninety women with CI filled out the Turkish-translated version of IFCI-Q. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), Cronbach's alpha, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were evaluated for the construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability, respectively. Known group validity, which is the ability of the scale to reveal the expected difference according to patients' demographics and PISQ-12 scores, was evaluated., Results: The construct validity was confirmed after excluding the first and third items of the questionnaire (CFI 0.966, TLI 0.944). The first item was excluded from the CFA as all women who completed the IFCI-Q had CI and therefore answered this item questioning the existence of CI as "yes." The third item was eliminated because its factor loading was below 0.20. Cronbach's alpha value for the scale was 0.67. ICC was calculated as 0.97 (0.95-0.98; p < 0.001), indicating a strong positive agreement between the test scores at two time points 2 weeks apart., Conclusions: The Turkish version of IFCI-Q seems to be a reliable, consistent, and valid instrument in the screening and assessment of CI in a gynecology outpatient clinic-based cohort of Turkish-speaking women., Competing Interests: Declarations. In vitro maturation (IVM) is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART) applied to obtain mature oocytes in culture. Decline in IVM success rates by age has led consideration of novel approaches based on cellular dynamics. Our aim was to achieve proteostasis in old bovine oocytes from 13 to 16-year-old bovine with a lower potential for fertilization. Lysosomal activation was achieved through increasing concentrations of proton pump activators PIP2 (0.1, 0.5, 1, and 5 μM), PMA (0.1, 1, 10, and 50 μM), and DOG (0.1, 1, 10, and 50 μM) at 6, 12, 18, and 24 h of IVM in old bovine oocytes. Morphological analysis was performed and IVM rates were determined. DQ-Red BSA was applied to live oocytes to determine proteolytic activation while lysosome density was determined by Lysotracker probe. Protein carbonylation was detected through oxyblot analysis. Polar body extrusion (PBE), through which a haploid nonfunctional polar body is released in the perivitelline space after completion of the first meiotic division, was observed in PIP2-0.1 μM, -0.5μM-6h; PIP2-5μM-12h; PMA-0.1μM-18h; PIP2-0.1μM, -0.5μM-24h groups. Oocyte diameter was the highest in DOG-1μM-6h, PMA-0.1μM-12h, PIP2-1μM-18h, and PIP2-0.5μM-24h groups. Morphological scores of oocytes were higher in young and old control groups. PIP2, PMA, and DOG affected oocyte quality positively after 6 h of IVM yielding in oocyte scores similar to the control group oocytes. However, they had a negative impact on the oocyte scores in longer periods of IVM, except for lower doses PMA (0.1 and 1 μM) at 12 h and PIP2 (0.5 μM) and PMA (0.1 μM) at 18 h, which were able to maintain the scores relatively closer to the control oocytes. Proteolytic activation was achieved in all groups at 6 h of culture. At all other time points PIP2 and PMA groups showed a better response to proteolytic activation. Lysosome density was increased in PIP2-5μM-6h; PIP2-0.1μM, -1μM-12h; PIP2-1μM, -5μM-18h as well as PMA-0.1μM-6h; PMA-1μM, -10μM-12h; PMA-1μM-18h; DOG-50μM-6h and DOG-0.1μM-12h. Protein carbonylation was the lowest in PIP2-0.1 μM groups at 12, 18, and 24 h. Ethanol sclerotherapy (EST) has gained attention as a minimally invasive treatment option for ovarian endometriomas, particularly in infertile women with endometrioma undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Endometriomas are associated with decreased ovarian reserve and impaired fertility outcomes, and traditional surgical approaches, such as cystectomy, often lead to further reductions in ovarian reserve. Ethanol sclerotherapy offers a potential alternative that preserves ovarian function while effectively managing endometriomas. This review examines the safety, efficacy, and impact of EST on ovarian reserve, IVF outcomes, and recurrence rates. Comparative studies suggest that pregnancy rates following EST are similar to or better than those after cystectomy, with the added benefit of more oocytes retrieved, which may lead to higher cumulative live birth rates. Despite these promising results, challenges such as recurrence and complications, particularly with prolonged ethanol exposure, remain. The use of transvaginal versus laparoscopic approaches and optimal ethanol exposure protocols are areas of ongoing research. The need for further large-scale, prospective studies is highlighted to refine the EST protocol and better understand the long-term outcomes. Sclerotherapy presents a feasible option for preserving fertility in women with endometriomas, with positive implications for IVF success and ovarian reserve preservation.

This study aims to determine the bioequivalence of the reference preparation and the test preparation containing eltrombopag when both were given during the COVID-19 pandemic while fasting. Participants in the research were healthy male Caucasian subjects. One film-coated tablet of the test preparation or one film tablet of the reference preparation, equivalent to 75 mg of eltrombopag, was given to the participants in a randomized order throughout each treatment session. At pre determined blood sampling points, blood samples were taken to determine the pharmacokinetics of eltrombopag. Eltrombopag concentrations in the samples were determined using an LC-MS/MS technique verified using ESI(-). The study results were used to calculate the rate (the maximum plasma concentration, or C max ) and extent (area under the concentration-time curve of plasma, or AUC (0-72) and AUC (0-t) of eltrombopag absorption from the test preparation and reference preparation. The 90% confidence intervals (CI) of the ln-transformed AUC (0-72) , AUC (0-t) , and C max of eltrombopag met the bioequivalence requirements of 80.00-125.00%.
