Pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment may pose a potential to be an alternative to chemical use for seed surface disinfection and seed vigour improvement. In order to test effectiveness of PEF treatment, a new pilot-scale PEF treatment unit was designed and used to treat wheat grains with the energy range of 1.07-17.28 J. Compared to the control samples, all PEF treatments significantly increased germination and seedling rates by 10 and 28%, respectively. Electrical conductivity was significantly affected by the delayed measurement time rather than PEF treatment. PEF-treated seed samples had significantly higher tolerance to cold and salt stresses. Endogenous microflora of total aerobic mesophilic bacteria and total mold and yeast were significantly reduced by the applied energy. Salt stress on day 8 (100 mM NaCI) exhibited the highest predictive power of 98.43% in modelling studies. The multi-objective optimization of the 19 responses pointed to 161.8 Hz, 6.1 J, and 19.5 s as the optimal settings (D = 0.52). It was concluded that PEF processing of the wheat seeds improved vigor, promote cold and salt stress tolerance, and inactivated surface microflora.

Seed processing technologies are essential for seed safety and functionality through protection of physicochemical quality, pathogen inactivation, aflatoxin detoxification and alleviation of mutagenicity. Design of a pilot-scale unit of pulsed electric fields (PEF) to treat sesame seeds with respect to quality parameters,Aspergillus parasiticusinactivation and aflatoxin reduction as well as alleviation of aflatoxin mutagenicity were prompted in this study. PEF energy ranged from 0.97 to 17.28 J achieved maximum reductions of peroxide value and acidity number of 67.4 and 85.7%, respectively, and did not change colorL*,a*,b* and hue values. A 60% reduction ofA. parasiticuscounts occurred at the maximum PEF energy. Aflatoxins G1, G2, B1, and B2 contents decreased by 94.7, 92.7, 86.9, and 98.7%, respectively. Except for the samples treated by 2.16 J with 100 mu g/plate and by 6.80 J with 10 mu g/plate, PEF treatment provided elimination of aflatoxin mutagenity. It is concluded that PEF treatment can be used to treat sesame seeds with preservation of physicochemical properties, inactivation ofA. parasiticusand decomposition of aflatoxins with reduced mutagenicity.

Nüfus artışı, sanayileşme, teknolojik gelişmeler ve kentleşmenin etkisiyle birlikte hızlı tüketim giderek artmaktadır. Artan nüfus ve değişen hayat standartları doğal kaynakların hızla tükenmesine yol açmaktadır. Nüfusun hızla artması ve kentleşme gibi etmenler, hızlı ve ekonomik barınma şekli olan toplu konutun çoğalmasına ve de kaynaklarının hızla tükenmesine sebep olmaktadır. Günümüzde özellikle İstanbul gibi nüfus yoğunluğunun fazla olduğu kentlerde yapıların çoğunluğunun konut ve toplu konut projeleri olduğu düşünülürse, konut yerleşimlerinin ekolojik duyarlılıkla tasarlanması önem kazanmaktadır.Bu nedenle İstanbul ili Sancaktepe bölgesinde yer alan reklam ve pazarlamada çevresel söylemlere sahip toplu konut uygulamalarında eko yerleşim özelliklerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda seçilen dört adet toplu konut örneği tez çalışmasında belirlenen eko yerleşim kriterleri çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Bu tez çalışması sonucunda elde edilen bilgilerle çevresel kaynaklara duyarlı, enerjinin akılcı bir yaklaşımla kullanıldığı, yapı tasarımlarının gerçekleştirilmesinde tasarımcılara ekolojik yapı yapma duyarlılığına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.Çalışma altı ana başlıktan oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde problem belirlenmiş ve tezin amaç, kapsam ve yöntemi hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde toplu konutlarla ilgili bilgilere verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ekolojik mimarlık ve eko yerleşimlerle ilgili genel tanımlarla, ilgili yönetmelikler ve sertifika sistemleriyle ilgili bilgi verilmiş, dünyada ve Türkiye'de bazı eko yerleşim örneklerinden bahsedilmiştir. Dördüncü bölümde konu kapsamında belirlenen eko yerleşim kriterleri anlatılmıştır. Beşinci bölümde seçilen örnekler eko yerleşim kriterlerine göre incelenmiştir. Rapid consumption is increasing with the effect of population growth, industrialization, technological developments and urbanization. Increasing population and changing living standards lead to rapid depletion of natural resources. Factors such as the rapid increase in population and urbanization lead to the proliferation of mass housing which is a fast and economic form of housing and the rapid depletion of its resources. Considering that most of the buildings are residential and mass housing projects, especially in cities with high population density such as Istanbul, it is important to design housing settlements with ecological sensitivity.For this reason, it is aimed to investigate the eco settlement characteristics of mass housing applications with environmental discourses in advertising and marketing in Sancaktepe region of Istanbul. In this context, four selected housing units were examined within the framework of eco settlement criteria determined in the thesis. It is thought that with the information obtained as a result of this thesis, energy is used with a rational approach, which is sensitive to environmental resources and will contribute to the sensitivity of designers to make ecological structures in the realization of building designs.The study consists of six main topics. In the first chapter, the problem is determined and information about the aim, scope and method of the thesis is given. In the second section, information is given about public housing. With general definitions of ecological architecture and eco settlement in the third chapter, the information on related regulations and certification system in the world and in Turkey are mentioned some examples of eco-settlements. In the fourth chapter, the eco settlement criteria selected within the scope of the subject are mentioned. In the fourth chapter, the eco settlement criteria determined within the scope of the subject are explained. In the last chapter, evaluations were made according to the results of the examination. Bu çalışmamızda, 1880 ile 1896 yılları arasında faaliyette bulunan edip ve şairlerimizden, eskiler ile batıcılar arasında köprü görevi görüp Ara Nesil edebiyatı olarak adlandırılan dönemin edebî yazıları tespit edilmiştir. Bu dönem şahıslarının edebî yazılarından yola çıkarak dönemin siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel alandaki olaylara bakış açılarını vermeye çalıştık.Toplam altmış dokuz edebî makale üzerinde yaptığımız bu çalışma, `Önsöz` ve `Giriş` hariç iki bölümden oluşur. `Giriş` bölümünde Ara Nesil döneminin ana çizgilerini ve bu dönemin genel özelliklerini vermeye çalıştık. Birinci bölümde `Seçilmiş Metinler` başlığı altında Osmanlı Türkçesinden Latin harflerine çevirdiğimiz edebî makaleleri konularına göre tasniflemeyi hedefledik. Elde ettiğimiz malzemeler ışığında o dönemin yazarları arasındaki ilişkiyi yansıtmaya çalıştık. İkinci bölümde ise dönemin yazar kadrosunun yazılarının bulunduğu on bir dergiyi inceleyerek bu dönemin edebî makalelerini tasniflemeye çalıştık. Bu bölümde yazarların hangi dergilerde kaç tane edebî yazılarının yer aldığını ve hangi konular ile ilgili olduğunu tablolar oluşturarak ortaya koymayı amaçladık.Sonuç bölümünde ise edebî makalelerden elde ettiğimiz bilgiler ışığında Ara Nesil edebiyatı şahıslarının, Tanzimat ile Servet-i Funûn dönemleri arasında nasıl bir köprü görevi üstlendiklerini ve bu görevi sosyal hayatlarına nasıl yansıttıklarını genel olarak vermeye çalıştık. In this work, of the poets who were conducting literary activities between 1880 and 1900, literary writings of the period called the Ara Nesil Literature, which served as a bridge between the Ancient and theWitches, have been identified. By looking at the seliterary texts, we have been given an over view of the events of the period in the political, socialand culturalfield.Our work, which was fulfilled on sixty-nine literary articles, consists of two part swith the exception of `preface and introduction.` In the `Introduction` section, we tried to give the main lines of the Ara Nesil period and the general features of this period. In the first chapter, we aimed to classify the literary Works which we translated from Ottoman Turkish to Latin letters under the heading of `SelectedTexts`.In the light of the materials we obtained, we tried to reflect the relationship between the authors of that period. In the second chapter, we tried to classify the literary articles of this period by examining eleven periodicals where the writers of the period were written. Here, we tried to tabulate how many literary texts the authors had and what subjects were involved.In the conclusion section, in the light of the information we have obtained from literary works, we have tried to give a collective way of how they acted as a bridge between Tanzimat and Servet-i Funûn and how they reflected this social life. 203

Chemicals used for seed treatments help to increase the agricultural production by preventing pests and pathogens but also cause environmental and health problems. Thus, environmentally-friendly technologies need to be developed for a seed treatment that inactivates surface microflora and improves seed vigor. One such pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment applied to cucumber seeds in the range of 1.07-17.28 Joule (J) significantly enhanced a mean germination rate (MGR) by up to 9%, a normal seedling rate by 25.73%, and a resistance to 100 and 200 mM salt stresses by 96% and 91.67%, respectively, with a stronger and faster growth of roots and seedlings. PEF treatment provided 3.34 and 3.22 log-reductions in the surface microflora of total mold and yeast and total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, respectively. The electrical conductivity (EC) values of the control samples increased over time, from 4 to 24 h. Those of the PEF-treated samples after 4, 12, and 24th hours were also more affected by the measurement time not by the PEF treatment. The joint optimization of 18 responses based on the best-fit Gaussian process model pointed to 19.78 s and 17.28 J as the optimal settings. The PEF treatment appeared to improve seed germination ability and stress resistance with the adequate inactivation of surface microflora.
