AbstractThe objective of this paper is to explore the relationship between business information, business networking, access to finance and financial performance of social enterprises. It broadens on theoretical threads from the perspective of resource-based view theory and signalling theory. Hypotheses are tested to assess the possible effect of business information, business networking, access to finance as well as financial performance of social enterprises. A cross-sectional survey was conducted by using the standardized questionnaire to collect primary data from a total of 384 owners/directors of social enterprises. Simple random sampling method was applied to select social enterprises functioning in the country. A Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling was applied to examine the data. This study found a positive and significant direct relationship between business information, access to finance, and business networking on financial performance of the social enterprises in Pakistan. The results supported the moderation effect of access to finance on business information and financial performance whereas, access to finance does not have a significant moderation impact between business networking and financial performance. Therefore, this study recommends that social enterprises in Pakistan should provide great emphasis on business networking and business information to introduce financially creative solutions for the societal problems, which are essential for overall wellbeing of different stakeholders of the social enterprises.

Financial literacy (FL) is an important ability needed by any individual to understand, evaluate, and communicate business and financial information. Having accurate financial information increases one's competency to be financial literate. It is regarded as a common and basic life skill that libraries can develop for their users. Using purposive sampling, this study ponders into the status and challenges of eight public city libraries in the Philippines in terms of providing FL education and how they can potentially share a role in developing the economy of a country. Public libraries' readiness to serve their users can be observed in terms of their collection, web presence, services, and programs. The level of financial knowledge and competencies of city librarians were also assessed. A look into the available professional development programs for public librarians in business and finance librarianship was reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the current state and prospects for the use of innovative technologies for business information management to optimize business processes. The authors analyzed, systematized and generalized scientific works of many scholars, who consider the components of business process management, innovative methods of optimizing business management, which a significant number of companies are still forced to resort to. For a successful optimization, the head of the company needs to find a competent specialist who is familiar with all the complexities of optimization, who is directly participating in the process and personally controls all the actions of the employees involved. Innovative technologies make a fundamental contribution to the transformation of business process structures, business process changes, and modeling according to environmental requirements. Among them, in order to optimize business processes, special attention is paid to the technology of benchmarking the business processes. Benchmarking is an extremely useful tool, especially when it is necessary to review the internal performance of the company and identify new priorities. It is worth remembering that foreign investment also plays an important role in the optimization system. It is determined that the development of innovative technologies and the aggravation of competition require enterprises to effectively manage their processes, provide high-quality products or services and meet the needs of customers. The use of business process management systems can help companies achieve higher efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, improve product or service quality, and improve customer satisfaction. It is worth understanding that the use of innovative technologies should be synchronized with the strategic planning and budget system of the enterprise. It is necessary to create an effective mechanism for managing business processes, taking into account the possibilities and limitations of resources, so that the enterprise can reach a new level of quality. In the future, it is necessary to consider the issue of investment support for the introduction of innovative technologies in the management of business processes of the enterprise.

The information technology infrastructure library (ITIL) standard describes processes that should be implemented in Information Technology (IT) departments for proper operations management, which includes human resources management, economic management, and strategic management, among others. This should be especially considered in the business management of industries with no relation to information technologies (IT), such as tourism and hospitality companies. This work aims to present a method to establish the order of adoption of the IT management processes in companies that belong to the tourism industry. We conducted a survey to obtain the necessary data and developed a methodology that is based on an optimization procedure. This procedure generates the optimal sequence of IT tasks to adopt in a generic small company in the tourism industry. The methodology was then applied to a representative tourism company. Through the sequence obtained, it is shown that it is necessary to implement operative processes, and subsequently, strategic processes. A comparative study was developed to find the differences with other authors' proposals. The most important result we found was the possibility of efficient use of organizations' information to build an optimized list of IT procedures to improve their administration. The obtained list of processes is specific for each organization, and not dependent on the solutions offered by other authors who proposed a general or underoptimal list of processes. One of the key elements to consider in business management is the management of IT (Information Technology) departments by implementing processes as described in the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) standard. This is particularly important in industries that are not directly related to ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), such as the tourism industry. In this paper, we present a methodology to sequence the implementation of the ITIL processes in any company to support its development. The methodology is based on an optimization algorithm and the information extracted from a survey. The optimal sequence is built from this information and from the information of the restrictions imposed by the company that implements the ITIL processes. We applied the methodology to a company in the tourism industry. The sequence obtained shows the need to implement operative processes (initial positions in the sequence), and afterwards strategic processes (final positions in the sequence). A comparison with other authors' proposals shows differences in the order of processes proposed by this methodology. The main conclusion is that it is possible to use the information of companies to efficiently generate an optimal sequence of ITIL processes which enhances their management; this sequence is unique for every company that wants to implement ITIL in the tourism industry, and it is independent from the proposals of other authors who designed generic/non-optimal sequences. - Abstract

The study investigated public library as a source of business information for small-scale business enterprises in Nigeria. Six states in the Southwest region of Nigeria were used for the study, while purposive sampling was used to select forty small-scale businesses from each of the states, which brought the population of the study to 240. As a survey research, a questionnaire was used for data collection. The findings of the study revealed that information on sources of business funding was the major information need of small-scale businesses, while books were the most available information sources in the public library. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others, that government should provide more funding to support small-scale businesses; and that public libraries should acquire more information sources particularly those on sources of business funding, to complement available ones. The study contributes to literature and its empirical data will be useful to policymakers on how to reposition public libraries for effective provision of business information to small-scale business people. Independent business owners often prefer informal information sources to formal ones such as library collections. Part of these preferences is rational because contextual and application‐oriented information is usually available from informal sources, which are theoretically the best matches for this kind of information. This suggests that, in addition to outreach strategies, efforts to integrate informal sources of business‐relevant information can improve public libraries' ability to support independent business owners' information needs. Through interviews with business information providers and users, we explore the multi‐dimensional space of information needs in independent businesses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Was sind typische Fragen? Welche Informationsquellen werden genutzt? Wie hat sich die Wirtschaftsrecherche in den letzten Jahrzehnten verändert? Was sind aktuelle Entwicklungen?

Open business organizations, where information flows, is shared, and exchanged, are more prepared to adapt and survive chaos, uncertainty, and entropy, so they will be more predisposed to change management. The aim of this study is to analyze research trends at the international level on business information–entropy correlation in the accounting process of organizations. Mathematical and statistical techniques were applied to 980 articles during the period 1974–2020, obtaining results on the scientific productivity of the driving agents of this topic: authors, research institutions, countries/territories, and journals. Five lines of research were identified during the period analyzed, which mainly study information theory, maximum entropy, information entropy, decision-making, and enthalpy. Future research should focus on analyzing the evolution of this topic, which forms new thematic axes related to bitcoin market efficiency, business hierarchy information, business model evaluation systems, catastrophic economic collapse, corporate diversification, CSR reports affecting accounting conservatism, economic income accounting, and information loss. Currently, the research presents an upward trend, which allows a growing interest in the subject to be deduced in the academic and scientific community worldwide.

19. Legal regulation of trade secrets under the legislation of Ukraine and the EU
- Abstract
Today, the legislation of Ukraine on trade secrets is not systematized and has significant gaps. Relations regarding trade secrets are regulated by the several legal acts relating to various branches of law, and determine only the general principles of legal regulation of such relations. Detection of discrepancies in the legislation of Ukraine and the EU means that the legal protection of trade secrets in Ukraine is uneven and fragmentary, and therefore insufficient. The development of cross-border economic relations between economic entities of Ukraine and the EU requires a unified approach to solving the issue of protecting trade secrets, the absence of which requires studying these issues and developing practical recommendations aimed at approaching the legalregimes of protecting trade secrets in Ukraine and the EU.This article contains the analysis of the provisions of the legislation of Ukraine on the protection of trade secrets, international legal acts in this field and Directive (EU) 2016/943 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2016 on the protectionof undisclosed know-how and business information (trade secrets) against their unlawful acquisition, use and disclosure. As a result of the analysis, it was established that: in Ukraine, there is no special legislation on the protection of trade secrets; the concept of trade secret in Ukraine fully corresponds to the concept of a trade secret it the Directive (EU) 2016/943, as well as to the concept of an undisclosed information in the TRIPS Agreement. At the same time, the concept of trade secret in Ukraine needs to be clarified regarding one of the essential signs of trade secret. In addition, in the legislation of Ukraine there is no single approach to the use of the concept of knowhow, as well as regarding the assignment of know-how to IP. The legislation of Ukraine requires the implementation of the provisions of European legislation on the legal regulation of trade secrets, namely: not c

INFORMATION resources management - Abstract
Consolidate gains, implement more change is the seventh step of John P. Kotter's Eight Step Process for Leading Change. Sustaining acceleration seems an appropriate theme for the 2021 survey following the 2020/21 health crisis which was the catalyst for massive change across almost all organisations. It created a sense of urgency, with the leaders reporting many quick wins in the new operating environment in the 2020 survey. The opportunity now is to maintain their momentum by consolidating their current gains and accelerating change, driving their business towards the new normal. Part II captures the leaders' reflections on a range of topics that are shaping their operations including the technology and content trends, vendor engagement, client engagement as well as summarising their future priorities. The main aim of this study is to investigate the provision and use of industrial information in Saudi Arabia, to compare it with corresponding patterns in the UK, and to examine what conclusions follow from this comparison for the information infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. To achieve this aim four main objectives have been established: (1) to determine what major information services are available to Saudi and British industry; (2) to examine the level of service and relevance of the information provided; (3) to investigate how aware industries are of information services and to what extent they use them; (4) to look for differences in the use of information services as a function of the type of firm concerned. The major focus of the work is on provision and use of this information in Saudi Arabia. It is not intended as a comprehensive overview of all business information in the UK. The first stage of the methodology involved a questionnaire survey distributed to Saudi manufacturing firnls in the building, chemical and metals industries. For the UK, the same industries were selected, and the size and distribution of the sample surveyed were chosen so as to parallel the Saudi sample. The second stage of the methodology involved a series of interviews carried out in both Saudi Arabia and the UK with the main information providers cited by the respondents. The main findings of this study show that Saudi firms tap a greater number of government information sources than Britishfirms do, but the latter use more non-government sources. This difference reflects the stronger emphasis on information provision by the government in Saudi Arabia, as compared with government provision in the UK.

The fast development of B2B digital platforms offers many suppliers opportunities to engage their customers in new product development projects on these platforms. However, customers are often reluctant to participate in these projects due to potential risks, such as leaking critical business information and opportunism. Digital platforms further increase these risks as customers may face more uncertainties due to a lack of physical contact on these platforms. Drawing on the transaction cost analysis, we examine how platform governance mechanisms (i.e., macroculture and collective sanctions) influence customer participation in supplier NPD on B2B digital platforms. We find that both macroculture and collective sanctions can potentially facilitate customer participation on B2B digital platforms but in different ways. Specifically, macroculture tends to influence customer participation directly, especially when customers have heterogeneous needs. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) offers promising opportunities to transform the operation of industrial systems and becomes a key enabler for future industries. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely utilized for realizing intelligent IIoT applications where AI techniques require centralized data collection and processing. However, this is not always feasible in realistic scenarios due to the high scalability of modern IIoT networks and growing industrial data confidentiality. Federated Learning (FL), as an emerging collaborative AI approach, is particularly attractive for intelligent IIoT networks by coordinating multiple IIoT devices and machines to perform AI training at the network edge while helping protect user privacy. In this article, we provide a detailed overview and discussions of the emerging applications of FL in key IIoT services and applications. A case study is also provided to demonstrate the feasibility of FL in IIoT. Finally, we highlight a range of interesting open research topics that need to be addressed for the full realization of FL-IIoT in industries., Accepted at IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine

Information search, access, sharing and needs of entrepreneurs of small and medium-sized enterprises in Brazil was researched using exploratory and descriptive methods. The data was gathered by local innovation agents of the government programme LIA from entrepreneurs of 18 São Paulo Estate cities. Results suggest that there is no information sharing, that access to information is restricted to a small group of employees, and that they do not access information as often as they should, and when they do, they follow informal procedures. In addition, information is underutilized, a lot of information from customers is ignored, and information obtained from the external environment is not used to improve or innovate the business, its products, services and processes. Business processes are not recorded systhematically, making them difficult to access. So, SMEs do not have the systematized information environment that is needed to reach a high degree of innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Several countries in the Region in general and Jordan in particular are moving towards what is called “knowledge economy" and to become more linked to and integrated in global business within the context of "globalization". The main objective of this research was to document and share the experiences of the private sector especially companies in Jordan as part of their work to develop and expand their role in the knowledge-based economy. The paper discussed the contribution of libraries (libraries, information and documentation centers) in business development and the extent to which libraries are used in business management including planning, organization, human resources management and direction and control. The role of libraries in supporting research and development, protection of intellectual property and trademarks, the development of professional networks and working groups through the implicit and explicit information sources was elaborated based on previous studies. The paper attempted to identify the areas that contribute to business information or business intelligence in the success of businesses, thus building the knowledge economy. The paper utilizeddata using standardized interviews with senior executives in six companies in Jordan, including small, medium and large enterprises to understand how they use information to support businesses, identify the channels they use to access information to support policies, procedures and decision making. The paper discussed the role of knowledge management, in particular lessons learned and best practices, and leveraging experiential knowledge in business administration. Based on the analysis of data collected through the interviews, it was concluded that libraries and information centers are underutilized by the business community while implicit knowledge and social networks are more used. The paper offered a number of recommendations: libraries should promote and market their services, they should change the role they play form storage places to more proactive agents to access information, library and information sciences departments should focus on business information in teaching, research and publishing and that research on use of information for planning and decision-making should continue. In recent years, major large ports in China have realized the business informatization of rail-water intermodal transportation. However, the overall development level of intermodal transportation informatization has been restricted to a great extent due to the unbalanced development of intermodal transportation informatization in different regions, the rigid system architecture, the low degree of information sharing, and the lack of data management and analysis methods. Combined with the structure and business characteristics of intermodal transportation information systems, adopting cloud computing and Big Data technology, we propose an intermodal transportation information process with waybill as the information carrier and FPMS as the service fulcrum in this paper. Illustrated by the example of China’s container export process, this paper explores a series of key technical issues in the cloud environment, such as application management, business information sharing, and Big Data processing, at different levels of the construction of the rail water transport cloud platform, combined with its business characteristics, and makes experimental analysis on the relevant models to verify the feasibility of the reconstruction of the rail water transport cloud platform. It can provide theoretical and practical support for the development of rail water intermodal informatization in China.

The management of business information processes needs effective decision-making models. That means to involve different methods, techniques, and principles to improve competitiveness and to achieve the planned business results. In this context, the article deals with the problem of group decision-making under uncertain conditions. To cope with such problems some well-known optimization strategies of Wald, Laplace, Hurwitz, and Savage are modified to take into account the experts’ opinions with different importance when forming the final group decision. Numerical testing is based on a case study for CRM software selection. The results are discussed based on the proposed models under two different cases derived from the case study. The conducted numerical testing of the proposed models demonstrates their applicability to cope simultaneously with multiple experts’ evaluations and uncertainty conditions.

As a force contributing to social and economic development, E-Learning is fast becoming an accepted and indispensable part of the main-stream of educational systems in both developed and developing countries, with particular emphasis for the latter. This growth has been stimulated in part with the increasing use of networked computers as a medium for network-enabled transfer of skills, information, and knowledge in various areas. The traditional context of learning is experiencing a radical change. The concept of traditional education does not fit well with the new world of lifelong learning, in which the roles of instructor, students, and curriculum are changing. Rather than replacing traditional classrooms and teaching methodology, E-Learning should serve as a complementary mechanism to lifelong or remote learning.Today, Egypt has thousands of training companies and institutions giving training and educational programs, including degree, non-degree and certificate programs. The need to evaluate an E-learning system has been proved to be vital to establishments in the planning phase of their training programs. The choice is critical and quality management becomes crucial. One of the biggest E-learning projects in Egypt is the E-learning system of the ministry of education. This system is based on a well known collaboration suite named Centra. On the other hand, E-learning in the Egyptian universities/institutions is still in the very early stage. There are many theoretical and technological issues that need to be explored. Therefore, the need for a tested quality management scheme is becoming crucial.E-learning quality has been defined in terms of the design of the e-learning experience, the contextualized experience of learners, and evidence of learning outcomes. However, E-Learning course design and overall program quality are sometimes compromised in an effort to simply get something running in response to pressing demands of the consumer. Accordingly, educators and researchers have voiced concerns over the lack of appropriately rigorous evaluation studies of E-Learning programs and systems. Hence, comes the Demand-Driven Learning Model (DDLM) as a Quality Standard. The DDLM has five main components: the quality standard of "superior structure," three consumer demands (content, delivery, and service) and learner outcomes. It is important that these constructs are operationally defined to allow easy application of the DDLM by practitioners and researchers. On the other hand, Literatures have shown different best practices in the area of assessing and evaluating E-Learning quality in different contexts and in different countries. However, best practices in Egyptian context are still very limited and not mature enough to be reported. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to demonstrate the best practice of the Hybrid E-Learning model at the Regional IT Institute, as well as to evaluateInternational Journal of Internet Education http://ijie.journals.ekb.egJuly, 2021 ISSN: 1687-6482International Journal of Internet Education http://ijie.journals.ekb.egthis Hybrid model using the Demand-Driven Learning Model. It emphasizes the two E-Learning degree programs delivered by the Institute namely: the Master of Science in Business Information Technology, delivered in cooperation with Middlesex University in the UK, and the Master of Science in Human Resources Education in cooperation with University of Louisville in the USA.Building on the DDML model, the evaluation has been performed through conducting four focus groups, in which current and previous students have participated. The results showed that participants emphasized the critical importance of the blend between the two learning extremes (the traditional and the E-Learning models) particularly in the dimensions of the delivery, service and outcomes. Meanwhile, the content dimension showed no significant difference among the three models, namely; the E-learning, the traditional learning and the hybrid E-Learning model applied at RITI. The concept of Hybrid E-Learning is still not mature enough; however, presenting the best practice of the Regional IT Institute may help adding to the stream of literature in this domain, particularly in the Middle East area.

Civil aircraft customer service is the full support of the main manufacturer from the perspective of customer needs, aircraft performance, and the interests of related parties during the product life cycle. Its data model can coordinate business and data between stakeholders, and provide a framework for business information representation and operation for customer data integration. In order to enable civil aircraft customer service to improve customer satisfaction and meet the development needs of the civil aircraft industry, it is necessary to establish a complete customer service system and form a common customer service business data model. Firstly, the S-series of integrated logistic support(ILS) specifications and ISO 10303-239 PLCS are interpreted to explore the ILS business interface relevance between international specifications. Then, the tools used to establish the customer service business model and data interaction of civil aircraft are sorted out, and how to use them is explained. Finally, the system is constructed from the three levels of civil aircraft customer service requirements, indicators and activities, combined with model tools to build a civil aircraft customer service business data model based on the S-series ILS specifications. This paper provides guidance for realizing the data circulation of various business links of customer service, and provides a basis and method for ensuring the safe operation of aircraft, reducing user operating costs and promoting customer service levels.

PurposeResearchers have investigated the distinctions between founder and nonfounder chief executive officers (CEOs) for different performance variables. Researchers have also investigated the use of media as supplemental information that investors review to make decisions about initial public offering (IPO) firms. Research that investigates founders and nonfounder CEOs of IPO firms in the media is limited but growing. This paper aims to explore how founder and nonfounder CEOs' narratives are portrayed differently in business media following an IPO.Design/methodology/approachUsing insights from the narrative paradigm, 1,057 news paragraphs about CEOs from 19 matched pairs (38 firms) were content analyzed using a contrasting coding strategy.FindingsFounders and nonfounders' narratives differ in three ways. Specifically, founder CEOs are more likely to (1) have their personal background detailed in the media, (2) translate technical business information to easy-to-understand general language and (3) be quoted talking about positive information than nonfounder CEOs.Research limitations/implicationsThe results of this study show the media's role in creating narratives about management and how the experiences of founders and nonfounders are represented differently in the media. The study is limited by only investigating media articles about CEOs and not investigating the entire organizational narrative.Originality/valueThis study adds to the growing literature that investigates the role the media plays in portraying management in the media at time of IPO.

Literacy is the main prerequisite for intellectual growth and the ability to learn to generate new knowledge. This study aims to analyze the effect of business literacy on the performance of SMEs, either directly or indirectly by including the Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy (ESE) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) variables as mediation and moderation variables, respectively. The approach of this article is thought or conceptual based on intellectualization and reflects the prospects and impact of digital marketing. This study uses a critical system to analytically review digital marketing literature and relate it to research results. The data analysis technique used is descriptive. Based on the results of tracking and analysis, there has never been any previous research that examines business literacy, ESE, ERM, and SME performance in one model. The implication of social justice in the field of business literacy is through the existence of a business application system that is socialized to business people. Business information can enhance or even suppress the effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy. ERM as a planned action is a control activity, which can be perceived not as an obstacle to gaining profits, but to get the expected performance results.

This study aims to find the formulation of factors that can influence the development of business networks both locally and globally. This study used a qualitative method by reviewing 27 journals from previous researchers. The results of this study indicate that multi-actor factors are useful for understanding business networks. Ex-ante signaling and filtering factors at the contractual relationship formation stage are complementary mechanisms that enhance network performance. Agency approach, structure approach and practice approach affect the performance of the business network. Another factor that can improve the performance of a business network is clustering social audiences in a business information network. Organizational variables such as participatory architecture, organizational integration, and mechanisms play a relevant role in protecting and developing business networks. The next finding is that the management relationship factor can improve the performance of the small and medium business network. Value creation innovation includes new capabilities, technology and processes as well as partnerships for the purpose of co-creation that can reduce risk in the business network. Linkage factors and their effect on network connectivity can play a relevant role in strategic business decisions. The role of dynamic capabilities in encouraging business model innovation, especially in market-oriented small and medium enterprises, can encourage innovation in the business model of the small and medium enterprises themselves. Other factors that can affect the efficiency of a business network are intellectual agility, leadership and micro-enterprise innovation mediated through entrepreneurial leadership. The large structure in a business network can positively affect business performance through linkage mechanisms. Whereas the presence of a large number of affiliates in the first company layer of the affiliate structure causes a decrease in the effect of size on the group level performance of the business. Limited diversification at the business group level in the first corporate layer of the affiliate structure results in reduced returns in terms of risk sharing, because shareholders can reduce their investment, thus negatively impacting the overall group level performance. The role of religion and spirituality in the context of a business network greatly influences the strength of a business network.
