Although the power held by the marketing department can determine key organizational outcomes, including firm performance, this power seemingly has been decreasing. To address this apparent disconnect, the authors propose that the board of directors is a critical but overlooked antecedent of marketing department power (MDP). In particular, the authors demonstrate that directors' exposure through board service at other firms (i.e., board interlocks) affects MDP in the firms on whose boards they also serve (i.e., focal firms). A sample of 6,008 firms, spanning 2007–2021, reveals that MDP in board-interlocked firms has a positive effect on MDP in focal firms. Despite evidence that board interlock effects have diminished or even disappeared, the findings suggest the board interlock effect remains a potent antecedent of MDP—and this effect did not decrease during the observation period. Adapting the 3R (reach–richness–receptivity) framework, the authors also find that the board interlock effect increases with greater reach and richness of a focal firm's board interlock network and its executives' receptivity to information. The marketing department's decreasing power is concerning for the discipline; the robust results of this study suggest that firms need to get the board "on board" to stem this diminishing trend. Investment managers connected to plans sponsors are more likely to be hired than not-connected managers. The magnitude of the selection effect is comparable to that of prior performance. Ex post, connections do not result in higher post-hiring returns. Research on entrepreneurial networking suggests that women may be more likely than men to select cofounders based on their resources (e.g., knowledge, skills, and experience), as a means to counteract investor bias. In contrast, research on gender in networking suggests that women may be more likely than men to select cofounders based on interpersonal attraction (e.g., liking, trustworthiness, and familiarity), because it aligns with their preference for stable and harmonious relationships. In this paper, we reconcile this tension and ask: "How, when, and why do women differ from men in how they choose cofounders?" We propose that women entrepreneurs generally prioritize interpersonal attraction and de-prioritize resources because doing so aligns with their interdependent self-construal, but these relationships are mitigated when legitimacy is low, such that women entrepreneurs decrease their use of interpersonal attraction and increase their focus on resources as a means to bolster legitimacy. We find support for our framework across three studies. Our findings reconcile a key tension in the literature and highlight how interdependent self-construals enable women entrepreneurs to flexibly adjust their networking approach to cofounder selection by prioritizing interpersonal attraction when legitimacy is high and by increasing their use of resource seeking when legitimacy is low. Using a novel data set of over 3,500 public and private firms, we construct the network of executive and director connections prior to the 1929 financial market crash. We find that more connected firms have 17% higher 10-year survival rates. Consistent with a working capital channel, the results are strongest for small, private, cash-poor firms, and firms located in counties with high bank suspension rates. Moreover, connections to cash-rich firms that increase accounts receivable matter the most. We find that male participants in Harvard Business School's New Venture Competition who were randomly exposed to more venture capital (VC) investors on their panel were substantially more likely to start a VC-backed startup post-graduation, indicating that access to investors impacts fundraising independent of the quality of ideas. However, female participants experience no benefit from exposure to male or female venture capitalists (VCs), which appears related to a reduced propensity to reach out to VCs to whom they were exposed. Management literature on how interorganizational relationships influence firm performance has emphasized the importance of connections, positions, and cliques. We advance this literature by examining how network communities (membership in cohesive network structures) shape the performance of venture capital (VC) firms. We propose that community insiders affiliated with at least one network community will outperform outsiders. We also explicate the conditions under which the advantages of network community affiliations are likely to be muted. Specifically, we argue for the potential diseconomies of network community affiliations and the possibility of a substitutive relationship between network communities and institutional development. Leveraging recent advances in community-detection technology and longitudinal data on VC firms in China, we find support for our theoretical arguments. Analysis of mechanisms underlying our theoretical arguments reveals that the value of community affiliations comes from indirect connections within network communities. Brokerage in intra-organizational networks is critical to performance, but women exhibit less brokerage in their social networks and receive lower performance returns to the brokerage they exhibit than men do. We uncover a condition under which the gender gaps in network advantage are entirely negated: mobility. When women move between units of the organization, they increase their brokerage more than mobile men do. Further, such mobility eliminates the gender gap in returns to brokerage. Using a rich dataset including the personnel records, monthly performance, and email communications of thousands of employees in a large financial institution, we find support for our arguments by comparing the networks and objective performance of those who changed jobs with matched non-movers prior to and following each job change. In probing why this might be the case, we find that women movers are more likely to maintain communication ties to colleagues from their previous roles and that these persistent ties give them a discernible and gender-role-congruent explanation for connecting otherwise disconnected units and benefiting from network brokerage. Bariatric dentistry is the branch of dental medicine focused on preventive and comprehensive oral health care of overweight or obese patients. Obesity is an increasing US and international health problem and is a condition characterized by abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in the adipose tissue and is categorized by body mass index (BMI) according to the World Health Organization (WHO). With the increase of morbid obesity worldwide and the unfavorable effect on the overall health and life expectancy, it is necessary that proper accommodations are made for accessible dental care of this vulnerable population of patients. The following case report details the emergency and the subsequent elective dental treatment of a patient with a morbid obesity and demonstrates the importance of necessary equipment, a multidisciplinary approach, and broad networking communication needed to treat bariatric patients. The aim of the present case report was to bring awareness and start professional discussions on the importance of dental practitioners in the community and dental academic programs working together to assure access for primary oral health for bariatric patients. Research on entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) has tended to focus on the role that characteristics internal to the EE play in determining EE-level outcomes. Notwithstanding the insights that academics, policy-makers, and entrepreneurs have gleaned from these studies, prior research has yet to explain whether, how, and why these outcomes might also be impacted by an EE's position within the larger network of EEs. Given broad acceptance for the important role that networks play in facilitating entrepreneurship at the firm level, we contend that adopting a network-based view of EEs may also help predict and explain aggregate entrepreneurial outcomes at the EE level. Specifically, we adopt a double embeddedness lens to examine the impact of both inter-EE (i.e., structural embeddedness) and intra-EE (i.e., cultural embeddedness) factors on EE-level new venture creation. Using a longitudinal sample of regional data in the United States from 1994 to 2016, we develop and test hypotheses where the relationship between structural embeddedness and new venture creation follows an inverted "U" shape that is itself moderated by cultural embeddedness. Innovation is the result of a collective and collaborative process, especially relevant in the micro-enterprise segment. This study aims to explore the role of cooperation networks as a strategy to promote innovation in micro-enterprises in the electronic device repair sector. Based on a qualitative approach, the data of the case study (business cooperation network) were collected through semi-structured interviews in a focus group with the owner-managers of Portuguese and Spanish micro-enterprises belonging to the network studied. The results indicate that the cooperation network formed facilitates the sharing of technical knowledge, the overcoming of technological challenges and the development of competitive strategies. In addition, this type of network promotes collective learning and incremental innovations, which are key to maintaining competitiveness in a dynamic market. As practical implications, this study offers recommendations for micro-enterprise managers, such as strengthening interfirm cooperation and adopting sustainable practices in their businesses. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on service innovation by highlighting the relevance of horizontal networks in enhancing the innovative capabilities of micro-enterprises, also proposing a collaborative model/framework for innovation in the service sector. We typically think of the demand volume for a business in a city as a function of basic characteristics, such as the type of business, the quality of the product or service offered and its pricing. In addition, factors related to the urban environment, such as population density and accessibility are also crucial and have been considered in the literature. However, these considerations have typically been at the macro level. In this work we are interested in exploring the complementarity between specific (pairs) of venues. Simply put, venue B is complementary to venue A, if customers are more probable to visit venue B after being at venue A. This can increase the traffic for a business beyond the demand expected from the aforementioned factors, and it has been largely ignored in the literature. In this study we take a simulation-based approach to estimate this complementarity. We perform our simulations and analysis on two different spatial levels, namely, the venue level, as well as, the urban area level (e.g., zip code, neighborhood, etc.). The estimated complementarity provides insights for business owners and urban planners that can allow them to satisfy more demand, which consequently can increase the revenue for the businesses, but also can create more convenient urban navigation for city dwellers. Territory, where a network of influence and business interests can be developed, is an important feature of criminal organizations. While some research on organized crime by Chinese triads has been published in recent years, the concept of triad territory is still under-researched. This article discusses what a triad territory is and how it is formed, managed and defended. Through qualitative research, it is found that triad business is territorial in nature. Different triad societies have their own turfs and monopolize certain geographical territories or economic sectors. Territory is important for the survival of triad societies, not only because most of their business operates within the territory but also because they rely on the territory to maintain social networks, exchange criminal market information, gather intelligence and source business opportunities. Background: The importance of mentorship in medicine is well-established. Access to mentors is pivotal in enhancing career opportunities and networking, increasing research productivity, and overall wellness and resilience at all career stages. Our study aims to assess the current status of radiology mentorship programs for Canadian medical students and radiology residents. Methods: We distributed an anonymous survey to Canadian radiology program directors in December 2022. The questions pertained to the existing mentorship programs' specific goals, structure, and success. Our null hypothesis was that medical students and residents have similar mentorship opportunities. Results: We have received 12 responses (a response rate of 12/16 = 75%), 9 of which had formal mentorship programs and 3 (25%) did not. Comparing the mentorship program for medical students and residents yielded a P -value =.11 >.05. This result does not reject our null hypothesis, indicating there is no significant difference between these 2 groups. Using qualitative analysis, we categorized the responses into 4 main themes: mentorship programs' goals, structures, evaluation methods, and their results. Conclusion: Although our result did not reach statistical significance (P -value =.11 >.05), the observed trend shows that one third of Canadian medical schools do not offer a radiology mentorship program for medical students, highlighting a potentially significant opportunity for improvement. Qualitative analysis shows that despite various methods for assigning mentees to mentors, developing formalized yet flexible mentorship models that allow students and residents to self-select their mentors might be more beneficial than randomly assigning mentors to them. Healthcare is a challenging field for innovation: it is characterised by complex regulation and needs for enhanced collaboration between public and private actors who differ in terms of their motivations, innovation needs, and institutional logics. These complexities relate to multiple ways of approaching value capture in terms of securing financial or non-financial benefits from value creation in innovation collaboration. At the same time, existing scholarly knowledge offers limited help to understand or manage value capture practices in public-private collaborations. Exploring the specific practices of value capture is needed not only to understand how the returns from shared value creation activities are secured but also to understand why public and private organisations should invest their limited resources in collaboration in the first place. Applying insights from the innovation management and industrial marketing literatures, the present case study explores value capture practices in public-private collaborations for healthcare technological innovation. Empirically, it draws from twelve collaborations between a public hospital and private firms providing insight into both private firms and a public hospital organization. As a result, the study suggests a categorisation of value capture practices emerging in innovation collaboration in healthcare, thereby explicating how such practices incorporate approaches of both public and private sector participants. We study a prominent energy regulation affecting large Chinese manufacturers that are part of broader conglomerates. Using detailed firm-level data and difference-in-differences research designs, we show that regulated firms cut output and shifted some production to unregulated firms within their conglomerate instead of improving their energy efficiency. To account for conglomerate and market spillovers, we interpret these results through the lens of an industry equilibrium model featuring conglomerate production. The policy raises welfare if the per ton benefits of carbon reduction exceed $161. This study seeks to investigate evidence of cronyism within the intricate network of individuals and entities involved in Turkey’s football industry, spanning financial, political, and football-related actors. Employing Social Network Analysis (SNA) as its primary methodology, our research aims to visually depict this network’s cronyism and provide comprehensive contextual information to enable sociological interpretations of the relationships among these actors. Our findings shed light on the complex entanglement of football management with various networks in Turkey, highlighting that these crony connections obscure the boundary between government and business, resulting in covert political manipulation of the football sector. This interference erodes football management’s autonomy through consistent autocratic regulations favouring crony business networks and indirectly violates international governance principles. Our research underscores that comprehending a football environment intertwined with business and politics requires acknowledging the extensive presence of crony capitalism and the necessity for transparency and autonomy within the football industry. This study examines the nature and implications of linkages between multinational corporations and local institutions across peripheral regions. Analysing the development of outsourced and offshored business services in Romania, the study highlights the role of firm–education–industry association linkages in driving the territorial embeddedness of multinational corporations into host country regions. Firm–education–industry association linkages facilitated changes in higher education curricula to supply firm-specific skills, the development of advanced technical and management skills, and a programme of state policies privileging foreign capital. While this industrial and institutional transformation facilitated Romania's move up the value chain into more advanced business services, it simultaneously drove forms of corporate capture and dependency, reproducing a flexible, co-opted workplace labour regime. Context.--Social media is a powerful tool in pathology education and professional networking that connects pathologists and pathology trainees from around the world. Twitter (X) appears to be the most popular social media platform pathologists use to share pathology-related content and connect with other pathologists. Although there has been some published research on pathology-related activity on Twitter during short time frames, to date there has not been published research examining pathology-related Twitter activity in totality from its earliest days of activity to recently. Objective.--To comprehensively evaluate the use of pathology on Twitter (X) during the last 10 years. Design.--Pathology-related tweets were systematically scraped from Twitter from January 2012 to January 2023 using pathology hashtags as a surrogate measure for all pathology content on Twitter. COVID-related tweets were approximated by tweets containing the term "COVID." Results.--There were 591 812 unique pathology-related tweets identified during the time period, with #pathology being the most common hashtag used and #PathTwitter becoming more popular since 2020. There has been positive annual growth of pathology Twitter, with peaks in use during major pathology conferences. During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, a sustained increase in pathology tweets was observed. Conclusions.--Pathology Twitter has grown during the last 10 years and has become increasingly popular for pathology education and networking. With the changing landscape of social media platforms, this study provides an understanding of how pathology medical education and professional networking uses of social media happen and evolve over time. This study aims to examine the role of Risk Management Mediation and Network Capabilities, the relationship with Human Capital, Dynamic Capabilities and Business Performance in SOE Banking in Manokwari, West Papua Province. The sample of this study is 206 respondents from state-owned banking employees in Manokwari, West Papua. The research data was obtained from filling out questionnaires and analyzed using SEM-AMOS analysis. A key facet to typical undergraduate or graduate global public health programs is an applied practice experience (a practicum) that culminates in shared results and public presentations (e.g., research posters, conference and working papers, needs assessments). Requirements vary by program but may be between 80 and 200 hours of experiential learning. While not required by all undergraduate programs in global public health, a practicum occurs as part of a semester of coursework or internship experience after students have declared the major/minor or have completed an expected number of courses. Some students report that the practicum experience, while essential to their career development and future opportunities, presents certain challenges in terms of access. Practicum opportunities can be rife with assumptions that social networks, privilege, and implicit bias affect and even predict the ability to secure an effective, doable, and career-advantageous project. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that much of the applied and experiential aspects of a practicum were necessarily shifted from "realworld" experiences to virtual and "remote" contexts. This article highlights insights from students enrolled in undergraduate global public health programs who were planning "real-life", more "traditional" practicum experiences, and had to necessarily move to "remote" and online engagement. These cases suggest that participation in virtual fieldsites is seen as legitimate, fulfilling for students and stakeholders, and can increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the public health curricula; fostering best practices in career development. This article highlights the importance of intellectual capital and knowledge management based on information, processes and structures, to achieve competitive advantages. The objective is to analyze how the transfer of knowledge is carried out in companies producing raicilla, alcoholic beverages with designation of origin, with a view to identifying the essential features of the different operations that make up the knowledge creation process, as well as the elements of greater relevance associated with sustainable competitiveness. The research was carried out under a qualitative approach, with nonprobabilistic sampling, using participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 16 producers as techniques. Among the main findings we can highlight that knowledge management is carried out mainly individually, supported by relationships between companies in the sector and, to a lesser extent, with external bodies. It is concluded that raicilla producers seek to improve the hygiene, quality and safety of their production processes. Although competition should focus on quality and variety, they face challenges of price competition with other distilled beverages. Given the small scale and reliance on owners' decisions rather than a formal structure, grassroots businesses face difficulties. It is suggested that, to overcome these challenges, producers must immerse themselves in their environment, take advantage of opportunities, supports and resources, and strengthen ties with various business networks. The sustainability of tourism destinations is highly dependent on an innovative and thriving tourism sector comprised predominantly of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Such businesses are the economic engines of many regional and rural communities and are pivotal in providing the essential services of accommodations, attractions, and experiences. As post-COVID-19 recovery takes hold, national borders reopen and tourism rebounds, rethinking the sustainability and resilience of such tourism businesses has become essential. Tourism businesses need to be not only responsive or reactive in the aftermath of disaster events but to structure themselves in a way that strengthens their resilience. This study systematically evaluates existing literature on hospitality and tourism SMEs and resilience using bibliometric analysis to synthesize existing knowledge, identify major developments, themes, and issues, and stimulate future research. A lexical network analysis identifies five interrelated clusters of research themes within the extant literature on tourism and resilience, providing a comprehensive framework to help understand the corpus of knowledge on this important domain, while a temporal analysis facilitates an understanding of how these themes have developed over time, helping to identify developing research themes and gaps in the literature. A major gap identified is the lack of integration of sustainability as a research topic into the existing knowledge network on business resilience and tourism. By organising learning processes that support the manager's confidence in leadership, the manager's capacity to interact in the complex healthcare system can also increase. This requires an empowering approach from the organisation's top leadership. Change management, based on organisational values, networks, trust, respect, clear structures and frameworks, as well as support and feedback, must be present. Middle managers' journeys towards excellent nursing care, through which they actively contribute to the employees' competence development and demand the development of nursing care in close collaboration with the self-managing clinical nursing specialists, is a process well underway at Lillebælt Hospital, and this is exemplified in this article. Enterprise and entrepreneurship education (EEE) in higher education (HE) is expanding, emphasizing diverse outcomes and teaching methods. This special issue explores extracurricular EEE, which includes voluntary activities like business competitions, networking events, and guest speakers, aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial skills and promoting entrepreneurship as a career. These activities are currently facing challenges in sustainability, engagement and varying availability across institutions. Additionally despite evidence of the positive impacts of employability and entrepreneurial endeavors, research on the value of these activities remains limited. Purpose: Manufacturers face various challenges and risks during their digital servitization (DS), due to the complexity caused by introducing breakthrough technologies, increasingly complex product-service solutions and new stakeholders in the business network. The process necessitates the implementation of various changes that usually happen over a long period of time. Using complexity management as a theoretical lens, this paper delves into manufacturers' DS journeys and explores how manufacturers manage the associated complexities. Design/methodology/approach: This paper investigates the DS journey of two manufacturers in a longitudinal case study from 2014 to 2021. Findings: Three main complexity management actions during the DS journey were identified: shaping the digital service system, shaping the organization and shaping the network. Tied to different types of complexities, these actions demonstrate how manufacturers navigate their journey. The findings also reveal different complexity management approaches used at the different stages of this journey. Originality/value: This paper offers a comprehensive framework for understanding complexity management in the DS journey, including the types of complexities, complexity management actions and complexity management approaches and their rationale. This paper shows that different requirements are created during emerge, consolidate and evolve stages of the DS journey. The Fourth International Last Aid Conference was held from 4th to 6th September 2024 in Cologne, Germany. Seventy-three participants from 16 different countries and nationalities participated in the Fourth International Last Aid conference in the Mildred Scheel Academy and the Department of Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne, Germany. The main topics of the conference were experiences with Last Aid Courses, research on public palliative care education (PPCE) and networks in community palliative care from different countries. The speakers from different countries around the world presented experiences with networking in community care, PPCE and lessons learned from the implementation of Last Aid Courses and different course formats in different countries. The contribution of research and the past and future work of the Last Aid International Research Group (LARGI) for the development of Last Aid was presented and discussed. Social work practitioners, including both current Master of Social Work (MSW) students and MSWs experienced in clinical practice, possess significant potential as clinical researchers. Merging clinical practice and research not only bolsters the foundation for evidence-based interventions but also advances social work's scientific standing. Over time, discussions have underscored social work's promise to enrich the practice evidence-base through rigorous research. This article serves as a practical guide, offering clear direction toward research career paths. Recommendations are provided for MSW students, encouraging them to engage in research and learning opportunities that enhance their education. For MSW graduates, the focus shifts to building networks, active program participation, and considering PhD programs that build on clinical foundations. Introduction: Growing the mental health peer workforce holds promise for rural communities, but we currently lack an understanding of the guidance available to support the development, implementation and sustainability of this workforce in rural settings. Objective: Study aims are to: (1) determine the extent and nature of the literature that provides guidance for growing the peer workforce in rural mental health services; and (2) identify and explore any guidance relevant to rural peer work services dedicated to First Nations communities, including those promoting social and emotional well‐being within this body of literature. Design: A scoping review method was employed to identify relevant peer‐reviewed and grey literature published between 2013 and 2022 across PsychInfo, Medline, Embase and CINAHL, Scopus and Informit HealthInfoNet databases, as well as targeted organisation websites and Google Advanced Search. Findings: A total of 26 unique studies/projects were included from the US, UK, Canada and Australia with public mental health, non‐government/for purpose and private sector service settings represented in the literature. Grey literature, such as reports of evaluations and frameworks, formed the majority of included texts. While there is a lesser volume of rurally focused literature relative to the general peer work literature, this is a rich body of knowledge, which includes guidance concerning services dedicated to First Nations communities. Via synthesis critical considerations were identified for the development, implementation and sustainability of peer work in rural mental health services across six domains: 'Working with community members and stakeholders', 'Organisational culture and governance', Working with others and in teams, Professional expertise and experience, Being part of and working in the community and 'Local mental health services capacity'. Discussion: While there are considerations relevant across a range of settings, the domains of: 'working with community members and stakeholders', 'being part of and working in the community' and 'local mental health services capacity', capture additional, distinct and nuanced challenges and opportunities for growing the peer work in rural services. Conclusion: The literature offers insights valuable for service planning, policy development and the allocation of resources to support rural peer workforce growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the 2024 international research conference organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Society for Acupuncture Research, aimed at bridging Eastern and Western medicine. Topics include the goal of advancing scientific understanding of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the participation of over 300 attendees from 19 countries, and the exchange of research ideas and strategies across health care disciplines.

Continuous knowledge contributions are a key component of the success of virtual question and answer (Q&A) communities. Continuous knowledge contributions comprise answerers' responses to questioners and their questions. As antecedent information to continuous knowledge contributions, based on stimulus–organism–response theory and information dual-process theory, a research model that reflects the impact of the characteristics of questions and questioners on answerers' continuous knowledge contributions is established. Then, the model is empirically examined by using short panel data containing 44,198 question and answer interaction data points collected from 1,830 answerers on the Chinese Software Developer Network. Meanwhile, the mediation effects of outcome expectations and perceived achievement on the characteristics of questions and questioners are investigated. The two-way fixed-effects negative binomial regression results show that (1) the label similarity, question readability, norms of reciprocity and reputation of questioners all have a positive impact on answerers' continuous knowledge contributions in virtual question and answer communities; (2) outcome expectations fully mediate the effect of label similarity, while they partially mediate the effect of question readability, the norms of reciprocity and the reputation of questioners; and (3) perceived achievement mediates the effects of label similarity, the norms of reciprocity and the reputation of questioners. This study seeks to find out the main achievements of a cross-border cooperation project (INESPO III) in terms of innovation and university-firm knowledge transfer in a region situated in the central region of Portugal and Castile and León, Spain. To achieve this aim, research of a qualitative and exploratory nature was chosen., that is, case study method. Data collection was based on seven interviews with several project actors, and content analysis was also used. Through interviews with project beneficiaries, empirical evidence suggests that this type of cooperation allows access to new sources of external knowledge, with the network benefiting globally from each partner's type of specialization. This study makes an important contribution to the literature on cross-border cooperation by extending its field of research to knowledge transfer and innovation, analysing a project that has produced good results. It can be determinant for government institutions responsible for administering cross-border incentive systems, and for partner networks in drawing process of similar projects for benefit of their own regions, besides the clear academic interest in business cooperation networks. This article examines the involvement of the Austrian Netherlands in the transatlantic slave trade of the early 1780s. It focuses on one actor in particular: Frederic Romberg (1729–1819), a Westphalian living in Brussels, who was primarily responsible for the Belgian slave trade. By allowing elites from Flanders to invest in individual slave voyages and thereby gaining political goodwill in Brussels, his Ghent-based firm Romberg & Consors was able to become the key actor in the slave trade under the Imperial flag. The company itself was a consortium of Romberg's northern European network of business partners, most of them Huguenots or Calvinists. Romberg benefited as a shipowner and transport entrepreneur from Habsburg neutrality in the American War of Independence, but his engagement in the slave trade became not only a humanitarian but also a financial disaster. Yet despite constantly losing very substantial sums on his slaving voyages, Romberg intensified his engagement in the colonial trades after 1784, now operating from Bordeaux and buying plantations in St. Domingue. This economically nonsensical behavior demonstrates that investments in the slave trade and plantations were beyond the logic of profitability. They had a global and cosmopolitan allure that attracted Romberg and many of his contemporaries. By examining the mindset of a slave trader who gained popularity from his engagement in that trade, the article reveals why the 1780s were boom years for the slave trade even though its profitability was shrinking and its brutality was being highlighted to ever greater effect by the abolitionist campaign. Aim: This paper explains how we created the Global Intellectual Disability Nurse Research Collaboratory (GIDNRC), a transformative network. The GIDNRC aims to make improvements in the understanding, research, policy, clinical care, and support provided to people with an intellectual disability. Background: In 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) called upon healthcare leaders internationally to take actions to promote more equal healthcare for disabled persons. This paper promotes the GIDNRC as a way for professionals to work together to make more equal healthcare throughout the world for people with intellectual disabilities. Sources of evidence: We created this paper by reviewing peer‐reviewed literature and research, international policies, and nursing networking initiatives. Discussion: This paper explores current policy, research, and practice issues that formed the basis of beginning the GIDNRC, including how the COVID‐19 pandemic changed care. Conclusion: Nurses are over 50% of the world's health workforce. Therefore, they have the potential to make a large impact in making care for people with intellectual disability much more equal than currently exists throughout the world. However, barriers exist. Forming the GIDNRC, as well as using the World Wide Web, offers an opportunity to address barriers to this goal. Implications for nursing practice: Nurses can address the needs of people with intellectual disability in their daily nursing practice. The GIDNRC aims to strengthen these clinical skills, understand how care may vary throughout the world, and share knowledge, good practices, and new ways to approach care for people with an intellectual disability worldwide. Implications for nursing policy: International nursing policy should actively focus on the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and the role nurses play in addressing these health needs. Background: Healthcare-related adverse events directly impact patient safety. Effective reporting of adverse events and workplace factors affecting the quality and quantity of reporting has been a recent focus. In Nova Scotia, pharmacists have been required to report quality-related events (QREs), errors, and near misses since 2010 through the Canadian Pharmacy Incident Reporting (CPhIR) database. This study aims to better understand how healthcare professionals who use the CPhIR system feel about their experience with QREs and the QRE reporting process. Methods: A total of 1000 registered pharmacists and staff were contacted through the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists. Five focus group meetings were conducted from May to October 2018, consisting of 17 community pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and assistants. Analysis: Thematic analysis was used to identify and define emerging themes in the transcripts by multiple readers. The Actor-Network Analytical Theory helped draw a web of connections in producing a safety culture that extends beyond the roles at the dispensing counter. Results: It was found that participants were committed to minimizing and reporting errors, but using the CPhIR database system is both time-consuming and onerous. Additionally, there was a lack of continuity in communicating the QRE system protocols and compliance protocols for the system. Conclusions: Community-based pharmacy culture needs to shift from a compliance-based culture, where error reporting is based on completion and volume, to a just culture that embraces quality and learning from mistakes, a critical element of safe dispensing.
