Objective: To describe the benefits of homemade chocolate consumption on human health in La Chontalpa, Tabasco, Mexico. Design/Methodology/Approach: We interviewed 49 persons in La Chontalpa, along with 30 contacts from social networks; additionally, a participatory workshop was held with 15 persons trained in making homemade chocolate. A traditional specialist doctor who uses cacao as a medicinal base was interviewed and we were observers during cacao ceremonies. The information was analyzed using opinion analysis and the Chi-square test. Results: Ninety-seven-point nine percent of the interviewees agreed that consuming homemade chocolate is beneficial for health, while 89.8% mentioned that consuming chocolate makes them feel good. Fifty-five percent of the consumers consider that chocolate provides them energy; 51.1% say that it helps them to control hunger and thirst; and 36.7% feel that consuming it takes away sadness and laziness. The benefits of chocolate consumption reported in the ceremonies, workshops, and interviews were that it controls depression, promotes concentration, and causes joy; it also cures diarrhea, anemia, headaches, and stomach ache. Study Limitations/Implications: The sanitary restrictions derived from the COVID-19 pandemic limited face-to-face interviews in 2021, which were instead carried out using social networks. It is forbidden to record and take photos and videos of cacao ceremonies; therefore, we were unable to document them. Findings/Conclusions: In La Chontalpa, Tabasco, the population consumes homemade chocolate because they believe that chocolate provides mental and physical health benefits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several research works in the literature have focused on understanding the post-infarction ventricular remodelling phenomenon, but few works have considered the evaluation of the elastic behaviour of the cardiac tissue after a myocardial infarction. This paper presents an investigation focused on predicting the elastic performance of the human heart after a left ventricular apical infarction. The aim is to understand the elastic alterations of the cardiac fibres at different periods after an apical infarct. For this purpose, a hybrid method based on pressure and volume measurements of the left ventricle (LV) at different periods of ventricular remodelling, and the Finite Element Method (FEM), is developed. In addition, several performance indexes are defined to evaluate the heart performance during the ventricular remodelling process. The results show that during the first 2 weeks after a heart infarction, the cardiac fibres must support a much higher structural overload than during normal conditions. Although several numerical models of the human heart have been proposed in the literature, there are still several discrepancies among the results predicted by each model. These discrepancies can be attributed to the fact that each model has a number of assumptions and simplifications, which can limit the scope and precision of the numerical predictions obtained. Moreover, none of the works reported in the literature have assessed the influence of modelling assumptions on the predicted cardiac fiber elastic properties. In this paper a new passive mechanical model that combines the left ventricular (LV) pressure-volume in-vivo measurements with an indirect approach based on the finite element method (FEM), is proposed and used to analyze the influence of different modelling assumptions on the estimated elastic properties of the cardiac fiber. This analysis is carried out by varying modelling assumptions that are common to existing passive mechanical models. The results have shown that although the different modelling assumptions have a significant effect on the predicted value of the fiber elastic properties, they tend to lead to the same results. This suggests that simplified passive numerical models in combination with adjustment factors, are valid in comparison with more refined and complex LV passive models.
