Anxiety disorders are diagnosed when people become overreactive, disassociated, and feel emotionally unable to control feelings to the extent that their daily lifes are affected. Driving phobia is one of the widespread anxiety disorders in modern society, which cause problematic disruptions of a patient's daily activities. Exposure therapy is an approach gaining popularity for treating patients with stress disorders. Virtual reality (VR) technology allows people to interact with objects and stimuli in an immersive way. The VR for phobic therapy using indirect exposure, which can be safely discontinued or lowed in terms of intensity, is the area of research with literature published and patents granted. This research focuses on reviewing virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) literature and patents. The chapter also presents the research and development of a novel driving phobia VRET system with the detailed experiments to demonstrate the design, development, implementation, enhancement, and verification of VRET.

The ExoClock project has been created to increase the efficiency of the Ariel mission. It will achieve this by continuously monitoring and updating the ephemerides of Ariel candidates, in order to produce a consistent catalog of reliable and precise ephemerides. This work presents a homogenous catalog of updated ephemerides for 450 planets, generated by the integration of ∼18,000 data points from multiple sources. These sources include observations from ground-based telescopes (the ExoClock network and the Exoplanet Transit Database), midtime values from the literature, and light curves from space telescopes (Kepler, K2, and TESS). With all the above, we manage to collect observations for half of the postdiscovery years (median), with data that have a median uncertainty less than 1 minute. In comparison with the literature, the ephemerides generated by the project are more precise and less biased. More than 40% of the initial literature ephemerides had to be updated to reach the goals of the project, as they were either of low precision or drifting. Moreover, the integrated approach of the project enables both the monitoring of the majority of the Ariel candidates (95%), and also the identification of missing data. These results highlight the need for continuous monitoring to increase the observing coverage of the candidate planets. Finally, the extended observing coverage of planets allows us to detect trends (transit-timing variations) for a sample of 19 planets. We report the electronic and thermal properties of scandium monoantimonide ScSb by means of the Seebeck coefficient, thermal conductivity, specific heat, and nuclear magnetic resonance measurements. The experimental Seebeck coefficient exhibits a strong temperature dependence, and the theoretical calculation based on the two-band model provides a realistic description of the observed feature. The analysis of the thermal conductivity reveals that the lattice thermal conductivity dominates at low temperatures while electronic thermal conductivity makes a major contribution at high temperatures. A small value of the Sommerfeld coefficient of $0.38\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{mJ}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{mo}{\mathrm{l}}^{\text{--}1}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{K}}^{\text{--}2}$ was extracted from the low-temperature specific heat measurement, indicative of a low electronic Fermi-level density of states (DOS) in ScSb. Furthermore, we have deduced the Sc $3d$ and Sb $5s$ partial Fermi-level DOSs based on the Korringa behavior in the $^{45}\mathrm{Sc}$ and $^{121}\mathrm{Sb}$ NMR spin-lattice relaxation rates. The determined values of the DOS are quite low, giving strong evidence for the semimetallic character in ScSb.

The replacement of an unrestorable tooth with a single implant-supported prosthesis is a treatment with predictable and successful outcomes. The anterior maxilla region is a complicated site for such treatment, due to its esthetic, functional, and physiological sensitivity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in the soft tissue following an immediate implant procedure using guided surgery in combination with a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) customized titanium anatomic abutment in the esthetic zone. A total of 13 patients who had been treated with an immediate post-extraction implant placement and an immediate provisional restoration were included in the study. The changes in the soft tissue dimension, interdental papilla, and esthetic score were evaluated with a follow-up of at least one year. There was no significant change in the midfacial mucosal status when compared to the pre-treatment situation. The recession of the mesial papillary height was 0.32 mm and the distal papillary height was 0.10 mm. The mean horizontal change in the labial mucosa was 0.32 ± 0.83 mm. There was no significant difference between the mesial papilla index and the distal papilla index. The pink esthetic score value prior to treatment was 11.16, and at one-year follow-up, 10.25. Within the limitations of this study, the immediate post-extraction implant placement procedure with a stereolithographic guide and a provisionalization with a CAD/CAM customized titanium anatomic abutment may be a treatment option with predictable outcomes for the replacement of teeth in the esthetic zone.

This study is aimed to carry out an experimental verification for the finite element model and to propose a design scheme for using a dual-mass blankholder in a stamping process to increase the press ram speed without raising the impact force, in part by generating the response surface of the process parameters, whose ranges in the finite element analysis are extended. As a result, the impact has no significant relationship to the preload and the coefficient of the springs used to connect plates, but it has a significant positive correlation with the mass of the plates and the press speed. Thus an empirical equation is found by linear regression to design a dual-mass blankholder for a stamping process. With two examples, it shows that the design scheme is indeed feasible, which could become a reference for industrial applications.

The electronic structures of Fe-based and Ru-based full Heusler compounds have been investigated systematically by density functional theory (DFT) with PBE, PBE + U, and HSE06 exchange-correlation (XC) functionals. In order to have a better systematic and quantitative comparison between the results of different approximations, the average deviation of eigenvalues (ADE) between any two electronic band structures were calculated. From quantitative analysis of the ADEs, we have shown that different XC functionals used in the DFT calculations will result in very different and inconsistent electronic band structures. However, the discrepancies are dramatically reduced and get more consistent band structures after the GW calculations. Furthermore, comparing the experimental and calculated Seebeck coefficients and band-gap values of Fe2VAl, it implies that the GW methods including dynamically screened Coulomb interactions are more reliable than DFT with PBE or HSE06 functionals. Conclusively, contrast to the fact that DFT methods give inconsistent band structures when using different XC functionals, the GW methods have better predictive power for the band structures of Fe-based and Ru-based full Heusler compounds.

In the present communication, the effect of Ba substitution on the structural, mechanical, electrical transport and thermal properties of La0.65Ca0.35� xBaxMnO3 (0.00 6 x 6 0.25) manganites have been investigated. Rietveld refinement of XRD data reveals that all samples are single phase. With increasing Ba content, a transformation of crystal structure from rhombohedral (x = 0.00–0.15) to cubic symmetry (x = 0.25) is observed. In the micro-hardness study, a correlation between the average grain size and micro-hardness is concluded. It is found that all samples exhibit a clear metal–insulator transition, and the transition temperature (TMI) shifts monotonically towards higher temperature. The Seebeck coefficient (S) of the pristine sample is negative in the entire temperature range, whereas for all doped samples the measured S exhibits a crossover from positive to negative values. The analysis of Seebeck coefficient data indicates that the small polaron hopping model is operative in the high temperature region. The room-temperature magnitude of thermal conductivity, j of the studied samples is in the range of 20–35 mW/cm K and such low value is presumably attributed to the Jahn Teller (J-T) effect. An analysis of j using Wiedemann–Franz’s (W–F) law confirms that the total thermal conductivity is mainly associated with the lattice phonons rather than charge carriers. The change in entropy associated with the transition evaluated from the specific heat measurements is found to decrease with increasing x, most likely due to the enhancement of magnetic inhomogeneity in these manganites.

We demonstrate an integrated silicon-based slave transceiver integrating a DPSK receiver and a polarization diversity reflective modulator. We successfully achieved up to 40 Gbit/s OOK-NRZ modulation and 25 Gbit/s DPSK detection over more than 20 nm and 10 km.

We reported the first hybrid Ill-V/Si integrated QPSK wavelength-tunable transmitter based on high-speed ring modulators (BW∼23GHz). 80 Gbit/s PDM-QPSK signal transmission over 100 km with said integrated hybrid transmitter as well as a fully packaged silicon-based coherent receiver is demonstrated.

We report the demonstration of an ultra-compact 5-channel hybrid integrated III-V/Si transmitter. We successfully achieved modulation up to 40 Gbit/s/channel providing a total aggregated capacity of 200 Gbit/s and transmission over 10 km at 21.4 Gbit/s/channel for 100Gbit/s.

We review recent advances on hybrid III-V/Silicon devices using edge coupling. Design of external silicon cavities enables the realization of a broad range of on-chip functionalities as well as advanced hybrid transmitters.

This was a two-phase prospective intervention study in the cardiology intensive care unit (CICU) and medical intensive care unit (MICU) and of a public 1800-bed medical centre in Taiwan. In phase I, cleaning efficacy was monitored by ATP bioluminescence after daily morning cleaning, and only 43.9% of 221 tested surfaces passed. The baseline data were used to define an intervention consisting of a new cleaning protocol as well as a new education/training programme. In phase II, following the intervention, 88.1% of 270 surfaces were found to be clean. The combined infection rate in the CICU and MICU showed a statistically significant decrease of 49.7%.

The ZnO nanorod arrays are grown on the sol–gel-derived seed layer through aqueous chemical growth, and then assembled as gas sensors for detecting carbon monoxide (CO). It is found that the structural and photoluminescent properties of the ZnO nanorod arrays are different as they are grown on seed layers annealed at different temperature (300–700 °C), which is ascribed to distinct growth kinetics of nanorods on the annealed seed layer. Moreover, the correlation between the exposed surface area and the defect density of those ZnO nanorod arrays points out the intrinsic (interior) defects can dominate the green emission instead of surface defects in the present study. Furthermore, the quantities of chemisorbed oxygen on ZnO nanorod arrays can be estimated through XPS analysis. Consequently, the influence of intrinsic defects and chemisorbed oxygen on the electrical properties and gas sensitivities of ZnO nanorod arrays has been clearly elucidated. It is demonstrated that the more adsorbed oxygen and an appropriate amount of intrinsic defects is advantageous to obtain superior CO gas sensitivity for ZnO nanorod arrays.

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptor signaling is a major functional determinant of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF). Elevated expression of PDGF receptors on stromal CAFs is associated with metastasis and poor prognosis, but mechanism(s) that underlie these connections are not understood. Here, we report the identification of the secreted glycoprotein stanniocalcin-1 (STC1) as a mediator of metastasis by PDGF receptor function in the setting of colorectal cancer. PDGF-stimulated fibroblasts increased migration and invasion of cocultured colorectal cancer cells in an STC1-dependent manner. Analyses of human colorectal cancers revealed significant associations between stromal PDGF receptor and STC1 expression. In an orthotopic mouse model of colorectal cancer, tumors formed in the presence of STC1-deficient fibroblasts displayed reduced intravasation of tumor cells along with fewer and smaller distant metastases formed. We designed and fabricated a fast-wavelength-tunable hybrid laser diode using two selectable silicon photonic Vernier ring-based cavities. Single mode operation (SMSR > 30 dB) over more than 35 nm and switching speed of 35 ns are demonstrated.

A trilevel resist system was employed to fabricate self-aligned, submicron emitter finger In0.52Al0.48As/In0.42Ga0.58As0.77Sb0.23/ In0.53Ga0.47As double heterojunction bipolar transistors (DHBTs). Selective wet-etchants were used to define the emitter fingers and to form an InGaAs guard-ring around the emitter fingers. Due to the low energy bandgap of the InGaAsSb base layer and type II base-collector junction, a low turn-on voltage of 0.38 V at 1 A/cm2 and a high dc current gain of 123.8 for a DHBT with a 0.65 x 8.65 µm2 emitter area were obtained. A unity gain cut-off frequency (fT) of 260 GHz and a maximum oscillation frequency (fmax) of 485 GHz at JC = 302 kA/cm2 were achieved.

We report the results of yttrium substitution on the electrical resistivity (r), the thermal conductivity (k), as well as the Seebeck coefficient (S) of the Sr1� xYxAl2Si2 alloys with 0 � x � 0.20. Both r(T) and S(T) data suggest that SrAl2Si2 is a semimetallic, low charge carrier density system with a pseudogap at the Fermi level density of states (DOS). Upon substituting Y onto the Sr sites, the electrical resistivity and the absolute value of the Seebeck coefficient decrease significantly. Such an observation can be associated with the modification of the electronic band structure due to electron doping via Y substitution. Analysis of the thermal conductivity reveals the contribution of various thermal scattering mechanisms through chemical substitution. Theoretical studies with density functional theory are also employed to investigate the electronic band structure of Sr1�x YxAl2Si2. It is revealed that SrAl2Si2 possesses a shallow DOS at the Fermi level with both n-type and p-type charge carriers. Upon Y substitution a shift in the Femi level occurs such that the Sr1�x YxAl2Si2 system becomes more metallic with increasing x, being consistent with the experimental findings.
