The article focuses on Çayönü Tepesi, a site in Turkey, which adds to the growing record of man's agricultural origins and revealed there is the earliest evidence of man's use of metal. It recalls the first direct attempt to discover just when in human prehistory farming villages appeared. It describes the village-like site of Mallaha, in northern Israel. The main evidence concerning the early occupation of the Çayönü Tepesi site is noted.
