Antimicrobial coatings are designed to inhibit the growth of pathogens and have been used to reduce foodborne illness bacteria on food processing equipment. Novel N-halamine based antimicrobial coatings are highly advantageous due to their unique properties and low cost, and are being investigated for applications in food safety, health care, water and air disinfection, etc. In this study, we evaluated the chemical safety of a novel N-halamine antimicrobial polymer coating (Halofilm) for use on food processing equipment. Migration tests were performed on stainless steel tiles prepared with four different treatment groups: negative control, positive control, Halofilm coating without chlorination, and Halofilm coating with chlorination. An LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for four formulation components: polyethylenimine (PEI), Trizma® base, hydantoin acrylamide (HA) and dopamine methacrylamide (DMA), followed by stability and recovery tests. Migration tests were conducted at 40 °C with three food simulants (10, 50 and 95% ethanol/water) to mimic various food properties, and aliquots of migration extracts were analyzed at 2, 8, 72, 240 and 720 h. In general, measured concentration levels were consistent among simulant types for the four tested chemicals. Chlorinated tiles had non-detects for three analytes (PEI, HA and DMA), and less than 0.05 mg/kg of HA migration over 30 days. A chlorination step could possibly change the measured mass (m/z) hence leading to non-detects in targeted LC-MS/MS. In non-chlorinated tiles, all four compounds were detected during the migration test. This suggests that addition of the chlorination step may have a stabilizing effect on the polymer. Additionally, full scan high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) analysis was employed to screen for migration of other extractable and leachable (E&L) chemicals, which led to the identification of eight common E&L chemicals. Coating the solid dosage form, such as tablets, is considered common, but it is a critical process that provides different characteristics to tablets. It increases the value of solid dosage form, administered orally, and thus meets diverse clinical requirements. As tablet coating is a process driven by technology, it relies on advancements in coating techniques, equipment used for the coating process, evaluation of coated tablets, and coated material used. Although different techniques were employed for coating purposes, which may be based on the use of solvents or solvent-free, each of the methods used has its advantages and disadvantages, and the techniques need continued modification too. During the process of film coating, several inter-and intra-batch uniformity of coated material on the tablets is considered a critical point that ensures the worth of the final product, particularly for those drugs that contain an active medicament in the coating layer. Meanwhile, computational modeling and experimental evaluation were actively used to predict the impact of the operational parameters on the final product quality and optimize the variables in tablet coating. The efforts produced by computational modeling or experimental evaluation not only save cost in optimizing the coating process but also saves time. This review delivers a brief review on film coating in solid dosage form, which includes tablets, with a focus on the polymers and processes used in the coating. The object of our research is to observe the expression of 1D lamellar photonic crystal color depending on difference molecular weight of PolyStyrene-Block-2-Vinyl Pyridine(PS-b-P2VP) (52k-57k, 84K-69k, 102k-97k) and different coating solvent (propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA), tetrahydrofuran (THF)). Color changes of photonic crystal would be reported through a simple method. 1D lamellar photonic crystal was made by the same molecular weight of Poly Styrene-block-Poly-2-Vinyl Pyridine (52K-57K) in different coating solvent tetrahydrofuran (THF) and propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA). After having done spin coating, we accomplished annealing. Six different results was obtained through experiments. A variety of color expressions was analyzed through UV visible spectrometer. Functionalized silicon dioxide nanoparticles (nano-fSiO2) were uniformly deposited on the surface of carbon fibers (CFs) using a coating process which consisted of immersing the fibers directly in a suspension of nano-fSiO2 particles and epoxy monomers in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP). The 0° flexural properties, 90° flexural properties, and Interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) mechanical properties of unidirectional epoxy composites made with nano-fSiO2+epoxy sized carbon fibers, with control fibers, and with epoxy-only sized fibers were measured and compared. An obvious increase of the fiber/matrix adherence strength was obtained with the nano-fSiO2+epoxy coating. The nano-fSiO2+epoxy sized CF/epoxy composites showed a relative increase of 15%, 50%, and 22% in comparison to control fibers, for the Interlaminar shear strength, the 90° flexural strength and the 90° flexural modulus, respectively, but little e difference was measured between the different systems for the 0° flexural properties. The observation of the fracture surfaces by scanning electron microscopy of composite fracture confirmed the improvement of the interfacially dependent mechanical properties. POLYM. Light metals such as aluminium or magnesium alloys play an important role in many different industrial applications. However, aluminium and especially magnesium alloys show relatively poor resistance to sliding wear, low hardness and load bearing capacity, so that surface performance improvement is recommended, often by PVD processes. This study evaluates the tribological improvement achieved by applying a duplex coating on AW-7022 aluminium alloy or AZ91 magnesium alloy substrates, consisting of a thick coating interlayer, deposited by High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF), followed by a PVD (TiN, TiAlN) or PE-CVD (DLC) hard top layers. The deposition of thermal sprayed HVOF coatings, as primary layer, leads to improvement of the load bearing capacity of the substrates and allows reducing the tendency of hard thin top layer to cracking and delamination when it is directly deposited on a softer substrate. The number of laps to failure, in the pin-on-disc wear tests, of TiN and TiAlN PVD coatings deposited on the harder interlayer HVOF coating were significantly higher (3000 and 1400 laps, respectively) than the values measured for these coatings deposited directly on the aluminium substrate (140 and 120 laps, respectively). The best combination of properties was obtained with the DLC top layer deposited on the thermally sprayed coatings, with a significant reduction of friction coefficient (< 0.10), which remains almost unchanged even after 40,000 laps in the pin-on-disc wear tests. This work is aimed at developing a new type of CrC-(Ni,Cr)(Al,Cr) coating for parts used in heavy-duty diesel engines. The feedstock, in which the stripe-shaped CrC was in situ formed, was firstly prepared by vacuum melting and gas atomization and then subjected by high-velocity oxy-fuel spraying to form the coatings. The carbon content, microstructure and phase constitution of the powders, as well as the sprayed coatings, were analyzed by chemical analysis, SEM and XRD. The hardness and sliding wear performance of the sprayed coatings were also tested and compared to a commercial CrC-NiCr coating used on piston rings. The results showed that the content of carbon in feedstock was almost the same as designed, and that the volume content of in situ formed CrC was increased with carbon and chromium added. The major phases of the powders and sprayed coatings are CrC and Cr-alloyed NiAl. Only a small amount of carbon lost during the spraying process. As CrC content increased in the coatings, the microhardness at room temperature was firstly increased to about 1000Hv. The microhardness of the coatings stayed almost constant, while the testing temperature was raised up to 700 °C for 0.5 h, which illustrates the potential application of the investigated coatings under high temperature conditions. The coatings containing 70 and 77 vol.% CrC showed the most promising wear resistance, lower friction coefficient and better tribological compatibility to gray cast iron counterpart than other tested CrC-(Ni,Cr)(Al,Cr) coatings and the reference CrC-NiCr coating. This paper studies the microstructure, sliding wear behavior and corrosion resistance of high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF)-sprayed FeVCrC-based coatings. Various process parameters were tested to evaluate their effects on the coating properties, which were also compared to those of HVOF-sprayed NiCrBSi and Stellite-6 coatings. The Fe alloy coatings are composed of flattened splats, originating from molten droplets and consisting of a super-saturated solid solution, together with rounded particles, coming from partially unmolten material and containing V- and Fe-based carbide precipitates. All process parameters, apart from 'extreme' settings with excess comburent in the flame, produce dense coatings, indicating that the feedstock powder is quite easily processable by HVOF. These coatings, with a microhardness of 650-750 HV, exhibit wear rates of ≈2 × 10 mm/(Nm) in ball-on-disk tests against sintered AlO spheres. They perform far better than the reference coatings, and better than other Fe- and Ni-based alloy coatings tested in previous research. On the other hand, the corrosion resistance of the coating material (tested by electrochemical polarization in 0.1 M HCl solution) is quite low. Even in the absence of interconnected porosity, this results in extensive, selective damage to the Fe-based matrix. This coating material is therefore unadvisable for severely corrosive environments. The article discusses the characteristics of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC)-coated samples on a synthetic fiber sheet to determine the potential of NFC as a coating material. It cites the utilization of water-based printing methods to note the change in print quality such as ink absorption rates and print density along with the use of confocal laser scanning microscope for ink pigment penetration. This article examines a new generation of highly efficient equipment for plasma strengthening and coating application to improve the durability of metallurgical tools subjected to friction during service. Results are presented from x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of a wear-resistant nano-coating applied by a method referred to as finish plasma-strengthening. The article presents a study on the impact of conformal coating on adhesive joints that are anisotropically conductive. The study applied epoxy and parylene conformal coating samples to determine the coatings' impact on electronics reliability in medical applications. The results of the study indicate fluctuation in the reliability of adhesive joints with different conformal coatings. Moreover, the analysis' failure foregrounds expressed failure mechanisms.

Abstract: Detailed knowledge of particle motion is essential in better understanding fluidised bed coating processes. This paper reports on the use of Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) in order to visualise and quantify the features of the powder movement inside a laboratory-scale GPCG-1 fluidised bed coater (Glatt GmbH, Germany) with a tapered (conical) chamber. In all cases, a clear circulating motion, upwards in the centre and downwards along the walls, was revealed. This circulating pattern lends itself to operations such as particle coating, where controlled application of the coating onto the particles is essential. In contrast to the fluidisation patterns observed in cylindrical fluidised beds or spouted beds without a draft tube, radial movement was stronger and occurred at all heights in the powder bed. By introducing a binary nozzle and increasing the nozzle atomisation air pressure, the circulating motion of the fluidised particles in a tapered vessel was found to be accelerated. When spraying a coating solution downwards onto the fluidised powder particles, effects on the particle motion, depending on coating solution properties and process parameters, were observed. Besides visualisation, PEPT was also used to derive quantitative information such as bed height and particle circulation time, as well as to investigate the size of the coating zone. Generally, it was demonstrated that PEPT can be successfully used to characterise the particle motion in a tapered fluidised bed under both drying and coating conditions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This paper deals with an industrial three rolls coater. The behaviour law of the elastomer roll cover in different environments is first established in order to be taken into account in the numerical simulation of the process. Cyclic compression tests are performed and compared to the corresponding numerical simulation to precisely determine the viscoelastic parameters. With the identified parameters, a finite element simulation of the process is then performed to evaluate the meniscus stability in real contact conditions. High-power 2.8 W blue-violet InGaN LD was fabricated, applying AlN facet coating technology. The AlN was found to be crystallized on the facets and very stable even after 2200 h cw operation.
