International audience; In the context of the topological optimization of a vertical channel asymmetrically heated inmixed convection, a new local cost function is defined and studied. This local cost function involvessome physical quantities in each point of the computational domain, namely the angle between thevelocity vector and the gradient of temperature in order to increase the heat transfer in the channel. Anumerical experiment is carried out along with the use of some more classical global cost functions. Achannel shape with increased heat convection is obtained.; Dans le cadre de l'optimisation topologique d'un canal verticalement chauffé et d'uń ecoulement fluideà convection naturelle dominante, une nouvelle fonction objectif dite locale est etudiée. Celle-ci prend en compte des grandeurs physiques définies en chaque point du domaine de calcul, telles que les angles entre le vecteur vitesse et gradient de température, afin de favoriser leś echanges de chaleur. Uneétude numérique superposant cette fonctionnelleà des fonctions objectifs globales classiques est présentée. Des géométries de canal qui convectent mieux la chaleur sont obtenues.

L'économie d'énergie est un enjeu majeur des bâtiments en milieu tropical où les températures extérieures élevées imposent encore trop souvent d'utiliser des systèmes énergivores permettant d'assurer le confort des occupants d'un bâtiment. Les présents travaux concernent les échangeurs de chaleurs passifs fonctionnant à partir du principe de siphon thermique et de ventilation naturelle. Le mur trombe est une application de génie climatique concrète de ce principe. L'objectif est d'optimiser la forme d'un canal vertical chauffé asymétriquement dans lequel l'air s'écoule afin qu'il réponde au mieux à certains objectifs physiques tel que favoriser les échanges de chaleurs entre l'entrée et la sortie du canal. Ce problème physique est celui du mur trombe. On utilise pour cela une méthode d'optimisation topologique adjointe où l'on pénalise les équations de Navier-Stokes par un terme dit de Brinkman issue de la théorie des milieux poreux, tel que proposé par Othmer et al. Ces travaux s'inscrivent dans la poursuite des travaux réalisés par Ramalingom et al. L'originalité apportée ici consiste à définir et à utiliser des fonctionnelles locales définies dans l'ensemble du domaine fluide. Une revue de la littérature a montré que cette approche n'a pas encore été proposée et que seuls des fonctionnelles globales sont utilisées à ce jour. Ces fonctionnelles locales permettent de venir renforcer ou atténuer localement les effets des fonctionnelles globales. Ce sont donc de nouveaux outils à la disposition du concepteur permettant d'optimiser un domaine en tenant compte de critères locaux. L'objectif de la communication est de présenter les avantages et les perspectives d'avoir recours aux fonctionnelles locales en optimisation topologique. Les fonctionnelles globales « classiques » (définies comme la différence de quantités entre l'entrée et la sortie de l'échangeur) telles que la minimisation des pertes de charges du fluide et la maximisation des transferts de chaleurs sont reformulées en fonctionnelles locales (quantités calculées en chaque point du domaine). Les sorties du modèle sont la forme optimisée du domaine, les champs de température, et les champs de vitesse dans le domaine.

The objective of this study is to highlight the effect of porosity variation in a topology optimization process in the field of fluid dynamics. Usually a penalization term added to momentum equation provides to get material distribution. Every time material is added inside the computational domain, there is creation of new fluid-solid interfaces and apparition of gradient of porosity. However, at present, porosity variation is not taken account in topology optimization and the penalization term used to locate the solid is analogous to a Darcy term used for flows in porous media. With that in mind, Corresponding author: michael.rakotobe@univ-reunion.fr in this paper, we first develop an original one-domain macroscopic model for the modelling of flow through spatially varying porous media that goes beyond the scope of Darcy regime. Next, we numerically solve a topology optimization problem and compare the results obtained with the standard model that does not include effect of porosity variation with those obtained with our model. Among our results, we show for instance that the designs obtained are different but percentages of reduction of objective functional remain quite close (below 4% of difference). In addition, we illustrate effects of poros-ity and particle diameter values on final optimized designs.

This paper deals with a multi-objective topology optimization problem in an asymmetrically heated channel, considering both pressure drop minimization and heat transfer maximization. The problem is modeled under the assumptions of steady-state laminar flow dominated by natural convection forces. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled to the convection-diffusion equation through the Boussinesq approximation are employed and are solved with the finite volume method. In this paper, we propose two new objective functions: the first one takes into account work of pressure forces and contributes to the loss of mechanical power while the second one is related to thermal power and is linked to the maximization of heat exchanges. In order to obtain a well-defined fluid-solid interface in the optimized design, we use a sigmoid interpolation function for both the design variable field and the effective diffusivity. We also use adjoint sensitivity analysis to compute the gradient of the cost functional. Results are obtained for various Richardson (Ri) number such that 100 < Ri < 400 and for a Reynolds (Re) number set to Re=400. In all considered cases, our algorithm succeeds to enhance one of the phenomenon modeled by our new cost functions without deteriorating the other one. We also show that the reversal flow is suppressed at the exit of the channel, the thermal exchanges are improved by our optimized designs. We also compare the results of standard cost functions from the literature to those of our cost functions. Weshow that the new objective functions reached stable values in less iteration number and allow best connectivity of solid elements. As a result the new objective functions proposed in this paper are well suited to deal with natural convection optimization problem.

International audience; L'objectif dans cette communication est d'appliquer une méthode d'optimisation topologique à un canal vertical asymétriquement chauffé (le modèle du GDR AMETh [1]). La réduction de perte de pression et la conservation de la température de mélange en sortie du canal se définissent par la minimisation de deux fonctionnelles objectifs. L'écoulement est laminaire pour un nombre de Rayleigh égale à Ra b = 5 × 10 5. Nous présentons les équations constitutives et les équations adjointes résultantes de la méthode utilisée. Les résultats de cet article sont : la forme optimisée du domaine, les champs de température et les champs de vitesse dans le domaine. Nous évaluons aussi la perte de pression associée et la température débitante en sortie du canal.

The air velocity is one of the thermal comfort criteria for building users. Thus, an increase of air velocity on building users contributes to reduce perceived temperature. Therefore, air movement in the areas of users improves thermal comfort. Airflow dynamics may be changed by altering the design aspect of the ventilation nozzles. To achieve suitable air velocity, the design methods of ventilation nozzles are based on experimental tests or numerical trial and error methods. In contrast, the optimal control theory is used in order to find suitable conditions of blowing according to objective criteria in the users area. The topology optimization is a method to find optimal geometries by adding material in a domain. We propose in this paper the use of topology optimization method for nozzles designing with the aim of controlling the oulet velocity and the minimizing of the total dissipated power. The results presented in this article shows the possibilities to find optimal geometries for both objectives. The final geometry of the ventilation orifice is then conditioned by the choice of the designer to increase the influence at one of the two aspects of the minimization. Results are presented for turbulent flow, isothermal, incompressible and steady-state, governed by RANS k-epsilon model., La vitesse d’air est un des critères de confort thermique de l’usager des bâtiments. Ainsi, une augmentation de la vitesse d’air sur l’usager contribue à la réduction de la température ressentie. Par conséquent, l’augmentation des mouvements d’air dans les zones de présence desusagers contribue alors à l’amélioration du confort thermique. La dynamique des flux d’air dans une pièce peut être modifiée en altérant la forme des bouches de ventilations. Pour atteindre des vitesses d’air optimales le dimensionnement des orifices de soufflage est effectué par méthodesessais-erreurs expérimentales ou numériques. Par opposition, La théorie du contrôle optimal permet de déterminer des conditions de soufflage en fonction de critères à atteindre dans la zone de l’usager. L’optimisation topologique est une méthode qui en découle, elle permet ainsi de trou-ver des géométries optimales en ajoutant de la matière dans le domaine. Nous proposons dans cette contribution une utilisation de l’optimisation topologique comme méthode de conception de bouches de ventilation dans l’objectif de contrôler la vitesse en sortie de l’orifice et en minimisantla puissance totale dissipée. Les résultats présentés montrent qu’il est possible de trouver des géométries optimales en visant ces deux objectifs. La géométrie finale de la bouche de la ventilation est alors conditionnée par le souhait du concepteur à favoriser l’un des deux aspects de la minimisation. Les résultats sont présentés pour un écoulement turbulent, isotherme, incompressibleet en régime permanent, modélisé par les équations du modèle RANS k-epsilon.

50 (avec 1,5 interligne); International audience; The asymptotic analysis, carried out in this paper, for the problem of a multiple scattering of a time-harmonic wave by obstacles whose size is small as compared with the wavelength establishes that the effect of the small bodies can be approximated at any order of accuracy by the field radiated by point sources. Among other issues, this asymptotic expansion of the wave furnishes a mathematical justification with optimal error estimates of Foldy's method that consists in approximating each small obstacle by a point isotropic scatterer. Finally, it is shown how this theory can be further improved by adequately locating the center of phase of the point scatterers and taking into account of self-interactions.

This thesis carries out some studies concerning the mathematical modelling and the numerical approximation of problems involving homogenized metamaterials. In the first part, we investigate wave propagation problems with homogenized metamaterials for Maxwell's equations and acoustics or linear elasticity systems. We establish that each of these systems is well-posed under assumptions that are relevant for some models already designed in the literature. We next tackle their numerical approximation. We give results showing that the finite element method for the approximation of Helmholtz equation, when metatmaterials are involved, may not converges. We propose then a numerical scheme, the EF-AL scheme, which can be used with metamaterials and we prove that it converges as soon as the considered problem is well-posed. We finish studying the discontinuous galerkin scheme. We show numerically its convergence for some examples of metamaterials. The second part presents a formal non-periodic homogenization process for acoustic metamaterials. The work of A.G. Ramm, designing a medium by assembling many obstacles, is extended meanwhile accurately describing the asymptotic behavior of the field scattered by a finite number of small ball of radius \delta. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used. We establish existence and uniqueness of the latter expansion and prove error estimates giving it a theoretical background. Next we assume that the number of small obstacles grows to infinity when \delta goes to 0 and pass to the limit in the asymptotic expansion. A Born approximation then yields the refractive index of an effective medium packaging all the small bodies which corresponds, in some cases, to a metamaterial., Cette thèse concerne la modélisation mathématique et l'approximation numérique de modèles homogénéisés de métamatériaux.
