COVID-19 has impacted the sport industry across all contexts, including intercollegiate athletics. Specifically, research has found that the Collegiate Sport Addition Process (CSAP) to add or remove a sport for athletic departments in previous economic downturns must consider multiple factors. The current study builds on previous research by exploring the considerations of adding a sport through a buyer- seller interaction framework. Specifically, the current study explored whether sport governing bodies or coaching associations should attempt to sell their sport at the intercollegiate Conference level, rather than at the institution level. The current study used a survey to collect feedback from conference commissioners across the intercollegiate sport landscape. Through surveys and follow-up interviews, findings led to emergent themes of balance, viability, funding and revenue, and post-season opportunities as factors that conference personnel considered when deciding to add a sport. Dual nomenclature as applied to dinoflagellates is underpinned by conceptual and practical considerations. It allows the separate naming of fossil- and non-fossil species even when they are linked to one another by incubation studies and other techniques. It is needed because fossil- and non-fossil taxonomies are based on different stages of the life cycle and cannot be integrated at the generic level. All taxonomists today who study dinoflagellates, whether living or fossil, place their work under the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants. The Shenzhen Code and its predecessors have supported dual nomenclature implicitly with the help of examples, but without clear explanation of what it is and how it works. In Madrid, Spain in July 2024, the Nomenclature Section of the XX International Botanical Congress approved two new articles for the Code that remove earlier contradictions and introduced dual nomenclature explicitly, drawing on a critical distinction between ‘synonymy’ and the new concept and term ‘taxonomic equivalence’. These changes will be incorporated into the forthcoming Madrid Code. A commentary is provided on the seven formally published proposals to modify the provisions of Chapter F of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICNafp) that will be dealt with by the Fungal Nomenclature Session (FNS) of the 12th International Mycological Congress (IMC12) in August 2024. The proposals deal with: fungi whose morph-names have the same epithet; the listing of synonyms under entries for protected names in the Code Appendices; the processes of protection and rejection; the use of DNA sequences as nomenclatural types; the use of genomes as nomenclatural types; and the designation of fungi known only from DNA sequences. Translation abstract Contribution to determining the diameter of piles based on thermal integrity profilingWhen carrying out thermal integrity profiling (TIP), it is often said that the profiling serves, among other things, to determine the cubature of the pile created. In the relevant publications on TIP, Pile Dynamics, Inc., among others, points out that this is only an estimate of the concrete cover or excess concrete during pile production. In particular, in this case it is assumed that the installed concrete volume must also be monitored in order to contrast this with the measurement results. However, from the authors′ point of view, this alone is not enough to draw a well‐founded conclusion about the pile cubature from the temperature records. This approach appears to be problematic, particularly with special shapes. As part of the 17th Hans Lorenz Symposium 2023 at the Technical University of Berlin, the first “New findings on Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP) on deep piles with special shapes” were presented. These findings were expanded upon as part of further investigations using the commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics and are presented in more detail below. The result is that the influencing factors are so diverse that even if they are taken into account, no conclusions can be drawn about the diameter. This is clearly presented by the authors below. Striving for health equity through research and education 15–16 August 2024, Western Sydney University, Parramatta, Sydney, Australia The Australasian Association for Academic Primary Care (AAAPC) held its Annual Research Conference from 15 to 16 August 2024 in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia. The Conference provided an important opportunity to: Showcase Australasia's leading primary care research; Nurture research excellence; Promote multidisciplinary research networks and collaborations; Support the translation of evidence into policy and practice; Strengthen the impact of primary care research and Promote opportunities for networking. The Conference hosted almost 200 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand. We were also delighted to welcome colleagues from Asia, the UK and North America. This essay engages rhetorics of zeal, a common genre of contemporary discourse that merits further study. To focus on a representative example, we draw from multi-sited rhetorical fieldwork at nuclear science conferences and supplementary texts, examining the rhetoric of nuclear professionals' zealous advocacy of nuclear power as a response to climate change and energy poverty. A common set of arguments appears throughout our texts: jealousy or envy over renewable energy technologies; protectiveness over perceived unfair policy treatment; love or devotion for nuclear energy as a savior technology; and passion or zeal to share the story of nuclear support with others. To describe these and similar rhetorics, we theorize the nuclear zelus trope. Drawing from the mythological and etymological history of the term "zeal," zelus rhetorics are characterized by a general narrative of passionate advocacy. Through a series of rhetorical patterns that channel passion into a call to action, nuclear zelus names white savior and racialized tropes that position nuclear energy technology as a global savior and supporters of nuclear energy as driven by a sense of righteousness. This essay analyzes statements made by the International Indigenous People's Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) at the United Nations Climate Change Conferences from 2017–2021 to amplify how Indigenous speakers navigate international climate negotiations and build transnational networks of solidarity through their storytelling. In looking at statements, speeches, and panels from Indigenous advocates connected with the IIPFCC, I argue Indigenous storytelling braids together temporal, place, and felt knowledges into constellations of what Tiara Na'puti calls "resilience rhetorics," or rhetorical patterns of meaning-making across texts that rhetorically (re)iterate colonial discourses of resilience around Indigenous adaptability, relationality, and reciprocity with more-than-humans. Constellations of resilience rhetorics coalesce relational ways of knowing, connect stories through Indigenous resiliency, resist market-based, colonial solutions to climate change, and empower Indigenous international leadership in the cultivation of climate justice futures. In building on Na'puti's work through a focus on Indigenous storytelling as worldmaking, constellations as rhetorical patterns of (re)iterated resiliency across texts, and temporal, place, and felt knowledges as relational epistemologies foregrounded in Indigenous storytelling, I argue constellations of resilience rhetorics are forms of international coalition-building that counter colonial apocalyptic temporalities, spatialities, and affectivities and center Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination in climate justice solutions. Attending and presenting at conferences is a preeminent experience during scientific training. This article provides a trainee's perspective on strategies to promote trainee growth before, during and after scientific meetings, taking the initiatives implemented by the Canadian Society for Immunology (CSI) as an example. A foremost action was the establishment of the Trainee Engagement Committee (TEC) in 2020. The TEC members contribute to the annual symposia by participating in the local organizing committee meetings and organizing trainee‐directed events. We propose actions that conference organizers can take to foster the development of the next generation of scientists. In addition, we offer advice to conference presenters on how to craft talks with trainees in mind and to attendees on how to maximize the quality and longevity of conference interactions. This is a symposium on Thinking and Perceiving, a single authored monograph that argues that thought not only affects sensory perception, but sometimes improves it, and sometimes to the point of epistemic virtue. The case for these claims is empirically grounded, with special emphasis on studies on perceptual expertise. The symposium includes an introduction by the author, and three critical commentaries, concluding with a reply by the author. The discussion is wide ranging, including: attention, cognitive penetrability or perception, the modularity of mind; computational analyses of mind, imagination, imaginative skill and expertise; theory-ladenness of perception; objectivity; perceptual content and perceptual success. Purpose Each year, roughly 5,000 residents conduct research on clinical and practice-based topics to meet the requirements of the ASHP residency standards related to research and project management. Several investigators have evaluated residency research project publication rates, but redundancy among projects has not been evaluated. The primary objective of this study was to determine the rate of redundancy among pharmacy residency research projects. Methods This was a retrospective cohort analysis of abstracts accepted to various regional pharmacy residency conferences from 2017 through 2020. Each abstract was placed in a pharmacy domain by therapeutic area. The categorized data for each year were then further evaluated to identify clinical categories for the year. Topics were labeled as redundant if at least 10 projects fell into the same focus area within a clinical category. Descriptive statistics were used to quantify the incidence of redundancy each year. Results A total of 4,027 abstracts were included. The most common pharmacy domains were infectious disease, internal medicine, and benefit of pharmacy services. Overall, 8.2% projects (332 of 4,027) were categorized as redundant. The most common focus areas were rapid diagnostics, opioid reduction protocols, and vancomycin area-under-the-curve vs trough monitoring. Conclusion Pharmacy residency research projects encompassed topics across a wide range of pharmacotherapy areas. Approximately 1 in 12 projects was redundant. This is likely because the project addressed a "hot topic" in practice and may represent an opportunity for institutions to collaborate to optimize project efficiency and impact. In the spring of 2023, the ninth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) took place in Cologne. Though not unexpected (or unusual) this event sparked critical comments and questions. As the organisers, we understand and appreciate this criticism. We, therefore, felt the need to respond to at least some of them, partly because we also asked ourselves many of these questions before, during, and after the conference. At the same time, we want to call for a certain degree of pragmatism when it comes to organising an event this size by providing a look behind the scenes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Precision medicine is data‐driven health care tailored to individual patients based on their unique attributes, including biologic profiles, disease expressions, local environments, and socioeconomic conditions. Emergency medicine (EM) has been peripheral to the precision medicine discourse, lacking both a unified definition of precision medicine and a clear research agenda. We convened a national consensus conference to build a shared mental model and develop a research agenda for precision EM. Methods: We held a conference to (1) define precision EM, (2) develop an evidence‐based research agenda, and (3) identify educational gaps for current and future EM clinicians. Nine preconference workgroups (biomedical ethics, data science, health professions education, health care delivery and access, informatics, omics, population health, sex and gender, and technology and digital tools), comprising 84 individuals, garnered expert opinion, reviewed relevant literature, engaged with patients, and developed key research questions. During the conference, each workgroup shared how they defined precision EM within their domain, presented relevant conceptual frameworks, and engaged a broad set of stakeholders to refine precision EM research questions using a multistage consensus‐building process. Results: A total of 217 individuals participated in this initiative, of whom 115 were conference‐day attendees. Consensus‐building activities yielded a definition of precision EM and key research questions that comprised a new 10‐year precision EM research agenda. The consensus process revealed three themes: (1) preeminence of data, (2) interconnectedness of research questions across domains, and (3) promises and pitfalls of advances in health technology and data science/artificial intelligence. The Health Professions Education Workgroup identified educational gaps in precision EM and discussed a training roadmap for the specialty. Conclusions: A research agenda for precision EM, developed with extensive stakeholder input, recognizes the potential and challenges of precision EM. This paper introduces the notion of learning from contradictions (a.k.a Universum learning) for deep one class classification problems. We formalize this notion for the widely adopted one class large-margin loss (Schölkopf et al. in Neural Comput 13(7):1443–1471), and propose the deep one class classification using contradictions (DOC 3 ) algorithm. We show that learning from contradictions incurs lower generalization error by comparing the empirical Rademacher complexity of DOC 3 against its traditional inductive learning counterpart. Further, our proposed 'learning from contradiction' is a generic learning setting and can compliment other advanced learning settings. To illustrate this, we extend the adversarial learning based DROCC-LF (Goyal et al. in International conference on machine learning, PMLR, 2020) algorithm under this new setting. Our empirical results demonstrate the efficacy of DOC 3 and it's extensions compared to popular baseline algorithms on several benchmark and real-life data sets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this roundtable, four contemporary artists reflect on the way their practices intersect the theme of the refusal of unpayable debt. Topics include: resistance to the punitive debts imposed on "developing" countries, with a focus on Sudan; financial speculation on the future of urban youth in Nigeria; the role of the weird in a critique of dominant modes of financialization; and the politics that accrue in the abeyance between debts and their impossible reconciliation. The 2024 ASCO Genitourinary Cancer Symposium, this year celebrating the 20th anniversary, delved into key advancements in urothelial carcinoma (UC) and prostate cancer (PC). For UC, insights emerged from adjuvant pembrolizumab for muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma, and from the efficacy of the EV-302 study of enfortumab vedotin +pembrolizumab in the metastatic setting. In PC, adjuvant therapy with high-dose radiotherapy schedules plus long-t erm ADT was explored. In metastatic castration-resistant PC, highlights included a novel combo (cabozantinib+atezolizumab) for poor prognosis patients; confirmed benefits of ARSI+PARPi in BRCA-mutated patients; and safety considerations for ARSI treatments. In this article, we report the breakthrough acquisitions for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) management presented at the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Genitourinary Cancers Symposium. The results from Keynote 564 showed an impressive overall survival (OS) advantage for pembrolizumab, in patients at higher risk of relapse after surgery and confirmed the benefit in terms of disease-free survival (DFS). Until now, pembrolizumab is the only immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) to prove a survival advantage. On the contrary, the results from CheckMate 914 trial showed the lack of benefit of adjuvant nivolumab. In the metastatic setting, the longer-term follow-up data of the CheckMate 9ER and CheckMate 214 trials reassessed the undoubtable role of ICI-based combination in first-line treatment, with a clear survival advantage in the subgroup of patients at intermediate/poor IMDC prognosis. No OS advantage was seen in favorable IMDC risk group patients. This 2024 ASCO Genitourinary Cancer Symposium laid the foundations for further knowledge development necessary for an increasingly personalized therapy for RCC patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the personal fouls that were called against a historically black college and university (HBCU) that athletically participates in a conference which is comprised of predominantly white institutions (PWIs). The study introduction provided an overview of Tennessee State University (TSU) as it relates to their involvement in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). The cultural approach to organizations served as the communication-centric theoretical frame while the previous literature on referee bias was reviewed. The criterion of personal fouls per game (PFPG) was examined. Z -score analyses revealed that referees called more PFPG against the HBCU of TSU in men's college basketball relative to the number of PFPG that were called against the PWI conference teams in the OVC. A similar effect was observed in women's college basketball. Theoretical implications for the cultural approach to organizations were noted in the study discussion as were practical implications for TSU and other HBCUs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supramolecular chemistry encompasses critical aspects found throughout the chemical sciences. Despite its ubiquity, the concept of supramolecular chemistry as a defined field of research is relatively young, although its roots run deep. Moving from strength to strength, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s MASC meeting has grown from a local, UK-based conference to a truly international event. The 2023 edition of MASC was held at the University of Birmingham, where nearly 250 participants from across four continents were brought together by their mutual interest in scientific discovery. There are many challenges still facing our community, both scientific and societal. By building on the successes of the past, recognising fantastic achievements in the present, and always looking to what we might accomplish in the future, the global MASC community will continue to flourish for years to come. A Special-purpose Committee on Fungal Names with the Same Epithet was established at the XIX International Botanical Congress (IBC) in Shenzhen, China in 2017, with a mandate to report to the 12th International Mycological Congress (IMC) with recommendations on a preferred course of action with respect to names of pleomorphic fungi sharing the same epithet under the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants. This report provides a synthesis of the deliberations from the Special-purpose Committee. We discuss the arguments for and against the proposed solution to the problems that have arisen regarding the nomenclature of fungi described in multiple morphs using the same epithet. The present article offers an introduction to the Book Review Symposium dedicated to Josephson Storm’s ambitious Metamodernism: The Future of Theory (2021). Inspired by Josephson Storm’s interest in the art scene conversation about method and theory, this preamble incorporates Alan Moore’s reflections from the early 2000s on the necessity to move beyond postmodernism and proceeds to present both the main pillars of Josephson Storm’s theoretical proposal and the key concepts from the commentaries submitted by the participants to this symposium (Mattias Brand, Carmen Becker, Andrea Bardin and Marco Ferrari, and Andrea Maria Nencini). The confusing existence of a preceding, and conflictual, theoretical understanding of metamodernism is also briefly discussed, and its potential impact on the academic disciplines that study religion(s) highlighted. Background Methods Results and Conclusions The management of early breast cancer (BC) has witnessed an uprise in the use of neoadjuvant therapy and a remarkable reshaping of the systemic therapy postneoadjuvant treatment in the last few years, with the evolution of many controversial clinical situations that require consensus.During the 14th Breast‐Gynecological and Immuno‐Oncology International Cancer Conference held in Egypt in 2022, a panel of 44 BC experts from 13 countries voted on statements concerning debatable challenges in the neo/adjuvant treatment setting. The recommendations were subsequently updated based on the most recent data emerging. A modified Delphi approach was used to develop this consensus. A consensus was achieved when ≥75% of voters selected an answer.The consensus recommendations addressed different escalation and de‐escalation strategies in the setting of neoadjuvant therapy for early BC. The recommendations recapitulate the available clinical evidence and expert opinion to individualize patient management and optimize therapy outcomes. In 1971, at the international FID conference in Ottawa, then DGD President Prof Dr Helmut Arntz offered to host the 37th FID conference in Germany in 1974. The planned venue of Berlin became a political issue. Berlin (West) was under the four-power status. Preparations in the Federal Republic were soon in full swing despite warning voices. Due to criticism of the conference venue, alternative solutions such as the geographical separation of the congress – general assembly in Bonn, congress in Berlin – were considered. The 10th International Conference on Serpentine Ecology was held in Nancy, France on 12–16 June, 2023. As a major international scientific forum in the field of serpentine (ultramafic) ecology, this conference brings together botanists, zoologists, microbiologists, physiologists, geneticists, geologists, soil scientists, and other applied specialists studying the ecology of ultramafic rocks and soil. A notable aspect of these meetings is the multidisciplinary nature of research on ultramafic biota, including diversity, ecology, evolution, physiology, and applied research in phytotechnologies and conservation. The main goals of the conference were to create a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences and to promote scientific dialogue among scientists from numerous fields who share expertise in the study of ultramafic habitats worldwide.
