Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, in a short span of 3 years, vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 has resulted in the end of the pandemic. Patients with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are at an increased risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection; however, serious illnesses and mortality, especially in primary antibody deficiencies (PADs), have been lower than expected and lower than other high-risk groups. This suggests that PAD patients may mount a reasonable effective response to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Several studies have been published regarding antibody responses, with contradictory reports. The current study is, perhaps, the most comprehensive study of phenotypically defined various lymphocyte populations in PAD patients following the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. In this study, we examined, following two vaccinations and, in a few cases, prior to and following the 1st and 2nd vaccinations, subsets of CD4 and CD8 T cells (Naïve, TCM, TEM, TEMRA), T follicular helper cells (TFH1, TFH2, TFH17, TFH1/17), B cells (naïve, transitional, marginal zone, germinal center, IgM memory, switched memory, plasmablasts, CD21low), regulatory lymphocytes (CD4Treg, CD8Treg, TFR, Breg), and SARS-CoV-2-specific activation of CD4 T cells and CD8 T cells (CD69, CD137), SARS-CoV-2 tetramer-positive CD8 T cells, and CD8 CTL. Our data show significant alterations in various B cell subsets including Breg, whereas only a few subsets of various T cells revealed alterations. These data suggest that large proportions of PAD patients may mount significant responses to the vaccine.

Vaccines are one component to the public health strategies to alleviate the COVID-19 pandemic. Hesitancy regarding COVID-19 vaccines in the United States has been problematic, which is not surprising given increasing overall vaccine hesitancy in recent decades. Most vaccines are administered during childhood years. Consequently, understanding hesitancy toward administration of vaccines in this age group may provide insight into possible interventions to reduce vaccine hesitancy. The present study analyzed a subset of over 130,000 public comments posted in response to a notice of meeting of the vaccine advisory group to the Food and Drug Administration. The meeting addressed whether to recommend Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. The results of the study demonstrate that most comments opposed EUA and these comments were associated with statements that indicated misperceptions of risk. Findings provide interesting insights regarding the role of public comments generally but also suggest that the public participation process in notice and comment can be modified to serve as an intervention to align individual perceptions of risk more closely with evidence-based assessment of risk. In addition, the findings provide opportunities to consider strategies for public health messaging.

Background: The effects of COVID‐19 vaccines on immunocompromised people such as hemodialysis (HD) patients are an important topic that should be addressed. This study reports an observation of the effect of the third dose of the Sinopharm vaccine (SphV3) on the level of hepatitis B surface antibody (anti‐HBs) in HD patients, and the differences between anti‐HBs titers before and after SphV3 were analytically evaluated. Methods: This single‐center observational study involved all HD patients presented to Shariati Hospital, Tehran, Iran, from February 2021 to March 2022. All patients received three doses of the Sinopharm vaccine over 8 months. The anti‐HBs level is measured every 6 months as the routine evaluation against HBV infection for all HD patients. Three months before (anti‐HBs‐B3) and 3 months after (anti‐HBs‐A3) SphV3 were the routine times to measure the anti‐HBs titer during this study. Results: Twenty‐five HD patients were enrolled. Overall, the anti‐HBs‐A3 was significantly higher than anti‐HBs‐B3 (p = 0.001). The anti‐HBs levels before and after SphV3 were not statistically remarkable in patients with diabetes and ischemic heart disease. The patients with a history of kidney transplant and those with a history of COVID‐19 had significant differences between anti‐HBs‐B3 and anti‐HBs‐A3 (p = 0.002, p = 0.003, respectively). Conclusion: Our findings revealed that inactivated COVID‐19 vaccine may be involved in the humoral immune response to hepatitis B in HD patients. With the global introduction and widespread administration of COVID-19 vaccines, there have been emerging reports of associated vasculitis, including leukocytoclastic cutaneous vasculitis (LCV). In this paper, we present a case of a 68-year-old female patient who developed painful purpuric skin lesions on her feet 12 days after administration of the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine BBIBP Cor-V with histopathological confirmation of LCV and no signs of systemic involvement. The case is followed by a comprehensive literature review of documented LCV cases associated with COVID-19 vaccination with overall 39 articles and 48 cases of LCV found in total. In the majority of cases (56.3%) the first symptom occurred after the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with symptoms manifesting within an average of seven days (6.8 ± 4.8) post-vaccination. The adenoviral vaccine Oxford-AstraZeneca (41.7%) and the mRNA vaccine Pfizer-BioNTech (27.1%) were most frequently associated with LCV occurrences. On average, LCV resolved within 2.5 (± 1.5) weeks. The preferred treatment modality were glucocorticoids, used in 70.8% of cases, resulting in a positive outcome in most cases, including our patient. While the safety of a subsequent dose appears favorable based on our review, individual risk–benefit assessment is crucial. This review emphasis the importance of considering COVID-19 vaccination as a potential trigger for the development of cutaneous vasculitis. The current study aimed to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 booster vaccine on menstrual cycle characteristics in adolescent girls (aged 13–20) compared to those who did not receive a booster vaccine. This prospective study measured menstrual cycle length for three cycles prior to and four cycles after vaccination (booster group), seven cycles without vaccination (control group). Menstrual flow, menstrual pain, and menstrual symptoms were assessed at baseline and monthly for 3 months. Stress was assessed at baseline using the PROMIS Pediatric Psychological Stress Experiences scale. Generalized linear mixed effects models were used to examine the changes in menstrual characteristics. 65 adolescent girls (47 booster; 18 control) were recruited via social media and from ongoing studies in the United States. Girls in the booster group experienced shorter postbooster cycles by an average 5.35 days (p =.03) compared to prebooster cycle lengths, specifically in the second postbooster cycle, while the control group did not show any changes in cycle length pre-to postbooster. Participants who received the booster in the follicular phase had shorter mean postbooster cycle length (p =.0157) compared to their prebooster cycle length. Higher stress was associated with shorter cycles (p =.03) and increased menstrual symptoms (p = <.001), regardless of group. There were no differences in menstrual flow, menstrual pain, or menstrual symptoms in either group. The COVID-19 booster vaccine was associated with shorter cycles in adolescent girls. There are concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine's safety, reliability, and efficacy. Previous studies on vaccine hesitancy focused on public perception and factors influencing behavior but little is known about how government response affects acceptance and distribution efforts. Consequently, the present study is focused on providing answers to the question regarding the challenges induced by the Nigerian governments' response to the COVID-19 vaccine distribution and acceptance process. Utilizing an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), Findings showed that even though there are strategies designed to ensure effective rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines to the target populations, the plans are not well laid out. Corruption risks and facility deficiency are the likely problems that might affect efficient COVID-19 vaccine equitable distribution to the target groups. The findings' practical implications indicate that the Nigerian government and other stakeholders ought to make improvements in a number of areas to enable a successful and equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. This entails enhancing the online registration process, enhancing communication techniques, tackling corruption threats, assuring a steady supply of electricity, and providing employees with the necessary tools and training. Background: Several vaccines were introduced in Tanzania to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. While studies have explored the acceptability and hesitancy of COVID-19 vaccines within the general population, there is limited research focusing on the confidence and associated factors among People Living with HIV (PLHIV). This study aims to fill that gap by investigating vaccine confidence and its determinants in this demographic group. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in centres for care and treatment in four regions of mainland Tanzania using structured questionnaires. A generalized linear mixed model was fitted to determine the factors associated with confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine. Results: A total of 1,100 participants were interviewed; 761 (69.2%) were female. The mean age and standard deviation were 41.6 ±12.1 years. The overall level of confidence in COVID-19 vaccines was 55.3%. Females were less likely to express confidence compared to males (aOR = 0.77; 95% CI: 0.72–0.84). Participants with primary (aOR = 1.79; 95% CI: 1.65–1.94), secondary (aOR = 1.81; 95% CI: 1.57–2.09), and university-level education (aOR = 2.14; 95% CI: 0.17–26.54) were more likely to report confidence in COVID-19 vaccines. Attending a dispensary-level health facility (aOR = 1.32; 95% CI: 1.27–1.38) and living in rural areas (aOR = 1.43; 95% CI: 1.23–1.66) were significantly associated with confidence in COVID-19 vaccines. Conclusion: Although COVID-19 is no longer a global public threat, these findings highlight the significance of being prepared in public health and the necessity of continuous efforts to comprehend and enhance vaccine acceptance and confidence among people living with HIV. By tackling the factors that impact vaccine attitudes in this group, we can improve our preparedness for future public health challenges where vaccine uptake may once again become crucial. Lipschütz ulcer (LU) is a condition known for painful vulvar ulcers, typically affecting young women and often linked to infectious agents. Recent reports have indicated a potential connection between LU and COVID‐19 vaccination, particularly after the second or booster doses. This study presents a case of LU following the first dose of tozinameran in a young woman who had a previous SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and investigates similar cases globally. An 18‐year‐old woman experienced vulvar pain and ulcers 2‐days after her initial COVID‐19 vaccine dose. After ruling out infections through serological tests, a diagnosis of LU was made, and her symptoms resolved after 10 days. A literature search and VigiBase® analysis revealed 11 cases of LU following COVID‐19 vaccination, and 519 vulvovaginal ulcer cases associated with these vaccines were identified in Vigibase®, with a median onset of 2 days. Most LU cases occurred after the second dose or booster shots. The primary hypothesis for this association is a type 3 hypersensitivity reaction mediated by immune complexes, possibly triggered by prior exposure, as many cases occurred after the second dose. Interestingly, the presented case suggests that prior COVID‐19 infection could serve as sensitization. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential occurrence of LU after the initial COVID‐19 vaccine dose in young patients with prior COVID‐19 infection. While the risk of recurrence after subsequent vaccinations or infections remains uncertain, the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks. The COVID‐19 pandemic laid bare pre‐existing societal fault lines, placing immense strain on intergroup relations and giving rise to xenophobic sentiments. Drawing on Realistic Conflict Theory (RCT) and Social Identity Approach (SIA), our study examined how the public allocation of COVID‐19 variant vaccines could influence the dynamics between local citizens and migrant workers, and under what conditions. One key idea is that valued resource distribution that favour migrant workers may produce increased perceptions of realistic threats among local citizens which could lead to exacerbated negative attitudes and behaviours of high‐status local citizens towards low‐status migrants, whereas higher fairness perceptions of such resource distributions could potentially mitigate these negative attitudes and behaviours. To investigate these predictions, we employed a cross‐cultural approach and conducted an experiment in both an Asian country (Malaysia; N = 197) and a Western country (Australia; N = 210). We manipulated vaccine prioritisation, assessed local citizens' perceptions of the realistic threat and fairness of vaccine prioritisation, and measured their attitudinal responses towards migrant workers. Our results showed that the perceived unfairness in migrant‐favouring vaccine prioritisation, rather than realistic threat, negatively affected local citizens' perceptions of the migrant workers. We report the case of a 24-year-old previously healthy man who presented with an unusual combination of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated optic neuritis (MOG-ON) and Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). Initially experiencing two episodes of painless visual acuity reduction, the patient responded well to glucocorticoid therapy, coinciding with an MOG antibody titre of 1:32. However, a subsequent third episode of painless vision loss did not improve with continued glucocorticoid treatment. Further diagnostic workup revealed a mitochondrial DNA mutation (11778 G>A), confirming the diagnosis of LHON. This unique presentation highlights the necessity of considering multiple aetiologies in cases of optic neuropathy where the cause is not immediately apparent, especially when the response to standard treatments is inconsistent. Our findings suggest that dual pathologies may coexist and should be considered in unexplained cases of optic neuropathy to facilitate appropriate clinical management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The continued emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants necessitates updating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines to match circulating strains. The immunogenicity and efficacy of these vaccines must be tested in pre-clinical animal models. In Syrian hamsters, we measured the humoral and cellular immune response after immunization with the nanoparticle recombinant Spike (S) protein-based COVID-19 vaccine (Novavax, Inc.). We also compared the efficacy of the updated monovalent XBB.1.5 variant vaccine with previous COVID-19 vaccines for the induction of XBB.1.5 and EG.5.1 neutralizing antibodies and protection against a challenge with the EG.5.1 variant of SARS-CoV-2. Immunization induced high levels of S-specific IgG and IgA antibody-secreting cells and antigen-specific CD4+ T cells. The XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16 vaccines, but not the Prototype vaccine, induced high levels of neutralizing antibodies against the XBB.1.5, EG.5.1, and JN.1 variants of SARS-CoV-2. Upon challenge with the Omicron EG.5.1 variant, the XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16 vaccines reduced the virus load in the lungs, nasal turbinates, trachea, and nasal washes. The bivalent vaccine (Prototype rS + BA.5 rS) continued to offer protection in the trachea and lungs, but protection was reduced in the upper airways. By contrast, the monovalent Prototype vaccine no longer offered good protection, and breakthrough infections were observed in all animals and tissues. Thus, based on these study results, the protein-based XBB.1.5 vaccine is immunogenic and increased the breadth of protection against the Omicron EG.5.1 variant in the Syrian hamster model. In this narrative review, we assess the pathophysiology of severe adverse events that presented after vaccination with DNA and mRNA vaccines against COVID‐19. The focus is on the perspective of an undersulfated and degraded glycocalyx, considering its impact on immunomodulation, inflammatory responses, coagulation and oxidative stress. The paper explores various factors that lead to glutathione and inorganic sulfate depletion and their subsequent effect on glycocalyx sulfation and other metabolites, including hormones. Components of COVID‐19 vaccines, such as DNA and mRNA material, spike protein antigen and lipid nanoparticles, are involved in possible cytotoxic effects. The common thread connecting these adverse events is endotheliopathy or glycocalyx degradation, caused by depleted glutathione and inorganic sulfate levels, shear stress from circulating nanoparticles, aggregation and formation of protein coronas; leading to imbalanced immune responses and chronic release of pro‐inflammatory cytokines, ultimately resulting in oxidative stress and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. This study aimed to investigate the attention given to scientific outputs about COVID-19 vaccines worldwide on social media. It utilized scientometrics and altmetrics indicators. A dataset with 12,364 works indexed in the WOS database from 2020 to 2022 was analyzed. Altmetric Scores (AS) and Altmetrics were extracted from Altmetric Explorer. Data analysis was performed using Access, Excel, and SPSS software. The retrieved articles garnered attention on 13 social media platforms. The highest amount of social attention, accounting for 97% of the total, was related to X (Twitter) and Mendeley. The highest AS (43,765) was for an open-access article entitled "Covid-19: Researcher blows the whistle on data integrity issues in Pfizer's vaccine trial: Video 1" in the BMJ cited in 14 social media. The most productive countries in COVID-19 vaccine research were the USA, England, and China, while Harvard University, the University of London, and the University of California emerged as the most active research institutes. The findings confirmed a significant, moderate, and positive correlation between the AS and most Altmetrics with the number of citations. Additionally, a positive, substantial, and moderate correlation was observed between citations, the AS of highly-cited papers, and the AS of hot documents. Considering the positive impact of social media on increasing the chance of receiving more citations for articles and improving the impact range of articles from academic users to social users, the activities of researchers in social media are effective in increasing the visibility of scientific works. Aim: The effect of COVID‐19 vaccine given during pregnancy on premature infants is unknown. This study aims to determine the association between maternal COVID‐19 vaccine with postnatal outcome in premature infants. Methods: This is a single‐centre retrospective case–control study of infants born before 35 weeks gestation to mothers who received SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccine during pregnancy compared with infant born to non‐vaccinated mothers. Results: A total of 78 infants in each group were included. Infants in the vaccinated group had less respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) (p = 0.02) and less need for respiratory support (p = 0.002), and maternal vaccine had a protective effect on RDS [adjustable OR 0.38 (0.17–0.85)]. Vaccination during the first compared to the second trimester was associated with earlier gestational age (32.3 ± 2.1 vs. 33.3 ± 1.1 weeks, p = 0.03). Conclusion: We demonstrated that maternal SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccine is not associated with postnatal adverse effect in premature infants and potentially has a protective effect on RDS. Earlier gestational age among the infants born to mothers who received COVID‐19 vaccine during the first trimester did not translate to higher rate of postnatal complications. These findings might suggest that COVID‐19 vaccine is safe in high‐risk pregnancies, but timing of administration should be considered. Aim: To explore the attitudes of healthcare workers towards COVID‐19 vaccines. Design: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Methods: Five focus groups were conducted between October and November 2021, with a total of 30 nurses from different contexts in Northern Italy. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the transcripts. Results: Three main themes were identified: 'favourable', 'unsure' and 'contrary to' COVID‐19 vaccines. The favourable position was underpinned by trust in science, research and vaccination; protection for themselves, their families, patients and the population; duty as professionals; necessity to set an example for others. Participants who were unsure had doubts about the composition, safety and efficacy of the vaccine and were sometimes afraid that media provided incomplete information. The main reason why nurses were against was the feeling that being forced to vaccinate perceived as blackmail. Favourable or unsure nurses struggled to deal with those who were against and developed a series of emotions that ranged from respect and attempt to rationalize, to frustration and defeat. Conclusions: Identifying the areas of hesitation is essential to understand what affects the choices of acceptance, delay or refusal of vaccination. The issues that emerged regarding proper communication within the vaccination campaign highlights the key importance of adequate vaccination strategies. Implication for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Understanding attitudes towards vaccine and related motivations among healthcare workers could help develop more specific and targeted vaccination campaigns that can ensure proper vaccination coverage rates and avoid hesitancy or refusal. People are becoming more reliant on social media networks to express their opinions about various topics and obtain health information. The study is intended to explore and analyse the sentiments of Indian people related to Covid-19 vaccines as well as to visualise the top most frequently occurring terms individuals have used to communicate their ideas on Twitter about Covid-19 vaccines in India. The Tweet Archiver was used to retrieve the Tweets against 'Covid19vaccine' and 'Coronavirusvaccine' hashtags for the period of 2 months 18 days (4 January 2021–22 March 2021). After collecting data, the Orange software and VOSviewer were used for further analysis. The Tweets were posted across the country, with an immense contribution from Maharashtra (223, 15.58%), followed by Delhi (220, 15.37%) and Tamil Nadu (73, 5.10%). The majority (639, 44.65%) of the Tweets reflect positive sentiments, followed by neutral (521, 38.50%) and negative (241, 16.84%) sentiments, respectively. This signifies that most Twitter users have a favourable opinion towards Covid vaccines in India. Based on the relevance score of the words, the words 'Delhi heart', 'Lung institute', 'Gift', 'Unite2fightcorona', and 'Covid-19 Vaccine' are the leading words appearing in Tweets. The study illustrates the sentiments of the Indian people towards 'Covid-19 vaccines', gains some insights into overall public communication about the topic and complements the existing literature. It can assist health policymakers and administrators in better understanding the polarity (positive, negative, and neutral) of Tweets about Covid-19 vaccines on Twitter to raise public awareness about health concerns and misinformation about the vaccine. Objective: This study aims to investigate the influence of coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination on hospital outcomes among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: A total of 324 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 were evaluated retrospectively. Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were matched 1:1 by the propensity score matching method to individuals without diabetes for age and gender. After matching, we analyzed 70 patients with T2DM and 70 without diabetes. Results: Individuals with T2DM exhibited a slightly higher vaccination rate than those without diabetes (67.1% vs. 54.3%, P = .119). Regardless of diabetes status, vaccinated participants experienced significantly lower rates of intensive care unit (ICU) admission (T2DM: 14.9% vs. 60.9%, P = .001; nondiabetics: 5.3% vs. 37.5%, P = .001) and fatality (T2DM: 2.1% vs. 60.9%, P = .001; non-diabetics: 0% vs. 46.9%, P = .001) compared to the unvaccinated group. The length of hospitalization and ICU admission rate were insignificantly higher in vaccinated individuals with T2DM than those without diabetes (9.0 days vs. 7.0 days, P = .154; 14.9% vs. 5.3%, P = .179). Multivariate logistic regression in T2DM patients revealed that CoronaVac vaccination significantly reduced ICU admission (OR: 0.089, 95% CI 0.022-0.360, P = .001), while male gender increased the risk (OR: 6.59, 95% CI 1.545-28.11, P = .011). Conclusion: In vaccinated individuals with T2DM, the risk of severe COVID-19 and fatality significantly decreased, similar to individuals without diabetes. Background: The appearance of severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) initiated the COVID‐19 pandemic, resulting in millions of confirmed cases and numerous fatalities. In response, rapid vaccine development efforts were launched to mitigate the pandemic's impact. Despite the high efficacy of COVID‐19 vaccines, they are also associated with several common side effects/complications, some of them specific to the multiple sclerosis population. Our goal is to review various types of COVID‐19 vaccines, assessing their efficacy, adverse events, their association with an MS relapse following vaccination, and the influence of disease modifying therapies (DMTs) on vaccines' efficacy. Methods: The review was based on a database search that included PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus, and the Web of Science conducted from January 2020 to July 2024 using the following MeSH terms: MS, COVID‐19, COVID‐19 vaccination, vaccine side effects, and vaccine hesitancy. Results: Receiving any type of COVID‐19 vaccine is a safer and more reliable approach to building immunity compared to becoming infected with the virus. Complications tend to be mild to moderate, occasionally severe. DMTs could affect the humoral response to the COVID‐19 vaccine. Among all DMTs, a notable reduction in the humoral response has been observed in patients who received anti‐CD20 and sphingosine‐1‐phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator drugs after their COVID‐19 vaccination. Background: The SARS-CoV-2 virus continuously acquires mutations, leading to the emergence of new variants. Notably, the effectiveness of global vaccination efforts has significantly declined with the rise and spread of the B.1.1.529 (Omicron) variant. Methods: The study used virological, immunological and histological research methods, as well as methods of working with laboratory animals. In this study, we evaluated the Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V), an adenoviral vaccine developed by the N.F. Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, and conducted experiments on hemizygous K18-ACE2-transgenic F1 mice. The variants studied included B.1.1.1, B.1.1.7, B.1.351, B.1.1.28/P.1, B.1.617.2, and B.1.1.529 BA.5. Results: Our findings demonstrate that the Sputnik V vaccine elicits a robust humoral and cellular immune response, effectively protecting vaccinated animals from challenges posed by various SARS-CoV-2 variants. However, we observed a notable reduction in vaccine efficacy against the B.1.1.529 (Omicron BA.5) variant. Conclusions: Our results indicate that ongoing monitoring of emerging mutations is crucial to assess vaccine efficacy against new SARS-CoV-2 variants to identify those with pandemic potential. The innate and adaptive immune systems collaborate to detect SARS-CoV-2 infection, minimize the viral spread, and kill infected cells, ultimately leading to the resolution of the infection. The adaptive immune system develops a memory of previous encounters with the virus, providing enhanced responses when rechallenged by the same pathogen. Such immunological memory is the basis of vaccine function. Here, we review the current knowledge on the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination, focusing on the pivotal role of T cells in establishing protective immunity against the virus. After providing an overview of the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection, we describe the main features of SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, including cross-reactive T cells, generated in patients with different degrees of COVID-19 severity, and of Spike-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells induced by vaccines. Finally, we discuss T-cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 variants and hybrid immunity and conclude by highlighting possible strategies to improve the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination. While approved vaccines for COVID-19 provide protection against severe disease and death, they have limited efficacy in the prevention of infection and virus transmission. Mucosal immunity is preferred over systemic immunity to provide protection at the point of entry against pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. VaxForm has developed an oral vaccine delivery platform that elicits mucosal and systemic immune responses by targeting immune cells in the gut through C-type lectin receptors. The technology consists of microencapsulating the vaccine with an enteric polymer, which also results in enhanced thermostability. This article describes the formulation development and in vivo testing of a novel protein-based oral COVID-19 vaccine using this technology. Results demonstrate successful induction of immune response in mice and showed that the particle size of the vaccines following administration can impact the ratio of mucosal to systemic response. Immunogenicity and thermostability of liquid suspension and dry powder versions of the vaccine were compared in mice. The liquid suspension vaccine showed excellent heat resistance by maintaining immunogenicity after 14 days of storage at 60 °C. While further investigation is needed to determine correlates of protection and duration of response for mucosal immunity, this study demonstrates the vaccine's potential as a COVID-19 booster to enhance mucosal protection in humans and improve global access by lowering the cost of production, removing cold-chain requirements, and allowing self-administration. Background: People with Substance Use Disorder have higher adverse outcomes associated with COVID-19 infection that can be reduced with COVID-19 vaccines. Various factors influence the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccines. We assessed COVID-19 vaccine-related knowledge, attitude, and beliefs in patients on Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) from a community clinic in an urban impoverished area in Delhi, India. Methods: Cross-sectional design. We interviewed 200 adult males using a structured questionnaire. Results: The participants' mean age was 27.4 (SD 6.8) years; majority (68%, n = 136) had less than 10 years of schooling. While family members of 77% (n = 154) of the participants were vaccinated for COVID-19, only 32% (n = 64) of the participants had been vaccinated with at least a single dose. 43% (n = 86) felt they are ineligible for vaccine due to their addiction or their ongoing addiction treatment (46.5%, n = 93). Though the majority (78.5%, n = 157) were willing to get vaccinated, they had not done so due to concerns, such as fear of vaccine-related adverse-effects (35%). Conclusions: COVID-19 vaccination rates in individuals with opioid dependence are much lower compared to the general population. Introduction: A clear immune correlate of protection from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has not been defined. We explored antibody, B-cell, and T-cell responses to the third-dose vaccine and relationship to incident SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: Adults in a prospective cohort provided blood samples at day 0, day 14, and 10 months after the third-dose SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Participants self- reported incident SARS-CoV-2 infection. Plasma anti-SARS-CoV-2 receptor- binding domain (RBD) and spike-subunit-1 and spike-subunit-2 antibodies were measured. A sub-study assessed SARS-CoV-2-specific plasma and memory B- cell and memory T-cell responses in peripheral blood mononuclear cells by enzyme-linked immunospot. Comparative analysis between participants who developed incident infection and uninfected participants utilised non-parametric t-tests, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, and Cox proportional hazard ratios. Results: Of the 132 participants, 47 (36%) reported incident SARS-CoV-2 infection at a median 16.5 (16.25-21) weeks after the third-dose vaccination. RBD titres and B-cell responses, but not T-cell responses, increased after the third-dose vaccine. Whereas no significant difference in day 14 antibody titres or T-cell responses was observed between participants with and without incident SARS-CoV-2 infection, RBD memory B-cell frequencies were significantly higher in those who did not develop infection [10.0% (4.5%-16.0%) versus 4.9% (1.6%- 9.3%), p = 0.01]. RBD titres and memory B-cell frequencies remained significantly higher at 10 months than day 0 levels (p < 0.01). Discussion: Robust antibody and B-cell responses persisted at 10 months following the third-dose vaccination. Higher memory B-cell frequencies, rather than antibody titres or T-cell responses, predicted protection from subsequent infection, identifying memory B cells as a correlate of protection. Background: COVID-19 vaccine uptake among individuals with disabilities is crucial for safeguarding their health and well-being. However, the extent of vaccine uptake among this group remains largely unknown in low- and middle-income countries. This study aims to assess the COVID-19 vaccine uptake among persons with functional difficulty, disability and/or comorbidity in Bangladesh and their associated factors. Methods: Data from 9,370 respondents extracted from the 2021 National Household Survey on Persons with Disability were analysed. The outcome variable was the uptake of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (yes, no). Key explanatory variables included the presence of disability (yes, no), comorbidity (yes, no), and both comorbidity and disability (yes, no) among persons with functional difficulty. The relationship between the outcome and explanatory variables was determined using mixed-effects multilevel logistic regressions adjusted for covariates. Results: The overall uptake of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine among persons with functional difficulty was 57.37%, among persons with functional difficulty and disability was 48.63% and among persons with functional difficulty and single (57.85%) or multi-comorbidity (60.37%). Compared to the respondents with functional difficulty only, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of not receiving any dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for individuals with both functional difficulty and disability was 1.37 (95% CI, 1.22–1.53), and for individuals with functional difficulty, disability and one or more comorbid conditions was 1.30 (95% CI, 1.15–1.47). The aOR of receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine among individuals with functional difficulty and one or more comorbid conditions was significantly higher than among those with functional difficulty only. Conclusion: In Bangladesh, COVID-19 vaccine uptake was relatively low among individuals with disabilities. Background: COVID-19 vaccines are crucial for reducing the threat and burden of the pandemic on global public health, yet the epigenetic, especially RNA editing in response to the vaccines remains unelucidated. Results: Our current study performed an epitranscriptomic analysis of RNA-Seq data of 260 blood samples from 102 healthy and SARS-CoV-2 naïve individuals receiving different doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and revealed dynamic, transcriptome-wide adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing changes in response to COVID-19 vaccines (RNA editing in response to COVID-19 vaccines). 5592 differential RNA editing (DRE) sites in 1820 genes were identified, with most of them showing up-regulated RNA editing and correlated with increased expression of edited genes. These deferentially edited genes were primarily involved in immune- and virus-related gene functions and pathways. Differential ADAR expression probably contributed to RNA editing in response to COVID-19 vaccines. One of the most significant DRE in RNA editing in response to COVID-19 vaccines was in apolipoprotein L6 (APOL6) 3' UTR, which positively correlated with its up-regulated expression. In addition, recoded key antiviral and immune-related proteins such as IFI30 and GBP1 recoded by missense editing was observed as an essential component of RNA editing in response to COVID-19 vaccines. Furthermore, both RNA editing in response to COVID-19 vaccines and its functions dynamically depended on the number of vaccine doses. Introduction: The Health Belief Model (HBM) has been widely studied, but it is unclear how social media post creators use HBM constructs to influence the public's awareness of health topics, particularly for COVID-19 preventative health behaviors. Moreover, there is limited knowledge about how content creators enhance user engagement with COVID-19 vaccine tweets. Methods: A content analysis of COVID-19 vaccine tweets (n = 362) examined how HBM constructs were used in social media posts and their relationship to content creator characteristics (e.g., race, education level) and user engagement behaviors (e.g., number of favorites). Findings: Content creators' tweets about COVID-19-related topics generally centered on two HBM constructs—benefits and barriers—while fewer tweets emphasized perceived susceptibility or self-efficacy; tweets containing these constructs were retweeted less often. Findings revealed that tweets from politicians, health experts, and white and Asian sources emphasized the perceived benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine. Individual tweets, especially from Black individuals and celebrities, generated more user engagement. Conclusions: Understanding the factors that contribute to social media user engagement with health-related content is important for designing more focused and impactful health communication campaigns and promoting healthier habits and perspectives. Thus, by demonstrating the possible relevance of the HBM to digital communication strategies or health campaigns, our study provides useful guidance for health promoters and policymakers who use social media to raise public health awareness. Background: This study evaluates tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosisinducing ligand (TRAIL) and interferon-g-induced protein-10 (IP-10) in pregnant women with COVID-19 and their newborns, exploring the effects of antiviral treatments and vaccine-induced neutralizing antibody (Nab) inhibition on these key viral infection biomarkers. Methods: We studied 61 pregnant women with past COVID-19 and either three (n=56) or four (n=5) doses of vaccination, and 46 without COVID-19 but vaccinated. We analyzed them and their newborns' blood for TRAIL, IP-10, and Nab levels using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), correlating these with other clinical factors. Results: Our study found lower TRAIL but higher IP-10 levels in maternal blood than neonatal cord blood, irrespective of past COVID-19 diagnosis. Cases diagnosed with COVID-19 < 4 weeks previously had higher maternal blood TRAIL levels (16.49 vs. 40.81 pg/mL, p=0.0064) and IP-10 (154.68 vs. 225.81 pg/mL, p=0.0170) than those never diagnosed. Antiviral medication lowered TRAIL and IP-10 in maternal blood without affecting Nab inhibition (TRAIL: 19.24 vs. 54.53 pg/mL, p=0.028; IP-10: 158.36 vs. 255.47 pg/mL, p=0.0089). TRAIL and IP-10 levels were similar with three or four vaccine doses, but four doses increased Nab inhibition (p=0.0363). Previously COVID-19 exposed pregnant women had higher Nab inhibition (p < 0.0001). No obvious correlation was found among TRAIL, IP-10, and Nab inhibition level. Conclusions: Our study suggests that lower maternal TRAIL and higher IP-10 levels compared to neonatal cord blood coupled with a rise in both markers following COVID-19 diagnosis that could be reduced by antivirals indicates a correlation to infection severity. Higher vaccine doses enhance Nab inhibition, irrespective of antiviral medication use and independent of TRAIL or IP-10 levels, highlighting the significance and safety of adequate vaccination and antiviral use post-diagnosis in pregnant women. Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID–19) has been associated with adverse effects and death among people with low immunity, including pregnant women. Despite introducing the vaccine as the proper means to curb the spread of the pandemic, vaccine uptake is still low. This study assessed the influence of perception, attitude, and trust toward COVID-19 vaccine uptake among pregnant women attending Antenatal Care Clinics. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used, utilizing a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional analytical design conducted in Mbeya urban, distribution of sample size during data collection based on client's volume at three government health facilities (one tertiary health facility, one secondary health facility, and one primary health facility) in Mbeya Urban, Tanzania. Data were collected from 333 pregnant women who attended ANC during the data collection period using a questionnaire with closed-ended questions administered to respondents face-to-face. Data cleaning and analysis were done using Excel and Stata/SE 14.1 software for bivariate and multivariate data; Pearson's chi-squire and Fisher's test were used to analyze the independent determinants of COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Results: The proportion of pregnant women vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine was 27%. There was a statistically significant association between the respondents' vaccine uptake with primary education and < 5 work experience to vaccine uptake P = 0.015 (AOR = 6.58; 95% CI; 1.45–29.85), and P = 0.046 (AOR = 2.45; 95% CI; 1.02–5.89) respectively. The association of attitude influence to COVID-19 vaccine uptake was statistically significant (acceptance of vaccine due to its availability, vaccine acceptance for protection against COVID-19 pandemic to respondent and her baby, experience from other vaccines) was statistically significant at P = 0.011 (AOR = 4.43; 95% CI; 1.41–13.93), P = 0.001 (AOR = 45.83; 95% CI; 18.6-112.89) respectively. The level of trust in the COVID-19 vaccine influenced respondents' association with vaccine uptake in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy (P = 0.633 (AOR = 1.23; 95% CI; 0.53–2.48), respectively. Conclusion: Pregnant women's positive attitude and trust in the COVID-19 vaccine influenced them to uptake it; our conclusion supports the WHO guidelines that the COVID-19 vaccine should be administered to pregnant women since it is a safer means to curb COVID-19 pregnancy-related complications. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) causes more deaths in older adults than in younger adults. Older adults are a vulnerable group with a high need for coronavirus vaccines to decrease the severity of the disease. The aim of this analytical cross-sectional study was to determine the factors influencing third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance among older adults in northern Thailand. Methods: The study samples were composed of 2,155 older adults living in Kamphaeng Phet Province, northern Thailand. They were randomly selected by multistage random sampling. Data were collected in a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 7 parts: (1) personal factors, (2) knowledge about COVID-19, (3) perceived susceptibility to COVID-19 infection, (4) perceived severity of COVID-19, (5) perceived benefits of the third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose, (6) perceived barriers to the third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose vaccination, and (7) the third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance. Data were analyzed via frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and binary logistic regression. All the significance levels were set to 0.05. Results: The results indicated that only 28.5% of older adults accepted the third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose. The factors influencing third COVID-19 vaccine booster dose acceptance among older adults included 5 variables. The participants aged ≥ 70 years was 1.37 times (95%CI = 1.12–1.69) greater than those aged < 70 years who accepted the vaccine. Participants who were married were more likely to accept the vaccine by 1.39 times (95%CI = 1.09–1.79) compared with single individuals. Those with underlying diseases tended to accept the vaccine by 1.56 times (95%CI = 1.26–1.92) more than those without underlying diseases. Those who had high perceived benefit from the COVID-19 vaccine possibly accepted the vaccine by 1.50 times (95%CI = 1.10–2.04) more than those with low perceived benefit, and those who had a low perceived barrier to the third COVID-19 booster dose vaccination seemed to accept the vaccine by 1.29 times (95%CI = 1.01–1.52) more than those with a high perceived benefit. Conclusion: Older adults should receive health education regarding the perceived benefit of the COVID-19 vaccine and the perceived barrier to COVID-19 vaccination, especially older adults aged < 70 years, those who are single, and those who are free of underlying diseases. The production of vaccines for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has given hope to many countries that they can finally control a pandemic that has already killed millions of people around the world. Nevertheless, vaccine coverage must be wide to ensure the success of the global vaccination initiative. Using theory of planned behaviour (TPB), the current research aimed to assess the intent of the general Saudi Arabian public to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted during the first week of January 2021. A total of 487 participants completed an online questionnaire that assessed their intentions, attitudes, perceived norms and perceived behavioural control. The results showed that almost half of the study participants (47.43%) intended to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. All components of TPB predicted this intention, although perceived behavioural control was a negative predictor. The findings suggest that COVID-19 vaccine campaigns should continue to focus on improving public attitudes and perceived norms, which can help increase the number of people willing to undergo vaccination. Background Uncertainty exists regarding the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine to prevent postacute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) following a breakthrough infection. While most studies based on symptom surveys found an association between preinfection vaccination status and PASC symptoms, studies of medically attended PASC are less common and have reported conflicting findings. Methods In this retrospective cohort of patients with an initial SARS-CoV-2 infection who were continually empaneled for primary care in a large US health system, the electronic health record was queried for preinfection vaccination status, demographics, comorbidity index, and diagnosed conditions. Multivariable logistic regression was used to model the outcome of a medically attended PASC diagnosis within 6 months of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Likelihood ratio tests were used to assess the interaction between vaccination status and prevalent variant at the time of infection and between vaccination status and hospitalization for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results During the observation period, 6.9% of patients experienced medically attended and diagnosed PASC. A diagnosis of PASC was associated with older age, female sex, hospitalization for the initial infection, and an increased severity-weighted comorbidity index and was inversely associated with infection during the Omicron period. No difference in the development of diagnosed PASC was observed between unvaccinated patients and those vaccinated with either 2 doses of an mRNA vaccine or >2 doses. Conclusions We found no association between vaccination status at the time of infection and development of medically diagnosed PASC. The declaration by the World Health Organization and government-initiated actions by different countries for the COVID-19 vaccine have led to the rapid evolution of sentiments on various social media platforms. Real-time data related to vaccination has grown the need to anticipate the changes in vaccine uptake. Using Twitter dataset, the study models different emotions and their associated word. The emotions are majorly classified into hesitancy and willingness for vaccination. The study categorizes the tweets into pre-launch, post-launch, and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Based on comparative analysis, most sentiments were related to hesitancy for vaccination during pre-launch. In post-launch, the majority of sentiments were oriented towards willingness for vaccination. However, during the booster dose, the sentiments were oriented toward happy, adequate, and free emotions. Over the time period, the willingness of the COVID-19 vaccine has improved. The practitioners and policymakers can obtain real-time sentiments based on this approach and strategize the long-term vaccination policy for COVID-19 and other vaccination programs. Objective: Given the limited studies on types of vaccination and infection rates among health care workers (HCWs) in Türkiye, we analyzed the demographic, clinical, and vaccination characteristics as well as the attitudes of HCWs who have been infected with COVID-19. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed demographic and clinical data on breakthrough COVID-19 infections in HCWs from hospital surveillance data collected between April 5, 2020, and November 1, 2022. The comparison was based on four subgroups that consisted of unvaccinated, one-shot-vaccinated, homologous vaccinated, and heterologous vaccinated individuals. Participants who received various combinations of Sinovac/CoronaVac and/or BioNTech/Pfizer vaccines were compared for detection of COVID-19. Results: During a 33-month period of 744 HCWs who contracted COVID-19, women (65.3%) and nurses (28.9%) were the most affected, followed by doctors (25.8%). Of the infected HCWs, only 1.3% required hospitalization, 0.3% required ICU support, and 98.4% were outpatients. By vaccination status, 143 of the HCWs (19.2%) were unvaccinated, 292 (39.2%) were homologously vaccinated, 294 (39.5%) were heterologously vaccinated, 15 (2%) received a single shot, 206 (27.7%) received two shots, and 165 (22.2%) received three shots. All HCWs contracted COVID-19 at a mean of 134- days (range:1-539) after vaccination. While the proportions of homologously and heterologously vaccinated HCWs were similar, the time elapsed from vaccination to contracting COVID-19 varied (mean 143.4±106.7 vs.126.4±82.43 days). Conclusions: Among both outpatients and inpatients with COVID-19, women HCWs outnumbered men HCWs. Background: Lichen planus is one of the common adverse reactions after COVID‐19 infection and vaccination. Despite it being reported in several case reports, the literature including a large sample of the studied population is lacking. The current study was performed to assess the risk of LP after COVID‐19 infection as well as COVID‐19 vaccination. Methods: The current study was designed as a retrospective cross‐sectional hospital‐based study of registered patients at the University of Florida (UF) health centers. The diagnoses of LP, COVID‐19 infection, and COVID‐19 vaccines were detected. The logistic regression model was used to assess the risk of developing LP after COVID‐19 infection and vaccination. Results: A total hospital patient of 684,110 attended UF Health centers were included in this study. 181 patients reported LP after COVID‐19 vaccination and 24 patients developed LP after COVID‐19 infection. The risk of developing LP after COVID‐19 vaccination was 1.573 while the risk of developing LP after COVID‐19 infection was 1.143. Conclusion: The odds of getting LP after COVID‐19 vaccination are significantly developed. The current study showed that COVID‐19 infection and vaccination are associated with LP. This research sought to extend the Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM) by incorporating perceptions of vaccine threat with EPPM variables (threat and efficacy) to predict intention to vaccinate. Three hundred and twenty college students completed a survey measuring health threat (severity and susceptibility), efFicacy (response efficacy and self-efficacy), vaccine threat and intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Results were consistent for all predictions. First, perceived health threat and efficacy positively predicted behavioral intention to vaccinate. Second, perceived vaccination threat negatively predicted behavioral intention to vaccinate. Third, existing EPPM variables positively predicted, and vaccination threat negatively predicted, behavioral intention to vaccinate. Finally, existing EPPM variables and vaccination threat were better predictors of behavioral intention to vaccinate than existing EPPM variables alone. These findings suggest that when promoting vaccination, perceived health threat, efficacy, and vaccination threat should be included in COVID-19 health campaign messaging. The rapid development and authorization of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines by Pfizer‐BioNTech (BNT162b2) and Moderna (mRNA‐1273) in 2020 marked a significant milestone in human mRNA product application, overcoming previous obstacles such as mRNA instability and immunogenicity. This paper reviews the strategic modifications incorporated into these vaccines to enhance mRNA stability and translation efficiency, such as the inclusion of nucleoside modifications and optimized mRNA design elements including the 5′ cap and poly(A) tail. We highlight emerging concerns regarding the wide systemic biodistribution of these mRNA vaccines leading to prolonged inflammatory responses and other safety concerns. The regulatory framework guiding the biodistribution studies is pivotal in assessing the safety profiles of new mRNA formulations in use today. The stability of mRNA vaccines, their pervasive distribution, and the longevity of the encapsulated mRNA along with unlimited production of the damaging and potentially lethal spike (S) protein call for strategies to mitigate potential adverse effects. Here, we explore the potential of small interfering RNA (siRNA) and ribonuclease targeting chimeras (RIBOTACs) as promising solutions to target, inactivate, and degrade residual and persistent vaccine mRNA, thereby potentially preventing uncontrolled S protein production and reducing toxicity. The targeted nature of siRNA and RIBOTACs allows for precise intervention, offering a path to prevent and mitigate adverse events of mRNA‐based therapies. In 2020, the top 10 causes of death among children and adolescents between the ages of 1 and 19 years old included cancer, congenital anomalies, heart disease, and chronic respiratory disease; all these conditions are potentially treatable with medical intervention. However, children exhibit specific physiological and developmental characteristics that can significantly impact drug pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety profile. These factors illustrate the importance of a heightened focus on pediatric drug development. Traditional drugs lack proper circulation, permeability, targeting, accumulation, and release, and they often require dose adjustments or modifications, which can result in suboptimal therapeutic outcomes and increased risks of adverse effects in pediatric patients. Nanomedicines have emerged as efficient drug delivery systems because of their unique properties, which can improve the solubility and stability of drugs by encapsulating them in different forms of nanoparticles. This review discusses the challenges of pediatric therapy, and the current state of nanomedicines for pediatric diseases in terms of Food and Drug Administration‐approved nanomedicines, the types of diseases treated or diagnosed, and preclinical studies that have the potential to be translated to the clinic. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on every individual in the United States. The launch of the COVID-19 vaccines is estimated to have averted millions of deaths and reduced over 18 million COVID-19-related hospitalizations. In September 2023, the updated 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine, which includes a monovalent component that corresponds to the omicron variant XBB.1.5, reflecting the predominant circulating variant at the time of strain selection, was approved and was recommended for use in all people ≥ 6 months of age. Despite this recommendation, the US uptake of the updated COVID-19 vaccines over the 2023–2024 season has been far from optimal, placing many people at unnecessary risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes. This paper provides an overview of the current state of COVID-19 in 2023–2024 and barriers to vaccine uptake. With the continued evolution of the virus, the potential for more virulent variants, reduced public acceptance of vaccination, and the potential barriers that contributed to low vaccine uptake are explored to provide solutions for improving COVID-19 protection for future seasons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, antibody-based vaccines targeting the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein were the focus for development because neutralizing antibodies were associated with protection against the SARS-CoV-2 infection pre-clinically and in humans. While deploying these spike-based vaccines saved millions of lives worldwide, it has become clear that the immunological mechanisms of protection against severe disease are multifaceted and involve non-neutralizing antibody components. Here, we describe a novel pan-sarbecovirus T-cell vaccine, ChAdOx1.COVconsv12, designed to complement and broaden the protection of spike vaccines. The vaccine immunogen COVconsv12 employs the two regions in the viral proteome most conserved among sarbecoviruses, which are delivered by replication-deficient vector ChAdOx1. It directs T cells towards epitopes shared among sarbecoviruses including evolving SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here, we show that ChAdOx1.COVconsv12 induced broad T-cell responses in the BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. In the Syrian hamster challenge model, ChAdOx1.COVconsv12 alone did not protect against the SARS-CoV-2 infection, but when co-administered with 1/50th of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 spike vaccine protective dose, faster recovery and lower oral swab viral load were observed. Induction of CD8+ T cells may decrease COVID-19 severity and extend the T-cell response coverage of variants to match the known (and as yet unknown) members of the β-coronavirus family. Vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been distributed in most countries for the prevention of onset and aggravation of COVID-19. Recently, there have been increasing numbers of reports on new-onset autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases following COVID-19 vaccination, however, only little information is available on the long-term safety of these vaccines. Here, we experienced three cases of new-onset rheumatic diseases following COVID-19 vaccination, one case each of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The symptom onset ranged from one day to a few days following vaccination. The patients of AAV and SLE were treated successfully with glucocorticoid therapy, and the patient of RA died due to COVID-19. In the literature review of new-onset rheumatic diseases following COVID-19 vaccination, which including seven cases of RA, 37 cases of AAV and 18 cases of SLE, the mean time from vaccination to onset was approximately 11 to 12 days. Most cases improved with glucocorticoid, immunosuppressive drugs and biologic agents. Although such adverse effects are rare, and vaccines are useful in prevent onset and severity of infections, continued accumulation of similar cases is important in terms of examining the long-term safety and understanding pathogenic mechanism of rheumatic diseases. Persons with disabilities experience numerous barriers to healthcare access including vaccine accessibility. The purpose of this study was to determine COVID-19 vaccine uptake in the spinal cord injury and disease (SCI/D) population of Ontario and identify potential factors influencing C OVID-19 vaccine uptake. This was a retrospective closed-cohort study using administrative health data on individuals with SCI/D of traumatic and non-traumatic causes to examine the monthly number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received between December 2020 and December 2023. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the potential association between socio-demographic, clinical, and neighbourhood characteristics with initial COVID-19 vaccine receipt and booster dose uptake. By the end of the observation period in December 2023, 82.9% received the full two-dose coverage and 65.6% received at least one additional booster dose in a cohort of 3574 individuals with SCI/D. SCI/D individuals showed a comparable COVID-19 vaccine uptake percentage to the general population. Sociodemographic, clinical, and neighbourhood characteristics were associated with COVID-19 vaccine uptake in the SCI/D population, including age, type of injury, number of comorbidities, mental health history, and neighbourhood characteristics such as income. The most discussed infectious disease is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. Many research endeavors have focused on the effects of the virus on reproductive organs, as these have also been shown to carry the receptors to which the virus attaches. The results of assisted reproductive technology (ART) have been significantly affected by the pandemic, with some in vitro fertilization (IVF) centers being closed due to the risk of further spread of the disease. According to World Health Organization statistics, 17.5% of adults worldwide suffered from fertility problems in 2023; in other words, one in six people in the world have reproductive health problems. As infertility is a growing problem in the modern world and new developments in assisted reproduction are always a topic of profound interest, it is important to understand the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on reproductive health. This systematic review aimed to examine studies describing patients undergoing ART procedures with a COVID-19-positive history and to shed light on the recent evidence on the safety of COVID-19 vaccination in the ART context. A meta-analysis was conducted to confirm the results of the systematic review. The results showed a significant difference in clinical pregnancy rates between the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups and an increased miscarriage rate in those with a COVID-19-positive history. However, no significant difference in clinical pregnancy and birth rates was found in participants with a previous COVID-19 infection. The results show that further studies and research are needed, even though the spread and impact of the virus have decreased. Evidence-based information for individuals and couples undergoing infertility treatment is vital to enable informed decision-making. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maternal vaccination is a safe and effective means of preventing infection in pregnant women, their fetuses, and infants after birth. Several vaccines are routinely administered in pregnancy as a valuable part of prenatal care with supporting recommendations from national and international health organizations. Fears concerning vaccine safety in pregnancy are pervasive despite sufficient available safety data to support their use, leading to underutilization of maternal immunization. Despite this hesitancy, the field of maternal vaccination is evolving to include more vaccines in the routine prenatal vaccination schedule, including the new RSV vaccine. This review discusses the currently recommended vaccines in pregnancy, evidence for their use, and an overview of ongoing clinical trials investigating prospective vaccines for pregnant women. Introduction Understanding of adverse reactions to coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines remains limited. Case presentation Case 1: A 52‐year‐old woman, post‐kidney transplantation, experienced sudden vision loss in her left eye after receiving a second dose of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine. She was diagnosed with ischemic optic neuropathy. Case 2: A 53‐year‐old woman, post‐kidney transplantation, presented with worsening diplopia and left eye pain following the second dose of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine. She was diagnosed with left abducens nerve palsy. Conclusion Vigilance is essential for recognizing the potential for delayed cranial neuropathy in immunocompromised individuals after coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination.

Of several types, genital candidiasis, particularly vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), primarily caused by C. albicans is frequently observed in females of reproductive age. Candidiasis has also become a serious issue in the post-pandemic era, as it occurs as a secondary infection in COVID-19 patients during or after the course of viral illness. Therefore, this study investigated the incidence of C. albicans infections in women of reproductive age, and its relationship with the incidence of COVID-19 and vaccination in Saudi Arabia.Objective: Additionally, this study aimed to determine the awareness of women on candidiasis and its subsequent impact on the occurrence of infection. A survey-based quantitative study was conducted in which primary data were collected from participants using a self-reported questionnaire.Methods: A total of 200 women aged 18– 45 were selected through random sampling. Apart from their sociodemographic characteristics, the history of COVID-19 incidence, COVID-19 vaccination, and candidiasis occurrences among respondents were recorded. Their level of awareness and knowledge of candidiasis, along with their perceptions of strategies for mitigating the risk of incidence, were also evaluated. The collected data were analysed using different statistical tools.Results: The findings of this study revealed a positive correlation between candidiasis, viral infection, and vaccination, regardless of the type and dosage of vaccine administered. Furthermore, both COVID-19 incidence and vaccination had a positive and significant impact on the occurrence of candidiasis among Saudi women.Conclusion: Despite certain limitations, this study has theoretical and managerial implications for improved management of candidiasis in the post-COVID era.Keywords: awareness, candidiasis, COVID-19, COVID-19 vaccine, pandemic, incidence

This study aimed to investigate the attention given to scientific outputs about COVID-19 vaccines worldwide on social media. It utilized scientometrics and altmetrics indicators. A dataset with 12,364 works indexed in the WOS database from 2020 to 2022 was analyzed. Altmetric Scores (AS) and Altmetrics were extracted from Altmetric Explorer. Data analysis was performed using Access, Excel, and SPSS software. The retrieved articles garnered attention on 13 social media platforms. The highest amount of social attention, accounting for 97% of the total, was related to X (Twitter) and Mendeley. The highest AS (43,765) was for an open-access article entitled "Covid-19: Researcher blows the whistle on data integrity issues in Pfizer's vaccine trial: Video 1" in the BMJ cited in 14 social media. The most productive countries in COVID-19 vaccine research were the USA, England, and China, while Harvard University, the University of London, and the University of California emerged as the most active research institutes. The findings confirmed a significant, moderate, and positive correlation between the AS and most Altmetrics with the number of citations. Additionally, a positive, substantial, and moderate correlation was observed between citations, the AS of highly-cited papers, and the AS of hot documents. Considering the positive impact of social media on increasing the chance of receiving more citations for articles and improving the impact range of articles from academic users to social users, the activities of researchers in social media are effective in increasing the visibility of scientific works.

The use of COVID-19 vaccines has been associated with sporadic reports of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia, a complication referred to as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). Early recognition of this entity before the occurrence of thrombosis detected by imaging is termed as a pre-VITT syndrome. Thrombosis has been reported to occur in the cerebral venous system, splanchnic veins as well as arteries to the lower limbs. We present the case of a young renal transplant recipient who presented with VITT following ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (Covishield) vaccination; in this case, thrombosis occurred in the intrarenal arteries of the graft kidney.
