The article provides historical information on the community of Ethiopian monk-scholars in Renaissance Rome who brought their learning, language and liturgy into the Roman Church. Topics discussed include pilgrimages of Ethiopian Christians in search of apostolic saints, Ethiopian-European collaborations in the 16th-century made possible by the establishment of Santo Stefano in Italy, Roman Catholic response to Ethiopian Orthodoxy, and cultural exchange between Europeans and Ethiopian pilgrims.
