We report measurements of the temperature dependence specific heat, magnetic susceptibility in single crystals of the series of intermetallic compounds Tb$_{1-x}$Y$_x$RhIn$_5$ (nominal concentrations $x= 0.15, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50$ and $0.70$). A mean field approximation to simulate the macroscopic properties along the series has been used. Neutron diffraction data in powdered sample of nominal concentration Tb$_{0.6}$Y$_{0.4}$RhIn$_5$ reveal AFM propagation vector $k=[\frac{1}{2}~0~\frac{1}{2}]$ with the magnetic moments oriented close to the tetragonal \textit{c} axis. We discuss the role of combined effects of crystalline electric field (CEF) perturbations and dilution in the magnetic properties evolution with Y content. In particular, we suggest that changes in the Tb-In first neighbors distances, i.e. the TbIn$_3$ cuboctahedra distortion, are responsible for changes in the Tb crystalline potential and the possible reorientation of Tb magnetic moments for $x>$0.4. This reflects non negligible variations of the $B^{m}_{n}$ crystal field parameters and the energy levels splitting with \textit{x}.

The magnetic and electronic properties of Eu2Ru2O7 are discussed in terms of the local ruthenium and europium coordinations, electronic band structure calculations and molecular orbital energy levels. A preliminary electronic structure was calculated within the LDA and LSDA+U approximations. The molecular orbital energy level diagrams have been used to interpret the Eu-Ru ligand spectrum and the ensuing magnetic properties. In this article we review our studies of the K0.80Fe1.76Se2 superconductor, with an attempt to elucidate the crystal growth details and basic physical properties over a wide range of temperatures and applied magnetic field, including anisotropic magnetic and electrical transport properties, thermodynamic, London penetration depth, magneto-optical imaging and Mossbauer measurements. We find that: (i) Single crystals of similar stoichiometry can be grown both by furnace-cooled and decanted methods; (ii) Single crystalline K0.80Fe1.76Se2 shows moderate anisotropy in both magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity and a small modulation of stoichiometry of the crystal, which gives rise to broadened transitions; (iii) The upper critical field, Hc2(T) is ~ 55 T at 2 K for H||c, manifesting a temperature dependent anisotropy that peaks near 3.6 at 27 K and drops to 2.5 by 18 K; (iv) Mossbauer measurements reveal that the iron sublattice in K0.80Fe1.76Se2 clearly exhibits magnetic order, probably of the first order, from well below Tc to its Neel temperature of Tn = 532 +/- 2 K. It is very important to note that, although, at first glance there is an apparent dilemma posed by these data: high Tc superconductivity in a near insulating, large ordered moment material, analysis indicates that the sample may well consist of two phases with the minority superconducting phase (that does not exhibit magnetic order) being finely distributed, but connected with in an antiferromagnetic, poorly conducting, matrix, essentially making a superconducting aerogel., Comment: 30 pages, 15 figures, to be a chapter in the book titled "Iron Pnictide Superconductors: materials, properties and mechanism" by Pan Stanford Publishing

The magnetic ordering of superconducting single crystals of K_0.85Fe_1.83Se_2.09 has been studied between 10K and 550K using 57-Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Despite being superconducting below T_sc ~30K, the iron sublattice in K_0.85Fe_1.83Se_2.09 clearly exhibits magnetic order from well below T_sc to its N\'eel temperature of T_N = 532 +/- 2K. The iron moments are ordered perpendicular to the single crystal plates, i.e. parallel to the crystal c-axis. The order collapses rapidly above 500K and the accompanying growth of a paramagnetic component suggests that the magnetic transition may be first order, which may explain the unusual temperature dependence reported in recent neutron diffraction studies., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures Submitted to Phys.Rev.B

We suggest to use insulating garnets doped by rare earth ions for measurements of nuclear anapole moments. A parity violating shift of the NMR frequency arises due to the combined effect of the lattice crystal field and the anapole moment of the rare-earth nucleus. We show that there are two different observable effects related to frequency: 1) A shift of the NMR frequency in an external electric field applied to the solid. The value of the shift is about \Delta \nu_1 ~ 10^{-5} Hz with E = 10 kV/cm; 2) A splitting of the NMR line into two lines. The second effect is independent of the external electric field. The value of the splitting is about \Delta \nu_2 ~ 0.5 Hz and it depends on the orientation of the crystal with respect to magnetic field. Both estimates are presented for a magnetic field of about 10 tesla. The electric dipole moment (EDM) of a particle violates both time reversal (T) and space reflection (P) symmetries. There have been recent suggestions for searches of the electron EDM using solid state experiments [1,2]. These experiments could improve the sensitivity compared to present atomic and molecular experiments by several orders of magnitude. In the present paper we calculate the expected effect. We also suggest that this kind of experiment is sensitive to T,P-violation in nuclear forces and calculate effects caused by the nuclear Schiff moment. The compounds under consideration contain magnetic Gd$^{3+}$ ions and oxygen O$^{2-}$ ions. We demonstrate that the main mechanism for the T,P-odd effects is related to the penetration of the Oxygen 2p-electrons to the Gd core.
