[EN] In the peri-Gondwanan Ediacaran arc section outcropping in the SW of the Iberian Massif (Mérida region), changes in the subduction angle and subduction rate, variable participation of highly modified mantle sources together with the role of old crustal material and juvenile mafic rocks driven by the incoming slab, occur with a recognizable cyclicality and can be traced according to the geochronology, geochemistry and isotopic sources of the magmatic bodies. Our results support the initial existence of a mantle wedge highly modified due to percolation of significant volumes of variably old crustal materials, whose isotopic sources are almost identical to those found in the oldest known metasedimentary sequence described in SW Iberian Massif, the Serie Negra Group. Old crustal sources, analogous to those of this series were introduced to high depths by common subduction an also probably by significant subduction erosion. During the oldest period recorded in the study arc section, between c. 602 and c. 550 Ma, subduction episodes that involve high rates of crustal material along with an eventual incorporation of mafic and ultramafic materials from the incoming oceanic plate, favoured by low subduction angles, lead to the generation of more silicic magmas with adakitic geochemical affinity and isotopic signature (Nd-Sr) with crustal tendency. However, an increase in the subduction angle and change to a roll-back stage dated at c. 540 Ma, caused significant decrease in the access of cortical material to the subduction channel, favouring generation of typical calc-alkaline magmas derived from the modified mantle wedge, which is also consistent with more juvenile Nd-Sr ratios. The correlation found between the magmatic events and the involved tectonic processes suggests that subduction erosion mechanisms have been very likely underestimated as active dynamic processes along the peri-Gondwana margin during at least Neoproterozoic to Early Cambrian times., Financial support has been provided by Spanish projects CGL2016-76438-P and PID2020-112489GB-C21 (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación).

The ancient massifs of the Pyrénées -Pyrénées is a polyorogenic belt whose major structure is Alpine (ECORS profile). Alpine deformations are very important and explain the inexistence of a consensual geodynamical model for the Variscan Pyrénées. Since the last thirty years, lot of works have been done on the Variscan Pyrénées. Though there is an unanimous agreement on the lithostratigraphic evolution, it exists sometimes different views about the tectonic structure and evolution, the metamorphism, the magmatism and the geodynamical model. Metamorphic Precambrian is defined in the eastern part of the belt with the Canigou orthogneiss (535 Ma or 560-580 Ma). The Cambro-Ordovician is well known also in the eastern part with the Jujols and Canaveilles series. The age of these series is controversial. The Middle and Upper Ordovician is a fine detrital series with volcanism indicating an extensive context. The Silurian appears on the whole of the belt with black graphitic shales. Lower and Middle Devonian is first of all detrital and later carbonaceous. Frasnian in the Central Pyrénées shows a well-contrasted sedimentation with shallow-water limestones and turbiditic series deposited in elongated basins limited by listric faults. Upper Devonian and Lower Carboniferous are characterized by uniform carbonate deposits. During the Carboniferous foreland flysch (Culm) deposited and is followed, in the Stephanian time, by detrital series (conglomerates, sandstones) unconformably overlying the folded Culm. The Hercynian Pyrenean metamorphism developed in large structure domes is characterized by : (1) metamorphic reactions leading to a granulitic facies in the upper part of the lower crust, and to a general migmatization in the lower part of the middle crust ; (2) a high metamorphic gradient of 50°C/km ; (3) a clockwise P-T trajectory. Ultrabasic and basic rocks are associated to the development of the thermal anomaly developing the metamorphism. Numerous plutonic massifs (granitoides and basic rocks) crosscut the Variscan formations at different levels. They are a double origin : the basic rocks originated from the upper mantle after transformations, the granites originated from the anatexis of the lower part of the middle crust. Structurally the Variscan Pyrénées are characterized by large structural domes developed in the metamorphic series and upright folds deforming the Upper formations. Relationships between these structures are interpreted by different models. More early large-scale thrusts progressing from north to south produce abnormal superpositions in the whole of the crust. Only from 1985, different geodynamical models were being proposed. Variscan Pyrénées results to : intracontinental thinning ; collision following by extension ; intracontinental shortening ; thinning following by intracontinental shortening. The stratigraphie evolution of the upper Paleozoic series is compatible only with the two last models., Les Pyrénées sont une chaîne polyorogénique dont le dispositif structural majeur est d'âge alpin (profil ECORS). Les perturbations provoquées par l'orogenèse alpine sont importantes et expliquent, en grande partie, la difficulté d'établir un schéma d'évolution géodynamique consensuel pour l'orogenèse varisque. En effet si, parmi les très nombreux travaux de ces trente dernières années, un accord apparaît sur l'évolution lithostratigraphique, des opinions différentes et même opposées ont été émises sur la structure, le métamorphisme, le magmatisme et le schéma géodynamique des Pyrénées varisques. Le Précambrien métamorphique a été défini dans la partie orientale de la chaîne où les orthogneiss du Canigou ont été datés par différentes méthodes à 535 Ma et 560-580 Ma. Le Cambro-Ordovicien est également bien connu dans les Pyrénées orientales avec les séries de Jujols et de Canaveilles dont l'âge exact est controversé. L'Ordovicien serait représenté uniquement par sa partie moyenne et supérieure sous forme d'une série détritique fine associée à un volcanisme traduisant un contexte en extension. Le Silurien est caractérisé, dans l'ensemble de la chaîne, par des schistes noirs graphiteux. Le Dévonien inférieur et moyen est d'abord détritique puis carbonaté surtout à l'Est. Le Frasnien est marqué dans les Pyrénées centrales par une sédimentation contrastée avec des calcaires de plate-forme et de puissants épandages détritiques dans des bassins limités par des failles listriques. Le Dévonien supérieur et le Carbonifère inférieur sont uniformément carbonatés. Au Carbonifère, mais de manière diachrone, le Culm se dépose sous forme de puissantes séries détritiques avec des remaniements de plate-forme carbonatée. Enfin au Stéphanien, dans de petits bassins, des conglomérats et des grès recouvrent en discordance le Culm plissé. Le métamorphisme hercynien apparaît dans de grands dômes structuraux centrés sur des coeurs de migmatites, de gneiss ou de granitoïdes. Il est caractérisé par : (1) une série de transformations aboutissant au métamorphisme granulitique au sommet de la croûte inférieure, et la migmatisation généralisée de la base de la croûte moyenne ; (2) un gradient géothermique relativement élevé (50°C/km) ; (3) une trajectoire horaire de l'évolution des conditions P/T. Les roches ultrabasiques et basiques abondantes dans les dômes métamorphiques ont probablement joué un rôle important dans le développement de l'anomalie thermique responsable du métamorphisme. Les granitoïdes forment de nombreux plutons recoupant à des niveaux différents les formations varisques. Ils sont constitués pour l'essentiel de granitoïdes et de granites, mais contiennent également des roches basiques. Leur origine est probablement mixte, les roches basiques provenant du manteau après transformations et les granites s.l. résultant de l'anatexie de la base de la croûte moyenne. Au point de vue structural, les Pyrénées varisques sont caractérisées par de grands dômes dans les séries métamorphisées et des plis droits dans les formations plus superficielles. Les relations entre ces deux types de structures font l'objet d'opinions divergentes et sont expliquées par différents modèles. Outre ce dispositif général, l'orogenèse varisque se marque par le développement de chevauchements précoces à vergence sud, redoublant les séries à différents niveaux. Enfin, il est remarquable de constater que c'est seulement depuis 1985 que des modèles géodynamiques ont été proposés. Ces modèles sont très différents, les Pyrénées étant considérées comme résultant : d'une extension intracontinentale continue ; d'une collision suivie d'une extension ; d'une collision ; d'une extension suivie d'une collision. La confrontation de ces modèles avec les données de l'évolution stratigraphique montre que seuls les deux derniers sont compatibles avec cette évolution., Majesté-Menjoulas Claude, Debat Pierre, Mercier Alain. The Ossa-Morena Zone (OMZ) has a complex geological history including both Cadomian and Variscan orogenic events. Therefore, the OMZ plays an important role in understanding the geodynamic evolution of Iberia. However, the P–T–t evolution of the OMZ is poorly documented. Here, we combine structural and metamorphic analyses with new geochronological data and geochemical analyses of mafic bodies in Ediacaran metasediments (in Iberia known as Série Negra) to constrain the geodynamic evolution of the OMZ. In the studied mafic rocks, two metamorphic stages were obtained by phase equilibria modelling: (1) a high-pressure/low-temperature event of 1.0 ± 0.1 GPa and 470–510 °C, and (2) a medium-pressure/higher-temperature event of 0.6 ± 0.2 GPa and 550–600 °C. The increase in metamorphic temperature is attributed to the intrusion of the Beja Igneous Complex (around 350 Ma) and/or the Évora Massif (around 318 Ma). New U–Pb dating on zircons from the mafic rocks with tholeiitic affinity yields an age between 815 and 790 Ma. If the zircons crystallised from the tholeiitic magma, their age would set a minimum age for the pre-Cadomian basement. The ca. 800 Ma protolith age of HP-LT tholeiitic dykes with a different metamorphic history than the host Série Negra lead us to conclude that: (1) the HP-LT mafic rocks and HP-LT marbles with dykes were included in the Ediacaran metasediments as olistoliths; (2) the blueschist metamorphism is older than 550 Ma (between ca. 790 Ma and ca. 550 Ma, e.g., Cadomian)., International Journal of Earth Sciences, 109 (8), ISSN:1437-3254, ISSN:1437-3262
