The heavy metal ions and organic pollutants are major harmful substances in wastewater because of their toxicity on human health and environment. Nowadays, the adsorption–catalysis treatment to remove them simultaneously is still a challenge because of their different reaction mechanisms. Herein, a novel bifunctional polymer magnetic material Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI was successfully developed through a facile co‐deposition method by the copolymerization modification of polydopamine (PDA) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) on magnetic ferroferric oxide, which can both be utilized for both heavy metal ion removal from simulated industrial wastewater and further effective catalytic reduction of toxic 4‐nitrophenol (4‐NP) to useful 4‐aminophenol. The maximum adsorption capacity of Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI for gold ions was 465.12 mg/g at 35°C, and the adsorption thermodynamic parameters ΔG, ΔH, and ΔS of Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI (m(PDA):m(PEI) = 2:1) were −5.28 (35°C), 25.58, and 111.30 J K−1 mol−1, respectively. In addition, a sustainable strategy of converting gold ions to gold nanoparticles has been demonstrated for additional catalytic functionality of Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI, and Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI‐Au could effectively catalyze the reduction of 4‐NP at ambient temperature within 9 min. Fe3O4@PDA‐PEI with the advantages of facile fabrication, easy separation, excellent adsorption, and catalysis performance could be used as a promising polymer composite material in complicated wastewater environment. © 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Bi2MoO6 was one of the important bismuth-based semiconductors with a narrow bandgap, and has been widely used in selective oxidation catalysts, supercapacitors, and energy-storage devices. A series of Bi2MoO6/ZnO composite photocatalysts with different mass ratios were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, PL, UV-Vis, SEM, TEM, XPS, and BET analysis techniques. Under visible light conditions, Methylene blue (MB) was used as the target degradation product to evaluate its photocatalytic performance. The results showed that the degradation rate constant of Bi2MoO6/ZnO (0.4-BZO) was about twice that of the traditional photocatalysis of ZnO. The Bi2MoO6/ZnO composite catalyst maintained stable performance after four consecutive runs. The high photocatalytic activity of Bi2MoO6/ZnO was attributed to the efficient electron transport of the heterojunction, which accelerates the separation of electron-hole pairs and reduces the probability of carrier recombination near the Bi2MoO6/ZnO heterojunction. Aim: To investigate the association between meat intake and incidence of type 2 diabetes (type 2 DM) in a large cohort of middle-aged women. Design, subjects and methods: Incident cases of type 2 DM were identified during an average of 4.6 years of follow-up in a prospective cohort study of 74,493 middle-aged, Chinese women (mean age ± SD =51.7± 8.97 years). Participants completed in-person interviews that collected information on type 2 DM risk factors such as dietary factors and physical activity in adulthood. Anthropometric indices were measured. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). We included in the current analysis 70,609 women who had no prior history of type 2 DM at study recruitment and who had valid dietary data. The association of type 2 DM with unprocessed meat intake (g/day) and the frequency of consumption of processed meat was evaluated using the Cox model with adjustment for age, kcals/day, body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio (WHR), vegetable intake, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, income level, education level, occupation status, and history of hypertension and chronic disease at baseline. Principal results: We identified 1972 incident cases of type 2 DM during a total of 326,581 person-years of follow up. Intake of unprocessed meat, particularly poultry, was associated with a decrease in the risk of type 2 DM in this cohort. The fully adjusted relative risks (RRs) for quintiles of total unprocessed meat intake were 1.00, 0.78, 0.83, 0.74, and 0.83 (P for trend: Conclusions: Processed meat intake was positively associated with the risk of type 2 DM. There was an indication that the effect of unprocessed meat intake on type 2 DM may be modified by BMI.

g‐C3N4 was employed as a modified substance for modification engineering of wurtzite‐ZnS photocatalysts to overcome its limited light response and stability. The g‐C3N4/ZnS (CNZS) photocatalyst was synthesized by solvothermal reaction of g‐C3N4, thiourea and zinc acetate. The results show that wurtzite‐ZnS spheres were loaded on the surface of g‐C3N4 with well uniformed size. The photocatalytic activity of the catalyst was determined by the degradation of MB and Rh.B under visible light. The degradation rates of Rh.B and MB by CNZS were 96% and 97%, much better than that of pure ZnS. The addition of g‐C3N4 promoted the visible light response of wurtzite‐ZnS and inhibited the recombination of photogenerated electrons with holes. The density functional theory (DFT) results indicated that the components of both valence band and conductive band were changed for the CNZS system. Compared to pure ZnS, the band gap of CNZS was decreased about 0.5 eV, and the work function calculations were in good agreement with the experimental results. As a result, the heterostructure of CNZS made it beneficial to the electron transfer from g‐C3N4(2p of N) to ZnS (3p of S) and absorption edge has been extended to about 600 nm. Hydrogen energy, one of the recognized green energy sources, has many advantages, and electrochemical hydrogen storage has been regarded as one of the outstanding energy storage systems. The present research describes that the organophosphonic carboxylic acid-modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes/Bi2S3 composite (OPCAMCN/BS) has been produced successfully by a facile solution reaction method, and it has been characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and porous structure analysis. Because of the efficient synergistic effect of organophosphonic carboxylic acid-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes and bismuth sulfide, the composite displays excellent electrochemical hydrogen storage and stability performances. The electrochemical hydrogen storage performance of the OPCAMCN/BS electrodes has been measured, and its discharge capacity (950.9 mAh/g) greatly exceeds the relevant values of those two reference materials, and the cycle life of the OPCAMCN/BS electrodes is higher than that of Bi2S3 and MWCNTs/BS. Furthermore, the as-synthesized composite OPCAMCN/BS exhibits very low charge transfer resistance which signifies fast electron transfer. Therefore, OPCAMCN/BS is expected to be used as a kind of excellent electrochemical hydrogen storage material and can be applied in the areas of renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The adsorption properties of hydroxyl‐ or amino‐terminated polyamines for Cu2+ ions are studied in detail by adopting the batch method, and the effects of main imprinting conditions, such as the concentrations of Cu2+ ions, temperature, pH and the amount of N are examined. The results showed that adsorption capacity increased with the increase of the number of N in the functional groups. The kinetic of the reaction is very rapid and follows the pseudo‐second order and clearly indicated that both the Langmuir and Freundlich models could describe the Cu2+ ions adsorption on aminated mesoporous materials well. Hence, the reported mesoporous materials herein hold great potential to remove Cu2+ ions from aqueous solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Triphosphonic acid modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (TPA-MWCNTs) have been developed in a facile method and then characterized and used for gold ion adsorption. The adsorption behaviors of TPA-MWCNTs for Au(III), including the effect of pH, adsorption isotherm, adsorption kinetics, adsorption thermodynamics, and regeneration properties have been investigated, and the maximum adsorption capacity of TPA-MWCNTs obtained from the Langmuir isotherm is 980.39 mg/g at 35 °C. Moreover, the adsorption process optimization has been conducted by using response surface methodology (RSM) and the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Therefore, TPA-MWCNTs can be used as an efficient adsorbent in wastewater treatment and gold uptake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
