A stiffened deep mixed (SDM) column can significantly increase the bearing capacity, reduce settlement, and enhance the slope stability of soft clays as compared with a conventional deep mixed (DM) column. This technique involves inserting plain concrete, reinforced concrete or a steel pile into the center of the DM column after the DM column is constructed. In this paper, a series of centrifugal modeling tests were conducted to investigate the performance of an SDM column-supported embankment over soft clay. A model embankment supported only by DM columns was constructed for comparison. Two ideal numerical models of column-reinforced soil under equal stress and equal strain conditions were established to explore the role the column played in accelerating soil consolidation. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the influence factors of the length of the core pile, column spacing, thickness of the underlying soil, modulus and thickness of the cushion, and modulus of the slab on the load transfer of the system, and some recommendations were proposed for its application. The load-transfer mechanism of an SDM column-supported embankment system with a slab was established based on the development of the volumetric strains and the principal stresses in the numerical models. Une colonne raidie en profondeur melangee (SDM) peut augmenter considerablement la capacite portante, reduire le tassement et ameliorer la stabilite de la pente des argiles molles par rapport a une colonne conventionnelle melangee en profondeur (DM). Cette technique consiste a inserer du beton brut, du beton arme ou un pieu en acier au centre de la colonne DM apres la construction de la colonne DM. Dans cet article, une serie d'essais de modelisation centrifuge a ete realisee pour etudier les performances d'un remblai soutenu par des colonnes SDM sur de l'argile molle. Un remblai modele supporte uniquement par des colonnes DM a ete construit a des fins de comparaison. Deux modeles numeriques ideaux de sols renforces par des colonnes soumis a des conditions de contrainte egale et de deformation egale ont ete etablis afin d'explorer le role joue par la colonne dans l'acceleration de la consolidation des sols. Une etude parametrique a ete menee pour etudier les facteurs d'influence de la longueur du pieu central, l'espacement des colonnes, l'epaisseur du sol sous-jacent, le module et l'epaisseur du coussin, ainsi que le module de la dalle sur le transfert de charge du systeme, et certaines recommandations ont ete proposes pour son application. Le mecanisme de transfert de charge d'un systeme de remblai soutenu par des colonnes SDM avec une dalle a ete etabli sur la base du developpement des deformations volumetriques et des principales contraintes des modeles numeriques. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common postoperative complication in patients with lung cancer that seriously affects prognosis and quality of life. At present, the detection rate of patients with early‐stage lung cancer is increasing, but there are few studies on the risk factors for postoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with stage IA non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to establish a nomogram for predicting the probability of postoperative VTE risk in patients with stage IA NSCLC. Methods: The clinical data of 452 patients with stage IA NSCLC from January 2017 to January 2022 in our center were retrospectively analyzed and randomly divided into a training set and a validation set at a ratio of 7:3. Independent risk factors were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and a nomogram was established based on the results and internally validated. The predictive power of the nomogram was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: The nomogram prediction model included three risk factors: age, preoperative D‐dimer, and intermuscular vein dilatation. The areas under the ROC curve of this predictive model were 0.832 (95% CI: 0.732–0.924) and 0.791 (95% CI: 0.668–0.930) in the training and validation sets, respectively, showing good discriminative power. In addition, the probability of postoperative VTE occurrence predicted by the nomogram was consistent with the actual occurrence probability. In the decision curve, the nomogram model had a better net clinical benefit at a threshold probability of 5%–90%. Conclusion: This study is the first to develop a nomogram for predicting the risk of postoperative VTE in patients with stage IA NSCLC; this nomogram can accurately and intuitively evaluate the probability of VTE in these patients and help clinicians make decisions on prevention and treatment. Gossypium barbadense possesses a superior fiber quality because of its fiber length and strength. An in-depth analysis of the underlying genetic mechanism could aid in filling the gap in research regarding fiber strength and could provide helpful information for Gossypium barbadense breeding. Three quantitative trait loci related to fiber strength were identified from a Gossypium barbadense recombinant inbred line (PimaS-7 × 5917) for further analysis. RNA sequencing was performed in the fiber tissues of PimaS-7 × 5917 0-35 days postanthesis. Four specific modules closely related to the secondary wall-thickening stage were obtained using the weighted gene coexpression network analysis. In total, 55 genes were identified as differentially expressed from 4 specific modules. Gene Ontology and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes were used for enrichment analysis, and Gbar_D11G032910, Gbar_D08G020540, Gbar_D08G013370, Gbar_D11G033670, and Gbar_D11G029020 were found to regulate fiber strength by playing a role in the composition of structural constituents of cytoskeleton and microtubules during fiber development. Quantitative real-time PCR results confirmed the accuracy of the transcriptome data. In plant cells, vacuolar H + -ATPases (V-ATPases) are responsible for deacidification of the cytosol and energisation of the secondary transport processes across the tonoplast. A number of V-ATPase subunit genes have been demonstrated to be involved in the regulation of the plant response to water deficit. However, there are no reports on the role of V-ATPase subunit A (VHA-A) in dehydration tolerance of cotton. In this study, cotton GhVHA-A gene was functionally characterized, especially with regard to its role in dehydration stress tolerance. Expression analysis showed that GhVHA-A was differentially expressed in various cotton organs and was induced by dehydration, low temperature, high salinity, and abscisic acid treatment in leaves. We also report that GhVHA-A improve dehydration tolerance in transgenic tobacco and cotton. Virus-induced gene silencing of GhVHA-A decreased the tolerance of cotton plantlets to dehydration stress. Silencing GhVHA-A decreased chlorophyll content and antioxidant enzyme activities and increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content in cotton under dehydration stress. However, transgenic tobacco expressing GhVHA-A exhibited enhanced dehydration resistance, resulting in reduced leaf water loss, higher average root length, and lower MDA levels under dehydration stress. Meanwhile, overexpression of GhVHA-A in tobacco conferred water deficit tolerance by enhancing osmotic adjustment (proline) and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and peroxidase, thereby enhancing reactive oxygen species detoxification. These results suggest that GhVHA-A plays an important role in conferring resistance to dehydration stress. Our results have identified GhVHA-A as a candidate gene for improving dehydration tolerance in plants.
