2. Screening of dandelion phenolic extracts and their anti-bacterial function against Escherichia coli through acting on Na+-K+ ATPase

Abstract Food contamination by Escherichia coli (E. coli) is an increasing public health concern. Screening for natural plant preservatives has received increasing attention. In this study, dandelion flower phenolic extract (DFPE), with the strongest bacterial inhibition and the highest polyphenol level from various organs, was identified using HPLC and FTIR. The results showed a significant increase in extracellular ATP levels due to cellular membrane leakage in E. coli and decreased Na+-K+ ATPase activity. These behaviors were caused by representative phenolic compounds such as caffeic acid in DFPE. Molecular docking simulations were performed to reveal the mechanism of interaction between caffeic acid and Na+-K+ ATPase. This indicated that conventional hydrogen bonds, pi-anions, and pi-alkyl were involved in the interaction between them. Molecular dynamic equilibrium of the liganded ATPase complex was achieved after 20 ns. The lower values of Rg and SASA demonstrated that the liganded ATPase structure changed from a relatively loose to a tight state in the presence of caffeic acid. Overall, these findings are meaningful for screening bioactive compounds from various food-derived plant tissues using a combination of practical experimentation and molecular simulations. 3. Analysis of the Long Non-Coding and Messenger RNA Expression Profiles in the Skin Tissue of Super Merino and Small-Tailed Han Sheep

Wool quality and yield are two important economic livestock traits. However, there are relatively few molecular studies on lncRNA for improving sheep wool, so these require further exploration. In this study, we examined skin tissue from the upper scapula of Super Merino (SM) and Small-Tailed Han (STH) sheep during the growing period. The apparent difference was verified via histological examination. High-throughput RNA sequencing identified differentially expressed (DE) long non-coding (lncRNAs) and messenger RNAs (mRNAs). The target gene of DE lncRNA and DE genes were enrichment analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). A Reverse Transcription quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to verify randomly selected DE lncRNAs and mRNAs. Finally, the DE, RAC2, WNT11, and FZD2 genes, which were enriched in the Wnt signaling pathway, were detected via immunohistochemistry. The results showed that a total of 20,888 lncRNAs and 31,579 mRNAs were identified in the skin tissues of the two sheep species. Among these, 56 lncRNAs and 616 mRNAs were differentially expressed. Through qRT-PCR, the trends in the randomly selected DE genes’ expression were confirmed to be aligned with the RNA-seq results. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that DE lncRNA target genes were enriched in GO terms as represented by epidermal and skin development and keratin filature and in KEGG terms as represented by PI3K-Akt, Ras, MAPK, and Wnt signaling pathways, which were related to hair follicle growth and development. Finally, immunohistochemistry staining results indicated that RAC2, WNT11, and FZD2 were expressed in dermal papilla (DP). The lncRNAs MSTRG.9225.1 and MSTRG.98769.1 may indirectly participate in the regulation of hair follicle growth, development, and fiber traits by regulating their respective target genes, LOC114113396(KRTAP15-1), FGF1, and IGF1. In addition, MSTRG.84658.1 may regulate the Wnt signaling pathway involved in the development of sheep hair follicles by targeting RAC2. This study provides a theoretical reference for improving sheep breeding in the future and lays a foundation for further research on the effects of MSTRG.84658.1 and the target gene RAC2 on dermal papilla cells (DPC).

Abstract Objective This study aimed at evaluating the effects of online and offline hybrid weight management approach based on the Fogg behavior model on total gestational weight gain and perinatal outcomes. Methods Pregnant women in Hainan, the southernmost province of China, were recruited into a randomized controlled trial, which was designed to develop a WeChat platform for pregnancy weight management, and implement individualized and continuous pregnancy weight management services for pregnant women under the guidance of the Fogg behavior model. All pregnant women participating in the study were included in the full analysis set (FAS) for analysis. The pregnant women who completed the intervention and provided all outcome indicators were included in the per protocol set (PPS) for outcome evaluation. Results Fifty-eight pregnant women were included in FAS analysis, and 52 pregnant women were finally included in PPS analysis. There was no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05) between the two groups at baseline. Abstract Emerging reconfigurable metasurfaces offer various possibilities for programmatically manipulating electromagnetic waves across spatial, spectral, and temporal domains, showcasing great potential for enhancing terahertz applications. However, they are hindered by limited tunability, particularly evident in relatively small phase tuning over 270°, due to the design constraints with time‐intensive forward design methodologies. Here, a multi‐bit programmable metasurface is demonstrated capable of terahertz beam steering facilitated by a developed physics‐informed inverse design (PIID) approach. Through integrating a modified coupled mode theory (MCMT) into residual neural networks, the PIID algorithm not only significantly increases the design accuracy compared to conventional neural networks but also elucidates the intricate physical relations between the geometry and the modes. Without decreasing the reflection intensity, the method achieves the enhanced phase tuning as large as 300°. Additionally, the inverse‐designed programmable beam steering metasurface is experimentally validated, which is adaptable across 1‐bit, 2‐bit, and tri‐state coding schemes, yielding a deflection angle up to 68° and broadened steering coverage. The demonstration provides a promising pathway for rapidly exploring advanced metasurface devices, with potentially great impact on communication and imaging technologies.

7. Relationship between first trimester physical activity and premature rupture of membranes: a birth cohort study in Chinese women

Abstract Objective This study aimed to examine prospective associations of different intensity levels and types of physical activity (PA) in early pregnancy with premature rupture of membranes (PROM) among Chinese pregnant women. Methods A total of 6284 pregnant women were included from the Tongji-Shuangliu Birth Cohort. Household/caregiving, occupational, sports/exercise and transportation activities during early pregnancy were investigated by the pregnancy physical activity questionnaire (PPAQ), and the diagnosis of PROM was ascertained during the whole pregnancy. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the associations between PA and PROM. Results Among the 6284 pregnant women, 1246 were identified to have PROM (19.8%). Women undertaking the highest level (3 third tertile) of PA during pregnancy appeared to have a lower risk of PROM [OR = 0.68, 95%CI 0.58–0.80) when compared to those at the lowest tertile of PA. Similarly, women with increased levels of light intensity activity, moderate-vigorous intensive, household/caregiving activity and meeting exercise guidelines during pregnancy were associated with reduced risks of PROM (OR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.59–0.81, OR = 0.70, 95% CI 0.60–0.82, OR = 0.62, 95% CI 0.53–0.73 and OR = 0.82, 95% CI 0.70–0.97, respectively). Conclusions High levels of PA of different intensities and PA of household/caregiving activities and meeting exercise guidelines during the first trimester were associated with a lower incidence of PROM. Trial registration The data of human participants in this study were conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration. This study has been approved by the Ethics Committee of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China ([2017] No. S225). 8. Coseismic deformation and fault slip distribution of the 2023 MW7.8 and MW7.6 earthquakes in TürkiyeKey points

On February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake with a moment magnitude of MW7.8 struck the town of Pazarcik in south-central Türkiye, followed by another powerful earthquake with a moment magnitude of MW7.6 that struck the nearby city of Elbistan 9 h later. To study the characteristics of surface deformation caused by this event and the influence of fault rupture, this study calculated the static coseismic deformation of 56 stations and dynamic displacement waveforms of 15 stations using data from the Turkish national fixed global navigation satellite system (GNSS) network. A maximum static coseismic displacement of 0.38 m for the MW7.8 Kahramanmaras earthquake was observed at station ANTE, 36 km from the epicenter, and a maximum dynamic coseismic displacement of 4.4 m for the MW7.6 Elbistan earthquake was observed at station EKZ1, 5 km from the epicenter. The rupture-slip distributions of the two earthquakes were inverted using GNSS coseismic deformation as a constraint. The results showed that the Kahramanmaras earthquake rupture segment was distinct and exposed on the ground, resulting in significant rupture slip along the Amanos and Pazarcik fault segments of the East Anatolian Fault. The maximum slip in the Pazarcik fault segment was 10.7 m, and rupture occurred at depths of 0–15 km. In the Cardak fault region, the Elbistan earthquake caused significant ruptures at depths of 0–12 km, with the largest amount of slip reaching 11.6 m. The Coulomb stress change caused by the Kahramanmaras earthquake rupture along the Cardak fault segment was approximately 2 bars, and the area of increased Coulomb stress corresponded to the subsequent rupture region of the MW7.6 earthquake. Thus, it is likely that the MW7.8 earthquake triggered or promoted the MW7.6 earthquake. Based on the cumulative stress impact of the MW7.8 and MW7.6 events, the southwestern segment of the East Anatolian Fault, specifically the Amanos fault segment, experienced a Coulomb rupture stress change exceeding 2 bars, warranting further attention to assess its future seismic hazard risk.

The construction of pure-inorganic framework materials with well-defined design rules and building blocks is challenging. In this work, we show how a polyoxometalate cluster with an integrated pore, based on [P8 W48 O184 ]40- (abbreviated as {P8 W48 }), can be self-assembled into inorganic frameworks using silver ions, which both enable reactions on the cluster as well as link them together. The {P8 W48 } was found to be highly reactive with silver ions resulting in the in situ generation of fragments, forming {P9 W63 O235 } and {P10 W66 O251 } in compound (1) where these two clusters co-crystallize and are connected into a POMZite framework with 11 Ag+ ions as linkers located inside clusters and 10 Ag+ linking ions situated between clusters. Decreasing both the concentration of Ag+ ions, and the reaction temperature compared to the synthesis of compound (1), leads to {P8 W51 O196 } in compound 2 where the {P8 W48 } clusters are linked to form a new POMZite framework with 9 Ag+ ions per formula unit. Further tuning of the reaction conditions yields a cubic porous network compound (3) where {P8 W48 } clusters as cubic sides are joined by 4 Ag+ ions to give a cubic array and no Ag+ ions were found inside the clusters.

Abstract Nonlinear transport enabled by symmetry breaking in quantum materials has aroused considerable interest in condensed matter physics and interdisciplinary electronics. However, achieving a nonlinear optical response in centrosymmetric Dirac semimetals via defect engineering has remained a challenge. Here, we observe the helicity dependent terahertz emission in Dirac semimetal PtTe2 thin films via the circular photogalvanic effect under normal incidence. This is activated by a controllable out-of-plane Te-vacancy defect gradient, which we unambiguously evidence with electron ptychography. The defect gradient lowers the symmetry, which not only induces the band spin splitting but also generates the giant Berry curvature dipole responsible for the circular photogalvanic effect. We demonstrate that the THz emission can be manipulated by the Te-vacancy defect concentration. Furthermore, the temperature evolution of the THz emission features a minimum in the THz amplitude due to carrier compensation. Our work provides a universal strategy for symmetry breaking in centrosymmetric Dirac materials for efficient nonlinear transport.

Abstract The metasurface platform with time-varying characteristics has emerged as a promising avenue for exploring exotic physics associated with Floquet materials and for designing photonic devices like linear frequency converters. However, the limited availability of materials with ultrafast responses hinders their applications in the terahertz range. Here we present a time-varying metasurface comprising an array of superconductor-metal hybrid meta-molecules. Each meta-molecule consists of two meta-atoms that are “bonded” together by double superconducting microbridges. Through experimental investigations, we demonstrate high-efficiency linear terahertz frequency conversion by rapidly breaking the bond using a coherent ultrashort terahertz pump pulse. The frequency and relative phase of the converted wave exhibit strong dependence on the pump-probe delay, indicating phase controllable wave conversion. The dynamics of the meta-molecules during the frequency conversion process are comprehensively understood using a time-varying coupled mode model. This research not only opens up new possibilities for developing innovative terahertz sources but also provides opportunities for exploring topological dynamics and Floquet physics within metasurfaces.

Planning a path is crucial for safe and efficient Unmanned aerial vehicle flights, especially in complex environments. While the Q-learning algorithm in reinforcement learning performs better in handling such environments, it suffers from slow convergence speed and limited real-time capability. To address these problems, this study proposes an enhanced initialization process using the flower pollination algorithm and employs a tabulation method to improve local obstacle avoidance ability. An improved Q-learning algorithm based on the flower pollination algorithm and tabulation method (IQ-FAT) is proposed, which can perform both global and local path planning, enhance the convergence time of Q-learning, and expedite obstacle avoidance. Evaluation results on various obstacle maps demonstrate that the modified algorithm has a significant improvement convergence speed of approximately 40% compared to the original algorithm while enabling global path planning and local obstacle avoidance. Furthermore, the algorithm demonstrates superior path-planning capabilities in complex environments and enhances the dynamic response time of UAVs by approximately 90% compared to the artificial potential field method.

Breast cancer (BC), as a highly prevalent malignant tumor worldwide, is still unclear in its pathogenesis and has poor therapeutic outcomes. Alternative polyadenylation (APA) is a post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism widely found in eukaryotes. Precursor mRNA (pre-mRNA) undergoes the APA process to generate multiple mRNA isoforms with different coding regions or 3′UTRs, thereby greatly increasing the diversity and complexity of the eukaryotic transcriptome and proteome. Studies have shown that APA is involved in the progression of various diseases, including cancer, and plays a crucial role. Therefore, clarifying the biological mechanisms of APA and its regulators in breast cancer will help to comprehensively understand the pathogenesis of breast cancer and provide new ideas for its prevention and treatment.

With the rapid growth of science and technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) technology has matured and attracted the attention of many researchers. The development of agricultural modernization leads to the gradual emergence of intelligent management gradually taking root in agricultural production. Among many technologies in the IoT technologies, low-power Wide Area Network (WAN) technology has the characteristics of reliable and stable transmission with long distance and low power consumption. This is very useful for data transmission in special environments, especially for orchards in mountainous areas. This paper proposed a new agricultural Internet of Things in orchard management based on multi-sensors, such as DHT11 for temperature/humidity and GY-30 for illumination, the Long Range (LoRa) technology for transmitting the collected data or control command between the terminal and data cloud center, etc. Setting a low-power IoT sensor network in the orchard can remotely measure the parameters in the orchard. LoRa WAN is used to transmit data to the central node. In order to reduce power consumption and cost, a single monitoring node selects two power supplies, a solar power supply and a power supply, and the power supply can be turned on remotely by users in special circumstances. Experiments in different environments in the peach orchard show that the monitoring system has enough reliability and accuracy, and is suitable for environmental monitoring in orchards in remote areas or areas with complex terrain.

AbstractTo investigate the phylogenetic position of Isomyia Walker, 1860, a genus that suffered from frequent revisions of the taxonomic status following the subfamily Rhiniinae (Diptera, Calliphoridae), we sequenced, assembled, annotated, and analyzed the first complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Isomyia nebulosa (Townsend, 1917) in this study. This mitogenome is 16,438 bp in length, with a standard set of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and an A + T riched non-coding region without genetic rearrangement as most dipteran mitogenomes, but long intergenic nucleotides (IGNs) between trnQ and trnM are found. The phylogeny yielded by both Bayesian inference and maximum-likelihood analysis for all mitochondrial PCGs and rRNAs of 23 mitogenomes supports the monophyly of the family Calliphoridae and the subfamilies Calliphorinae, Chrysomyinae, and Luciliinae. In addition, I. nebulosa diverged anterior to the above-mentioned three calliphorid subfamilies with high genetic distances.

The synthesis of "rim-differentiated" C5-symmetric pillar[5]arenes, whose two rims are decorated with different chemical functionalities, has remained a challenging task. This is due to the inherent statistical nature of the cyclization of 1,4-disubstituted alkoxybenzenes with different substituents, which leads to four constitutional isomers with only 1/16th being rim-differentiated. Herein, we report a "preoriented" synthetic protocol based on FeCl3-catalyzed cyclization of asymmetrically substituted 2,5-dialkoxybenzyl alcohols. This yields an unprecedented 55% selectivity of the C5-symmetric tiara-like pillar[5]arene isomer among four constitutional isomers. Based on this new method, a series of functionalizable tiara-pillar[5]arene derivatives with C5-symmetry was successfully synthesized, isolated, and fully characterized in the solid state.

The design of highly flexible framework materials requires organic linkers, whereas inorganic materials are more robust but inflexible. Here, by using linkable inorganic rings made up of tungsten oxide (P8W48O184) building blocks, we synthesized an inorganic single crystal material that can undergo at least eight different crystal-to-crystal transformations, with gigantic crystal volume contraction and expansion changes ranging from −2,170 to +1,720 Å3 with no reduction in crystallinity. Not only does this material undergo the largest single crystal-to-single crystal volume transformation thus far reported (to the best of our knowledge), the system also shows conformational flexibility while maintaining robustness over several cycles in the reversible uptake and release of guest molecules switching the crystal between different metamorphic states. 18. Effects of the online and offline hybrid continuous group care on maternal and infant health: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract Background The group care is a well-established maternal care model that has been widely used in many developed countries, but in China, it is confined to prenatal care services. In addition, affected by traditional birth culture, Chinese women tend to focus more on their fetuses and newborns but lack attention to their own intrapartum and postpartum care. The aim of this study was to construct and implement a prenatal, intrapartum, and the postpartum continuous group care model that combines online and offline service in Hainan Province, China, and to evaluate the effect on maternal women and newborns. Methods This study was a randomized controlled trial involving 144 pregnant women in a first-class tertiary general hospital in Hainan Province, China. Women were divided into an intervention group and a control group using the random number table, with 72 women in each group. The control group received routine maternal care services, and the intervention group received the continuous group care based on the routine maternal care services. Count data such as rate of cesarean section and incidence rate of fetal macrosomia were analyzed with the chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test, and the General Self-efficacy Scale scores were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA. P 0.05). Conclusion The continuous group care with online and offline service can effectively control the gestational weight gain, reduce the rate of cesarean section, macrosomia, and postpartum depression. It can improve the self-efficacy of women and the rate of exclusive breastfeeding effectively. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia and is rapidly becoming one of the most costly, fatal diseases, which is typically discovered in the late stage of molecular pathology, at which point medication intervention is irreversible. As a result, there is an urgent need for a low-cost, least-invasive way of screening cognitive impairment, with the goal of identifying persons at risk of AD. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has been described as a transitional state between normal cognitive aging and AD. Early detection and timely tracking of MCI can to some extent prevent the progression towards AD. We found a population in Northwestern China has a comparatively high prevalence of MCI. Continued education, consistent exercise, and a secure financial situation can all help older people maintain cognitive function. Due to the critical role of circulating microRNAs in intercellular signaling and the perturbations thereof, their investigation has assumed paramount significance in elucidating various pathological conditions. Numerous investigations have substantiated the significance of circulating miRNAs specifically in MCI. Here, we evaluated miR-483-5p (Area Under the Curve (AUC) is 0.901, sensitivity 79.2 % and specificity 100 %) and miR-502-5p (AUC is 0.872, sensitivity 79.2 % and specificity 83.3 %), which were derived from plasma exosomes and maintained at high levels in elderly people with MCI, could be employed as promising noninvasive biomarkers.

Abstract Dynamic manipulation of electromagnetic (EM) waves with multiple degrees of freedom plays an essential role in enhancing information processing. Currently, an enormous challenge is to realize directional terahertz (THz) holography. Recently, it was demonstrated that Janus metasurfaces could produce distinct responses to EM waves from two opposite incident directions, making multiplexed dynamic manipulation of THz waves possible. Herein, we show that thermally activated THz Janus metasurfaces integrating with phase change materials on the meta-atoms can produce asymmetric transmission with the designed phase delays. Such reconfigurable Janus metasurfaces can achieve asymmetric focusing of THz wave and directional THz holography with free-space image projections, and particularly the information can be manipulated via temperature and incident THz wave direction. This work not only offers a common strategy for realizing the reconfigurability of Janus metasurfaces, but also shows possible applications in THz optical information encryption, data storage, and smart windows.

21. Inhibitory effect of a Chinese quince seed peptide on protein glycation: A mechanism study

Non-enzymatic glycation can cause the formation and accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and it poses great threats to human health. It is urgent to search for safe and efficient inhibitors to prevent reducing sugar induced protein glycation. In this study, we investigated the anti-glycation activity and mechanism of an identified peptide, Asparagine-Tyrosine-Arginine-Arginine-Glutamic acid (NYRRE) from Chinese quince seed protein hydrolysate, by multispectroscopy, confocal imaging, and computational molecular simulation. Firstly, it was found that NYRRE could scavenge hydroxyl radicals and chelate Fe2+. Besides, the NYRRE was effective in every stage of fructose induced bovine serum albumin (BSA) glycation. The NYRRE could reduce the formation of fructosamine, carbonyl compounds, glycoxidation products and β-amyloid structure. Meanwhile, NYRRE could protect thiol groups and stabilize the spatial conformation of BSA. The NYRRE presented strong inhibition in fluorescent AGEs, and 68.19% of total AGEs formation was prevented with NYRRE at 15 mmol/L. The results of molecular simulation indicated that NYRRE could insert into the hydrophobic pocket of BSA and interact with hot spots, including arginine and lysine residues. The mechanism of NYRRE inhibiting protein glycation could be due to its antioxidant activity, BSA structure stabilizing ability, and specific bond with glycation sites of BSA. These results provided a valuable reference for developing NYRRE as an efficient antiglycation agent in preventing glycation-mediated diseases.

BackgroundThere is no clear conclusion on the immunogenicity and adverse events of concomitant administration the viral respiratory infectious disease vaccines. We aimed to evaluate the impact of concomitant administering viral respiratory infectious disease vaccines on efficiencies, safety and influencing factors.MethodsThis meta-analysis included studies from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Clinical Trials, Web of Science, WHO COVID-19 Research, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases. Randomized controlled trials of the adult participants concomitant administered with viral respiratory infectious disease vaccine and other vaccines were included. The main outcomes were the seroconversion rate and seroprotection rate of each vaccine. Used the Mantel–Haenszel fixed effects method as the main analysis to estimate the pooled RRs and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals. The risk of bias for each trial was assessed using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions, while evidence certainty was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system.ResultsA total of 21 studies comprising 14060 participants with two types of vaccines were retained for the meta-analysis. Concomitant immunization reduced the geometric mean titer (RR: 0.858, 95% CI: (0.785 to 0.939)) and the geometric mean fold rise (0.754 (0.629 to 0.902)) in the SARS-COV-2 vaccine group but increased the seroconversion rate (1.033 (1.0002 to 1.067)) in the seasonal influenza vaccine group. Concomitant administration were influenced by the type of vaccine, adjuvant content, booster immunization, and age and gender of the recipient.ConclusionThis meta-analysis suggested that the short-term protection and safety of concomitant administered were effective. Electronically, the redox properties show that both compounds 1 and 2 undergo irreversible reductions resulting in the demetalation of the compounds, whilst the magnetic behavior of 1 and 2 shows a weak antiferromagnetic and a stronger ferromagnetic coupling, respectively.

Litter decomposition is a key step in global biogeochemical cycling. In forest ecosystems, litter from different tree spec1ies often decompose together. Although species diversity is widely acknowledged to accelerate decomposition through the regulation of nutrient transfer between litter and decomposer communities, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. To explore the association between the bacterial community and mixed-litter chemical transformation, we conducted a one-year litter mixing decomposition experiment using leaf litter from four dominant tree species in Mount Tai (Eastern China), Robinia pseudoacacia, Quercus acutissima, Pinus tabulaeformis, and Pinus densiflora. Our results showed that: 1) Mass loss of leaf litter mixtures was significantly faster than that of leaf litter monocultures, except for R. pseudoacacia. Litter mixtures without R. pseudoacacia showed non-additive synergistic effects, whereas litter mixtures with R. pseudoacacia exerted additive effects; 2) Litter species in the absence of R. pseudoacacia significantly decreased the nutrient retention rates of litter mixtures compared to those of monocultures; 3) Litter mixtures with or without R. pseudoacacia showing additive and non-additive effects in monocultures had a distinct bacterial community structure; 4) Bacterial community structure was also modified by initial litter traits; carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) concentrations in monocultures; N/P and C/N ratios of mixtures with R. pseudoacacia; and the lignin/N ratio of mixtures without R. pseudoacacia. Overall, these findings indicate that tree species diversity controls decomposition and nutrient cycling, implying that an appropriate species community composition is beneficial to maintaining forest ecosystems.

As a new type of concrete admixture, concrete temperature rising inhibitor (TRI) can slow down the heat release rate of the initial hydration reaction of concrete. However, due to the lack of a clear feasibility analysis, its application in engineering is limited. In this paper, the thermodynamic parameters of concrete with different TRI are obtained by fitting the experimental data. At the same time, taking the sluice as an example, the influence of TRI on the temperature and stress field of mass concrete is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that when the content of TRI reaches 0.6% of the cementitious material, the temperature and stress peak value are obviously reduced, and the temperature control effect is obvious. Furthermore, the effect of TRI is inversely proportional to structure thickness, and its temperature control effect is more noticeable for mass thin-walled concrete structures. Compared with other temperature control measures, such as lowering the peak value of adiabatic temperature rise and the pouring temperature, the effect of TRI is more effective. It can be used as a means of temperature control in engineering and combined with other measures to put forward a more reasonable and economical temperature control scheme.

The interest in this unique subset of homochiral MOFs is derived from the many interesting chiral features for both materials and life sciences, such as asymmetrical synthesis or crystallization, homochiral structural design, chiral induction, absolute helical control and ligand handedness. Additionally, we discuss the potential applications of homochiral MCamFs. This review will be of interest to researchers attempting to design other homochiral MOFs and those engaged in the extension of MOFs for applications such as chiral recognition, enantiomer separation, asymmetric catalysis, nonlinear sensors and devices.

We report an approach to synthesize molecular tungsten-oxide-based pentagonal building blocks, in a new {W21 O72} unit, and show how this leads to a family of gigantic molecular architectures including [H12W48O164](28-) {W48}, [H20W56O190](24-) {W56}, and [H12W92O311](58-) {W92}. The {W48} and {W56} clusters are both dimeric species incorporating two {W21} units and the {W56} species is the first example of a molecular metal oxide cluster containing a chiral "double-stranded" motif which is stable in solution as confirmed by mass spectrometry. The {W92} anion having four {W21} units is one of the largest transition metal substituted isopolyoxotungstates known.

Abstract An important vision of modern magnetic research is to use antiferromagnets (AFMs) as controllable and active ultrafast components in spintronic devices. Hematite (α‐Fe2O3) is a promising model material in this respect because its pronounced Dzyaloshinskii‐Moriya interaction leads to the coexistence of antiferromagnetism and weak ferromagnetism. Here, femtosecond laser pulses are used to drive terahertz (THz) spin currents from α‐Fe2O3 into an adjacent Pt layer. Two contributions to the generation of the spin current with distinctly different dynamics are found: the impulsive stimulated Raman scatting that relies on the AFM order and the ultrafast spin Seebeck effect that relies on the net magnetization. The total THz spin current dynamics can be manipulated by a medium‐strength magnetic field below 1 T. The control of the THz spin current achieved in α‐Fe2O3 opens the pathway toward tailoring the exact spin current dynamics from ultrafast AFM spin sources.

Complexation between polymers of different species in a common solvent is a fundamental process in various applications such as functional polymeric membrane and drug delivery, yet the understanding of energetics, phase behaviors, and kinetics of polymer complexation is rather challenging partially due to the multi-component nature of the system. In this work, we investigate the hydrogen-bonding complexation of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVPON) in different solvents, and identify a variety of phase states, including homogenous solution, solid precipitate, liquid–liquid separation, gelation, and kinetically trapped structures. Among different solvents, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) has a similar structure to the repeating unit of PVPON and the complexation in NMP almost has no heat, suggesting the process is driven by entropy. The PAA/PVPON-NMP system exhibits an upper critical solution temperature; specifically, as the temperature decreases, a homogeneous solution first becomes opalescent, then undergoes a liquid–liquid separation, and finally undergoes a liquid–gel separation. On the other hand, when the polymer concentration is above a threshold, a homogenous solution turns into a gel directly without involving liquid–liquid separation with decreasing temperature. Accordingly, we construct a temperature–concentration phase diagram that shows how the gelation interplays with coacervation. This work provides a broad vision on phase behaviors of polymer complexation.

BackgroundPremature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is one of the most common causes of female infertility and the etiology is highly heterogeneous. Most cases are idiopathic and the pathogenesis remains unclear. Previous studies proved that the immune system plays a crucial role in POI. However, the precise role of immune system remains unclear. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from patients with POI by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and to explore the potential involvement of immune response in idiopathic POI.MethodsPBMC was collected from three normal subjects and three patients with POI. PBMC was subjected to scRNA-seq to identify cell clusters and differently expressed genes (DEGs). Enrichment analysis and cell-cell communication analysis were performed to explore the most active biological function in the immune cells of patients with POI.ResultsIn total, 22 cell clusters and 10 cell types were identified in the two groups. Compared with normal subjects, the percentage of classical monocytes and NK cells was decreased, the abundance of plasma B cells was increased, and CD4/CD8 ratio was significantly higher in POI. Furthermore, upregulation of IGKC, IFITM1, CD69, JUND and downregulation of LYZ, GNLY, VCAN, and S100A9 were identified, which were enriched in NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity, antigen processing and presentation, and IL-17 signaling pathway. Among them, IGHM and LYZ were respectively the most significantly upregulated and downregulated genes among all cell clusters of POI. The strength of cell-cell communication differed between the healthy subjects and patients with POI, and multiple signaling pathways were assessed. The TNF pathway was found to be unique in POI with classical monocytes being the major target and source of TNF signaling.ConclusionsDysfunction of cellular immunity is related to idiopathic POI. Monocytes, NK cells, and B cells, and their enriched differential genes may play a role in the development of idiopathic POI. These findings provide novel mechanistic insight for understanding the pathogenesis of POI.

(1) Background: Rapid and accurate determination of the content of the chemical dye Auramine O(AO) in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) is critical for controlling the quality of TCMs. (2) Methods: Firstly, various models were developed to detect AO content in Dendrobium officinale (D. officinale). Then, the detection of AO content in Saffron and Curcuma using the D. officinale training set as a calibration model. Finally, Saffron and Curcuma samples were added to the training set of D. officinale to predict the AO content in Saffron and Curcuma using secondary wavelength screening. (3) Results: The results show that the sparrow search algorithm (SSA)-backpropagation (BP) neural network (SSA-BP) model can accurately predict AO content in D. officinale, with Rp2 = 0.962, and RMSEP = 0.080 mg/mL. Some Curcuma samples and Saffron samples were added to the training set and after the secondary feature wavelength screening: The Support Vector Machines (SVM) quantitative model predicted Rp2 fluctuated in the range of 0.780 ± 0.035 for the content of AO in Saffron when 579, 781, 1195, 1363, 1440, 1553 and 1657 cm−1 were selected as characteristic wavelengths; the Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) model predicted Rp2 fluctuated in the range of 0.500 ± 0.035 for the content of AO in Curcuma when 579, 811, 1195, 1353, 1440, 1553 and 1635 cm−1 were selected as the characteristic wavelengths. The robustness and generalization performance of the model were improved. (4) Conclusion: In this study, it has been discovered that the combination of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and machine learning algorithms can effectively and promptly detect the content of AO in various types of TCMs.

Abstract Background The increasing numbers of women in the workforce is an inevitable trend in China. More and more employed women stop breastfeeding because of working stressors. Many mothers, however, overcome the challenges and insist on breastfeeding after returning to work. Their individual experience of breastfeeding may provide a new insight to promote and support breastfeeding on employed mothers. This study sought to understand mothers’ experience with insisting on breastfeeding after returning to work based on Kumpfer’s Resilience Framework in Chinese context. Methods This qualitative study was designed with semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling and snowball sampling were employed to recruit 13 full-time working mothers with a stable job in the public sector who continued to breastfeed for 1 month or longer after returning to work in Haikou, Hainan Province, China. Interviews were conducted from January to March 2020 to capture participants’ experiences of breastfeed after returning to work. Grounded theory and Kumpfer’s Resilience Framework were used to analyze data via a systematic and iterative process. Results Employed mothers built resilience while continuing to breastfeed after returning to work. The core concept was "dynamic interaction". Other categories were the background and explanation of this phenomenon. For working mothers who continued to breastfeed, resilience involved "dynamic interaction", which started from "experiencing stressors" and "obtaining support", two environmental factors interacted with the individual to "build resilience qualities", which interact with environment led to “behavioral resilience”. And then the ongoing dynamic interaction between behavioral resilience and environment ultimately led to three different "weaning processes", including natural weaning, active weaning, and forced weaning. Conclusions This study identified the framework of resilience in mothers who were in the adversity of breastfeeding after returning to work based on Kumpfer’s Resilience Framework. It provided a new insight into the resilience of employed mothers around the world to continue breastfeeding and showed the different culture of breastfeeding on employed mothers.

IntroductionIn China, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is often grown on marginal land with poor soil fertility and suboptimal climate conditions. Soil salt stress is one of the most limiting factors for alfalfa yield and quality, through its inhibition of nitrogen (N) uptake and N fixation.MethodsTo understand if N supply could improve alfalfa yield and quality through increasing N uptake in salt-affected soils, a hydroponic experiment and a soil experiment were conducted. Alfalfa growth and N fixation were evaluated in response to different salt levels and N supply levels.Results and discussionThe results showed that salt stress not only significantly decreased alfalfa biomass, by 43%–86%, and N content, by 58%–91%, but also reduced N fixation ability and N derived from the atmosphere (%Ndfa) through the inhibition of nodule formation and N fixation efficiency when the salt level was above 100 mmol Na2SO4 L–1. Salt stress also decreased alfalfa crude protein by 31%–37%. However, N supply significantly improved shoot dry weight by 40%–45%, root dry weight by 23%–29%, and shoot N content by 10%–28% for alfalfa grown in salt-affected soil. The N supply was also beneficial for the %Ndfa and N fixation for alfalfa with salt stress, and the increase reached 47% and 60%, respectively. Nitrogen supply offset the negative effects on alfalfa growth and N fixation caused by salt stress, in part through improving plant N nutrition status. Our results suggest that optimal N fertilizer application is essential to alleviate the loss of growth and N fixation in alfalfa in salt-affected soils.

Transformer model is being gradually studied and applied in bearing fault diagnosis tasks, which can overcome the feature extraction defects caused by long-term dependencies in convolution neural network (CNN) and recurrent neural network (RNN). To optimize the structure of existing transformer-like methods and improve the diagnostic accuracy, we proposed a novel method based on the multiscale time-frequency sparse transformer (MTFST) in this paper. First, a novel tokenizer based on shot-time Fourier transform (STFT) is designed, which processes the 1D format raw signals into 2D format discrete time-frequency sequences in the embedding space. Second, a sparse self-attention mechanism is designed to eliminate the feature mapping defect in naive self-attention mechanism. Then, the novel encoder-decoder structure is presented, the multiple encoders are employed to extract the hidden feature of different time-frequency sequences obtained by STFT with different window widths, and the decoder is used to remap the deep information and connect to the classifier for discriminating fault types. The proposed method is tested in the XJTU-SY bearing dataset and self-made experiment rig dataset, and the following work is conducted. The influences of hyperparameters on diagnosis accuracy and number of parameters are analysed in detail. The weights of the attention mechanism (AM) are visualized and analysed to study the interpretability, which explains the partly working pattern of the network. In the comparison test with other existing CNN, RNN, and transformer models, the diagnosis accuracy of different methods is statistically analysed, feature vectors are presented via the t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) method, and the proposed MTFST obtains the best accuracy and feature distribution form. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method in bearing fault diagnosis.

AimThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the graded transport mode in the intrahospital transport (IHT) of critically ill patients.MethodsThis is a retrospective study, including 800 patients and categorized them into control and observation groups. The control group included 420 critically ill patients who were transported via conventional methods from our emergency resuscitation unit from June 2017 to December 2017. The observation group included 380 critically ill patients who were transported through a graded transport mode from January 2018 to June 2018. We performed intergroup comparisons of the incidence rates and causes of adverse events (AEs), transport time, length of stay, and mortality rate.ResultsThe observation group had significantly lower transport time and AE incidence rates than the control group. However, no significant differences were observed in terms of the length of stay and mortality rate between the two groups.ConclusionThe most notable merits of the graded transport mode in the IHT of critical care patients include the fact that it significantly reduces the incidence of AEs during IHT, shortens the transport time, and improves transport efficiency, thereby ensuring the safety of critically ill patients.

We report the time-resolved supramolecular assembly of a series of nanoscale polyoxometalate clusters (from the same one-pot reaction) of the form: [H(10+m)Ag18Cl(Te3W38O134)2]n, where n=1 and m=0 for compound 1 (after 4 days), n=2 and m=3 for compound 2 (after 10 days), and n=∞ and m=5 for compound 3 (after 14 days). The reaction is based upon the self-organization of two {Te3W38} units around a single chloride template and the formation of a {Ag12} cluster, giving a {Ag12}-in-{W76} cluster-in-cluster in compound 1, which further aggregates to cluster compounds 2 and 3 by supramolecular Ag-POM interactions. The proposed mechanism for the formation of the clusters has been studied by ESI-MS. Further, control experiments demonstrate the crucial role that TeO3(2-), Cl(-), and Ag(+) play in the self-assembly of compounds 1-3.

Reinforced concrete has been widely used. However, it is difficult to accurately simulate the process of concrete damage and destruction caused by rebar corrosion. Therefore, the objective of this work is to solve this difficult problem using a phase field method and analyze the failure process of reinforced concrete. The main importance of this work is to improve the calculation method for the problem, simulate the damage and destruction of concrete cover, and visualize the crack propagation process. Based on the strain softening characteristics of concrete the damage of concrete cover caused by uniform and non-uniform corrosion of rebars is simulated respectively. The simulation results are consistent with the actual observation. The applicability of the phase field method for complex crack propagation in reinforced concrete is verified, which provides a reference for the engineering design and durability research of structures. Analysis of simulation results found that the crack propagation speed is fast for uniform corrosion. Increasing the thickness of concrete cover is benefit to improve the corrosion resistance of structure. However, the crack propagation speed is slow for non-uniform corrosion. The thickness of the cover has no obvious effect on the corrosion damage resistance of structure. For the non-uniform corrosion of multiple rebars, depending on the thickness of concrete cover and the spacing between rebars, the concrete cover presents three typical crack propagation morphologies: wedge-shaped cracks, layered cracks and small local cracks.

Abstract Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors have aroused great expectation of tumor eradication. However, the effect of anti-PD-L1 treatment for cervical cancer is unsatisfactory and the underlying antagonist to anti-PD-L1 efficacy is remained to be studied. Here, we investigated the anti-tumor effect of anti-PD-L1 treatment in cervical tumor model and identified the antagonist to the therapeutic efficacy of anti-PD-L1 treatment. Results We found that PD-L1 exhibited a moderate expression in both cervical tumor cell lines and clinical samples compared to other tumor types and the para-tumor tissue respectively. Interestingly, our results showed that the anti-PD-L1 treated mice were dichotomously divided into responsive and unresponsive group after five cycles of anti-PD-L1 treatment although all the mice had the same genome background. In addition, the unresponsive tumors showed less tumor necrosis area and higher immunosuppression activity induced by regulatory T cells (Tregs) population than the responsive ones. Furthermore, we found that anti-PD-L1 treatment autonomously upregulated Tregs proliferation and frequency in multiple immune organs, and, most importantly, Tregs depletion significantly depressed the tumor growth rate and tumor weight compared with either anti-PD-L1 or anti-CD25 treatment alone. Finally, we observed that the upregulating effector CD8+ T cell is associated with the better therapeutic effect of anti-PD-L1 therapy post Tregs depletion. Conclusions Anti-PD-L1 treatment upregulates Tregs frequency and proliferation in tumor model, and the depletion of Tregs may be a useful adjuvant strategy for anti-PD-L1 therapy of cervical cancer.

Eight three-dimensional lanthanide-thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate frameworks, [Ln(TDC)(2)]·(choline) (1-6; Ln = Gd, Nd, Eu, Er, Tb, Dy; TDC = thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate), [Yb(TDC)(2)(e-urea)]·(choline)·H(2)O (7; e-urea = ethyleneurea), [Nd(2)(TDC)(3)(e-urea)(4)]·3(e-urea) (8) have been successfully prepared in deep eutectic solvents (choline chloride/e-urea), respectively. Compounds 1-7 are anionic frameworks with 8-connected bcu topology, while compound 8 features a neutral 6-connected rob-type framework with guest e-urea molecules. In these structures, lanthanide ions show dicapped trigonal prism, pentagonal bipyramid, and tricapped trigonal prism coordination configurations, respectively, and the TDC ligands exhibit different coordination modes. Versatile helical substructures are presented in these compounds. The photoluminescent properties of compounds 3 (Eu) and 8 (Nd) were studied. Moreover, compound 8 can perform single-crystal-to-single-crystal guest exchange. The ethanol-exchange mechanism of 8 can be ascribed to the kinetically controlled flexibility (KCF).

In this study, we describe the design, fabrication, and characterization of a cross-shaped structure reflective broadband THz polarization converter. The operating bandwidth of the proposed polarization converter was in the range of 0.8–1.6 THz. The polarization conversion rate (PCR) exceeded 85% in the frequency range of 1.07–1.35 THz and was as high as 91% at 1.35 THz. The cross PCR value exceeded 85% in the frequency range of 1.05–1.35 THz and reached a maximum value of 91%. The performance characteristics (bandwidth and PCR) of the proposed polarization converter were compared with those of similar previously reported devices, and the results indicated that the proposed polarization converter exhibits better performance. The proposed THz polarization converter is suitable for a wide range of applications in communication and polarization manipulation devices.

Although the economy of a county that is linked to surrounding towns and rural areas constitutes a multiple basic economic unit within China's national economy, it usually exhibits independent characteristics and functions. Consequently, a county's economy plays a critical role in the overall economic development of a country's national economy. We created an evaluation index system based on entropy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of county economy across the entire Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. We found serious imbalances in the development of these counties, with county economies within Beijing and Tianjin being more advanced than those in Hebei Province. Furthermore, there were marked differences between county economies within prefecture-level cities of Hebei Province. The developmental level of counties in cities like Langfang, Tangshan and Chengde was relatively high. Conversely, the level of development of counties in Hengshui, Baoding, Xingtai and Handan was lower. Moreover, there were imbalances among cities in relation to county economic development, especially in Langfang, with smaller differences being found in Hengshui and Qinhuangdao. We analysed and identified the factors influencing differences between counties before providing recommendations.

49. Cause Investigation of Fractures in the Anti-Arc Portion of the Gravity Dam’s Overflow and the Top of the Substation Tunnel

Clarifying the origins of fractures and adopting acceptable repair plans are crucial for the design, maintenance, and safe operation of concrete gravity dams. In this research, numerical simulation is largely utilized to investigate the reasons for fractures in the anti-arc portion of the concrete gravity dam and the top of a substation tunnel in Guangdong Province, China. The calculation parameters are chosen based on the design information and engineering expertise to model the temperature field and stress field distribution of the dam during both normal operation and severe weather. The study demonstrates that under the effect of severe structural restraints and high temperatures, the tensile stress at the top of the substation tunnel would be 2.64 MPa in the summer, which is more than the tensile strength by 1.5 MPa and causes deep cracks. The tensile stress reaches 3.0 MPa in the summer under the effect of severe weather near the top of the substation tunnel. When a cold wave strikes in the winter, the concrete’s tensile stress on the overflow dam surface rises from 1.6 MPa to 4.0 MPa, exceeding the tensile strength by 1.9 MPa, resulting in the formation of a connection fracture in the reverse arc section. Both the actual observed crack location and the monitoring findings of the crack opening, as determined by the crack gauge, agree with the modeling results. The technique to lessen the structural restrictions of a comparable powerhouse hydropower station is pointed out based on engineering expertise, and various and practical repair strategies are proposed to guarantee the structure’s safe operation.

The phase-field method was used to simulate the propagation of concrete cracks and failure caused by corrosion and expansion of steel bars, which provides ideas for accurate simulation of the corrosion failure process of reinforced concrete (RC) and evaluation of structural durability. In this study, the entire process of corrosion and expansion of steel bars, resulting in cracks and finally falling off of the concrete protective layer, was successfully simulated. The simulation results were in good agreement with the actual observations. By setting different thicknesses of the protective layer, it was found that the thickness of the concrete protective layer had no obvious effect on limiting concrete cracks caused by the corrosion of steel bars. However, increasing the thickness of the protective layer can delay the speed of crack propagation. Simultaneously, considering the corrosion and expansion of multiple steel bars, according to the thickness of the protective layer and the spacing between the reinforcing bars, two forms of wedge-shaped cracking and laminar spalling of the protective layer are simulated. The simulation result is consistent with the actual observation phenomenon. This fully illustrates the possibility of using the phase-field method to simulate the corrosion fracture of RC and provides a reference for the engineering design and durability research of concrete structures.
