Objective: This study aimed to systematically review the effect of laser treatment on the bond strength of epoxy resin-based and calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers to root dentine., Methods: The search encompassed four databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science. Inclusion criteria were limited to in vitro studies conducted on extracted human teeth evaluating bond strength in megapascals (MPa) of either epoxy resin-based or calcium silicate-based sealers, using the push-out test. Two independent reviewers appraised the methodological quality of the selected studies to assess the risk of bias. Meta-analysis was performed for different laser types, endodontic sealers, and control groups. Standard Mean Difference and 95% Confidence Interval values were calculated., Results: 17 studies met the inclusion criteria for qualitative synthesis, and 15 for quantitative analysis. Meta-analyses revealed that certain lasers (Er,Cr:YSGG, Er:YAG) significantly increased bond strength for epoxy resin-based sealers when compared to negative controls (inert solutions), but did not show a significant advantage over EDTA agent. For calcium silicate-based sealers, laser treatment did not show significant enhancement in bond strength compared to either inert solutions or EDTA. The subgroup analysis suggested that erbium lasers, especially in the PIPS mode, potentially increase the bond strength of epoxy resin-based sealers., Conclusion: Laser treatment enhances the bond strength of epoxy resin-based sealers compared to inert solutions, but not more than EDTA. Calcium oxide (CaO), utilized in semi-dry/dry desulfurization systems at municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) plants, demonstrates some capability to remove polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). This study assessed the gas-phase PCDD/F removal performance of CaO, activated carbon (AC) and CaO-AC mixtures. Alone, CaO achieved removal efficiencies of only 31.9% for mass and 50.8% for I-TEQ concentration. However, CaO-AC mixtures exhibited significantly higher efficiencies, reaching 96.0% and 92.5% for mass and I-TEQ concentrations, respectively, surpassing those of AC alone, which were 74.7% and 58.5%. BET analysis indicated that CaO's limited surface area and pore structure are major constraints on its adsorption performance. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the π-π electron donor-acceptor (EDA) interaction enhances the adsorption between AC and PCDD/F, with adsorption energies ranging from -1.02 to -1.24 eV. Additionally, the induced dipole interactions between CaO and PCDD/F contribute to adsorption energies ranging from -1.13 to -1.43 eV. Moreover, with increasing chlorination levels, PCDD/F molecules are more predisposed to accept electron transfers from the surfaces of AC or CaO, thereby facilitating adsorption. The calculation for mixed AC and CaO showed that CaO modifies AC's properties, enhancing its ability to adsorb gas phase PCDD/Fs, with the higher adsorption energy and more electrons transfer, aligning with gas phase PCDD/Fs adsorption experiments. The tumor microenvironment (TME) is characterized by low pH, hypoxia, and overexpression of glutathione (GSH). Owing to the complexity of tumor pathogenesis and the heterogeneity of the TME, achieving satisfactory efficacy with a single treatment method is difficult, which significantly impedes tumor treatment. In this study, composite nanoparticles of calcium-copper/alginate-hyaluronic acid (HA) (CaO 2 -CuO 2 @SA/HA NC) with pH and GSH responsiveness were prepared for the first time through a one-step synthesis using HA as a targeting ligand. Nanoparticles loaded with H 2 O 2 can enhance the chemodynamic therapy effects. Simultaneously, Cu 2+ can generate oxygen in the TME and alleviate hypoxia in tumor tissue. Cu 2+ and H 2 O 2 undergo the Fenton reaction to produce cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals and Ca 2+ ions, which enhance the localization and clearance of nanoparticles in tumor cells. Additionally, HA and sodium alginate (SA) were utilized to improve the targeting and biocompatibility of the nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared, x-ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering, SEM, transmission electron microscope, and other analytical methods were used to investigate their physical and chemical properties. The results indicate that the CaO 2 -CuO 2 @SA/HA NC prepared using a one-step method had a particle size of 220 nm, a narrow particle size distribution, and a uniform morphology. The hydrogen peroxide self-supplied nanodrug delivery system exhibited excellent pH-responsive release performance and glutathione-responsive •OH release ability while also reducing the level of reactive oxide species quenching. In vitro cell experiments, no obvious side effects on normal tissues were observed; however, the inhibition rate of malignant tumors HepG2 and DU145 exceeded 50%. There is a long-standing debate over the effectiveness of chemical extraction methods in assessing soil metal phytoavailability. This study addresses the limitations of widely-used chemical extraction methods and presents the water-extractable pool as a more reliable indicator based on wheat pot experiments using homogenized agricultural soil amended with lime materials, phosphate, and biochar. Over 120 days' pot experiments, Cd accumulation in whole wheat plants and tissues exhibited positive relationships with water-extractable Cd concentrations at heading and maturity stage (Spearman's rho: 0.521-0.851; P < 0.05), revealing that the water-extractable pool instead of other pools better indicates wheat metal accumulation. Water-extractable metal concentrations are effective in assessing phytoavailability of metals primarily in ionic forms in soil solution (e.g, Zn, Cd), but less reliable for metals strongly complexed with dissolved organic matter (DOM) or sensitive to redox conditions. It demonstrated that water-extractable metal concentrations and chemical forms are key factors, fundamentally determined by metal properties and impacted by environmental factors. This study clarifies a more direct link between chemical extraction and plant metal uptake mechanisms. The objective of this study was to synthesize strontium titanate (Sr 1-x Ce x TiO 3 ) doped with Ce 3+ by solid state method. Its crystalline structure is Sr 1-x Ce x TiO 3 , and its bandgap ranges from ~3.3 to ~2.7 eV. In the photoluminescence of samples excited at 288 nm, the maximum emission of blue light was observed at 380 and 390 nm. Photocatalytic results show that dye molecules have a high absorbance, whereas their surface area is large. According to a line sweep voltammetric plot (LSV), illumination increases the current density by 0.4 μA cm -2 compared with dark conditions. It was demonstrated that the material changed from n-type to p-type under doping. Chronoamperometry spectra were obtained for sample Sr 1-x Ce x TiO 3 (x = 0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) when an electrical voltage of 0.8 V was applied versus NHE. The plots indicate an increase in the current density under "light ON" conditions and a decrease under "light OFF" conditions. This study evaluated the effect of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (SH) or calcium hypochlorite (CH) submitted to passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) or conventional irrigation (CI) on the incidence of residues and the bond strength of the cementation system to post-space dentin. Distilled water (DW) and 2.5% SH followed by 17% EDTA (SH-ED) were used as negative and positive control groups, respectively. The cervical, middle, and apical thirds of the post space were evaluated. One hundred and twenty bovine incisors were endodontically treated and post-space preparation was performed. The specimens were randomly assigned to six groups, according to the solution and irrigation method: DW-CI, SH-ED-CI-SH, SH-CI, SH-PUI, CH-CI, and CH-PUI. The incidence of residues (n=10) over the dentin was evaluated by scores using SEM images. Other specimens were irrigated as previously described and the post cementation was immediately performed using a conventional dual resin cement and a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive system. Push-out and failure modes were performed for bonding evaluation. Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn test for incidence of residues data and one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests for bond strength data were used at a significance level of 5%. The protocols that showed a lower incidence of residues were: SH-ED-CI-SH, SH-PUI, and CH-PUI for the cervical third and SH-ED-CI-SH for the middle third (p<0.05). In the apical third, the protocols were similar to each other (p>0.05). Objectives: The objective of this clinical trial was to evaluate and compare the clinical and radiographic successes of three bioactive endodontic cements (BEC) including novel portland cement-based material releasing fluoride, resin-modified silicate glass cement, and pure tricalcium silicate-based cement-in the treatment of primary molars diagnosed with reversible pulpitis via indirect pulp capping., Methods: Eighty-six (86) participants with previously untreated first and second primary molars were included in this study. The teeth were randomly allocated into three groups: pure tricalcium silicate-based cement, resin-modified silicate glass cement, and novel portland cement-based material releasing fluoride. Cavities were capped with the assigned cement after caries excavation using standard protocols. The teeth that underwent treatment were restored using glass ionomer cement and composite resin. Clinical and radiographic evaluations were performed at 1, 6, and 12 months. The data were analyzed using Pearson chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis H and Z test (P = 0.05)., Results: The success rate was 88 % (n = 25) in the pure tricalcium silicate-based cement group, 88.5 % (n = 26) in the resin-modified silicate glass cement group, and 100 % (n = 25) in the novel portland cement-based material releasing fluoride group. The differences at the 1st, 6th, and 12th month follow-up visits were not statistically significant among the groups (P > 0.05). α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 is a promising absorbent material for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) 1,2 . However, the most efficient α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 PSCs require the inclusion of the additive methylammonium chloride 3,4 , which generates volatile organic residues (methylammonium) that limit device stability at elevated temperatures 5 . Previously, the highest certified power-conversion efficiency of α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 PSCs without methylammonium chloride was only approximately 24% (refs. 6,7 ), and these PSCs have yet to exhibit any stability advantages. Here we identify interfacial contact loss caused by the accumulation of Cs + in conventional α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 PSCs, which deteriorates device performance and stability. Through in situ grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering analysis and density functional theory calculations, we demonstrate an intermediate-phase-assisted crystallization pathway enabled by acetate surface coordination to fabricate high-quality α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 films, without using the methylammonium additive. We herein report a certified stabilized power output efficiency of 25.94% and a reverse-scanning power-conversion efficiency of 26.64% for α-FA 1-x Cs x PbI 3 PSCs. Moreover, the devices exhibited negligible contact losses and enhanced operational stability. The selective recovery of phosphate from wastewater can manage nutrients and realize the recycling of phosphorus resources. In this study, a novel konjac glucomannan/pectin/calcium silicate composite hydrogel (KP-CSH) was developed for efficient recovery of phosphate in aqueous solution. The amount of alkali released after the reaction of KP-CSH in a neutral solution was small (the pH of the solution after the reaction was < 9). In a wide initial pH range (3-10), the adsorption capacity of KP-CSH in 50 mg-P/L phosphate solution reached 39∼45 mg-P/g. Besides, even if the pH of the solution after the reaction was less than 8, it could still well adsorb phosphate. The kinetic and isothermal adsorption experiments indicated that the adsorption process of phosphate by KP-CSH was chemical adsorption, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 61.2 mg-P/g. KP-CSH preferentially adsorbed phosphate even in the presence of high concentrations of competitive ions. In the actual biogas slurry, KP-CSH also exhibited the strongest selectivity/affinity for phosphate, and its distribution coefficient (K d ) was significantly higher than that of other co-existing anions and cations. The adsorption mechanism analysis indicated that Ca was the main adsorption site of KP-CSH, and that the adsorption process of target pollutants mainly involved ligand exchange and the intra-sphere complexation. Further plant seed germination and seedling growth experiments suggested that KP-CSH after phosphate recovery did not exert a negative effect on the growth of plant seedlings, and increased the chlorophyll content of seedling leaves. Metal-halide perovskites have become attractive nanomaterials for advanced biosensors, yet the structural design remains challenging due to the trade-off between environmental stability and sensing sensitivity. Herein, a trinity strategy is proposed to address this issue by integrating Mn (II) substitution with CsPb 2 Cl 5 inert shell and NH 2 -PEG-COOH coating for designing Mn 2+ -doped CsPbCl 3 /CsPb 2 Cl 5 core/shell hetero perovskite nanocrystals (PMCP PNCs). The trinity strategy isolates the emissive Mn 2+ -doped CsPbCl 3 core from water and the Mn 2+ d-d transition generates photoluminescence with a long lifetime, endowing the NH 2 -PEG-COOH capped Mn 2+ -doped CsPbCl 3 /CsPb 2 Cl 5 PNCs with robust water stability and oxygen-sensitive property. Given the structural integration, photoluminescent hydrogel biosensors are designed by embedding the PMCP PNCs into the hydrogel system to deliver on-site pesticide information on food products. Impressively, benefiting from the dual enzyme triggered-responsive property of PMCP PNCs, the hydrogel biosensor is endowed with ultra-high sensitivity toward chlorpyrifos pesticide at the nanogram per milliliter level. Objective: Calcium silicate cements (CSCs) are often used in endodontics despite some limitations related to their physical properties and antibacterial efficacy. This study aimed to develop and demonstrate the viability of a series of CSCs that were produced by sol-gel method and further modified with mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) and collagen, for endodontic therapy., Methods: Calcium silicate (CS) particles and MBGNs were synthesized by the sol-gel method, and their elemental, molecular, and physical microstructure was characterized. Three CSCs were developed by mixing the CS with distilled water (CS+H 2 O), 10 mg/mL collagen solution (CS+colH 2 O), and MBGNs (10 %) (CSmbgn+colH 2 O). The mixing (MT) and setting (ST) times of the CSCs were determined, while the setting reaction was monitored in real-time. Antibacterial efficacy against Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and regenerative potential on dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) were also analyzed., Results: The CS+H 2 O displayed a ST comparable to commercial products, while CSmbgn+colH 2 O achieved the longest MT of 68 s and the shortest ST of 8 min. All the experimental CSCs inhibited the growth of E. faecalis. Additionally, compared to the control group, CSCs supported cell proliferation and spreading and mineralized matrix production, regardless of their composition., Significance: Tested CSCs presented potential as candidates for pulp therapy procedures. This study undertook a comprehensive examination of the double perovskite complex Ba 2 FeWO 6 , investigating its structural, electrical, magnetic, thermal and elastic characteristics. The study used density functional theory (DFT), specifically the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. It also used different approximations, including the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and the modified Trans-Blaha (TB-mBJ) approach, to improve the accuracy of the band gap estimation more accurate. Additionlly, the GGA + U approach, incorporating the Hubbard correction term (U), was utilized. Our findings indicate that Ba 2 FeWO 6 exhibits indirect half-metallic band gaps in the (L-X) direction, with value of 0.91 eV and a net magnetic moment of 4 μ B , predominatly influenced by the iron atom. The compound demonstrated exceptional characteristics suitable for thermoelectric applications, particularly at lower temperatures. The utilization of bio-oil derived from biomass presents a promising alternative to fossil fuels, though it faces challenges when directly applied in diesel engines. Microemulsification has emerged as a viable strategy to enhance bio-oil properties, facilitating its use in hybrid fuels. This study explores the microemulsification of Jatropha bio-oil with ethanol, aided by a surfactant, to formulate a hybrid liquid fuel. Additionally, a bio-nano CaO heterogeneous catalyst synthesized from eggshells is employed to catalyse the production of Jatropha biodiesel from the microemulsified fuel using microwave irradiation. The catalyst is characterized through UV-Vis, XRD, and SEM analysis. The investigation reveals a significant reduction in CO, CO 2 , and NO X emissions with the utilization of microemulsion-based biodiesel blends. Various blends of conventional diesel, Jatropha biodiesel, and ethanol are prepared with different ethanol concentrations (5, 10, and 20 wt%). Engine performance parameters, including fuel consumption, NOX emission, and brake specific fuel consumption, are analyzed. Results indicate that the conventional diesel/Jatropha biodiesel/ethanol (10 wt%) blend exhibits superior performance compared to conventional diesel, Jatropha biodiesel, and other blends. The fuel consumption of the conventional diesel/Jatropha biodiesel/ethanol (10 wt%) blend is measured at 554.6 g/h, surpassing that of conventional diesel and other biodiesel blends. The presence of water (0.14 %) in the blend reduces the heating value, consequently increasing the energy requirement. CO and CO 2 emissions for the conventional diesel/Jatropha biodiesel/ethanol (10 wt%) blend are notably lower compared to conventional C-18 hydrocarbons and various biodiesel blends. These findings accentuate the efficacy of the microemulsion process in enhancing fuel characteristics and reducing emissions. Background: The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the fatigue behavior of teeth filled with a calcium silicate-based sealer (Bio-C Sealer, BC) or an epoxy resin-based sealer (AH Plus, AH), in bulk or associated with gutta-percha as main core material., Methods: Seventy-two sound human maxillary anterior teeth were initially selected. Sixty of them, were randomly chosen, and had their root canals prepared using nickel-titanium reciprocating instruments, being again randomly assigned to five experimental groups ( n = 12): C+ (control + prepared but not filled); BC-B (BC in bulk); BC-GP (BC+ gutta-percha); AP-B (AH in bulk); AP-GP (AH+ gutta-percha). An additional negative control group (C-) was considered ( n = 12), consisting only on sound teeth, without preparation and filling. The specimens were submitted to a survival analysis after the cyclic fatigue test., Results: Sound teeth (C-) presented the best fatigue performance ( P < 0.05), being similar only to the AP-GP group ( P > 0.05). Despite that, all experimental groups showed similar fatigue behavior ( P > 0.05) to C+ (BC-B = BC-GP = AP-B = AP-GP = C+). Based on that, it can be seen that the use of gutta-percha, as a main core material, associated with the AH Plus sealer, reestablished the mechanical fatigue performance of endodontically treated teeth comparable to sound teeth, still consisting on the most promising approach to rehabilitate such scenario. Calcium silicate ceramic is a promising bioceramic for various biomedical applications, but its high biodegradation rate and low strength restrict its clinical utility. As a result, the study devised an innovative solution to address these issues by utilizing the titanium aluminum carbide phase, potentially for the first time in biological applications, in conjugation with hydroxyapatite. Then, using powder metallurgy technology, they added these phases to calcium silicate to create nanocomposites. After soaking in simulated body fluid for ten days, the produced nanocomposites were assessed for bioactivity and biodegradability using scanning electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy, and weight loss assays. Their electrical and dielectric properties were also measured before and after soaking in the simulated body fluid solution. Furthermore, the tribo-mechanical properties of all sintered samples were measured. Interestingly, adding 40% hydroxyapatite nanoparticles to calcium silicate reduced the porosity from 12 to 6%. However, adding five vol% of the titanium aluminum carbide phase to the same sample increased the porosity to 8%. Importantly, these recorded percentages of porosity were comparable to those of compact bone porosity, which range from 5 to 13%. The addition of hydroxyapatite and titanium aluminum carbide phase significantly improved the rapid biodegradation of calcium silicate, albeit with a slight decrease in its bioactive properties, as evidenced by the incomplete surface coverage of the samples with the hydroxyapatite layer in the scanning electron microscopy images. The electrical properties of the nanocomposites were better with the addition of hydroxyapatite and titanium aluminum carbide phase, which helped the bone heal faster. The addition of a titanium aluminum carbide phase significantly improved the mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposites. For example, the calculated values for compressive strength of all examined samples were 131, 115, 105, 147, and 135 MPa. Since the sensitivity and accuracy of traditional detection for early gastric cancer diagnosis are still insufficient, it is significant to continuously optimize the optical molecular imaging detection technology based on an endoscopic platform. The signal intensity and stability of traditional chemical fluorescent dyes are low, which hinders the clinical application of molecular imaging detection technology. This work developed a probe based on perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) and peptide ligands. By utilizing CsPbBr 3 perovskite PQDs modified by azithromycin (AZI), combined with the specific polypeptide ligand of CD44v6, a gastric cancer biomarker, the perovskite-based probe (AZI-PQDs probe) which can specifically identify gastric cancer tumor was prepared. Owing to the high photoluminescence quantum yield of CsPbBr 3 PQDs, the naked eye can observe the imaging under the excitation of the hand-held ultraviolet light source. AZI-PQDs probe can accurately identify gastric cancer cells, tissues, and xenograft models with experiments of ex vivo and in vivo fluorescence imaging detection. It also exhibited low toxicity and immunogenicity, indicating the safety of the probe. Water dispersible L-glutamic acid (Glu) functionalized cesium lead bromide perovskite quantum dots (CsPbBr 3 PQDs), namely CsPbBr 3 @Glu PQDs were synthesized and used for the fluorescence "turn-off" detection of myoglobin (Myo). The as-prepared CsPbBr 3 @Glu PQDs exhibited an exceptional photoluminescence quantum yield of 25% and displayed emission peak at 520 nm when excited at 380 nm. Interestingly, the fluorescence "turn-off" analytical approach was designed to detect Myo using CsPbBr 3 @Glu PQDs as a simple optical probe. The developed probe exhibited a wide linear range (0.1-25 µM) and a detection limit of 42.42 nM for Myo sensing. Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is one of the most widely used restorative materials for temporary fillings and reconstructions in dentistry, but it has relatively poor mechanical properties that make its use limited, especially in places subject to high pressure. Thus, to extend the applicability of GIC, samples based on SiO 2 , P 2 O 5 , Al 2 O 3 , CaF 2 , and NaF were prepared with the addition of calcium oxide CaO extracted from natural sources (oyster shells) in different ratios of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25% wt. The suggested glass samples were evaluated, and their physical and mechanical properties were compared. XRD, SEM, and FTIR were performed on the samples. 24 specimens were prepared for each test in order to assess the mechanical properties as per the specific requirements. The tests included measuring bending strength, elastic modulus, adjusted direct tensile strength, absorption, water solubility, and diffusion coefficients after the specimens were stored in distilled water for 60 days. All calculations were carried out in accordance with standard procedures. The findings indicated a slight improvement in the bending resistance of the recommended GIC. Glass modified with 20% by weight of calcium oxide was the best among the ratios in terms of the results obtained and compared to the traditional commercial type. The malleable strength of the sample was 54.121 MPa, while the flexural modulus increased, the tensile strength reached 10.154 MPa, and the solubility was 25.87 µg/mm 3 after storage for 60 days. Background: Several calcium silicate-based sealers have recently emerged in endodontics. This study aimed to compare the immediate and delayed shear bond strength between the bioceramic and calcium hydroxide-based sealers and different resin-based restorative materials., Methods: One hundred and twenty specimens with a 3-mm depth and a 3-mm diameter were prepared. They were evenly divided into two groups, the bioceramic sealer and calcium hydroxide-based sealer groups. Each primary group was subdivided into two subgroups based on the restorative material used; i.e., the flowable resin composite and resin-modified glass ionomer subgroups. Moreover, each subgroup was further divided into the restoration process's timing: either immediately post-sealing or delayed after setting the sealers for seven days. The mode of failure was assessed by stereomicroscopic examination., Results: The highest shear bond strength was found when the bioceramic sealer was used and restored with the flowable resin composite. The strengths were 8.45 (1.17) and 6.67 (1.60) megapascals (MPa) in the immediate and delayed restoration groups, respectively. In contrast, the lowest strength, 2.91 (1.22) MPa, was recorded when calcium hydroxide-based sealer was employed and restored after allowing the sealer to set completely with resin-modified glass ionomer. Notably, there were no cohesive fractures within the tested restorative materials. All observed fractures occurred within the sealer materials, at the interface of the sealer and restorative material, or in combination. The overexpression of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) is closely associated with the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and cancer, rendering precise identification of IL-17A level critical for disease diagnosis and prognosis monitoring. In this study, CsPbBr 3 nanoclusters (NCs) were embedded in C 16 H 14 Br 2 O 6 Pb 2 organometallic compound (Pb-MA MOC) via a hot injection approach. Through this way, the issue of CsPbBr 3 NCs susceptible to decomposition in water was solved, and the photocurrent intensity that is generated by CsPbBr 3 was significantly enhanced. A highly sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for detecting IL-17A in human serum was developed using CsPbBr 3 /Pb-MA as the photoactive material. The electrode was initially modified with CsPbBr 3 /Pb-MA. Then, antibody-modified Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNs) with target analyte IL-17A captured, and IL-17A antibody-modified Au@CuNi diatomic catalyst (DAC) formed sandwich immune complex structure on the electrode. The existence of CuNi DAC led to a substantial reduction in photoelectric signal intensity due to oxidation of ascorbic acid in the supporting electrolyte. The photocurrent intensity exhibited linear correlation with IL-17A concentration within the range 15-750 pg/mL, and achieving an impressive detection limit of 1 pg/mL. This paper delves into the engineering applications of lime-stabilized red clay, a highly water-sensitive material, particularly in the context of the climatic conditions prevalent in the Dalian region. We systematically investigate the impact of water content, dry density, and freeze-thaw cycles (with a freezing temperature set at -10°C) on the thermal conductivity of stabilized soil, a crucial parameter for analyzing soil temperature fields that is influenced by numerous factors. By developing and validating both empirical and machine learning prediction models, we unravel the evolution of thermal conductivity in response to these factors: within the range of influencing variables, thermal conductivity exhibits an exponential or linear increase with rising water content and dry density, while it decreases exponentially with increasing freeze-thaw cycles. Furthermore, we quantitatively analyze the specific influence of water content and other factors on the thermal conductivity of stabilized soil and construct a comprehensive prediction model encompassing BP neural network, gradient boosting decision tree, and linear regression models. Comparative analysis highlights the significant enhancement in prediction accuracy achieved by the proposed ensemble model over single machine learning models, with root mean square error (RMSE) values below 0.05 and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values remaining under 2.5% in both frozen and unfrozen states. Additionally, a secondary validation using experimental data from other researchers confirms the model's good agreement with previous results, demonstrating its robust generalization ability. Green processes for synthesizing nanocomposites are a hot area of research today as traditional processes are expensive, inefficient, harmful for synthesizing organic and inorganic molecules, and unsuitable for large-scale operations. The present study investigates the capacity of green synthesized Calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) for efficiently removing Rhodamine B. Chemical reduction was replaced with Mulberry (Morus nigera) leaf extract as an environmentally friendly reaction mechanism. CaO NPs are characterized by various analytical techniques including EDX, BET, SEM, FTIR, TGA, Zeta Potential, Point of Zero Charge (PZC), and XRD. Maximum adsorption of Rhodamine B by CaO NPs is revealed at an initial concentration of Rhodamine B of 80 ppm, a temperature of 343 K, and contact time of 60 min, 0.4 g of adsorbent at a pH value of 7. Maximum removal of Rhodamine B by CaO NPs was found to be 98.2% which is promising with this small amount of adsorbent (0.4 g). Diverse Kinetic and adsorption isotherms are employed in this study to determine the requirement and significance of the adsorption process. Various adsorption isotherms such as Freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R), and Langmuir models have been employed. Among the kinetic adsorption isotherms Elovich, Intraparticle kinetic model, pseudo 1st order, and pseudo 2nd order models were applied. The current study investigates the thorough understanding of the Rhodamine B adsorption process including the mechanism of adsorption using condition optimization, characterization, and model applications. Sediments polluted with hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) and metals can pose environmental risks, yet effective remediation remains a challenge. We investigated a new composite sorbent comprising granular activated carbon (GAC) and a calcium-silicate (Polonite®, PO) for thin-layer capping of polluted sediment, with the aim to sequester both HOCs and metals. Box cores were collected in polluted Oskarshamn harbor, Sweden, and the sediments were treated with GAC and/or Polonite in a 10-week mesocosm study to measure endpoints ranging from contaminant immobilization to ecological side effects on native fauna and biogeochemical processes. The GAC particle size was 300-500 μm to reduce negative effects on benthic fauna (by being non-ingestible) and of biogenic origin (coconut) to have a small carbon footprint compared with traditional fossil ACs. The calcium-silicate was a fine-grained industrial by-product used to target metals and as a carrier for GAC to improve the cap integrity. GAC decreased the uptake of dioxins (PCDD/Fs) in the bivalve Macoma balthica by 47 % and the in vitro bioavailability of PCB by 40 %. The composite cap of GAC + Polonite decreased sediment-to-water release of Pb < Cu < Ni < Zn < Cd by 42-98 % (lowest to highest decrease) and bioaccumulation of Cd < Zn < Cu in the worm Hediste diversicolor by 50-65 %. Additionally, in vitro bioavailability of Pb < Cu < Zn, measured using digestive fluid extraction, decreased by 43-83 %. GAC showed no adverse effects on benthic fauna while Polonite caused short-term adverse effects on fauna diversity and abundance, partly due to its cohesiveness, which, in turn, can improve the cap integrity in situ. Fauna later recovered and bioturbated the cap. Both sorbents influenced biogeochemical processes; GAC sorbed ammonium, Polonite decreased respiration, and both sorbents reduced denitrification. The endowment of guided bone regeneration (GBR) membranes with the ability to activate the endogenous regenerative capability of bone to regenerate bone defects is of clinical significance. Herein we explored the preparation of the calcium compound (CC) (calcium sulfate (CaSL), calcium hydrophosphate (CaHP), or tricalcium phosphate (TCaP)) loaded ultrathin silk fibroin (SF)/gelatin (G) fibre membranes via electrospinning as the GBR membranes to regenerate the calvarial bone defects. The in vitro experiments demonstrated that the CaSL-loaded ultrathin fibrous membranes could simulate optimally the bone remodelling microenvironment in comparison with the CaHP- and TCaP-loaded fibrous membranes, displaying the highest activity to regulate the migration, proliferation, and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Also, the in vivo experiments demonstrated that the CaSL-loaded fibrous membranes presented the highest intrinsic osteoinduction to guide in situ regeneration of bone. Furthermore, the in vivo experiments demonstrated that the as-prepared composite fibrous membranes possessed good degradability. In summary, our results suggested that the CaSL-loaded fibrous membranes with high intrinsic osteoinduction and good degradability have potential to translate into clinical practice.

Aiming at the coexistence of antibiotics and Cu(II) in livestock wastewater, a novelty strategy for the simultaneous removal of antibiotics and Cu ions by in-situ utilization of Cu(II) (i.e., CP/Cu(II) and CP/Cu(II)/ascorbic acid (AA) systems) was proposed. The removal rate of florfenicol (FF) in the CP/Cu(II)/AA system was 6.9 times higher than that of the CP/Cu(II) system. CP/Cu(II)/AA system was also effective in removing antibiotics from real livestock tailwater. Simultaneously, the removal of Cu ions in CP/Cu(II) and CP/Cu(II)/AA systems could reach 54.5 % and 15.7 %, respectively. The added AA could significantly enhance the antibiotics degradation but inhibit the Cu ions removal. HO • , O 2 •- , Cu(III), and • C-R were detected in the CP/Cu(II)/AA system, in which HO • was confirmed as the predominant contributor for FF degradation, and Cu(III) and • C-R also participated in FF elimination. The role of AA could accelerate HO • production and Cu(I)/Cu(II)/Cu(III) cycle, and form • C-R. The degradation products and pathways of FF in the CP/Cu(II)/AA system were proposed and the toxicity of the degradation products was evaluated by the toxicity analysis software (T.E.S.T). Perovskites have recently emerged as a promising class of materials with a wide range of applications, including solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and catalysts. In addition, perovskites have demonstrated significant potential for water decontamination due to their tunable properties and facile synthesis. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of perovskites, including their preparation techniques, crystal structure, and electronic properties. The article also highlights the various applications of perovskites, with a particular focus on their use in water decontamination. The different types of perovskites for water decontamination, including simple, substituted, and doped perovskites, as well as nanoscopic and supported perovskites, are discussed in detail. Furthermore, the article addresses the beneficial costs of perovskites and the environmental impacts associated with their use, including toxicity and end-of-life management. Modern laboratory medicine relies on analytical instruments for bacterial detection, focusing on biosensors and optical sensors for early disease diagnosis and treatment. Thus, Density Functional Theory (DFT) was utilized to study the reactivity of glycine interacted with metal oxides (ZnO, MgO, and CaO) for bacterial detection. Total dipole moment (TDM), frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), FTIR spectroscopic data, electronic transition states, chemical reactivity descriptors, nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics, and molecular electrostatic potential (MESP) were all investigated at the B3LYP/6-31G(d, p) level using DFT and Time-Dependent DFT (TD-DFT). The Coulomb-attenuating approach (CAM-B3LYP) was utilized to obtain theoretical electronic absorption spectra with the 6-31G(d, p) basis set to be more accurate than alternative quantum chemical calculation approaches, showing good agreement with the experimental data. The TDM and FMO investigation showed that glycine/CaO model has the highest TDM (10.129Debye) and lowest band gap (1.643 eV). The DFT computed IR and the experimental FTIR are consistent. The calculated UV-vis spectra showed a red shift with an increase in polarity following an increase in the absorption wavelength due to the interaction with ZnO, MgO, and CaO. Among the five solvents of water, methanol, ethanol, DMSO and acetone, the water and DMSO enhances the UV-Vis absorption. Glycine/CaO model showed high linear polarizability (14.629 × 10 -24 esu) and first hyperpolarizability (23.117 × 10 -30 esu), indicating its potential for nonlinear optical applications. The results showed that all model molecules, particularly glycine/CaO, contribute significantly to the development of materials with potential NLO features for sensor and optoelectronic applications. Additionally, MESP confirmed the increased electronegativity of the studied structures. Additionally, glycine/ZnO nanocomposite was synthesized and characterized using IR and UV-visible spectroscopy to determine their structural and spectroscopic features. It was discovered that there was good agreement between the DFT computed findings and the related experimental data. The antibacterial activity of glycine/ZnO nanocomposites against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were studied in terms of concentration and time. The results showed that increasing the concentration of glycine/ZnO nanocomposite significantly enhanced its antibacterial efficacy by lowering optical density. Notably, Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibited lower susceptibility to the nanocomposite compared to S. aureus, requiring higher concentrations for effective bactericidal action. Fluoride (F) contamination in industrial waste is a significant challenge for sustainable materials recycling. Existing techniques for mitigating F contamination focus on immobilization, converting F compounds to insoluble forms while leaving the total F content untreated. Chelator-assisted washing is considered a promising alternative remediation strategy that can indirectly release F by entrapping and dissolving F-bearing minerals. This study evaluates the effectiveness of chelator-assisted washing in removing F from three real F-contaminated waste samples (TCS-49, TCS-51, and TCS-52) by treating with four different chelators, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), ethylenediamine N,N'-disuccinic acid (EDDS), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), and 3-hydroxy-2,2'-imino disuccinic acid (HIDS). The influence of key washing variables, including chelator type, solution pH, chelator concentration, washing time, and liquid-to-solid (L/S) ratio toward F extraction was assessed and optimized for attaining the maximum extraction. All chelators exhibited the highest F extraction from TCS-49 and TCS-51 at pH 11, whereas in TCS-52 it showed a discrete extraction pattern. Under optimized conditions (concentration, 10 mmol L -1 ; pH, 11; washing duration, 3 h; and L/S ratio, 10:1), EDTA outperformed the other chelators, enhancing F extraction by 2.1 and 1.2 times for TCS-49 and TCS-51, respectively, compared with those of control treatments. However, for TCS-52, the efficiency of EDTA was analogous to that of the control under the same washing conditions. The linear correlation between the extracted F and F-containing minerals suggests that the chelator-induced F removal from contaminated waste involves the entrapment and dissolution of F-bearing minerals, especially Ca and Fe. The present study aims to evaluate the toxicity of the green calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO-NPs) from golden linseed extract (Linum usitatissimum L.) by phytotoxicity in seeds (Daucus carota, Beet shankar, Lactuca sativa and Brassica oleracea), in vitro safety profile and soil toxicity for CaO-NPs solutions from 12.5 to 100 μg mL -1 . Ecotoxicity analysis of the soil was conducted using XRD diffractograms, which revealed characteristic peaks of the nanoparticles at 37.35° (12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg mL -1 ), as well as a peak at 67.34° (25 and 100 μg mL -1 ). Additionally, the in vitro safety assessment indicated favorable cell specification and regulation within the first 24 h, demonstrating reductions of 15.9 ± 0.2%, 17.9 ± 0.2%, 17.6 ± 0.2%, and 32.9 ± 0.2% to 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg mL -1 , respectively. The dsDNA assay revealed initial protection and controlled release within the cells for 48 h. However, after 72 h, there was an increase of 20 ± 0.2%, 16 ± 0.2%, 32 ± 0.2%, and 43 ± 0.2% to 12.5, 25, and 50 μg mL -1 . The analysis of ROS generation demonstrated a reduction of 40 ± 0.2%, 33 ± 0.2%, 20 ± 0.2%, and 9 ± 0.2% to 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg mL -1 , respectively, within 72 h. When compared to the negative control (NC), there was an increase of 50 ± 0.2%, 56 ± 0.2%, 77 ± 0.2%, and 92 ± 0.2% at the same concentrations, suggesting that the nanoparticles generated free radicals, leading to cellular inflammation. This was attributed to the positive surface charge of the nanoparticles, resulting in reduced interaction with the cell membrane and the subsequent release of hydroxyl (•OH), which caused inflammatory processes in the cells. Sediments contaminated with hazardous metals pose risks to humans and wildlife, yet viable management options are scarce. In a series of laboratory experiments, we characterized Polonite® - an activated calcium-silicate - as a novel sorbent for thin-layer capping of metal-contaminated sediments. We tested a fine-grained by-product from the Polonite production as a cheap and sustainable sorbent. First, Polonite was reacted with solutions of Cu, Pb, and Zn, and the surface chemistry of the Polonite was examined using, e.g., scanning electron microscopy to investigate metal sorption mechanisms. Batch experiments were conducted by adding Polonite to industrially contaminated harbor sediment to determine sorption kinetics and isotherms. Importantly, we measured if the Polonite could reduce metal bioavailability to sediment fauna by performing digestive fluid extraction (DFE). Finally, a cap placement technique was studied by applying a Polonite slurry in sedimentation columns. The results showed rapid metal sorption to Polonite via several mechanisms, including hydroxide and carbonate precipitation, and complexation with metal oxides on the Polonite surface. Isotherm data revealed that the sediment uptake capacity (K f ) for Cu, Pb, and Zn increased by a factor of 25, 21, and 14, respectively, after addition of 5% Polonite. The bioavailability of Cu, Pb, and Zn was reduced by 70%, 65%, and 54%, respectively, after a 25% Polonite addition. A synergistic photocatalytic system based on Fe-based perovskite with persulfate was constructed for alkali lignin (AL) degradation in pulp and paper wastewater. The degradation performance and mechanism on AL were carried out under ambient temperature and pressure, accompanied by visible light irradiation. The results showed that the synergistic photocatalytic system exhibited much better performance on AL degradation than the single catalytic system. The degradation efficiency reached 73.5% under the optimal conditions and was constant at around 65% over the pH range from 2 to 8. A significant escalation of the AL degradation was observed at pH 10, reaching 80.1%. The photogenerated holes, 1 O 2 and SO 4 - ·, generated by the system were involved in the degradation, and the holes played a dominant role. During the degradation process, the efficient promotion of cleavage events in lignin methoxy, β-O-4 bond, and benzene ring was observed. Consequently, the depolymerization process led to the generation of high-value compounds, namely p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and vanillin. Remarkably, the yields of the high-value compounds in the synergistic photocatalytic system were five times larger than those in the control. Objective: To evaluate experimental dimethacrylate-based materials containing calcium orthophosphates or calcium silicate particles in terms of their optical, mechanical and Ca 2+ release behaviour., Methods: Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), hydroxyapatite (HAp), beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) or calcium silicate (CaSi) particles were added to a photocurable BisGMA/TEGDMA resin (1:1 in mols) at a 30 vol% fraction. Materials containing silanized or non-silanized barium glass particles were used as controls. Degree of conversion (DC) at the top and base of 2-mm thick specimens was determined by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy (n = 5). Translucency parameter (TP) and transmittance (%T) were determined using a spectrophotometer (n = 3). Biaxial flexural strength (BFS) and flexural modulus (FM) were determined by biaxial flexural testing after 24 h storage in water (n = 10). Ca 2+ release in water was determined during 28 days by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (n = 3). Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA/Tukey test (DC: two-way; TP, %T; BFS and FM: one-way; Ca 2+ release: repeated measures two-way, α = 5 %)., Results: CaSi and β-TCP particles drastically reduced DC at 2 mm, TP and %T (p < 0.001). Compared to both controls, all Ca 2+ -releasing materials presented lower BFS (p < 0.001) and only the material with DCPD showed significantly lower FM (p < 0.05). The material containing CaSi presented the highest Ca 2+ release, while among materials formulated with calcium orthophosphates the use of DCPD resulted in the highest release (p < 0.001)., Significance: CaSi particles allowed the highest Ca 2+ release. In the current study, Coccinia grandis fruit extract was used to synthesize calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) in an economical and environmentally friendly manner. UV-Vis spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the phytoconstituents found in Coccinia grandis fruit extract facilitated the production of CaO NPs by acting as better stabilizing, biodegradable, and reducing agents. The synthesized CG-CaO NPs were also tested for photocatalytic activity in the breakdown of selective dyes such as methyl red, methyl orange, and methylene blue in the presence of sunlight. The degradation percentage was determined by analyzing the color removal rates for all dye components. After 6 h of reaction, the IC 50 values for methyl red, methyl orange, as well as methylene blue dyes were 73, 107, and 133, respectively. The CG-CaO NPs were further evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against specific bacteria and fungi using the agar-well diffusion method. 200 μg/mL CG-CaO NPs inhibited Aspergillus niger, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Streptococcus mutans, and Staphylococcus aureus at zones of 13, 14, 16, 14, and 15 mM, respectively. Further checkerboard assay confirmed the antagonism effect with gentamicin. Also, Artemia salina toxicity assay showed that the LD50 value of CaO NPs was 400 μg/mL of CaO NPs. In this work, the perovskite LaZnO 3 was synthesized via sol-gel method and applied for photocatalytic treatment of sulfamethizole (SMZ) antibiotics under visible light activation. SMZ was almost completely degraded (99.2% ± 0.3%) within 4 hr by photocatalyst LaZnO 3 at the optimal dosage of 1.1 g/L, with a mineralization proportion of 58.7% ± 0.4%. The efficient performance of LaZnO 3 can be attributed to its wide-range light absorption and the appropriate energy band edge levels, which facilitate the formation of active agents such as ·O 2 - , h + , and ·OH. The integration of RP-HPLC/Q-TOF-MS and DFT-based computational techniques revealed three degradation pathways of SMZ, which were initiated by the deamination reaction at the aniline ring, the breakdown of the sulfonamide moieties, and a process known as Smile-type rearrangement and SO 2 intrusion. Corresponding toxicity of SMZ and the intermediates were analyzed by quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR), indicating the effectiveness of LaZnO 3 -based photocatalysis in preventing secondary pollution of the intermediates to the ecosystem during the degradation process. CaO modified with acetic acid solution or sodium hydroxide (H-CaO/OH-CaO) was used to explore the relationship between the physical and chemical properties of CaO and the components of bio-oil during the pyrolysis of rice straw (RS) and model compounds via experiment and density functional theory(DFT) simulation. The results showed that the modification changed the properties of CaO, and thus the catalytic performance on production of bio-oil components. H-CaO with the larger number of strong basic sites (1.10 ∼ 2 times than commercial CaO) and the longer Ca-O bond length showed the better selectivity and performance on formation of ketones (the maximum relative content in bio-oil reached 43 %). The conversion pathway of cellulose/hemicellulose was changed by H-CaO, which promoted the formation of ketones. The significant production of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI FA) underscores the importance of developing efficient solidification materials. This study employed MgO and CaO for immobilizing MSWI FA (with a 70% fly ash incorporation), and the immobilization effect was compared with that of Portland cement (PC). Experimental findings revealed that MgO exhibited the most effective stabilization for heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) compared to CaO and PC. XRD, FTIR, TG, and SEM analysis indicated that the principal hydration products in MSWI FA binders solidified with MgO, CaO, and PC were Mg(OH) 2 , CaCO 3 , and C-S-H gel, respectively. Mg(OH) 2 efficiently immobilized heavy metals through chemical complexation and surface adsorption mechanisms. The MgO-treated MSWI FA demonstrated the highest residual fractions and the lowest easily leachable fractions. Moreover, the leaching characteristics of heavy metals were significantly influenced by the pH level, so MgO-treated MSWI FA with a leachate pH of 9.18 achieved the precipitation and stabilization of most heavy metals. Minimally invasive surgery continues to prioritize patient safety by improving imaging techniques and tumor detection methods. In this work, an all-optical alternative to the current image based techniques for in vitro minimally invasive procedures has been explored. The technique uses a highly fluorescent marker for the surgical needle to be tracked inside simulated tissues. A series of markers were explored including inorganic (Perovskite and PbS) and organic (carbon dots) nanoparticles and organic dye (Rhodamine 6G) to identify layers of different stiffnesses within a tissue. Rhodamine 6G was chosen based on its high fluorescence signal to track 3D position of a surgical needle in a tissue. The needle was tracked inside homogeneous and inhomogeneous gelatin tissues successfully. This exploratory study of tissue characterization and needle tip tracking using fluorescent markers or photoluminescence technique show potential for real-time application of robot-assisted needle insertions during in vivo procedures.

Tissue engineering scaffolds are three-dimensional structures that provide an appropriate environment for cellular attachment, proliferation, and differentiation. Depending on their specific purpose, these scaffolds must possess distinct features, including appropriate mechanical properties, porosity, desired degradation rate, and cell compatibility. This investigation aimed to fabricate a new nanocomposite scaffold using a 3D printing technique composed of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/Gelatin (GEL)/ordered mesoporous calcium-magnesium silicate (om-CMS) particles. Different weight ratios of om-CMS were added and optimized, and a series of scaffolds were constructed for comparison purposes, including PCL 50%/Gel 50%, PCL 50%/Gel 45%/om-CMS%5, and PCL 50%/Gel 40%/om-CMS%10. The optimized weight ratio of om-CMS was 10% without leaving behind negative effects on the filaments' structure. The scaffolds' physical and chemical properties were assessed using various techniques, and their degradation rate, bioactivity potential, cell viability, attachment, and ALP activity were evaluated in vitro. BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the time-dependent release of calcium (Ca⁺⁺) and hydroxyl (OH⁻) ions from 3 different pulp dressing materials used to cap root canal orifices in pulpotomized premolars. MATERIAL AND METHODS Freshly extracted (n=40) premolars were subjected to standardized pulpotomy procedure and finally restored in 5 groups using resin-modified glass ionmmer liner (RMGI) and bonded resin composite directly against the pulp chamber's floor (Control, G2) and over 3 different orifices' capping materials - Dycal (G3), Endo Sequence root repair material (ESRRM, G4), and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Angelus (G5). Another 10 sound premolars served as the Reference group (G1). The restored teeth were incubated at 37±1°C in sealed containers filled with deionized water to assess Ca⁺⁺ and OH⁻ ions release after 24 h and at 1, 4, and 8 weeks. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey's comparisons at alpha=0.05 were used to statistically analyze the collected data. RESULTS Two-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in Ca⁺⁺ ions between test groups at different testing time intervals (P<0.05). Despite the constant (Tukey's, P<0.05) pH levels (OH⁻ release), Group 5 specimens exhibited higher Ca⁺⁺ ion release in comparison to Groups 4 and 3 at different testing timepoints (Tukey's, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Although all the assessed pulp dressing materials had equivalent and stable pH levels, ESRRM and MTA-Angelus had the highest Ca⁺⁺ ion release at the assessment intervals.

This study compared the chemical and physical properties of an experimental radiopaque white Portland cement (REPC) with reduced particle size to ProRoot white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA). The particle size distribution of experimental Portland cement (EPC) was examined, and then nano-zirconium oxide (nano-ZrO) was added to produce REPC. Chemical analysis, initial setting time, pH values, and push-out bond strength were evaluated. Results showed that REPC had smallest particle size (354.5±26.45 nm), while PC had the largest (1,309.67±60.54 nm) (p<0.05). Differences in chemical composition were observed. REPC exhibited shorter setting time (32.7±0.58 min) compared to WMTA (131.67±2.89 min) and PC (163.33±2.89 min) (p<0.05). All groups showed alkaline pH (p<0.05). REPC demonstrated the highest push-out bond strength (22.24±4.33 MPa) compared with WMTA (15.53±3.26 MPa) and PC (16.8±5.43 MPa) (p<0.05). This cost-effective PC formulation reduced the setting time and increased the push-out bond strength while maintaining the alkaline properties of the original cements.

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are emerging gas-sensing materials and have attracted considerable attention in gas sensors due to their unique bandgap structure and tunable optoelectronic properties. The past decade has witnessed significant developments in the gas-sensing field; however, their intrinsic structural instability and ambiguous gas-sensing mechanisms hamper their practical applications. Herein, we summarize the recent advances in MHP-based gas sensors. The physicochemical properties of MHPs are discussed at first. The structure design, including dimension design and engineering design, is overviewed as well as their fabrication methods, and we put forward our insights into the gas-sensing mechanism of MHPs. It is believed that enhanced understanding of gas-sensing mechanisms of MHPs are helpful for their application as gas-sensing materials, and structure design can enhance their stability, sensing sensitivity, and selectivity to target gases as gas sensors. Subsequently, the latest developments in MHP-based gas sensors are summarized according to their different application scenarios. Finally, we conclude with the current status and challenges in this field and propose future perspectives.

As a gasotransmitter, endogenous sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ) plays an important role in cardiovascular regulation. In addition, excessive SO 2 can react with overexpressed hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) in tumor cells to generate toxic radicals, which can induce severe oxidative damage to tumor cells and result in cell apoptosis. This highlights the potential of SO 2 in oncotherapy. However, the limited availability of endogenous H 2 O 2 and uncontrolled release of SO 2 gas significantly impede the effectiveness of SO 2 gas therapy. To address this challenge, a biodegradable calcium sulfite (CS) nanocarrier loaded with 10-hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT) was developed for tumor pH-triggered SO 2 gas therapy in combination with chemotherapy. This nanoreactor could be degraded in an acidic tumor microenvironment to release SO 2 gas and the HCPT drug. The released SO 2 gas induced serious oxidative damage to tumor cells by depleting glutathione (GSH) and generating toxic radicals through a reaction with intracellular H 2 O 2 . Simultaneously, the HCPT drug promoted tumor cell apoptosis through chemotherapy and boosted SO 2 gas therapy by elevating the H 2 O 2 level within the tumor cells. Consequently, the combination of SO 2 gas therapy and chemotherapy provided a promising approach for effective tumor treatment.

Preparation of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with long-lasting passivation effectiveness is challenging. Here, we present a protocol for fabricating efficient and stable passivated perovskite solar cells. We describe steps for preparing the electron transporting layer (ETL) via chemical bath deposition and perovskite film. We then detail procedures for passivating the surface defects with excess terpyridine ligands and stability characterization. This protocol features a passivator-terpyridine whose passivation effect is independent of concentration, which greatly improves the durability of the passivation. Background: Apexification is a procedure that promotes apical closure by forming mineralized tissue in the apex region of a nonvital young permanent tooth. Calcium silicate-based cement like Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine are commonly employed as apical barriers to facilitate this process. Microleakage, defined as the leakage along the junction between the canal wall and filling material, is a crucial aspect to assess in MTA and Biodentine applications as apical barriers, as it directly impacts the prevention of bacterial seepage and maintenance of structural integrity. The current study aims to assess the microleakage of MTA and Biodentine when used as apical barriers in simulated young permanent teeth., Methods: From a total of 128 extracted teeth, 114 were selected for the study and randomly allocated into three groups: G1 (MTA), G2 (Biodentine), and G3 (Control), with 38 teeth per group. After excluding 5 teeth from each group due to issues such as canal calcification, breakage during sectioning, and procedural errors, 33 teeth were analyzed to ensure equal distribution. To simulate young permanent teeth, samples were instrumented using a person-reamer with a diameter of 1.7 mm. A 4 mm thick apical plug of MTA and Biodentine was placed in G1 and G2, respectively, while G3 was the control group. Apical microleakage in all experimental groups was assessed using a dye penetration method. Specimens were longitudinally sectioned and examined under a stereomicroscope with graded eyepiece., Results: The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed variations in mean apical microleakage among the groups: G1 recorded 0.67, G2-0.16, and G3-1.62, with G2 showing the lowest value and G3 group exhibiting the highest., Conclusions: Biodentine was found to excel in its ability to create a secure seal and function effectively as an apical barrier in simulated young permanent teeth. Water contamination is a serious issue that has an impact on the whole globe. In the current work, adsorption technique was used to remove synthetic Reactive Blue MEBF 222 textile dye utilizing Cd-doped Co (Co 1 - x Cd 1.5x FeO 3 ), Zn-doped Co (Co 1 - x Zn 1.5x FeO 3 ), Cr-doped Co (Co 1 - x Cr 1.5x FeO 3 ), Zn-doped Ni (Ni 1 - x Zn 1.5x FeO 3 ), and Cr-doped Ni (Ni 1 - x Cr 1.5x FeO 3 ) perovskites, synthesized by sol-gel auto-combustion approach. According to the findings of batch adsorption studies, maximum adsorption was observed at pH 3 (45.62 mg/g), 0.01 g/50 ml dosage (36.67 mg/g), 60 min (14.31 mg/g), 100 ppm dye concentration (47.41 mg/g), and 308 K (35.96 mg/g) for Co 1 - x Cd 1.5x FeO 3 ; at 3 pH (42.94 mg/g), 0.01 g/50 ml dosage (35.33 mg/g), 60 min (12.88 mg/g), 100 ppm dye concentration (40.52 mg/g), and 308 K (31.31 mg/g) for Co 1 - x Zn 1.5x FeO 3 ; at 2 pH (38.82 mg/g), 0.01 g/50 ml dosage (32.20 mg/g), 60 min (11.98 mg/g), 100 ppm dye concentration (33.54 mg/g), and 308 K (29.34 mg/g) for Co 1 - x Cr 1.5x FeO 3 ; at 2 pH (34.97 mg/g), 0.01 g/50 ml dosage (30.41 mg/g), 60 min (10.46 mg/g), 100 ppm dye concentration (27.19 mg/g), and 308 K (26.12 mg/g) for Ni 1 - x Zn 1.5x FeO 3 ; and at 2 pH (31.22 mg/g), 0.01 g/50 ml dosage (25.04 mg/g), 60 min (9.48 mg/g), 100 ppm dye concentration (21.73 mg/g), and 308 K (23.61 mg/g) for Ni 1 - x Cr 1.5x FeO 3 . The pseudo-second-order model showed good fitness for adsorption kinetic data. Electrolytes, detergents/surfactants, and heavy metal ions had a substantial impact on the adsorption potential. The column adsorption experiments demonstrated optimal bed height, flow rate, and intake dye concentration to be 3 cm, 1.8 ml/min, and 70 mg/l, respectively, in the column experiment. With an adsorption capacity of 44.1 mg/g, reactive blue (RB) 222 dye was able to achieve its maximum adsorption. Detailed desorption of RB 222 dye was also achieved. Background: This study aims to evaluate the compressive strength, solubility, radiopacity, and flow of Bromelain (BR)-modified Biodentine (BD) for direct pulp capping (DPC). This is suggested to determine the impact of BR on the physical properties of BD., Methods: Eighty samples were prepared according to the ISO and ADA specifications and evaluated for compressive strength, solubility, radiopacity, and flow. The compressive strength was evaluated at 24 h and 21 days via a universal testing machine. The solubility was determined by weight loss after 24-hours immersion in deionized water. Radiopacity was assessed via X-ray with aluminum step-wedges, and flow was measured by the diameter of the discs under a standard weight. Independent sample t-tests were used to statistically assess the data. A significance level of 5% was considered., Results: The compressive strength was 41.08 ± 1.84 MPa for BD and 40.92 ± 1.80 MPa for BR + BD after 24 h, and 88.93 ± 3.39 MPa for BD and 87.92 ± 3.76 MPa for BR + BD after 21 days, with no significant differences. Solubility was slightly greater in the BR + BD (2.75 ± 0.10%) compared to BD (2.62 ± 0.25%), but not significantly different. The radiopacity was similar between BD (2.82 ± 0.11 mm) and BR + BD (2.73 ± 0.10 mm). BR + BD resulted in significantly greater flow (9.99 ± 0.18 mm) than did BD (9.65 ± 0.27 mm) (p ≤ 0.05)., Conclusion: BR-modified BD maintains BD's physical properties, with improved flow, making it a promising DPC agent that warrants further study., (© 2024. Multiphoton fluorescence microscopy is a powerful tool for imaging and exploring biological tissue at subcellular spatial resolution while minimizing photobleaching and autofluorescence. For optimal performance in multiphoton microscopy, materials exhibiting a large multiphoton absorption cross section (σ n ) and fluorescence quantum yield are desired. Notably, perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbX 3 , PNCs) exhibit exceptionally large two-, three-, up to five photon absorption cross section (σ 2 ∼ 10 6 GM, σ 3 ∼ 10 -73 cm 6 s 2 photon -2 , σ 5 ∼ 10 -136 cm 10 s 4 photon -4 ), along with near unity fluorescence quantum yield, making them desirable for deep tissue applications. Here, we employed PNCs as contrast agents to image mesenchymal stromal cells in a living mouse. The PNCs were stabilized by encapsulating them in a SiO 2 matrix (∼60-70 nm in diameter), offering versatility for subsequent surface modification to target specific biological entities for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Multiphoton imaging of PNCs offers substantial benefits for dynamic tracking of cells in deep tissue, such as in understanding immune cell migration and other biological processes in both healthy and diseased tissues.

Accurately distinguishing tumor cells from normal cells is a key issue in tumor diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment. Fluorescence-based immunohistochemistry as the standard method faces the inherent challenges of the heterogeneity of tumor cells and the lack of big data analysis of probing images. Here, we have demonstrated a machine learning-driven imaging method for rapid pathological diagnosis of five types of cancers (breast, colon, liver, lung, and stomach) using a perovskite nanocrystal probe. After conducting the bioanalysis of survivin expression in five different cancers, high-efficiency perovskite nanocrystal probes modified with the survivin antibody can recognize the cancer tissue section at the single cell level. The tumor to normal (T/N) ratio is 10.3-fold higher than that of a conventional fluorescent probe, which can successfully differentiate between tumors and adjacent normal tissues within 10 min. The features of the fluorescence intensity and pathological texture morphology have been extracted and analyzed from 1000 fluorescence images by machine learning. The final integrated decision model makes the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (area under the curve) value of machine learning classification of breast, colon, liver, lung, and stomach above 90% while predicting the tumor organ of 92% of positive patients. This method demonstrates a high T/N ratio probe in the precise diagnosis of multiple cancers, which will be good for improving the accuracy of surgical resection and reducing cancer mortality.

The present study deals with the assessment of different physicochemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity (E.C.), turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), and dissolved oxygen) in different surface water such as pond, river, and canal water in four different seasons, viz. March, June, September, and December 2023. The research endeavors to assess the impact of a cationic polyelectrolyte, specifically poly(diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) (PDADMAC), utilized as a coagulation aid in conjunction with lime for water treatment. Employing a conventional jar test apparatus, turbidity removal from diverse water samples is examined. Furthermore, the samples undergo characterization utilizing X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The study also conducts correlation analyses on various parameters such as electrical conductivity (EC), pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity of raw water, polyelectrolyte dosage, and percentage of turbidity removal across different water sources. Utilizing the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, these analyses aim to establish robust relationships among initial turbidity, temperature, percentage of turbidity removal, dosage of coagulant aid, electrical conductivity, and total dissolved solids (TDS) in pond water, river water, and canal water. A strong positive correlation could be found between the percentage of turbidity removal and the value of initial turbidity of all surface water. However, a negative correlation could be observed between the polyelectrolyte dosage and raw water's turbidity. By elucidating these correlations, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of PDADMAC and lime in water treatment processes across diverse environmental conditions. This research enhances our comprehension of surface water treatment methodologies and provides valuable insights for optimizing water treatment strategies to address the challenges posed by varying water sources and seasonal fluctuations., (© 2024.
