1. On the structure of graded Lie superalgebras

Abstract

We study the structure of graded Lie superalgebras with arbitrary dimension and over an arbitrary field ${\mathbb K}$. We show that any of such algebras ${\mathfrak L}$ with a symmetric $G$-support is of the form ${\mathfrak L} = U + \sum\limits_{j}I_{j}$ with $U$ a subspace of ${\mathfrak L}_1$ and any $I_{j}$ a well described graded ideal of ${\mathfrak L}$, satisfying $[I_j,I_k] = 0$ if $j\neq k$. Under certain conditions, it is shown that ${\mathfrak L} = (\bigoplus\limits_{k \in K} I_k) \oplus (\bigoplus\limits_{q \in Q} I_q),$ where any $I_k$ is a gr-simple graded ideal of ${\mathfrak L}$ and any $I_q$ a completely determined low dimensional non gr-simple graded ideal of ${\mathfrak L}$, satisfying $[I_q,I_{q'}] = 0$ for any $q'\in Q$ with $q \neq q'$.

2. Modules over linear spaces admitting a multiplicative basis

Abstract

We study the structure of certain modules $V$ over linear spaces $W$ with restrictions neither on the dimensions nor on the base field $\mathbb F$. A basis $\mathfrak B = \{v_i\}_{i\in I}$ of $V$ is called multiplicative respect to the basis $\mathfrak B' = \{w_j\}_{j \in J}$ of $W$ if for any $i \in I, j \in J$ we have either $v_iw_j = 0$ or $0 \neq v_iw_j \in \mathbb Fv_k$ for some $k \in I$. We show that if $V$ admits a multiplicative basis then it decomposes as the direct sum $V=\bigoplus_k V_k$ of well-described submodules admitting each one a multiplicative basis. Also the minimality of $V$ is characterized in terms of the multiplicative basis and it is shown that the above direct sum is by means of the family of its minimal submodules, admitting each one a multiplicative basis.

Abstract

We consider a Leibniz algebra ${\mathfrak L} = {\mathfrak I} \oplus {\mathfrak V}$ over an arbitrary base field $\mathbb{F}$, being ${\mathfrak I}$ the ideal generated by the products $[x,x], x \in {\mathfrak L}$. This ideal has a fundamental role in the study presented in our paper. A basis $\B=\{v_i\}_{i \in I}$ of ${\mathfrak L}$ is called multiplicative if for any $i,j \in I$ we have that $[v_i,v_j] \in {\mathbb F}v_k$ for some $k \in I$. We associate an adequate graph $\Gamma({\mathfrak L},\B)$ to ${\mathfrak L}$ relative to $\B$. By arguing on this graph we show that ${\mathfrak L}$ decomposes as a direct sum of ideals, each one being associated to one connected component of $\Gamma({\mathfrak L},\B)$. Also the minimality of ${\mathfrak L}$ and the division property of ${\mathfrak L}$ are characterized in terms of the weak symmetry of the defined subgraphs $\Gamma({\mathfrak L},\B_{\mathfrak I})$ and $\Gamma({\mathfrak L},\B_{\mathfrak V})$.

4. Decompositions of linear operators on pre-euclidean spaces by means of graphs

Abstract

In this work we study a linear operator $f$ on a pre-euclidean space $\mathcal{V}$ by using properties of a corresponding graph. Given a basis $\B$ of $\mathcal{V}$, we present a decomposition of $\mathcal{V}$ as an orthogonal direct sum of certain linear subspaces $\{U_i\}_{i \in I}$, each one admitting a basis inherited from $\B$, in such way that $f = \sum_{i \in I}f_i$, being each $f_i$ a linear operator satisfying certain conditions respect with $U_i$. Considering new hypothesis, we assure the existence of an isomorphism between the graphs associated to $f$ relative to two different bases. We also study the minimality of $\mathcal{V}$ by using the graph associated to $f$ relative to $\B$.

5. Weight modules over split Lie algebras

Abstract

We study the structure of weight modules $V$ with restrictions neither on the dimension nor on the base field, over split Lie algebras $L$. We show that if $L$ is perfect and $V$ satisfies $LV=V$ and ${\mathcal Z}(V)=0$, then $$\hbox{$L =\bigoplus\limits_{i\in I} I_{i}$ and $V = \bigoplus\limits_{j \in J} V_{j}$}$$ with any $I_{i}$ an ideal of $L$ satisfying $[I_{i},I_{k}]=0$ if $i \neq k$, and any $V_{j}$ a (weight) submodule of $V$ in such a way that for any $j \in J$ there exists a unique $i \in I$ such that $I_iV_j \neq 0,$ being $V_j$ a weight module over $I_i$. Under certain conditions, it is shown that the above decomposition of $V$ is by means of the family of its minimal submodules, each one being a simple (weight) submodule.

6. Graded pseudo-H-rings

Abstract

Consider a pseudo-$H$-space $E$ endowed with a separately continuous biadditive associative multiplication which induces a grading on $E$ with respect to an abelian group $G$. We call such a space a graded pseudo-$H$-ring and we show that it has the form $E = cl(U + \sum_j I_j)$ with $U$ a closed subspace of $E_1$ (the summand associated to the unit element in $G$), and any $I_j$ runs over a well described closed graded ideal of $E$, satisfying $I_jI_k = 0$ if $j \neq k$. We also give a context in which graded simplicity of $E$ is characterized. Moreover, the second Wedderburn-type theorem is given for certain graded pseudo-$H$-rings.

Abstract

We introduce the class of split regular Hom-Lie superalgebras as the natural extension of the one of split Hom-Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras, and study its structure by showing that an arbitrary split regular Hom-Lie superalgebra ${\frak L}$ is of the form ${\frak L} = U + \sum_j I_j$ with $U$ a linear subspace of a maximal abelian graded subalgebra $H$ and any $I_j$ a well described (split) ideal of ${\frak L}$ satisfying $[I_j,I_k] = 0$ if $j \neq k$. Under certain conditions, the simplicity of ${\frak L}$ is characterized and it is shown that ${\frak L}$ is the direct sum of the family of its simple ideals.

Abstract

In this paper we generalize the Skjelbred Sund method, used to classify nilpotent Lie algebras, in order to classify triple systems with non zero annihilator. We develop this method with the purpose of classifying nilpotent Lie triple systems, obtaining from it the algebraic classification of the nilpotent Lie triple systems up to dimension four. Additionally, we obtain the geometric classification of the variety of nilpotent Lie triple systems up to dimension four.

10. Teaching about Curriculum and Assessment through Inquiry and Problem-Based Learning Methodologies: An Initial Teacher Education Cross-Institutional Study

Abstract

It is well documented that the integration of inquiry-based learning (IBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) methodologies in initial teacher education (ITE) provides opportunities to enhance pre-service teachers' research skills. However, few studies articulate the processes by which teacher educators implement and sustain these approaches in cross-institutional collaboration. This paper explores the journey of two teacher educators and their pre-service teachers, within a cross-institutional study on curriculum and assessment, problematising aspects of the longitudinal application of IBL and PBL methodologies. Dialogical reflections by the teacher educators and a critical friend, along with student questionnaires, were analysed in this three-year action research study. Findings demonstrate an increase in pre-service teachers' research skills but limited transferability of learning to teaching. The papers' central contribution proposes that as ITE reconfiguration evolves programmes can capitalise upon cross-institutional professional collaborations between teacher educators. Collaborative IBL and PBL learning spaces can be creatively explored to enhance transferability, developing pre-service teachers as researchers, a core element of initial teacher education programme accreditation.

Abstract

We introduce the class of graded Lie-Rinehart algebras as a natural generalization of the one of graded Lie algebras. For $G$ an abelian group, we show that if $L$ is a tight $G$-graded Lie-Rinehart algebra over an associative and commutative $G$-graded algebra $A$ then $L$ and $A$ decompose as the orthogonal direct sums $L = \bigoplus_{i \in I}I_i$ and $A = \bigoplus_{j \in J}A_j$, where any $I_i$ is a non-zero ideal of $L$, any $A_j$ is a non-zero ideal of $A$, and both decompositions satisfy that for any $i \in I$ there exists a unique $j \in J$ such that $A_jI_i \neq 0$. Furthermore, any $I_i$ is a graded Lie-Rinehart algebra over $A_j$. Abstract

Let ${\mathbb V}$ be an $n$-dimensional linear space over an algebraically closed base field. We provide a classification, up to equivalence, of all of the bilinear maps $f:{\mathbb V} \times {\mathbb V} \to {\mathbb V}$ such that $dim(rad(f)) =n-2$. This is equivalent to give a complete classification (up to isomorphism) of all $n$-dimensional algebras with annihilator of dimension $n-2$ or, in other words, a classification of the annihilator extensions of all $2$-dimensional algebras.

Abstract

Let $\mathbb V$ be an arbitrary linear space and $f:\mathbb V \times \ldots \times \mathbb V \to \mathbb V$ an $n$-linear map. It is proved that, for each choice of a basis ${\mathcal B}$ of $\mathbb V$, the $n$-linear map $f$ induces a (nontrivial) decomposition $\mathbb V= \oplus V_j$ as a direct sum of linear subspaces of $\mathbb V$, with respect to ${\mathcal B}$. It is shown that this decomposition is $f$-orthogonal in the sense that $f(\mathbb V, \ldots, V_j, \ldots, V_k, \ldots, \mathbb V) =0$ when $j \neq k$, and in such a way that any $V_j$ is strongly $f$-invariant, meaning that $f(\mathbb V, \ldots, V_j, \ldots, \mathbb V) \subset V_j.$ A sufficient condition for two different decompositions of $\mathbb V$ induced by an $n$-linear map $f$, with respect to two different bases of $\mathbb V$, being isomorphic is deduced. The $f$-simplicity -- an analogue of the usual simplicity in the framework of $n$-liner maps -- of any linear subspace $V_j$ of a certain decomposition induced by $f$ is characterized. Finally, an application to the structure theory of arbitrary $n$-ary algebras is provided. This work is a close generalization the results obtained by A. J. Calder\'on (2018).

The class of generalized Lie-type color algebras contains the ones of generalized Lie-type algebras, of $n$-Lie algebras and superalgebras, commutative Leibniz $n$-ary algebras and superalgebras, among others. We focus on the class of generalized Lie-type color algebras $\frak L$ admitting a quasi-multiplicative basis, with restrictions neither on the dimensions nor on the base field $\mathbb F$ and study its structure. If we write $\frak L = \mathbb V \oplus \mathbb W$ with $\mathbb V$ and $0 \neq \mathbb W$ linear subspaces, we say that a basis of homogeneous elements $\mathfrak{B} = \{e_i\}_{i \in I}$ of $\mathbb W$ is quasi-multiplicative if given $0 < k < n,$ for $i_1,\dots,i_k \in I$ and $\sigma \in \mathbb S_n$ satisfies $\langle e_{i_1}, \dots, e_{i_k}, \mathbb V, \dots, \mathbb V \rangle_{\sigma} \subset \mathbb{F}e_{j_{\sigma}}$ for some $j_{\sigma} \in I;$ the product of elements of the basis $\langle e_{i_1}, \dots, e_{i_n} \rangle$ belongs to $\mathbb{F}e_j$ for some $j \in I$ or to $\mathbb V$, and a similar condition is verified for the product $\langle \mathbb V, \dots,\mathbb V \rangle$. We state that if $\frak L$ admits a quasi-multiplicative basis then it decomposes as $\mathfrak{L} ={\mathcal U} \oplus (\sum\limits {\frak J}_{k})$ with any ${\frak J}_k$ a well described color gLt-ideal of $\frak L$ admitting also a quasi-multiplicative basis, and ${\mathcal U}$ a linear subspace of $\mathbb V$. Also the minimality of $\frak L$ is characterized in terms of the connections and it is shown that the above direct sum is by means of the family of its minimal color gLt-ideals, admitting each one a $\mu$-quasi-multiplicative basis inherited by the one of $\frak L$.

Abstract

We introduce the class of split Lie-Rinehart algebras as the natural extension of the one of split Lie algebras. We show that if $L$ is a tight split Lie-Rinehart algebra over an associative and commutative algebra $A,$ then $L$ and $A$ decompose as the orthogonal direct sums $L = \bigoplus_{i \in I}L_i$, $A = \bigoplus_{j \in J}A_j$, where any $L_i$ is a nonzero ideal of $L$, any $A_j$ is a nonzero ideal of $A$, and both decompositions satisfy that for any $i \in I$ there exists a unique $\tilde{i} \in J$ such that $A_{\tilde{i}}L_i \neq 0$. Furthermore any $L_i$ is a split Lie-Rinehart algebra over $A_{\tilde{i}}$. Also, under mild conditions, it is shown that the above decompositions of $L$ and $A$ are by means of the family of their, respective, simple ideals.

31. Exploring Primary Pre-Service Teachers' Use of 'Assessment for Learning' While Teaching Primary Physical Education during School Placement

Abstract

Background: Despite the consensus regarding the value of school placement experiences for primary pre-service teachers (PSTs) in teacher education programmes, challenges remain in PSTs' ability to transfer the knowledge gained on assessment for learning (AfL) in their initial teacher education (ITE) programmes to the reality of the primary classroom. Furthermore, although there has been a significant growth of interest in assessment literacy and how this can impact teachers' use of AfL to enhance teaching and support student learning, there has been no research relating to primary PSTs' assessment literacy in enacting AfL in physical education. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the extent that primary PSTs demonstrate assessment literacy in their enactment of AfL while teaching physical education during school placement. Methods: Participants included the teacher educator as researcher and four PSTs who were completing a two-year Professional Masters of Education in primary education to qualify as primary teachers. Using a longitudinal action research approach, the teacher educator generated data through participant observer field notes, primary PST reflective journals and individual primary PST interviews. The approach to data analysis involved data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. Verification took place after each phase using inductive and deductive data analysis, thematic data analysis and constant comparative analysis. Findings: The use of teacher educator modelling, mentoring, and scaffolding with primary school students, during upskill sessions and in-situ during the PST school placements, enhanced the PSTs' assessment literacy in the enactment of AfL in primary physical education to a greater extent than when implemented during the module with their PST peers. However, while greater student autonomy, more effective planning, and connections between curriculum, pedagogy and assessment were evident, AfL strategies such as self- and peer-assessment were not as evident in PSTs' overall assessment literacy. Conclusions: The teacher educators' role in modelling and mentoring PSTs on school placement made a significant impact on PSTs' delivery of AfL. Based on the findings of this study, opportunities for PSTs to practice AfL with primary school students during the physical education module developed higher levels of assessment literacy for PSTs during school placement than was facilitated through theoretical discussion and content. This paper highlights the difficulties in developing PST critical engagement with assessment data and the rationale for PST reluctance around enacting self- and peer-assessment. While student relational dynamics could have impacted on this, it could be concluded that such AfL strategies require time to practice and develop. In addition, the duration of each block of school placement may not have facilitated PSTs with adequate time to implement peer and self-assessment.

32. Conceptualising Examinable Physical Education in the Irish Context: Leaving Certificate Physical Education

Abstract

A Physical Education Development Group (PEDG) was responsible for constructing a new school subject curriculum, Leaving Certificate Physical Education (LCPE), in Ireland. This paper provides an insight into this development group and explores the process of curriculum development, and the influence of roles and power-ratios within the group, in the construction of the LCPE curriculum. Figurational sociology concepts (Elias, 1978) were drawn on to make sense of the curriculum makers' experiences. Interviews were conducted with 10 PEDG members. The findings suggest that the members' roles had very little, if any, influence on the curriculum development process. Findings also revolved around the unbalanced power-ratios which existed in the PEDG and highlighted the socially powerful position of 'strong, well-established' (in the academic field of curriculum development - participant's words) members and the other members (predominantly representing practicing teachers). We express concern for the role of teachers in the curriculum process and argue that they play a crucial and significant role in the school subject curriculum development process. This paper supports Goodson's (1983) and Penney's (2006) conceptualisation of the contested and socially constructed nature of the curriculum development process.

We show that if $T$ admits a multiplicative basis then it decomposes as the orthogonal direct sum $T= \bigoplus_k{\mathfrak I}_k$ of well-described ideals ${\mathfrak I}_k$ admitting each one a multiplicative basis. Also the minimality of $T$ is characterized in terms of the multiplicative basis and it is shown that, under a mild condition, the above direct sum is by means of the family of its minimal ideals.

Abstract

A Poisson algebra is a Lie algebra endowed with a commutative associative product in such a way that the Lie and associative products are compatible via a Leibniz rule. If we part from a Lie color algebra, instead of a Lie algebra, a graded-commutative associative product and a graded-version Leibniz rule we get a so-called Poisson color algebra (of degree zero). This concept can be extended to any degree so as to obtain the class of Poisson color algebras of arbitrary degree. This class turns out to be a wide class of algebras containing the ones of Lie color algebras (and so Lie superalgebras and Lie algebras), Poisson algebras, graded Poisson algebras, $z$-Poisson algebras, Gerstenhaber algebras and Schouten algebras among others classes of algebras. The present paper is devoted to the study of the structure of Poisson color algebras of arbitrary degree, with restrictions neither on the dimension nor the base field.

Abstract

It is well documented that the integration of inquiry-based learning (IBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) methodologies in initial teacher education (ITE) provides opportunities to enhance pre-service teachers' research skills. However, few studies articulate the processes by which teacher educators implement and sustain these approaches in cross-institutional collaboration. This paper explores the journey of two teacher educators and their pre-service teachers, within a cross-institutional study on curriculum and assessment, problematising aspects of the longitudinal application of IBL and PBL methodologies. Dialogical reflections by the teacher educators and a critical friend, along with student questionnaires, were analysed in this three-year action research study. Findings demonstrate an increase in pre-service teachers' research skills but limited transferability of learning to teaching. The papers' central contribution proposes that as ITE reconfiguration evolves programmes can capitalise upon cross-institutional professional collaborations between teacher educators. Collaborative IBL and PBL learning spaces can be creatively explored to enhance transferability, developing pre-service teachers as researchers, a core element of initial teacher education programme accreditation. Abstract

This report is the second of a series of reports from a 4-year longitudinal study exploring the implementation, enactment and impact of the Framework for Junior Cycle in post-primary schools in Ireland. The study employs a mixed-methods, multi-dimensional research design that aims to capture the views of teachers, principals, students, parents and wider educational stakeholders. This second interim report draws primarily on the research data collected from the twelve case study schools in the Spring of 2022. This data is complemented by the data set from the first phase of the teacher surveys.

47. Quantity and Quality of Practice: Interrelationships between Task Organization and Student Skill Level in Physical Education

Abstract

In terms of planning and achieving student learning in physical education, important variables that influence this goal include task organization, quantity and quality of practice, task structure, communication with students or feedback, appropriateness of the skills, and motivational climate. With respect to the construct of quality practice trials, goal achievement depends largely on how the teacher organizes his or her students. While a number of studies highlighted the importance of task planning and strict control over the tasks to enhance learning, little is known about student outcomes when they participate in different organizational formats within lessons. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of various forms of task organization (lines, circuits, and game-like activities) on the quantity and quality of closed skills practice in physical education classes. In this study, those skills were the track and field events of hurdles, high jump, and shot put (representing one run, one jump, and one throw). The results from this study suggest that organizing practice in circuits allows for the most practice as well as the highest proportion of successful practice. While a possible explanation for this may be that teachers can plan tasks with different levels of complexity and, hence, better accommodate students of different skill levels, closer examination of the data suggests that certain tradeoffs might be considered.
