Abstract

El resultado principal obtenido, se basa en la determinación de un coeficiente foliar para cada una de dos especies de plantas de interés para la investigación, la vainilla (Vanilla sp.) y la papa china [Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott]. El procedimiento seguido consiste en considerar una cantidad adecuada de nodos, tomando las medidas en un sistema de coordenadas rectangulares, ubicada la hoja de forma conveniente, a partir de los cuales se construye utilizando una modificación de la interpolación segmentada de segundo orden, que considera la condición sobre la segunda derivada, en lugar de la primera, con el propósito de modelar el borde de la hoja conservando la intensidad con la que se curva, identificada con la concavidad. Construido el borde de la hoja, se calcula el área que este encierra y se compara con la de un rectángulo que la contiene de forma inscrita, para determinar el coeficiente foliar que pueda ser utilizado en estudios sobre procesos de fotosíntesis en la planta. Son utilizadas dos modalidades de hojas para este fin, las hojas medidas experimentalmente y otro conjunto de hojas, generadas de forma artificial y proporcional, desde las de tamaño menor hasta las más grandes. Los cálculos se realizan con programas formulados en el Asistente Matemático Matlab. The main result obtained, it bases on the determination of a leaf coefficient for each one of two plant species of interest for the research, vanilla (Vanilla sp.) and Chinese potato [Colocasia esculenta (l.) Schott]. the procedure followed consists of considering an adequate number of nodes, taking the measurements in a rectangular coordinate system, it located the sheets in a convenient way, from which it is built using a modification of the second-order segmented interpolation, which is considered the condition on the second derivative, instead of the first, to model the edge of the leaf while preserving the intensity with which it curves, identified with the concavity. once the edge of the leaf is constructed, the area it contains is compared and it is compared with that of a rectangle contains it in an inscribed way, to determine the leaf coefficient that can be used in studies on photosynthesis processes in the plant. two types of leaves are used for this purpose, the leaves measured experimentally and another set of leaves, generated artificially and proportionally, from the smallest to the largest. the calculations are carried out with formulated programs through Matlab Mathematical Assistant. Abstract

Decision-making in highly altered catchments occurs at different temporal and spatial scales, requiring integration of various datasets and models. This paper introduces two of the components of an environmental multiscale decision support system (EMDSS) for highly altered catchments, designed to make decisions at different time scales. First, an integrated dynamic flow and water quality model is proposed to analyze the river system, including wastewater discharges and water intakes. This integrated model is capable of representing unsteady flow conditions, allowing analysis at different time scales. Second, three postprocessing tools are presented to support short- (hours to days), medium- (days to months), and long- (years to decades) term operational, management, and planning decisions. The water quality component of the model can represent conventional and toxic determinands to simultaneously analyze domestic and industrial pollution throughout a river system. The first postprocessing tool of the EMDSS is useful in defining concentration limits for wastewater discharges for different water users downstream. The second tool allows the assessment of river water quantity and quality to determine water availability for intake extensions and medium-term wastewater flow augmentation. The third makes it possible to simulate and perform effective operational reservoir releases to improve water quality in the river during short-term pollution incidents. The proposed integrated model and postprocessing tools are applied in the upper Bogotá River stretch in Colombia, one of the most altered catchments and polluted rivers in the world. The results obtained illustrate the utility of the proposed EMDSS for river management and decision making regarding water quality at different time scales.

28. OBESIDAD PREGESTACIONAL Y RIESGO DE INTOLERANCIA A LA GLUCOSA EN EL EMBARAZO Y DIABETES GESTACIONAL

Abstract

Antecedentes: La obesidad en mujeres en edad reproductiva es cada vez más frecuente y complica el embarazo aumentando el riesgo de enfermedades como la diabetes mellitus gestacional (DMG). Objetivo: Determinar el riesgo de presentar DMG e intolerancia a la glucosa (ITG) de acuerdo con el índice de masa corporal pregestacional (IMCPG). Método: Muestra de 489 pacientes, se clasificaron por IMCPG y se les realizó una curva de tolerancia oral a la glucosa (CTOG) de 100 g de 120 minutos. Se definió DMG con dos valores alterados en la CTOG e ITG con un solo valor alterado. Se aplicó prueba de chi cuadrada para determinar diferencia entre grupos y se obtuvo un Odds Ratio (OR), con intervalo de confianza del 95%. Resultados: 9 pacientes con bajo peso, 194 con peso normal, 158 con sobrepeso y 128 con obesidad, edad gestacional promedio 31,3 ± 5,6 semanas. El 13% de las pacientes presentaron DMG, el 10,6% ITG. Las mujeres con sobrepeso presentaron un OR de 3,81 para desarrollar ITG (IC95% 1,62-8,95) y un OR de 3,7 para DMG (IC95% 1,65-8,38), mientas que las pacientes con obesidad pregestacional presentaron un OR de 6,6 para desarrollar ITG (IC95% 2,83-15,66) y un OR de 8,8 para DMG (IC95% 4,05-19,51), comparadas con mujeres con peso pregestacional normal. Conclusión: La población mexicana tiene mayor riesgo de DMG que otras poblaciones y mayor prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad, por lo que se debe realizar un diagnóstico y tratamiento oportuno de DMG, previniendo complicaciones y diabetes mellitus tipo 2.Background: Obesity in women in reproductive age is becoming more frequent and it self complicates preg-nancy increasing the risk of diseases such as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Aims: To determine the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) according to the pregestational body mass index (PGBMI). Methods: Sample of 489 patients, they were classified by PGBMI and underwent an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) with 100 g of glucose during 120 minutes. GDM was defined with two altered valúes in the OGTT and IGT with a single altered value. A chi-square test was applied to determine difference between groups, and we obtained an Odds Ratio (OR), with a confidence level of 95%. Results: 9 patients were low weight, 194 normal weight, 158 overweight and 128 obese, average gestational age 31.3 ± 5.6 weeks. 13% of the patients had GDM, 10.6% had IGT. Overweight women had an OR of 3.81 of developing IGT (95% Cl 1.62-8.95) and an OR of 3.7 of developing GDM (95% Cl 1.65-8.38), while women with prepregnancy obesity showed an OR of 6.6 of developing ITG (95% Cl 2.83-15.66) and an OR of 8.8 of developing GDM (95% Cl 4.05-19.51), all compared to women with prepregnancy normal weight. Conclusions: Mexican population has a higher risk of GDM than other populations and also a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity, so that every pregnant woman should be screening for GDM, has a diagnosis and receive treatment, preventing complications and Type 2 Diabetes.

Abstract

The design of combined and stormwater sewer systems is usually accomplished assuming that rainfall is uniform in time and space for areas smaller than 1 km2. This paper aims to contribute to the knowledge of the space/time rainfall variability in urban basins of this kind. We investigate the impact of such variability on the design of sewage systems and, more importantly, on the runoff flows obtained through mathematical models rigorously calibrated and validated. Our case of study, the campus of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, sede Bogotá, was densely instrumented. Among the events thus recorded, we have analyzed one of the most important in terms of intensity and total rainfall. This paper describes the detailed results.

Abstract

Background: Convalescent plasma has been widely used to treat COVID-19 and is under investigation in numerous randomized clinical trials, but results are publicly available only for a small number of trials. The objective of this study was to assess the benefits of convalescent plasma treatment compared to placebo or no treatment and all-cause mortality in patients with COVID-19, using data from all available randomized clinical trials, including unpublished and ongoing trials (Open Science Framework, https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/GEHFX). Method(s): In this collaborative systematic review and meta-analysis, clinical trial registries (ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform), the Cochrane COVID-19 register, the LOVE database, and PubMed were searched until April 8, 2021. Investigators of trials registered by March 1, 2021, without published results were contacted via email. Eligible were ongoing, discontinued and completed randomized clinical trials that compared convalescent plasma with placebo or no treatment in COVID-19 patients, regardless of setting or treatment schedule. Aggregated mortality data were extracted from publications or provided by investigators of unpublished trials and combined using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman random effects model. We investigated the contribution of unpublished trials to the overall evidence. Result(s): A total of 16,477 patients were included in 33 trials (20 unpublished with 3190 patients, 13 published with 13,287 patients). 32 trials enrolled only hospitalized patients (including 3 with only intensive care unit patients). Risk of bias was low for 29/33 trials. Of 8495 patients who received convalescent plasma, 1997 died (23%), and of 7982 control patients, 1952 died (24%). The combined risk ratio for all-cause mortality was 0.97 (95% confidence interval: 0.92; 1.02) with between-study heterogeneity not beyond chance (I2 = 0%). Abstract

BACKGROUND: Convalescent plasma has been widely used to treat COVID-19 and is under investigation in numerous randomized clinical trials, but results are publicly available only for a small number of trials. The objective of this study was to assess the benefits of convalescent plasma treatment compared to placebo or no treatment and all-cause mortality in patients with COVID-19, using data from all available randomized clinical trials, including unpublished and ongoing trials (Open Science Framework, https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/GEHFX ). METHODS: In this collaborative systematic review and meta-analysis, clinical trial registries (ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform), the Cochrane COVID-19 register, the LOVE database, and PubMed were searched until April 8, 2021. Investigators of trials registered by March 1, 2021, without published results were contacted via email. Eligible were ongoing, discontinued and completed randomized clinical trials that compared convalescent plasma with placebo or no treatment in COVID-19 patients, regardless of setting or treatment schedule. Aggregated mortality data were extracted from publications or provided by investigators of unpublished trials and combined using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman random effects model. We investigated the contribution of unpublished trials to the overall evidence. RESULTS: A total of 16,477 patients were included in 33 trials (20 unpublished with 3190 patients, 13 published with 13,287 patients). 32 trials enrolled only hospitalized patients (including 3 with only intensive care unit patients). Risk of bias was low for 29/33 trials. Of 8495 patients who received convalescent plasma, 1997 died (23%), and of 7982 control patients, 1952 died (24%). The combined risk ratio for all-cause mortality was 0.97 (95% confidence interval: 0.92; 1.02) with between-study heterogeneity not beyond chance (I2 = 0%). Abstract

Los diseños de alcantarillados pluviales y combinados normalmente se realizan bajo el supuesto de que la precipitación es constante en tiempo y espacio para áreas inferiores a 1 km2. Con el fin de aportar al conocimiento de la variabilidad espacio-temporal de la precipitación en cuencas urbanas de este tipo, y de determinar su impacto en el diseño de alcantarillados y, más aún, en los caudales de escorrentía obtenidos a partir de la aplicación de modelos matemáticos rigurosamente calibrados y validados, se ha instrumentado densamente la microcuenca urbana del campus de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, sede Bogotá. En este artículo se describen los análisis detallados del evento más importante en términos de intensidad y precipitación total.

Abstract

We analyse the anisotropic clustering of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-IV Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) Luminous Red Galaxy Data Release 14 (DR14) sample combined with Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) CMASS sample of galaxies in the redshift range 0.6 < z < 1.0, which consists of 80 118 galaxies from eBOSS and 46 439 galaxies from the BOSS-CMASS sample. The eBOSS-CMASS Luminous Red Galaxy sample has a sky coverage of 1844 deg2, with an effective volume of 0.9 Gpc3. The analysis was made in configuration space using a Legendre multipole expansion. The Redshift Space Distortion signal is modelled as a combination of the Convolution Lagrangian Perturbation Model and the Gaussian Streaming Model. We constrain the logarithmic growth of structure times the amplitude of dark matter density fluctuations, f (z eff)σ8(z eff) = 0.454 ± 0.134, and the Alcock-Paczynski dilation scales which constraints the angular diameter distance |$D_A(z_{\mathrm{ eff}})=1466.5 \pm 133.2 (r_s/r_s^{\rm fid})$| and |$H(z_{\rm eff})=105.8 \pm 15.7 (r_s^{\rm fid}/r_s) \mathrm{km\, s^{-1}\, Mpc^{-1}}$|⁠ , where rs is the sound horizon at the end of the baryon drag epoch and |$r_s^{\rm fid}$| is its value in the fiducial cosmology at an effective redshift z eff = 0.72. These results are in full agreement with the current Λ-Cold Dark Matter (Λ-CDM) cosmological model inferred from Planck measurements. This study is the first eBOSS LRG full-shape analysis i.e. including Redshift Space Distortions simultaneously with the Alcock-Paczynski effect and the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation scale.
