We investigate the stability of weak symmetry-protected topological phases (SPTs) in the presence of short-range interactions, focusing on the tenfold way classification. Using Atiyah's Real $\mathit{KR}$-theory and Anderson-dualized bordism, we classify free and interacting weak phases across all Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes in low dimensions. Extending the free-to-interacting map of Freed-Hopkins, we mathematically compute how the behavior of free weak SPTs changes when interactions are introduced as well as predict intrinsically-interacting weak phases in certain classes. Our mathematical techniques involve T-duality and the James splitting of the torus. Our results provide a mathematical framework for understanding the persistence of weak SPTs under interactions, with potential implications for experimental and theoretical studies of these phases., Comment: 48 pages. In this paper, based on the ideas of Blagojevi\'c, Karasev & Magazinov, we consider an extension of the center transversal theorem to mass assignments with an improved Rado depth. In particular we substitute the marginal of a measure by a more general concept called a mass assignment over a flag manifold. Our results also allow us to solve the main problem proposed by Blagojevi\'c, Karasev & Magazinov in a linear subspace of lower dimension, as long as it is contained in a high-dimensional enough ambient space., Comment: 7 pages

It was conjectured by Goyal, Shukla and Singh that the independence complex of the categorical product $K_2\times K_3\times K_n$ has the homotopy type of a wedge of $(n-1)(3n-2)$ spheres of dimension $3$. Here we prove this conjecture by calculating the homotopy type of the independence complex of the graphs $C_{3r}\times K_n$ and $K_2\times K_m\times K_n$. For $C_m \times K_n$ when $m$ is not a multiple of $3$, we calculate the homotopy type for $m = 4, 5$ and show that for other values it has to have the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres of at most $2$ consecutive dimensions and maybe some Moore spaces.

We show that if a complex has free finitely generated reduced homology groups for two consecutive dimensions and trivial homology for all other dimensions, then it must have the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres of two consecutive dimensions. We also show other pairs of dimensions for which the last result can be generalized.

For symmorphic crystalline interacting gapped systems we derive a classification under adiabatic evolution. This classification is complete for non-degenerate ground states. For the degenerate case we discuss some invariants given by equivariant characteristic classes. We do not assume an emergent relativistic field theory nor that phases form a topological spectrum. We also do not restrict to systems with short-range entanglement, stability against stacking with trivial systems nor assume the existence of quasi-particles as is done in SPT and SET classifications respectively. Using a slightly generalized Bloch decomposition and Grassmanians made out of ground state spaces, we show that the $P$-equivariant cohomology of a $d$-dimensional torus gives rise to different interacting phases, where $P$ denotes the point group of the crystalline structure. We compare our results to bosonic symmorphic crystallographic SPT phases and to non-interacting fermionic crystallographic phases in class A. The Goodwillie derivatives of the identity functor on pointed spaces form an operad in spectra. Adapting a definition of Behrens, we introduce mod 2 homology operations for algebras over this operad and prove these operations account for all the mod 2 homology of free algebras on suspension spectra of simply-connected spaces., Comment: 24 pages; some corrections and many small improvements throughout. We describe the connected components of the space $\text{Hom}(\Gamma,SU(2))$ of homomorphisms for a discrete nilpotent group $\Gamma$. The connected components arising from homomorphisms with non-abelian image turn out to be homeomorphic to $\mathbb{RP}^3$. We give explicit calculations when $\Gamma$ is a finitely generated free nilpotent group. In the second part of the paper we study the filtration $B_{\text{com}}SU(2) = B(2,SU(2))\subset\cdots \subset B(q,SU(2))\subset\cdots$ of the classifying space $BSU(2)$ (introduced by Adem, Cohen and Torres-Giese), showing that for every $q\geq2$, the inclusions induce a homology isomorphism with coefficients over a ring in which 2 is invertible. We derive a rigorous classification of topologically stable Fermi surfaces of non-interacting, discrete translation-invariant systems from electronic band theory, adiabatic evolution and their topological interpretations. For systems on an infinite crystal it is shown that there can only be topologically unstable Fermi surfaces. For systems on a half- space and with a gapped bulk, our derivation naturally yields a $\mathit{K}$-theory classification. Given the $d-1$-dimensional surface Brillouin zone $\mathrm{X}_{s}$ of a $d$-dimensional half-space, our result implies that different classes of globally stable Fermi surfaces belong in $\mathit{K^{-1}}\mathrm{(X_{s})}$ for systems with only discrete translation-invariance. This result has a chiral anomaly inflow interpretation, as it reduces to the spectral flow for $d = 2$. Through equivariant homotopy methods we extend these results for symmetry classes $AI,\,AII,\, C$ and $D$ and discuss their corresponding anomaly inflow interpretation., Comment: Removed Born-von Karman boundary conditions for $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and $\mathbb{R}^{d-1}\times [0,\infty)$ and includes the 'weak' topological phase found by Kitaev for $\Xi^2 = I, d= 2$

We study "positive" graphs that have a nonnegative homomorphism number into every edge-weighted graph (where the edgeweights may be negative). We conjecture that all positive graphs can be obtained by taking two copies of an arbitrary simple graph and gluing them together along an independent set of nodes. We prove the conjecture for various classes of graphs including all trees. We prove a number of properties of positive graphs, including the fact that they have a homomorphic image which has at least half the original number of nodes but in which every edge has an even number of pre-images. The results, combined with a computer program, imply that the conjecture is true for all graphs up to 9 nodes., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures; minor revision

Recent developments in ergodic theory, additive combinatorics, higher order Fourier analysis and number theory give a central role to a class of algebraic structures called nilmanifolds. In the present paper we continue a program started by Host and Kra. We introduce nilspaces as structures satisfying a variant of the Host-Kra axiom system for parallelepiped structures. We give a detailed structural analysis of abstract and compact topological nilspaces. Among various results it will be proved that compact nilspaces are inverse limits of finite dimensional ones. Then we show that finite dimensional compact connected nilspaces are nilmanifolds. The theory of compact nilspaces is a generalization of the theory of compact abelian groups. This paper is the main algebraic tool in the second authors approach to Gowers's uniformity norms and higher order Fourier analysis.
