Abstract Introduction Using the data taken from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, we explored the relationship between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and low muscle mass (LMM) in adults. Methods We examined 20,424 adults ≥ 20 years old from the 1999–2006 and 2011–2018 NHANES. We hypothesized that the DII is positively associated with the risk of LMM in adults. Regression, subgroup, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were used to determine the association between the DII and the risk of LMM. Results Analyzing the DII as a continuous variable revealed that each unit increase in DII was associated with an 11% increase in the risk of LMM. When categorized by quartile grouping, the analysis indicated that individuals in the highest DII quartile exhibited a 1.78-fold higher risk of LMM compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.45–2.18). The RCS analysis demonstrated that the risk of LMM remained stable for DII below 1.77, but increased sharply for DII of 1.77 or higher. Subgroup analysis further revealed that the impact of DII on LMM risk was more pronounced in individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 or greater. Conclusion It is necessary to adjust the diet according to the DII to reduce the possibility of LMM and to prevent the occurrence of sarcopenia.

Abstract To further raise the gas extraction efficiency of the tight sandstone, the liquid nitrogen (LN2) freezing-thawing cycles method can be employed to improve the permeability of the low-permeability reservoirs. Permeability is generally regarded as a macroscopic description of the pore structure and usually has functional relationship to pore structure properties. The permeability of the rock is closely related to the change of microscopic pore structure. The permeability of rock depends on how the subzero temperatures changed the microscopic pore structure of rock, but it has not yet been confirmed obviously. In this study, the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique was adopted to investigate the pore structure evolution law and permeability of the tight sandstone with different LN2 freezing-thawing cycles. The results demonstrate that the LN2 freezing-thawing cycles promotes pore development and micro-fracture connection, and enhances the pore connectivity. The proportion of meso-pores, macro-pores and micro-fractures in the sandstone samples increases significantly, which provides a channel for the sandstone gas flow and extraction. Total porosity and effective porosity of the samples present a trend of rapid increase as the number of LN2 freezing-thawing cycles increasing, while the residual porosity decreases as the number of LN2 freezing-thawing cycles increasing. Coates model, SDR model (mean T2 model) and PP model were used to calculate and evaluate the permeability of the samples subjected to different LN2 freezing-thawing cycles. Furthermore, PP model can provide a better permeability estimate than the classical Coates and SDR model.

BackgroundThe benefits of acupuncture on primary insomnia (PI) have been well established in previous studies. However, different acupuncture dosages may lead to controversy over its efficacy. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between the dose and efficacy of acupuncture for the treatment of PI.MethodsSeven databases were searched from inception until May 30, 2024. The included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with acupuncture for PI on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores were divided into three categories according to the therapeutic dose of acupuncture (frequency, session, and course): low dosage, medium dosage, and high dosage. The correlation between the dose and the effect of treatment was analyzed. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane Collaboration’s risk of bias tool. Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan v.5.4 and Stata 16.0 software.ResultsA total of 56 studies were included. There were 17 sham acupuncture-controlled RCTs that are notable because of their high quality. Overall, the effect on the reduction of the PSQI scores varied across the different acupuncture dosages. For the frequency of acupuncture, the results showed a significant improvement in the moderate frequency (three sessions per week) and high frequency (five to seven sessions per week) categories. With regard to the acupuncture session, it was shown that moderate session (12–20 sessions) and high session (24–30 sessions) had better effects on the reduction of the PSQI scores, with low session (≤10 sessions) being not significant. For the acupuncture course, there were no differences in the short course (≤2 weeks) and the long course (>4 weeks) between the acupuncture group and the control group. Medium course (3–4 weeks) was considered as the optimal course. In addition, there were no differences between acupuncture and SATV (sham acupuncture therapy at verum points) on the same acupuncture points in the PSQI scores. The results of GRADE assessment demonstrated that the level of evidence was very low to moderate, probably due to the poor methodological quality and the substantial heterogeneity among studies.ConclusionsA dose–effect relationship was found between the acupuncture dose and the PSQI scores. Although sham acupuncture needling at the same points as those in acupuncture may not be a true placebo control, this was utilized in a minority of studies. Collectively, the data suggest that at least three sessions per week for 3–4 weeks and a total of at least 12 acupuncture sessions would be the optimal clinical response.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/, identifier CRD42024560078.

Clinical research associates (CRAs) are the sponsor’s representatives, monitor the process and quality of clinical trials, their professional quality can affect the quality of clinical trials. But there is a conflict between the large number of CRAs personnel and unsatisfactory quality of clinical trial monitoring, and the reason is unknown. Therefore, our study investigated the occupational status of CRAs through a questionnaire survey. A total of 401 eligible questionnaires were included in the final analysis. Abstract Demyelination occurs widely in the central nervous system (CNS) neurodegenerative diseases, especially the multiple sclerosis (MS), which with a complex and inflammatory lesion microenvironment inhibiting remyelination. Sirtuin6 (SIRT6), a histone/protein deacetylase is of interest for its promising effect in transcriptional regulation, cell cycling, inflammation, metabolism and longevity. Here we show that SIRT6 participates in the remyelination process in mice subjected to LPC-induced demyelination. Using pharmacological SIRT6 inhibitor or activator, we found that SIRT6 modulated LPC-induced damage in motor or cognitive function. Inhibition of SIRT6 impaired myelin regeneration, exacerbated neurological deficits, and decreased oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) proliferation and differentiation, whereas activation of SIRT6 reversed behavioral performance in mice, demonstrating a beneficial effect of SIRT6. Importantly, based on RNA sequencing analysis of the corpus callosum tissues, it was further revealed that SIRT6 took charge in regulation of glial activation during remyelination, and significant alterations in CHI3L1 were obtained, a glycoprotein specifically secreted by astrocytes. Impaired proliferation and differentiation of OPCs could be induced in vitro using supernatants from reactive astrocyte, especially when SIRT6 was inhibited. Mechanistically, SIRT6 regulates the secretion of CHI3L1 from reactive astrocytes by histone-H3-lysine-9 acetylation (H3K9Ac). Adeno-associated virus-overexpression of SIRT6 (AAV-SIRT6-OE) in astrocytes improved remyelination and functional recovery after LPC-induced demyelination, whereas together with AAV-CHI3L1-OE inhibits this therapeutic effect. Collectively, our data elucidate the role of SIRT6 in remyelination and further reveal astrocytic SIRT6/CHI3L1 as the key regulator for improving the remyelination environment, which may be a potential target for MS therapy.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) treatment in comparison to those of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists for the prevention of premature luteinizing hormone surges during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (OS) and the impact of these effects on developing embryos and pregnancy outcomes. Data from 757 cycles of GnRH antagonist treatment and 756 cycles of MPA treatment were evaluated at the Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Assisted Reproductive Treatment Center between October 2018 and April 2022. Patient records were obtained from the electronic database of the centre and analysed. In our centre, GnRH antagonist protocols were used between 2018 and 2020, and MPA protocols were used between 2020 and 2022. We chose our study population by year. Our study is a comparative retrospective study. All methods in this study were performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations. As renewable energy sources are increasingly being integrated into power systems, traditional frequency regulation methods have faced challenges, such as reduced system inertia and diminished regulatory capacity. We present a source–grid–load collaborative control strategy for the participation of electrolytic aluminum in the frequency regulation of the DC sending-end power grid. First, the frequency response characteristics of the ultrahigh-voltage DC (UHVDC) sending-end system are analyzed, and an electrolytic aluminum load model is established. Then, a hierarchical source–grid–load control strategy is proposed. The upper-layer control assigns the frequency support tasks to synchronous generators, electrolytic aluminum stations, and UHVDC systems based on the frequency dead zones. The lower-layer control aims to minimize the cost of controlling the electrolytic aluminum loads by distributing power adjustment commands to each electrolytic aluminum series within the power station. Simulations were conducted, and the results validate the effectiveness and economic benefits of the proposed strategy in reducing the control costs while maintaining system stability.

Abstract Background Successive stamen movement is a complex plant behavior involving successive uplift of stamens and pollen release, which plays a role in reducing sexual interference, increasing pollen deposition and promoting pollen export. Although reported from several taxa, studies on whether the movement can be influenced by abiotic and biotic factors are scarce. Methods In this study, we here for the first time described a pattern of successive stamen movement in Saxifraga candelabrum (Saxifragaceae). We then compared the rates of stamen movement in S. candelabrum under different weather and varying pollinator visits. Pollen packaging and presentation schedule of S. candelabrum were also investigated. Results The results showed that the number of stamens bent per day in sunny days was significantly higher than overcast and rain. Flowers that receive more pollinator visits (control treatment) had significantly higher number of stamen movement than those that received fewer (removal treatment) and none (bagging treatment). Throughout the staminate phase of a flower, there was a progressive increase in both pollen quantity of individual stamens and pollen presentation during each day. Conclusion Our research demonstrates that successive stamen movement in S. candelabrum was accelerated by favorable weather and increased pollinator visits, which may promote pollen export. Moreover, incremental pollen packaging is likely an adaptation to seasonal regularity in variations of sex ratio resulting from protandry.

Abstract To solve the problem of oscillation instability in permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind power connected systems during low-voltage ride through (LVRT) process, a parameter adjustment strategy based on interaction energy path optimization is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a modular state-space model of PMSG under fault transient conditions is constructed, and the system is divided into five subsystems. Then, the dynamic energy function of subsystems reflecting the oscillation stability of the system is derived. Based on that, the dynamic energy flow path is described considering the introduction of LVRT control. On this basis, the interaction energy between LVRT control links and subsystems is analyzed, and the coupling mechanism of voltage support and damping characteristics in the LVRT process is explained. Further, aiming at the optimal change rate of the total interaction energy in the LVRT process, the adjustment strategy of LVRT control parameters is constructed to meet voltage and damping requirements. Finally, a PMSG-connected system model is built on the MATLAB/Simulink platform to verify the effectiveness of the adjustment strategy. The results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the damping level under the fault transient condition, as well as supporting system voltage.

Abstract The biaxial compression experiments of rock-like materials with two flaws are carried out under different flaw inclination angle, rock bridge ligament angle, lateral stress. The experimental studies show that crack propagation modes of rock-like material are as follows: wing crack through mode (Y mode), shear crack through mode (J mode), mixed crack through mode (wing shear JY mode), longitudinal extension of crack and transverse shear splitting. prefabricated fractured rock specimens have experienced the closing stage of prefabricated fractures, the elastic deformation stage, the generation and expansion of cracks (or plastic strengthening), and the residual loading stage. The peak strength of the specimen is increases with the increase of flaw inclination angle and lateral stress. With the increase of the rock bridge ligament angle, the failure of the rock bridge region changes from the shear crack failure to composite failure of shear crack and the wing type tensile crack failure, and then to the wing crack failure. With the increase of the lateral pressure, the failure of the specimen changes from the wing type tensile crack failure to the wing type and shear crack failure, and then to shear crack failure. The flaw inclination angle mainly changes the form of crack growth but does not effect on the failure modes. The counting number of acoustic emission events at the center of the sample is relative large, indicating that the cacks appear in the part of the rock bridge firstly. With the increasing of loads, the cracks of the rock bridge expanding constantly and connecting finally. The changes of acoustic emission event counts is consistent with the macroscopic damage form obtained from the experiments.

OBJECTIVE: Despite established definitions of weight classification available from the European Hernia Society and others, a discrepancy exists in the classification used by mesh companies. This descriptive study aimed to summarize available data from mesh companies regarding how meshes are classified according to weight. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved conventional non-coated flat meshes made of polypropylene or polyester. To access all medical companies that produce hernia repair meshes, we conducted a broad search on Access Global Unique Device Identification Database, which is a database created in collaboration between the National Library of Medicine and the FDA. RESULTS: Five companies with 14 meshes met the inclusion criteria. Meshes were classified by the companies as lightweight (seven meshes), heavyweight (one mesh), or lacking specific weight terms (six meshes). Lightweight meshes had a median density of 48 g/m2 (range 36–114 g/m2), while the heavyweight mesh had a density of 125 g/m2. Six meshes were neither defined as lightweight nor heavyweight, and they had a median density of 62 g/m2 (44–76 g/m2). Seven meshes were defined as macroporous, with a median pore size of 2.8 mm (range 1.5–3.5 mm). Six meshes had data on the pore size but did not specify microporous or macroporous characteristics. CONCLUSIONS: A discrepancy exists between companies’ and researchers’ definition of lightweight and heavyweight meshes. Further investigation into mesh classification is warranted to establish clear guidelines for companies, researchers, and clinicians.

As urbanization accelerates, megacities are facing challenges such as inefficient land use and traffic congestion, particularly in the context of rail transit-oriented development, where land use optimization remains a significant research gap. Current urban planning still relies heavily on the experience and intuition of government planning departments, without achieving quantitative, intelligent, and scientific decision making. This study takes Panda Avenue Subway Station as a case study to analyze the evolution of land use patterns around subway stations and explore optimization strategies to enhance land development efficiency and spatial utilizationTo fill this research gap, this paper proposes a CNN-AIMatch model based on machine learning algorithm and an enhanced PLUS-Markov prediction model using the increase and decrease of floor area ratio as a control measure, which adopts an increase in plot ratio as a control measure to improve the accuracy of the Kappa coefficient in different plot ratio scenarios and the prediction of 3D urban spatial growth trends. The model effectively overcomes the limitations of the conventional 2D perspective in predicting urban expansion. By simulating urban renewal and ecological preservation scenarios, it provides an innovative solution for land use pattern optimization and plot ratio control at the block level in subway station areas. The goal of this study is to optimize land use and floor area ratio control strategies through the application of this model, intelligently respond to the challenges of high-density development and quality of life assurance, achieve the best use of land, and promote sustainable urban development and the construction of smart cities.

This study proposes a novel approach for predicting the output behaviors of the Pepperl+Fuchs 3RG6232-3JS00-PF ultrasonic sensor. The sensor, integrated into the Festo MPS-PA Didactic System, serves to monitor the water level in a tank, facilitating water extraction to bottles delivered via a conveyor belt. This modeling approach represents the initial phase in the creation of a digital twin of the physical sensor, providing the capability for users to observe the sensor’s response and forecast its life cycle for maintenance objectives. This study utilizes the Festo MPS-PA Compact Didactic System and support vector regression (SVR) for data acquisition (DAQ), preprocessing, and model training with hyperparameter optimization. The objective of this modeling approach is to establish a digital framework for transition towards Industry 4.0. It holds the potential for creating a digital counterpart of the entire MPS-PA System when combining the proposed sensor modeling technique with computer-assisted design (CAD) software such as Siemens NX in the future. This would enable users to oversee the entire process in a three-dimensional visualization engine, such as Tecnomatix Plant Simulation. This research significantly contributes to the comprehension and application of digital twins in the realm of mechatronics and sensor systems technology. It also underscores the importance of digital twins in enhancing the efficiency and predictability of sensor systems. The method used in this paper involves predicting the rate of change (RoC) of the water level and then integrating this rate to estimate the actual water level, providing a robust approach for sensor data modeling and digital twin creation. The result shows a promising 6.99% error percentage.

Solid-state DC circuit breakers provide crucial support for the safe and reliable operation of low-voltage DC distribution networks. A hardware topology based on a cascaded structure with dual-stage, current-limiting, small-capacity, solid-state DC circuit breakers has been proposed. The hardware topology uses a series–parallel configuration of cascaded SCR (thyristors) and MOSFETs (metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors) in the transfer branch, which enhances the breaking capacity of the transfer branch. Additionally, a secondary current-limiting circuit composed of an inductor and resistor in parallel is integrated at the front end of the transfer branch to effectively improve the current-limiting performance of the circuit breaker. Meanwhile, a dissipation branch is introduced on the fault side to reduce the energy consumption burden on surge arresters. For the power supply system of the hardware part, a capacitor-powered method is adopted for safety and efficiency, with a capacitor switch serially connected to the capacitor power supply for high-precision control of the power supply. Current detection branches are introduced into each branch to provide conditions for the on–off control of semiconductor switching devices and experimental data analysis. The high-frequency control of semiconductor devices is achieved using optocoupler signal isolation chips and high-speed drive chips through a microcontroller STM32. Simulation verification based on MATLAB/SIMULINK software and experimental prototype testing have been conducted, and the results show that the hardware topology is correct and effective.

The role of load modeling in power systems is crucial for both operational and regulatory considerations. It is essential to develop an effective and reliable method for optimizing load modeling parameter identification. In this paper, the dung beetle algorithm is improved by using the good point set, and a load model parameter identification strategy based on the good point set dung beetle optimization algorithm (GDBO) within the framework of the measurement-based load modeling method. The proposed parameter identification strategy involves utilizing PMU voltage data as input, selecting a comprehensive load model, and refining the initialization process based on the good point set to mitigate the influence of local maxima. Through iterative optimization of the objective function using the Dung Beetle Optimizer (DBO) algorithm, the optimal parameters for the comprehensive load model are determined, enhancing the model’s ability to accurately capture the power curve. Analysis of examples pertaining to PMU-measured modeling parameter identification reveals that the proposed GDBO algorithm, which incorporates a good point set, outperforms alternative methods such as the improved differential evolution algorithm (IDE), particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO), and conventional DBO algorithm. This demonstrates the superior performance of the introduced approach in the context of load model parameter identification.

Phospholipase C zeta (PLCζ) is a key sperm-borne oocyte-activating factor that triggers Ca2+ oscillations and the subsequent block to polyspermy following gamete fusion. Mutations in PLCZ1, the gene encoding PLCζ, cause male infertility and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) fertilization failure; and PLCζ expression and localization patterns are significantly correlated with ICSI fertilization rate (FR). However, in conventional in vitro fertilization (cIVF), whether and how sperm PLCζ affects fertilization remain unclear. Herein, we identified one previously reported and two novel PLCZ1 mutations associated with polyspermy in vitro that are characterized by excessive sperm–zona binding and a delay in pronuclei (PN) formation. Immunofluorescence staining and oocyte activation testing revealed that virtually all spermatozoa from patients lacked functional PLCζ and were thus unable to evoke Ca2+ oscillations. ICSI with an artificial oocyte activation treatment successfully rescued the polyspermic phenotype and resulted in a live birth. Furthermore, we analyzed PLCζ in an additional 58 males after cIVF treatment in the Reproductive and Genetic Hospital of CITIC-Xiangya (Changsha, China) between February 2019 and January 2022. We found that the proportion of spermatozoa that expressed PLCζ was positively correlated with both 2PN rate and total FR. The optimal cutoff value below which males were likely to experience low FR (total FR ≤30%) after cIVF was 56.7% for the proportion of spermatozoa expressing PLCζ. Our study expands the mutation and the phenotypic spectrum of PLCZ1 and further suggests that PLCζ constitutes a promising biomarker for identifying low FRs cases in cIVF due to sperm-related oocyte activation deficiency and that sperm PLCζ analysis may benefit the wider male population and not only men with ICSI failure.

In this paper, a single-antenna full-duplex subsystem is proposed, consisting of a high isolation network and a stacked patch antenna with reflector. The employed patch antenna is fed by two ports with very similar input impedances to make the reflected signals identical. The high isolation network composed of two hybrids and two circulators plays a crucial part in achieving high transmitting to receiving (Tx-Rx) isolation. It is able to cancel out the inevitable reflected signals from the antenna ports and the leakage signals from the circulators. The theoretical analysis is presented and the subsystem is also fabricated and measured. According to the measurement results, across the operation band from 2.018 to 2.12 GHz, the subsystem has VSWR 50 dB, axial ratio 10.2 dBic. Compared with the state-of-art single-antenna full-duplex subsystems, the proposed design features high Tx-Rx isolation level and high gain, which is suitable for microwave radio relay communication and satellite detection application.

Faults in three-core armored cable lines in distribution networks are frequent, and using only zero-sequence current time-frequency data to identify fault lines has its limitations. To increase the accuracy of cable fault identification, this paper utilizes the cable ground wire current and proposes a new fault line identification method that integrates a Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (BiGRU), a Residual Network (ResNet), and a Multi-head Attention Mechanism (MA). Firstly, the Northern Goshawk Algorithm optimizes Variational Mode Decomposition (NGO-VMD) for denoising the ground wire current signal, reducing interference from the complex external environment. Secondly, the processed current signal is used to generate two-dimensional images using the Markov Transition Field (MTF), expanding signal features. Finally, BiGRU-ResNet-MA is utilized to deeply extract, enhance, and identify the multi-dimensional features of the ground wire current signal. The BiGRU-ResNet-MA model combines the two-dimensional image spatial characteristic extraction capability of ResNet with the temporal characteristic extraction capability of BiGRU, and further enhances feature weighting through MA, improving the fault line identification capability. The simulation findings show that this identification method can effectively address the issue of traditional methods relying too heavily on subjective selection. It accurately identifies fault lines even in the presence of strong noise, unstable faults, and asynchronous sampling, showcasing its strong robustness.
