The effect of cadmium in the root architecture of Cucumis sativus L. seedlings was determined. Primary root length and lateral root density of C. sativus L. seedlings exposed to 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100 ppm concentrations of Cd2+ was monitoring. The results show that at high concentrations of Cd occurs a lower growth in primary root length, where 50 and 100 ppm of Cd concentrations inhibit the primary root elongation. On the other hand, lateral root density formed increased when seedlings were exposed to higher concentrations of Cd2+. In 100 ppm treatment the highest lateral root density (19.2) was observed almost five times higher than control (4.0). The C. sativus L. root architecture is most affected at 50 and 100 ppm of Cd2+

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a biocoagulant produced from the devilfish invasive species and its combination with two chemical coagulants (aluminum sulfate and ferric sulfate) to remove turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, and total suspended solids in ceramic industry wastewater using a combined experimental design of Mixture-Process. This design optimized the coagulation process and evaluated the effects and interactions between mixture components and coagulant doses. An analysis of variance was used to analyze the experimental data obtained in the study, and the response surface plots by response type (turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, and total suspended solids) were obtained. Results showed that the coagulation treatment could be technically and economically feasible since efficiencies of turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, and total suspended solids removal of 74, 79, and 94% could be achieved using an optimal coagulant dose of 800 mg/L with a mixture of 35% biocoagulant and 65% ferric sulfate. Analysis of variance results showed that the models are significant, and the lack of fit is not required according to the probability value (pvalue), which were 0.05, respectively. Hence, the experimental data were fitted to a combined reduced special cubic x linear model. These results support the use of devilfish meal as a biocoagulant, being more feasible in dual systems when mixed with ferric sulfate.

Stanhopea tigrina commonly known in Mexico as “cabeza de vibora” or “calaverita”, is an endemic orchid from the mountain cloud forest of this country and it is currently an endangered species. The objective of this study was to stablish an in vitro propagation system for S. tigrina in order to contribute to the development of alternatives in the preservation of this species. Therefore, seeds from a mature capsule were cultivated in a Murashige and Skoog basal medium. Then, 16-week-old seedlings, counting weeks from the moment of germination, were transplanted into several treatments fortified with organic extracts (OE) or 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) to induce the proliferation of the seedlings. These treatments fortified with OE and 5.0 mg of L− 1 BAP developed 1.25 ± 0.35 shoots with no significant differences. For the rooting process, the auxins indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and indole-3-butyric acid were tested either alone or in combination with salicylic acid or coconut water. The addition of 100 mL L− 1 of coconut water, alone or in combination with 2.5 or 5.0 mg L− 1 of IAA auxin were the best treatments for root production. For the establishment of symbiotic acclimatization, the vitroplants were inoculated with fungal spore suspensions of Trichoderma hamatum and Penicillium sp. The vitroplants to which T. hamatum was added as a symbiote achieved 100% survival and developed an average height of 2.54 ± 0.33 cm. In conclusion, the in vitro propagation protocol proposed in this study was effective for the symbiotic obtaining and acclimatization of S. tigrina plants. Stanhopea tigrina is an endemic orchid to Mexico and currently threatened. This research was designed in order to contribute to its conservation through the use of plant biotechnology. In this study it has been shown that the use of organic extracts and symbiotic acclimatization with fungi can be a useful method to regenerate and massively propagate this orchid.

Pseudomonas rhodesiae GRC140 is an endophytic bacterium isolated from the roots of Typha latifolia collected in a Cd-contaminated site. This bacterium has biochemical abilities similar to those exerted by plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria. Moreover, it has been shown that P. rhodesiae GRC140 improves the growth of Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings in the absence and presence of Cd. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of P. rhodesiae GRC140 in Cucumis sativus L. growing in nutritive medium with and without Cd. For this, cucumber seeds were superficially disinfected and exposed to a suspension of P. rhodesiae GRC140. Inoculated seeds were placed in a nutritive medium with and without Cd, then were incubated at 28 oC for eight days. After incubation, seedlings were recovered and determined the length of the primary root, the number of roots per plant, hypocotyl length, and the fresh weight. The results showed that P. rhodesiae GRC140 negatively affects the growth of C. sativus L. seedlings grown in the absence of Cd. On the other hand, in Cd-exposed seedlings, P. rhodesiae GRC140 improves the growth of C. sativus L. These results suggest that P. rhodesiae GRC140 decreases the deleterious effect of Cd in C. sativus L.

La población local puede tener un papel clave para concretar el concepto de desarrollo regional sustentable de las Áreas Naturales Protegidas. En este sentido, el objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar el papel que tienen las comunidades locales en el cuidado de los recursos naturales de la Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra del Abra Tanchipa (RBSAT). Como población de estudio se eligió una comunidad con área de influencia mayor sobre esta reserva. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una investigación de tipo social basada en un método de tipo cualitativo utilizando las entrevistas, encuestas estructuradas y la organización de grupos focales como forma de recolección de datos a través de un muestreo no probabilístico. Los resultados de este estudio mostraron que la participación de la comunidad en la gestión y administración de los recursos es la clave para lograr la funcionalidad y conservación de la RBSAT.

Antimicrobial resistance is a great concern in public health. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain new compounds to treat diseases caused by bacteria. Medicinal plants are an alternative to search natural compounds to improve human health, including antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobials compounds. Costus pulverulentus (Costaceae) C. Presl is a plant used traditionally in Huasteca Potosina to treat bacterial infections. However, the compounds involved in this activity remain poorly understood. To determine the antibacterial activity of C. pulverulentus, an ethanolic extract was obtained. Plant stem was macerated in ethanol and then was fractionated with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, ethanol, and methanol. Ethanolic extract and derived fractions were tested against bacteria by the disk-diffusion agar method. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of C. pulverulentus exerted activity against Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 and Bacillus sp. at 10 and 30 μg/disk, whereas only the methanolic fraction showed similar activity to complete extract. Fraction 8 obtained from methanolic fraction showed inhibitory activity against Bacillus sp., S. aureus, and S. aureus Oxacillin resistant. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry characterization of active fraction 8 showed that it contains vanillic acid and pcoumaric acid suggesting that they are involved in the antibacterial activity of C. pulverulentus.

The 2,2′-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay is a valid and commonly test used to measure the total antioxidant capacity in natural extracts. The results of this assay are frequently expressed as IC50 values. Nevertheless, the reported IC50 value is influenced by the concentration of the DPPH solution used in the methodology. Consequently, the aim of this study was to determine an IC50 value free of the influence of the DPPH concentration to evaluate correctly the antioxidant capacity of natural compounds. We have established a standardized unit for the antioxidant concentration (ng antioxidant agent/ nmol DPPH) in the concentration–response curves. Then, these curves were used to calculate the IC50 values. The natural antioxidants assessed in this study were ascorbic acid, quercetin and an ethanolic extract of Justicia spicigera. The IC50 values were estimated from nonlinear and linear regression analyses. The use of standardized units resulted in similar curves and IC50 values for the same natural antioxidant (P values from 0.0931 to 0.5512), under different concentrations of the DPPH radical. The lack of usage of standardized units resulted in different curves and IC50 values (P values from 0.0002 to 0.0022). In conclusion, our practical standardization provides a correct interpretation of the antioxidant capacities of natural products under the DPPH scavenging assay.

In recent decades, there has been an increase in anthropogenic activities such as industrialization, urbanization, energy generation, agricultural practices, and the burning of fossil fuels, which has resulted in an increase of heavy metals (HM) concentrations in soils and waters to amounts that are harmful to plants, animals, and humans. An alternative is the use of plants with ability to produce large amounts of biomass and with active mechanisms for the phytoextraction of pollutants, that is, the application of green technologies such as phytoremediation. However, there are plants with great capacity to remove pollutants, but they produce little biomass. In that sense, the genetic transformation of plants is an alternative. This chapter summarizes the work that has been carried out so far where plant engineering is used to improve tolerance and removal of HM in contaminated areas. The information here described will be useful for to design strategies of phytoremediation of contaminated sites.

Sargassum algae has become a major environmental issue due to its abundance in the Pacific Ocean with hundreds of tons reaching the beaches of the Mexican Caribbean every year. This generates large quantities of decomposing organic matter that have a negative impact on the region’s economy and ecosystems. Sargassum valorization has turned out to be a fundamental aspect to mitigate its environmental impact. This study proposes the use and application of untreated Sargassum biomass for the decontamination of waters polluted with lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) through single and binary adsorption tests. Physicochemical and textural properties examined by SEM, XRD, and FT-IR elucidated that Sargassum biomass is viable to be used as a potential environmental benign adsorbent, exhibiting Cd(II) and Pb(II) adsorption capacities as high as 240 mg g−1 and 350 mg g−1, respectively, outperforming conventionally used adsorbents. This is attributed to its morphology, favorable surface charge distribution, and the presence of -OH and -COH groups. A strong affinity between the biomass and metal pollutants was evidenced by a thermodynamics study, showing a spontaneous and endothermic process. This work sets a practical route for the utilization of the Sargassum biomass, demonstrating its applicability as a potential material for heavy-metal-polluted water remediation, making a substantial contribution to a circular economy system.

The compounds common to all three plant parts were quinic, malic, succinic, azelaic, and pinellic acids. Among the compounds identified, two were exclusive to leaves, four to pseudobulbs, and ten to flowers. Some of the identified compounds have well-known antioxidant activity. Ibuprofen degradation and energy generation in a single-chamber Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) were evaluated using a bioanode fabricated from devil fish bone char (BCA) synthesized by calcination in air atmosphere. Its performance was compared with conventional carbon felt (CF). Bone char textural properties were determined by nitrogen adsorption. Before and after, the bacterial colonization on the materials was analyzed by environmental scanning electron microscopy. Energy generation was evaluated by electrochemical techniques as open-circuit potential, linear sweep voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Ibuprofen degradation was analyzed by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Ultraviolet, and the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal was measured. Results showed a specific area of 136 m2/g for BCA, having enough space to immobilize microorganisms. The micrographs confirmed the biofilm formation on the electrode materials. Over the 14 days, MFC with BCA reached a maximum power density of 4.26 mW/m2, 175% higher than CF, and an electron transfer resistance 2.1 times lower than it. This coincides with the COD removal and ibuprofen degradation efficiencies, which were 43.6% and 34% for BCA and 31.8% and 27% for CF. Hence, these findings confirmed that BCA in MFC could provide an alternative electrode material for ibuprofen degradation and energy generation.

Bidens odorata Cav (Asteraceae) is a medicinal plant employed for the treatment of pain, anxiety, and depression. This study aimed to evaluate some neuropharmacological effects of an ethanol extract of B. odorata (BOE) and assess its antinociceptive interaction with naproxen and paracetamol. The following neuropharmacological effects were evaluated with the ethanolic extract of B. odorata leaves (BOE) (10–200 mg/kg p.o.): the strychnine-induced-convulsion assay (anticonvulsant effect), rotarod test (locomotor activity), tail suspension test (anti-depressant-like activity), cylinder exploratory test (anxiolytic-like actions), and pentobarbital-induced sleep test (sedative effect). The interaction of the BOE-paracetamol and BOE-naproxen combinations were evaluated with the acetic acid-induced writhing test. The ED50 value of each drug was estimated and the combinations of paracetamol and naproxen with BOE were calculated. BOE (100–200 mg/kg) showed anti-convulsant activity by increasing the latency to occurrence of strychnine-induced convulsions, antidepressant-like effects by 28% and 33%, respectively, exerted anxiolytic actions (ED50 = 125 mg/kg), but did not affect motor locomotion. The pre-treatment with 2 mg/kg flumazenil or 20 mg/kg pentylenetetrazol partially reverted the anxiolytic activity shown by BOE alone. BOE (200 mg/kg) prolonged the duration of sleep with similar effect in comparison to clonazepam (1.5 mg/kg). The combinations of BOE-paracetamol (1:1) and BOE-naproxen (1:1) showed antinociceptive synergism. BOE induces sedative and anticonvulsant effects. The anxiolytic actions shown by BOE are probably induced by the participation of the GABAergic system. BOE exerts antinociceptive synergistic interaction with paracetamol and naproxen probably by the participation of nitric oxide and ATP-sensitive K+ channels, respectively.

Laelia anceps subsp. anceps es una especie de la familia Orchidaceae que presenta altas tasas de extracción y comercio ilegal en diversos estados de la República Mexicana, además requiere de condiciones nutricionales específicas debido a sus características de desarrollo y distribución. Por lo cual, el objetivo de la presente investigación fue establecer un protocolo de micropropagación in vitro comparando el efecto de la citocinina 6-bencilaminopurina (BAP) y el nitrato de potasio (KNO3). Para ello, se cultivaron semillas estériles en medio MS sin reguladores de crecimiento vegetal. Posterior a la germinación, se indujo en las vitroplantas la formación de brotes y raíces en medio MS, suplementado con 0, 2.5, 5.0 y 10 mg L-1 de BAP o 0, 2.5, 5.0 y 10 mg L-1 de KNO3. Los resultados mostraron que la adición de BAP mejoró el proceso de propagación en todos los tratamientos analizados, en tanto que, la adición de 10 mg L-1 de KNO3 indujo los mejores resultados al producir 11.4 ± 0.6 raíces las cuales desarrollaron velamen, una estructura radicular que favorece la absorción de agua. Estos resultados sugieren que a mayor concentración de KNO3 podrían mejorar los resultados de propagación en esta orquídea.ABSTRACTLaelia anceps subsp. anceps is a species of the Orchidaceae family that presents high rates of illegal extraction and trade in several states of the Mexican Republic, and also requires specific nutritional conditions due to its development and distribution characteristics. Therefore, the aim of the present investigation was to establish an in vitro micropropagation protocol comparing the effect of the cytokinin 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and potassium nitrate (KNO3). For this, sterile seeds were grown in MS medium without plant growth regulators. After germination, formation of shoots and roots in MS medium was induced in vitroplants supplemented with 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 mg L-1 of BAP or 0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 mg L-1 of KNO3. The results showed that the addition of BAP improved the propagation process in all the treatments analyzed, while the addition of 10 mg L-1 of KNO3 induced the best results by producing 11.4 ± 0.6 roots with the developed of sail, a structure root that favors the water absorption. These results suggest that higher concentration of KNO3 could improve the propagation results in this orchid.

Fractionated extraction of the leaves of Artemisia ludoviciana subsp. mexicana was performed, using hexane, dichloromethane and methanol, to obtain compounds of different polarity. Essential oils, aqueous decoction and hydroalcoholic extract were also obtained. Phytochemical profile was determined for each extract based on coloration and precipitation tests. Extracts were evaluated against three enterobacteria using the plate microdilution method. Chemical analysis revealed that dichloromethane fraction has a greater variety of compounds than hexane and methanolic fractions. The content of compounds of dichloromethane fraction correlates with the highest antimicrobial activity observed, suggesting that metabolites responsible for antimicrobial effect are intermediate polarity. Regarding extracts, ethanolic extract exerts a better effect than the decoction, while the essential oil shows the same antibacterial effect at low concentrations. Results demonstrate that A. ludoviciana subsp. mexicana has a great variety of compounds, which, according to their nature, can be eluted with solvents of different polarity. These compounds contribute to the antibacterial effect attributed to this plant.

Laelia anceps and Cyrtopodium macrobulbon are two orchids used in Mexican traditional medicine for treating pain.The individual antinociceptive activity of ethanol extracts from the roots of Laelia anceps (LAE) and Cyrtopodium macrobulbon (CME) was evaluated, and their metabolomic profiles were comparatively evaluated. The antinociceptive activity of CME and naproxen combination (1:1) was also addressed.The antinociceptive actions of LAE and CME were examined using three nociceptive tests. The combination of CME with naproxen was evaluated in the acetic acid test using isobologram analysis. Metabolomic analysis was performed using capillary reversed phase liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectrometry and the MS-DIAL 4.70 software was used for data analysis and statistics.LAE (EDLAE and CME induced antinociceptive activity with the possible participation of the nitric oxide pathway. CME in combination with naproxen synergistically produces antinociceptive effects in the acetic acid test. The untargeted metabolomic analysis allowed for annotation of several compounds potentially involved in the therapeutic potential of two plants; among them, three phenanthrene derivatives might contribute to the observed antinociceptive activity.

Medicinal plants are an indispensable resource. However, many medicinal plants are disappearing at an accelerated rate. This chapter shows evidence on the diversity and mass extraction of medicinal plants around the world. The information emphasizes that conservation strategies must be considered for the sustainable use of medicinal plants. Biotechnological approaches, such as plant tissue culture, can be used for biodiversity conservation.

The increase in the human population is an important challenge to the food security in the world. Each year there are fewer areas in the planet destined for agriculture, in addition to soil erosion, and the threat of highly destructive phytopathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, it is very important to develop agro-industrial and biotechnological strategies friendly with the environment, to avoid the use of chemical fertilizers that affect and alter the ecosystems ecology, composition and diversity, as well as human health. An alternative is the use of macrophytes as green manure because of the biological importance of these plants. Macrophytes are aquatic plants with floating or submerged growth and respond to a wide variety of environmental conditions. This review summarizes the information obtained, by scientific sources about the factors affecting the distribution of macrophytes and brief description of their general aspects, the biotechnological applications of macrophytes (applications as organic biofertilizers or green manure), and a case study about macrophytes as phytoremediators. The information here described will be useful for to design strategies in agriculture on the use of organic fertilizers.

La vainilla es una orquídea de importancia económica en México y el mundo. Entre las principales zonas de México donde se produce esta orquídea se encuentra la región Huasteca en el estado de San Luis Potosí. Recientemente se observó en plantas de vainilla cultivadas en esta región, la presencia de síntomas como clorosis, necrosis y marchitamiento general. Considerando que dichos síntomas son característicos de infecciones causadas por hongos patógenos, en este trabajo se planteó el objetivo de identificar los hongos asociados a dichas plantas. Para ello se colectaron hojas, tallos y frutos de plantas con síntomas; los cuales se lavaron, cortaron, y colocaron sobre medio PDA. Bajo estas condiciones se obtuvieron colonias fúngicas que fueron usadas para obtener aislados monospóricos, los cuales fueron identificados mediante microcultivos y mediante la amplificación y secuenciación de las regiones génicas conocidas como Espaciadores Transcritos Internos (ITS). Dichas secuencias fueron analizadas mediante BLAST en NCBI. Los hongos aislados mostraron características morfológicas del género Fusarium: micelio color violeta, coloración amarillo-marrón en el medio de cultivo, desarrollo de clamidosporas, macroconidios y microconidios. Las secuencias ITS mostraron una cobertura del 100% y una similitud del 99.5% con el aislado de Fusarium oxysporum O309 (MT032690.1), confirmando la presencia de Fusarium en las plantas analizadas. Interesantemente, este es el primer reporte del aislamiento e identificación de Fusarium en plantas de vainilla cultivadas en el estado de S.L.P.

The LEGaTO project leverages task-based programming models to provide a software ecosystem for Made in-Europe heterogeneous hardware composed of CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs and dataflow engines. The aim is to attain one order of magnitude energy savings from the edge to the converged cloud/HPC, balanced with the security and resilience challenges. LEGaTO is an ongoing three-year EU H2020 project started in December 2017. This project has received funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the LEGaTO Project(legato- project.eu), grant agreement No 780681.

In Mexico, the contamination by potentially toxic metals in soil and water represents substantial ecological and health problems. Plants capable to grow on anthropogenically modified grounds reflect their ability of adaptation to diverse environmental conditions. Most of phytoremediation studies are carried out under laboratory conditions, and only few studies evaluate the ability of phytoextraction under in situ conditions. This chapter summarizes the information obtained, by scientific sources, about in situ phytoremediation studies carried out in Mexico. Most of the studies correspond to sites polluted with trace metals by mining activities. The information here described will be useful for planning the remediation of contaminated sites by potentially toxic metals in Mexico and can be extrapolated to different sites contaminated with potentially toxic metals throughout the world. Four trace metal hyperaccumulator plants (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides, Parietaria pensylvanica, and Commelina diffusa for Zn and Rorippa nasturtium-aquaticum for Cu) are here described. The native species must be studied to establish mechanisms of phytoextraction of metals and interaction with water/soil and microorganisms to improve the efficiency of in situ phytoremediation.

Recalcitrant pollutants mainly come from industrial processes such as mineral extraction, metal casting and coating, discharge of effluents, and nuclear fuel generation. These pollutants are introduced into food chain resulting in their accumulation in human body. Even at low concentration they pose serious health effects. A low-cost biotechnological alternative for remediation of recalcitrant pollutants is phytoremediation. Plants are capable of degrading, immobilizing, stabilizing, and extracting toxic elements from soil, sediment, or water environs. Furthermore, this chapter summarizes the information obtained by scientific sources about the use of plants for cleaning up of recalcitrant pollutants from disturbed environs. Reviews of 80 plants used in remediation of heavy metals and 13 to remove organic compounds have been discussed in this chapter. In addition a case study pertaining to phytoremediation potential of Typha latifolia was discussed in lucid manner. The study revealed that T. latifolia is a hyperaccumulator for Pb and removes other heavy metals at good rate in disturbed environs. Therefore, the present investigation suggests that plants are capable of degrading toxic substances and should be employed for restoration of contaminated environs.

Orchidaceae is the most extensive family of flowering plants. There are approximately 30,000 - 35,000 species, belonging to 850 genera, dispersed in almost all the ecosystems on earth, except in polar zones and extreme deserts. In Mexico, there are more than 1,200 species distribuited in approximately 170 genera, of which 40% are endemic to the country. In this review, aspects related to geographical distribution, ecology, conservation, biotechnological applications and uses of orchids growing in Mexico are discussed. The geographical zones where their ecological niches are located are described and the zones that belong to priority conservation areas in Mexico are highlighted. In addition, all works on Mexican orchids related to micropropagation, medicinal uses, beneficial applications for humans, and microorganism-host interaction are discussed. In summary, this study provides perspectives for new studies and research focused on the use, propagation and conservation of Mexican endemic orchids.

Self-medication during pregnancy represents a serious threat for mother and child health. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and the factors associated with self-medication among Mexican women living in the central region of Mexico. This is a descriptive interview-study of 1798 pregnant women or women who were pregnant no more than 3 years ago, when the interview was carried out. Data analysis was carried out with chi-square analysis and odds ratio. This work focused on developing inexpensive materials with desirable characteristics as bioanodes in Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC) for bioenergy production from the biodegradation of carbamazepine. This pharmaceutical compound is an emerging pollutant in water due to its presence in wastewater, persistence in conventional treatment plants, and widespread occurrence in water bodies. The materials were fabricated from devil fish bone chars synthesized by calcination process using a nitrogen atmosphere (BCN) and an air atmosphere (BCA). Their performances were compared with carbon felt (CF). Three cylindrical-shaped single-chamber MFC were constructed with each material and were operated with 50 mg/L of carbamazepine. Biodegradation efficiencies were estimated from the removal percentage of the carbamazepine and the chemical oxygen demand (COD). MFC electrochemical properties were characterized by linear sweep voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and chronoamperometry. Biofilm formation on the materials was analyzed by environmental scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that MFC with BCN and BCA had better performance than CF. COD removal and carbamazepine biodegradation efficiencies of 87.5% and 79.58%, 81.1% and 77.88%, and 75.5% and 74.78% were obtained for BCN, BCA, and CF, respectively. Both bioanodes showed a maximum power density of 5.4 mW/m2 and Coulombic efficiency of ~14%, 210%, and ~ 116% higher than CF, an electron transfer resistance up two times lower, and a stable behavior higher than it. Micrographs confirmed the biofilm formation. Hence, these findings provide low-cost alternative materials to be used as bioanode in the sustainable construction of MFC applied to produce bioenergy and biodegrade carbamazepine.
