However, serious long-term health complications occur in very large populations of childhood leukemia survivors, in the case of both acute lymphoid leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Additionally, 15% of acute lymphoid leukemia patients have treatment failures, and rates are even higher in childhood AML. In the last few decades, as a result of well-tested experiments that statistically analyzed treatment cohorts, new agents have emerged as alternatives or supplements to established treatments, in which high survival and/or less morbidity were observed. This review provides an overview of better practice in the treatment of childhood leukemia. Fluids Engineering Division ASME 2017 15th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, ICNMM 2017 --27 August 2017 through 30 August 2017 -- -- The purpose of this study is presenting an active micromixer, which is based on AC electro-osmotic flow driven on 3D micro wires. In order to solve governing equations of AC electroosmosis, a commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics® is implemented. Different wire configurations with various imposed electric fields and flow rates are tested for evaluating mixing efficiencies. The analyses show that mixing performance is significantly improved by number of the wires as well as wire orientation. It is also revealed that the degree of mixing can also be controlled by the tuning of the applied voltage for a given flow rate. © 2017 ASME The American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

In the first few weeks after bone marrow transplantation, a clinical syndrome characterized by hepatomegaly, jaundice, and fluid retention develops in 10 to 70% of patients. This syndrome is due to damage to endothelial cells, sinusoids, and hepatocytes in zone 3 of thejiver acinus. The proximate cause of the damage is cytoreductive therapy. This syndrome, often called veno-occlusive disease of the liver, can vary in severity from mild reversible disease to fatal disease associated with multiorgan failure

In this article, we report a long term follow up of Turkey's first four cases of erythroblastosis fetalis who had been successfully treated with intrauterine transfusions between 1967-1969.

It is known that clonal chromosomal changes in childhood ALL are nonrandom and important markers for diagnosis, prognosis and relaps. In this report we present 4 year-old boy with ALL-L1 who has complex chromosomal rearrangements. Chromosome analysis was performed on bone marrow aspiration sample in relaps after one year from diagnosis and induction chemotherapy. The karyotype was; 46,XY,t(3;17)(q23;p13),t(5;12)(q31;p13),inv(11)(p15q12) [11]/46,XY[8].Çocukluk çağında görülen ALL’de, klonal kromozom değişimlerinin rasgele olmadığı ve tanı, prognoz ve nüks için önemli belirteçler olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu bildiride, kompleks kromozom anomalileri gözlenen ALL-L1’li 4 yaşında bir erkek olgu sunulmaktadır. Kromozom analizi, tanıdan ve indüksiyon kemoterapisinden bir yıl sonra meydana gelen nüks evresinde gerçekleştirilmiş ve 46,XY,t(3;17)(q23;p13),t(5;12)(q31;p13),inv(11)(p15q12) [11]/46,XY[8] karyotipi bulunmuştur.

In an abutment screw fracture, it is generally a challenge for the clinician to remove fractured fragments. In some cases, the screw cannot be removed, and alternative solutions should be considered. This clinical report describes the replacement of a ball attachment with a fractured screw, which was impossible to retrieve, with a cast dowel with ball attachment. The patient who presented to the Department of Prosthodontics, Yeditepe University, Faculty of Dentistry was a 65-year-old woman, wearing a mandibular complete denture supported by two implants for 4 years. She complained about the loss of retention of the denture because of the fractured abutment screw, and it was found that another dentist had previously tried to retrieve the fractured screw with no success. It was decided to construct a cast dowel with ball attachment to improve retention without sacrificing the implant. The interior of the implant and the fractured screw were machined with a rotating instrument. An impression was taken with a metal strip and silicone-based materials. In the laboratory, a stone die was generated from the impression, and a custom-made cast dowel with ball attachment was constructed. It was then cemented with glass ionomer cement and connected to the denture with the direct method. The alternative procedure described in this clinical report was successful for the removal of the fractured abutment screw and use of the existing denture. © 2014 by the American College of Prosthodontists.

45th AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference, 2015 --22 June 2015 through 26 June 2015 -- -- An experimental investigation is presented to reveal the flow physics and turbulence statistics of nonslender delta and diamond wings with a sweep angle of ? = 40° under perturbation condition with the amplitude of ?? = +??sin?et = ±0.5° during Te=2?/?e= 0.5s. The experiments are carried out using the techniques of dye visualization and Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (stereo-PIV) on the plan view and cross flow plane for the cases of stationary and perturbed wing as the angle of attack is varied within 7°???17°. In order to perform a comparison based on the wing planform, diamond wing is designed from the composition of same shape of the delta wing and an attachment part mounted on its trailing edge. This study also provides information about effects of trailing edge attachment mounted on a generic nonslender delta wing under current test conditions. It can be concluded that perturbation is beneficial in the control of flow over both wings at relatively high angles of attack, ?.The duration required for occurrence of flow control increases for the current period and time of perturbation, when the trailing edge attachment (diamond wing case) is employed. Beyond this, trailing edge attachment takes role in attenuation of turbulence statistics, where leading edge vortex breaks down. © 2015, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.

Aim To evaluate the effect of acid-etch procedures on the compressive strength and surface microhardness of tooth-coloured mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). Methodology White ProRoot MTA (Dentsply Tulsa Dental) was mixed and packed into cylindrical tubes of 4 mm in diameter and 6 mm in height. Three groups, each of 15 specimens were subjected to an acid-etch procedure either 4, 24 or 96 h after mixing. The compressive strength was measured and compared with unetched control groups. Differences between groups were analysed using the Kruskall-Wallis test. A further batch of cylindrical specimens of 6 mm in diameter and 12 mm in height were prepared for testing surface microhardness. Three groups of 15 specimens were subjected to the acid-etch procedure at either 4, 24 or 96 h following mixing. Data were subjected to one-way anova. Changes in the surface microstructure before and after the acid-etch procedures were analysed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results There was a general trend for the compressive strength and surface microhardness of specimens to increase with time. In terms of compressive strength, the increase was significant between 4 h and the other time periods for both experimental and control groups (P < 0.0001); however, there was no significant difference between 24 and 96 h. The increase in surface microhardness was significant between 4, 24 and 96 h (P < 0.0001). In addition, there was a significant difference between experimental and control groups at all time periods (P < 0.0001). SEM examination revealed morphological differences between the intact and the etched MTA surfaces. Conclusions Acid-etch procedures affected the compressive strength and surface microhardness of ProRoot MTA. This indicates that it may be better to postpone restorative procedures for at least 96 h after mixing MTA. Etching created surface changes that might have the potential to enhance bonding of resinous materials. © 2009 International Endodontic Journal.

Objective: This study analyzes the clinical and laboratory findings of children with primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) followed in various referral centers of Turkey. Materials and Methods: A simple three-page questionnaire prepared by the Turkish Histiocyte Study Group was used for documentation of patient data. Results: Age at diagnosis varied from 0.6 to 78 months (median±SD, 16.5±26.1). Sex distribution was almost equal (F/M=10/12). The frequencies of parental consanguinity and sibling death in the family history were 100% and 81.1%, respectively. The most common clinical findings were hepatomegaly (100%) and fever (95%). The most common laboratory findings were anemia (100%), hyperferritinemia (100%) and thrombocytopenia (90.9%). Triglyceride and total bilirubin levels in the deceased versus surviving group appear to be high (triglyceride: 394±183 mg/dl, 289±7 mg/dl; total bilirubin: 2.7±6.9 mg/dl, 0.5±1.2 mg/ dl, respectively). Conclusion: We concluded that fever, hepatosplenomegaly, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and hyperferritinemia are the most common clinical and laboratory findings in primary HLH. Increased triglyceride and total bilirubin level at the time of diagnosis might be an indicator of poor prognosis in HLH.

The flow differences were examined in detail in terms of formation of second set of twin vortices under different Reynolds number and duct conditions. It is concluded that the formation of twin vortices occurs an earlier downwind distance regardless of the value of Reynolds number and as the Reynolds number is increased from 3000 to 8000 the twin vortices disappear earlier in the case of CFD comparing to the case of CFU.

The mortality associated with the ingestion of mushrooms of the amanita phalloides group has been reported to be approximately 30 % ( 1 ), and 95 % of all fatal cases of mushroom poisoning are from this cause (2). Amanita mushroom poisoning is not uncommon in Turkey. Last year in Adana an epidemic of mushroom poisoning caused the deaths of over 20 individuals and cases of poisoning are not uncommon in Istanbul during the late summer and early autumn.In this paper we report three cases of amanita mushroom ingestion and their management and discuss briefly the pathogenesis and treatment.

Traumatic injuries or congenital malformations may cause soft and hard tissue defects resulting in the loss of alveolar bone and attached mucosa. Restoring the defective area presents a challenge for clinicians. The prosthetic rehabilitation of 2 patients with maxillary dentoalveolar defects with 2 different prosthetic designs is presented. The esthetic and functional requirements of the patients were fulfilled.
