15. Efficient characterization of quantum nondemolition qubit readout

Abstract

We study the quantitative characterization of the performance of qubit measurements in this paper. In particular, the back-action evading nature of quantum nondemolition (QND) readout of qubits is fully quantified by quantum trace distance. Only computational basis states are necessary to be taken into consideration. Most importantly, we propose an experimentally efficient method to evaluate the QND fidelity based on the classical trace distance, which uses an experimental scheme with two consecutive measurements. The three key quantifiers of a measurement, i.e., QND fidelity, readout fidelity, and projectivity, can be derived directly from the same experimental scheme. Besides, we present the relationships among these three factors. Theoretical simulation results for the dispersive readout of superconducting qubits show the validity of the proposed QND fidelity. Efficient quantification of measurement performance is of practical significance for the diagnosis, performance improvement, and design of measurement apparatuses., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

16. Impact of magnetic field on giant dipole resonance of $^{40}$Ca using the EQMD model

Abstract

By taking into account the magnetic field in the extended quantum molecular dynamics model (EQMD), we analyzed its effects on giant dipole resonance (GDR) by studying the responses and strengths of the dipole moments. The selected system is the $^{40}$Ca nucleus which is excited through the Coulomb interaction by $^{16}$O. Particle acceleration term in Li\'enard-Wiechert potential is discussed which, however, has small impact on magnetic field. The peak energy, strength and width of GDR, temperature, and angular momentum of $^{40}$Ca as a function of beam energy are investigated. It is found that the magnetic field enhances the peak energy, strength and width of GDR which is not only due to the temperature effects but also due to the enhancement of the angular momentum of nucleus. At beam energy {E} $>$ 200 MeV/nucleon, magnetic field maintains a constant value for the strength of GDR. 50. Side information -driven quantum composite control for protecting a qubit

Abstract

We study protection of a qubit that transfer through a decoherence noise by quantum control technique. In this work, we assume that the communication participants have some side information about the qubit. Our aim is to take fully advantage of given side information to design a quantum control scheme that makes the output state close to the input state as better as possible. Especially, in this paper, we consider the quantum composite control (QCC) structure, which has shown to capture a better balance between fidelity and success probability, i.e., two essential measures for protection. Comparison has been made between our scheme and previous ones. We show there's advantages in two aspects. On one hand, when compared with the scheme that has taking fully consideration of classical side information but not quantum one, our scheme achieves higher fidelity. Inversely, when the scheme with quantum side information but not classical one is considered, our scheme also has nontrivial improvement.
