Most studies have shown a link between chronotypes and mental health and have identified evening chronotypes (E-types) as a potential risk for depressive symptoms. However, the mechanisms behind this association remain unknown. Abnormal expression of the PER1 gene was not only associated with circadian rhythm disturbance, but also closely related to mental illness. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the association of chronotype with depressive symptoms, and further explore the moderating effects of the PER1 gene DNA methylation on chronotypes and depressive symptoms in Chinese university students. In a stratified cluster sampling design, chronotype and depressive symptoms were assessed in 1 042 university students from 2 universities in a two-year prospective survey from April 2019 to October 2020. The survey was conducted once every 6 months, corresponding to the time points in April 2019 (T0), October 2019 (T1), April 2020 (T2), and October 2020 (T3). At T0, the Morning and Evening Questionnaire 5 (MEQ-5) was adopted to assess chronotype. At T0-T3, the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) was adopted to investigate depressive symptoms. Meanwhile, at T0, participants were subjected to a health check-up trip in the hospital, and blood samples were taken from the students to measure the PER1 gene DNA methylation levels. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the association of chronotypes with depressive symptoms. The depression/total depression group was coded as 1, while the remaining participants was defined as one group, and was coded as 0. The PROCESS plug-in of SPSS software was used to analyze the moderating effects of PER1 gene DNA methylation on the association of chronotype with depressive symptoms. After adjusting for covariates, the results indicated that T0 E-types were positively correlated with T0-T3 depression/total depression in female university students. Furthermore, the PER1 gene DNA methylation has negative moderating effects between T0 chronotype and T3 depressive symptoms and has a sex difference. Viscous behaviour is a significant characteristic of soil, and to accurately capture this behaviour, a piecewise-linear model called ACLC has been developed specifically for modelling one-dimensional large-strain consolidation of soft clay. ACLC takes into account both the long-term deformation and anisotropy of the soil. Furthermore, it incorporates various factors such as soil heterogeneity, self-weight, time-dependent loading, vertical flows, and seepage force. In ACLC, the settlement of the soil layer is a result of both the net outflow of fluid from the soil element and the development of soil creep. To describe the creep behaviour of the soil, ACLC employs two yield surfaces: the Current State Surface (CSS) and the Normal Consolidation Surface (NCS). The creep rates are calculated based on the associated flow rule. To ensure the accuracy of ACLC, it is validated using the enhanced CS2 model, oedometer tests conducted on Xiaoshan soft clay, and observed data from the Murro test embankment. Finally, the influence of ACLC parameters on the consolidation behaviour of clay is thoroughly investigated. The effective implementation of environmental regulations is crucial for mitigating environmental pollution. During the regulatory process, local governments engage in an interactive game. Based on sample data from 275 Chinese cities between 2012 and 2020, our findings demonstrate that local governments adopt imitative strategies, resulting in a "race to the top competition" in environmental regulation. The attention given by local governments to environmental protection, combined with the central government's restrictions on emission reduction targets, enhances the effectiveness of carbon emission reduction through environmental regulation. However, the inhibitory effect of environmental regulation on carbon emissions is diminished when local governments attract low-quality foreign direct investment (FDI). Additionally, both local and neighborhood effects of environmental regulation exhibit significantly positive impacts on carbon emissions in the eastern and central regions. In contrast, the western regions show significantly negative effects. Finally, our study reveals that environmental regulation has positive carbon emission reduction effects in non-pollution and pollution-prevention cities, as well as resource and non-resource cities. Colibacillosis is an acute and chronic avian disease caused by avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC). Previous studies have demonstrated that RIP2 plays a significant role in APEC infection. Moreover, increasing evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in host–pathogen interactions and the immune response. However, the role of miRNAs in the host against APEC infection remains unclear. Herein, we attempted to reveal new miRNAs potentially involved in the regulation of the immune and inflammatory response against APEC infection, with a particular focus on those possibly correlated with RIP2 expression, via miRNA-seq, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, dual-luciferase reporter assay, and CCK-8. The results showed that a total of 93 and 148 differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs were identified in the knockdown of RIP2 cells following APEC infection (shRIP2+APEC) vs. knockdown of RIP2 cells (shRIP2) and shRIP2 vs. wild-type cells (WT), respectively. Among those identified DE miRNAs, the biological function of gga-miR-455-5p was investigated. It was found that gga-miR-455-5p regulated by RIP2 was involved in the immune and inflammatory response against APEC infection via targeting of IRF2 to modulate the expression of type I interferons. Additionally, RIP2 could directly regulate the production of the type I interferons. Accordingly, an inertial-aided star pattern matching method for distributed multiple FoVs is proposed. First, the observation and fusion principles of distributed multiple FoVs are illustrated. Then, an inertial-aided star pattern matching scheme is designed based on the space-time distribution of the line-of sight (LoS) vector and inertial measurement information. Next, an LoS vector estimation method assisted by inertial information and the dynamic establishment of a distributed local catalog are proposed. Finally, in a simulation, the dynamic establishment of the part catalog improves the efficiency of star pattern matching by reducing the catalog scale, and the usability of inertial-aided star pattern matching is analyzed for different gyro and accelerometer precisions. Background: Receptor interacting serine/threonine kinase 2 (RIP2), ubiquitous in many tissue/cell types, is the key regulator of immune and inflammatory responses for many diseases, including avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC), which causes a wide variety of localized or systemic infections. However, the molecular mechanisms by which RIP2 drives its transcriptional program to affect immune and inflammatory response upon APEC infection remains poorly understood. Results: In this study, RNA-seq and bioinformatics analyses were used to detect gene expression and new direct/indirect RIP2 targets in the treatments of wild type HD11 cells (WT), RIP2 knockdown cells (shRIP2), APEC stimulation cells (APEC), and RIP2 knockdown cells combined with APEC infection (shRIP2 + APEC). The results revealed that a total of 4691 and 2605 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened in shRIP2 + APEC vs. APEC and shRIP2 vs. WT, respectively. Functional annotation analysis showed that apoptosis, MAPK, p53, Toll-like receptor, and Nod-like receptor signaling pathways were involved in APEC-induced RIP2 knockdown HD11 cells. By analyzing the enriched pathway and gene networks, we identified that several DEGs, including HSP90AB1, BID, and CASP9 were targeted by RIP2 upon APEC infection. Conclusion: As a whole, this study can not only provide data support for constructing gene networks of RIP2 knockdown with APEC challenge but also provide new ideas for improving the immune and inflammatory response. Background: Antiangiogenic treatments play an important role in the therapeutic strategy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Apatinib is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of apatinib therapy in metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients.Methods: Between January 2018 and November 2018, we enrolled 53 metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients. Apatinib was administered at an initial dose of 500 mg once daily. The disease control rate, objective response rate, progression-free survival, and adverse events were reviewed and evaluated.Findings: Among the 53 patients, 14 achieved partial response and 31 achieved stable disease. Thus, the disease control rate was 84.9% and the objective response rate was 26.4%. The median progression-free survival was 11.2 months (95% confidence interval: 9.884-12.574). Most of the adverse events (AEs) were at grade 1 or 2, and the main grade 3 AEs were hypertension (5.7%), anemia (3.8%), and thrombocytopenia (3.8%).Interpretation: Apatinib showed promising efficacy and manageable toxicity in metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients, giving potent evidence to conduct further clinical trials. Pulsed electrolysis endowed merits of high current density, low energy consumption, and simple operation; thus, a booming in their publication numbers has been witnessed in recent years. In this review, we aim to summarize the state-of-the-art pulsed current/potential strategy to enhance electrochemical reactions, such as oxygen reduction reactions (ORR), CO2 reduction (CO2RR), CO reduction (COR), etc. It begins with historic analysis of pulsed electrolysis via a bibliometric method, aiming at providing a progress over the course of around 40 years in a quantitative way. Then, the definition along with its influence of electronic effect, double layer effect and mass transport have been reviewed based on a mechanism point of view for the first time. Microorganisms in the human body play a vital role in metabolism, immune defense, nutrient absorption, cancer control, and prevention of pathogen colonization. More and more biological and clinical studies have shown that the imbalance of microbial communities is closely related to the occurrence and development of various complex human diseases. Finding potential microbial-disease associations is critical for understanding the pathology of a few diseases and thus further improving disease diagnosis and prognosis. In this study, we proposed a novel computational model to predict disease-associated microbes. Specifically, we first constructed a heterogeneous interconnection network based on known microbe-disease associations deposited in a few databases, the similarity between diseases, and the similarity between microorganisms. We then predicted novel microbe-disease associations by a new method called the double-ended restart random walk model (DRWHMDA) implemented on the interconnection network. In addition, we performed case studies of colon cancer and asthma for further evaluation. The results indicate that 10 and 9 of the top 10 microorganisms predicted to be associated with colorectal cancer and asthma were validated by relevant literatures, respectively. Our method is expected to be effective in identifying disease-related microorganisms and will help to reveal the relationship between microorganisms and complex human diseases. The efficient biohybrid photocatalysts were prepared with different weight ratios of Fe2O3 and treated rape pollen (TRP). The synthesized samples were characterized by different analytical techniques. The results showed that carbonized rape pollen had a three-dimensional skeleton and granular Fe2O3 uniformly covered the surface of TRP. The Fe2O3/TRP samples were used for degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) and Escherichia Coli (E. coli) disinfection in water under visible light. The degradation of MB and inactivation of E. coli was achieved to 93.7% in 300 min and 99.14% in 100 min, respectively. We also explored the mechanism during the reaction process, where reactive oxygen species (ROS) including hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals play a major role throughout the reaction process. Sclerotinia rot infected by cosmopolitan fungi Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a serious and destructive disease in carrot production, especially during their postharvest storage. Natural products with the advantages of environmentally friendly and safety have been widely concerned. This research estimated the impact of hinokitiol against S. sclerotiorum and on the quality of carrots. In vitro and in vivo tests demonstrated that hinokitiol had promising antifungal activities against both carbendazim-susceptible and -resistant isolates of S. sclerotiorum. Importantly, it effectively kept the quality and prolonged the shelf life of carrot by declining the loss of weight, ascorbic acid, carotenoid, and total phenolics content, preventing the formation of malondialdehyde, and enhancing the activities of antioxidant enzymes. Further study found that hinokitiol inhibited the formation of sclerotia by destroying the morphology and the integrality of cell membrane, reduced the pathogenicity by suppressing the synthesis of oxalic acid and exopolysaccharide, declined the activities of enzymes and the gene expression related to sclerotia development in S. sclerotiorum. These information evidenced the great potential of hinokitiol as a natural fresh-keeping agent for the management of postharvest decay infected by S. sclerotiorum. • Hinokitiol had promising antimicrobial activities against S. sclerotiorum. • It maintained the quality and extend the shelf life of carrots. • It inhibited the myceliogenic and carpogenic germination of sclerotia. • Hinokitiol prevented the development of sclerotia might the main action mechanism. Developing high-performance microwave absorption (MA) materials becomes an urgent concern in the field of electromagnetic protection. Constructing porous framework is an efficient approach to MA owing to the abilities of adjusting impedance matching and providing more reflection and scattering paths for electromagnetic waves. Herein, a cellulose nanofibril (CNF)/honeycomb-like carbon-shell encapsulated FeCoNi@C/carbon nanotube (CNT) composite aerogel was fabricated via a facile freeze-drying method. The super-lightweight composites showed a distinctive gradient structure for reflection and scattering inside aerogel pores, micrometer small pores, and nano-fillers on the pore walls. The composite aerogel showed an ideal minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −43.6 dB and remarkable adjustable effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 12.18 GHz due to good impedance matching, unique gradient porous structure, and synergies of multiple loss mechanisms. Therefore, this work will provide a viable strategy to improve the MA capability of absorbers by taking full advantage of constructing gradient reflection and scattering porous structure. The survivability of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) in complex missions and dangerous situations is of great significance to ocean resource exploration, hydrological research, maritime rescue, and undersea military. Existing researches on motion control for the AUV mainly focus on its normal operating, but the active self-rescue method in emergency situations is hardly found. As classical control methods are not sufficient enough for complicated self-rescue missions of the AUV, this paper uses the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm to solve this problem because the DRL algorithm has the advantages in learning and decision making for complex robot control missions. In this paper, the normal motion control of the AUV based on the deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm is explored, including the yaw angle adjustment, yaw angle adjustment extension, trajectory tracking, and normal floating-up control of the AUV. Then, active self-rescue methods are successfully achieved to recover the AUV from emergencies, such as ocean water density decreasing sharply or one fin getting jammed at a random angle. What is more, real environment experiments are successfully conducted on a self-developed platform of the AUV to validate the feasibility of the proposed control methods. [Display omitted] • Atmospheric pesticides were characterized by a year-long 10-site sampling campaign. • Higher concentrations of atmospheric pesticides were observed in spring and summer. • Atmospheric pesticide residues are strongly influenced by cropping systems. • The risk of pesticide inhalation exposure to residents and wildlife is negligible. The intensive use of pesticides in the North China Plain (NCP) has resulted in widespread contamination of pesticides in the local atmosphere, posing risks to air quality and human health. However, the occurrence and distribution of atmospheric pesticides in the NCP as well as their risk assessment have not been well investigated. In this study, 300 monthly samples were collected using passive air samplers with polyurethane foam at ten rural sites with different crop systems in Quzhou county, the NCP, from June 2021 to May 2022. The pesticides were quantified using mass-spectrometric techniques. Our results revealed that chlorpyrifos, carbendazim, and atrazine were the most frequently found pesticides in the air samples, with detection frequencies of ≥ 87 % across the samples. The average concentrations of atmospheric pesticides during spring (7.47 pg m−3) and summer (16.05 pg m−3) were significantly higher than those during autumn (2.04 pg m−3) and winter (1.71 pg m−3), attributable to the intensified application of pesticides during the warmer seasons. Additionally, cash crop sites exhibited higher concentrations (10.26 pg m−3) of atmospheric pesticides compared to grain crop (5.59 pg m−3) and greenhouse sites (3.81 pg m−3), primarily due to more frequent pesticides spraying events in cash crop fields. These findings indicate a distinct spatial–temporal distribution pattern of atmospheric pesticides influenced by both seasons and crop systems. Furthermore, the model-based inhalation risk assessment indicates that inhalation exposure to atmospheric pesticides is unlikely to pose a significant public concern. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract This paper studies the long-termed displacement of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) resting on soft clay during its unscheduled stoppage for 100 days. It is based on a real case of tunneling in a coastal city of Ningbo in China. The numerical prediction is carried out by using different soil models in the software PLAXIS, and the prediction is compared with on-site measurement of the displacement. Different factors are considered in the prediction, including soil creeping and the disturbance to the soft clay during the tunneling. The study indicates that the consideration of disturbance is essential to the accurate prediction. While advanced soil models including the soft soil model and soft soil creep model are not able to accurately predict the TBM displacement, the consideration of soil disturbance leads to a very good agreement with the measurement. The reuse of the waste crumb rubber (CR) is of great significance to alleviate the increasingly serious black pollution problem. Herein, low-cost electromagnetic microwave absorption (EMA) CR composites assisted by conductive carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and magnetic Fe 3 O 4 are fabricated with the aid of microwave. The effects of the addition of CNTs and Fe 3 O 4 on the structure and morphology, and EMA properties of the CR@CNT/Fe 3 O 4 composite are evaluated in detail. The resulted composite can exhibit a superior minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −60.46 dB at 14.19 GHz with a thickness of 2.3 mm, and a wide effective absorption bandwidth of 5.5 GHz (11.2–16.7 GHz) due to the synergy effect of coordinated dielectric and magnetic losses, good interface impedance matching, and internal multiple reflections. This composite recycling from waste tire rubber is expected to become a potential candidate as a low-cost microwave absorber for reducing electromagnetic and black pollution. Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum musae is a devastating post-harvest disease on bananas, and it leads to serious economic losses. Exploring environmentally friendly natural compounds to manage anthracnose in fruit has been attracting more attention. In the current study, the effect of hinokitiol against C. musae and on banana quality was investigated. Our results showed that hinokitiol exhibited promising antifungal activities both in vitro and in vivo. Importantly, it effectively delayed banana ripening by maintaining weight, color, firmness, and TSS content, and it dramatically reduced the release of ethylene, the respiration rate, and the expression of genes involved in releasing ethylene. Moreover, the activities of defense-related enzymes including SOD, POD, and APX were enhanced by hinokitiol. The mechanism of hinokitiol against C. musae may be attributed to the destruction on the integrity of the plasma membrane, which leads to the leakage of cellular constituents and eventually the cell death of C. musae.
