16. Which endoscopic severity assessment tool correlates best with non-invasive Crohn's disease activity parameters?

Abstract

This article examines the agreement and correlation between different endoscopic severity assessment tools for Crohn's disease (CD) and laboratory non-invasive parameters such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and fecal calprotectin (FC). The study included 312 ileocolonoscopies from 246 CD patients and found that the Simple Endoscopic Score for Crohn's Disease (SES-CD), Modified Multiplier SES-CD (MM-SES-CD), and Toronto Inflammatory Bowel Disease Global Endoscopic Reporting (TIGER) score had varying levels of agreement and correlation with CRP and FC. The authors conclude that while these endoscopic severity scores have moderate to strong agreement in assessing endoscopic activity, their correlation with laboratory non-invasive biomarkers is suboptimal.
