O chamado pensamento computacional pode ser entendido como um conjunto de ações lógicas que visam solucionar um problema ou realizar uma ação. Para que o estudante de Biologia possa se familiarizar com conceitos do pensamento computacional, foi desenvolvido um material didático cuja finalidade é apresentar uma atividade de Genética que pode ser realizada em sala de aula, na qual os alunos têm a oportunidade de aplicar o pensamento computacional de forma desplugada, o que permite seu desenvolvimento também em escolas sem recursos tecnológicos. O material didático envolve a aplicação do conhecimento em dois contextos diferentes: em atividades do cotidiano e em uma atividade voltada para a identificação de variantes em sequências de DNA codificantes homólogas, correspondentes à enzima tirosinase, em macacos-pregos brasileiros com fenótipos saudável e albino. A apresentação dos conceitos em diferentes contextos favorece a aquisição gradual de competências e facilita a aplicação dos conhecimentos na análise de sequências biológicas. A atividade apresentada é indicada para aplicação em turmas do ensino médio e sugere-se a utilização de recursos didáticos de ensino investigativo.

Football is a dynamic collective sport that involves the actions of players on the field, in addition to the availability and application of player data. Being a sport extensively investigated in terms of performance analysis, there is still a need for more predictive analyzes to better understand the indicators of success. Due to these aspects, this research aimed to verify the influence of the market value of football clubs, as well as the influence of the venue and the tactical/technical aspects - shots on target, corners, crosses, ball possession and passes -, to win Premier League matches. To carry out this research, data from all 380 matches of the PL 2015/2016 season were used. The Transfermarkt website was used to collect the market value of the teams and the Daily Mail website to collect the matches data. Data analysis was performed using the Weka software. The results showed that the market value and the venue, separately, were not relevant to the victories, but when associated to tactical/technical indicators, both contributed with the victories of the teams. Concept A teams, with higher market values, achieved more victories than the concept C teams, with lower market values, in the home games when the aforementioned associations were analyzed. The results of the performed analyzes show that direct and indirect game actions are relevant for teams to win matches played at home, especially for the ones with higher market value.

Football is the most popular sport in the world and involves the availability of information of footballers and teams to investigate success in this sport. In account of these aspects, the current study aims to analyze the influence of ball possession time, passes and shots on target in winning Premier League football matches. The methodology adopted consists of a quantitative, descriptive and documentary research, in which the sample is represented by all the 380 Premier League (PL) matches of the 2015/2016 season. The analysis process was made by the use of the association technique, present in the data mining process, with the support of the Weka software. The results suggest that shots on target, as well as its interaction with ball possession and passes - total passes, accuracy of passes, accuracy of passes inside the opponent’s field and long passes - influenced the final result of the match. Based on the results, the conclusion is that direct play alternatives, such as presenting less ball possession time and more long passes, associated with more shots on target, showed to be more beneficial for football clubs to win football matches. El fútbol es el deporte más popular del mundo e implica la disponibilidad de información de jugadores y equipos para investigar el éxito en este deporte. Teniendo en cuenta estos aspectos, este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la influencia del tiempo de posesión de balón, pases y tiros a puerta en la victoria de los partidos de fútbol de la Premier League. La metodología adoptada consiste en una investigación cuantitativa, descriptiva y documental, en la que la muestra está representada por los 380 partidos de la Premier League (PL) de la temporada 2015/2016. El proceso de análisis se realizó mediante la técnica de asociación, presente en el proceso de minería de datos, con el apoyo del software Weka. Los resultados sugieren que los tiros a puerta, así como su interacción con la posesión del balón y los pases (pases totales, precisión de pases, precisión de pases dentro del campo contrario y pases largos) influyeron en el resultado final de los partidos. Con base en los resultados, se puede concluir que las alternativas de juego directo, como tener menos tiempo en posesión del balón y más pases largos, asociados a más tiros a portería, fueron más beneficiosas para que los clubes de fútbol ganaran partidos. Tendo em conta estes aspectos, o presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a influência do tempo de posse de bola, dos passes e dos chutes a gol na vitória de jogos de futebol da Premier League. A metodologia adotada consiste em uma pesquisa quantitativa, descritiva e documental, em que a amostra é representada por todos os 380 jogos da Premier League (PL) da temporada 2015/2016. O processo de análise foi feito por meio da utilização da técnica de associação, presente no processo de mineração de dados, com o apoio do software Weka. Os resultados sugerem que os chutes a gol, bem como sua interação com a posse de bola e passes - total de passes, precisão dos passes, precisão dos passes dentro do campo adversário e passes longos - influenciaram o resultado final das partidas. Com base nos resultados, conclui-se que alternativas de jogo direto, como apresentar menos tempo de posse de bola e mais passes longos, associados a mais chutes a gol, mostraram-se mais benéficas para os clubes de futebol vencerem partidas.

With the advances in the genome area, new techniques and automation processes for DNA sequencing, the amount of data produced has increased exponentially. Analyzing this data, in order to identify interesting biological features, is an enormous challenge, especially if it would be done manually. Think about trying to find a specific word in a book, say Don Quixote, and we have to search word by word. How long it would take? Bioinformatics has played an important role trying to help specialists to analyze data of a specific genome. The application of information technology, associated with techniques from applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, and computer science, has allowed the discovering of interesting and important characteristics in genomes, allowing to understand and solve several biological problems, or even to generate more knowledge or insight about the problem and its involved biological processes, what can bring advances in the used techniques. In Computing area, for example, an ordinary type of task is to process texts. There are several problems involving strings, like trying to find a specific word (we could say “to align words”) or a similar one (considering a particular pattern of characters) in a text. When processing genomic data, if it is desired to search for a specific pattern (and its approximations) in DNA sequences, the natural way is to use solutions already implemented. Thus, for pattern (exact or not) search and similar problems, bioinformaticians have developed computational tools that apply techniques and algorithms well-known in Computing area in order to solve these important genomic problems. Sometimes, they need to adapt algorithms for considering specific features of the biological problem. Two good examples of this case are Sequence Aligning and Sequence Assembly, processes resulting of adaptations in algorithms in order to consider insertion, deletion, and substitution of nucleotides in DNA sequences. Some statistical and computational techniques, such as Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), Stochastic Grammars, and Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) have been successfully applied for modeling, analysis, discovery, classification, and alignment of biological sequences (Yoon & Vaidyanathan, 2004, 2005). The technology growth allowing analysis acts to gain more efficiency in football has increased, with performance analysis researches being conducted, since the knowledge of performance indicators that can determine success in football and the need for more predictive analysis to better comprehend them are essential. So, in account of these aspects this research aimed to investigate the influence of crosses, shots, corner kicks and defensive movements in winning Premier League (PL) football matches. The methodology adopted consists of a quantitative, descriptive and documentary research, which the sample is represented by all PL 2015/2016 matches. The analysis acts were made by the utilization of the association technique, present at data mining process, with the support of the software Weka. Results demonstrated the influence of variables in PL victories, suggesting that making a higher number of crosses than opponents was not effective to win PL matches, but that making more shots on goal than opponents was a positive indicative to predict victories, as having more defensive movements and less crosses than opponents as well. About corner kicks, results demonstrated that there is no influence of this component at match results. El crecimiento de la tecnologia está permitiendo que los actos de análises ganen más eficiência en el fútbol, con investigaciones sobre análisis de rendimento siendo realizadas, ya que el conocimiento de los indicadores de rendimento, que pueden determinar el éxito en el fútbol y la necesidad de un análisis más predictivo de estos indicadores son fundamentales. Por lo tanto, considerando estos aspectos, esta investigación presentó como objetivo, investigar la influencia de centros, saques de esquina, remates y movimentos defensivos en las victorias registradas en los partidos de la Premier League (PL). La metodologia consiste en una investigación cuantitativa, descriptiva y documental, en la que la muestra está representada por todos los partidos de la PL 2015/2016. Los análisis se realizaron mediante la técnica de asociación, com el apoyo del software Weka. Los resultados mostraron la influencia de variables en las victorias logradas em la PL, sugiriendo que hacer más centros que los rivales no fue eficiente para ganar partidos em la PL, pero hacer más remates a la portería rival se mostró como un indicador positivo para la conquista de triunfos, así como la superación de rivales en la cantidad de jugadas defensivas y no en centros. En cuanto a los saques de esquina, los resultados mostraron que este indicador no influye en el resultado de los partidos. O crescimento da tecnologia vem permitindo que os atos de análise ganhem superior eficiência no futebol, com pesquisas em análise de rendimento sendo conduzidas, já que o conhecimento de indicadores de rendimento que podem determinar o sucesso no futebol e a necessidade de mais análises preditivas destes indicadores são essenciais. Sendo assim, considerando estes aspectos, essa pesquisa apresentou como objetivo, investigar a influência de cruzamentos, escanteios, finalizações e movimentos defensivos em vitórias registradas nas partidas da Premier League (PL). A metodologia escolhida consiste em uma pesquisa quantitativa, descritiva e documental, na qual a amostra é representada por todas as partidas da PL 2015/2016. As análises foram realizadas pela utilização da técnica de associação, com o suporte do software Weka. Os resultados demonstraram a influência de variáveis nas vitórias conquistadas na PL, sugerindo que realizar um superior número de cruzamentos em relação aos adversários não foi eficiente para ganhar partidas na PL, mas realizar mais finalizações certas que os adversários se mostrou como um indicador positivo para a conquista de triunfos, assim como superar rivais na quantidade de movimentos defensivos e não em cruzamentos. Sobre os escanteios, os resultados demonstraram que não há influência deste indicador no resultado das partidas.

Navigation and mobility are some of the major problems faced by visually impaired people in their daily lives. Advances in computer vision led to the proposal of some navigation systems. However, most of them require expensive and/or heavy hardware. In this paper we propose the use of convolutional neural networks (CNN), transfer learning, and semi-supervised learning (SSL) to build a framework aimed at the visually impaired aid. It has low computational costs and, therefore, may be implemented on current smartphones, without relying on any additional equipment. The smartphone camera can be used to automatically take pictures of the path ahead. Then, they will be immediately classified, providing almost instantaneous feedback to the user. We also propose a dataset to train the classifiers, including indoor and outdoor situations with different types of light, floor, and obstacles. Many different CNN architectures are evaluated as feature extractors and classifiers, by fine-tuning weights pre-trained on a much larger dataset. The graph-based SSL method, known as particle competition and cooperation, is also used for classification, allowing feedback from the user to be incorporated without retraining the underlying network. 92\% and 80\% classification accuracy is achieved in the proposed dataset in the best supervised and SSL scenarios, respectively., Comment: BREVE, Fabricio Aparecido; FISCHER, Carlos Norberto. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a avaliação financeira de atletas atuantes no continente europeu por meio do website Transfermarkt® (TM) e do jogo Football Manager® (FM), verificando a confiabilidade de tais colaborações para os clubes reais. A amostra utilizada foi composta por 52 atletas, presentes em ambas as plataformas. Eles foram separados em dois grupos de 26 atletas, com o primeiro composto por jogadores profissionais de 18 a 20 anos (G1), e o segundo contando com atletas de 21 a 23 anos (G2). As informações coletadas foram tratadas por meio do cálculo da média (M) e do desvio padrão (DP) dos valores de comercialização dos atletas no início da temporada 2015/2016, sendo apresentados como valores percentuais. Para fins de análise intragrupo, o grupo G1 apresentou uma diferença de 1,2%, apontando um maior valor de mercado dos jogadores do FM. Na análise do G2 o valor encontrado foi de 10,9%, ou seja, o FM apresentou maior valor de mercado para os jogadores desse grupo em comparação ao TM. Por fim, o jogo eletrônico FM e o website TM apresentaram-se como efetivas ferramentas para os clubes de futebol, permitindo um fácil acesso à relevantes informações acerca do mercado.

For the learning of pHMMs aimed to search for TEs of the retrotransposon class, the conventional protocol is to use the whole internal nucleotide portions of these elements as representative sequences. To further explore the potential of pHMMs in such a search, we propose five alternative ways to obtain the sets of representative sequences of TEs other than the conventional protocol. In this study, we are interested in Bel-PAO, Copia, Gypsy, and DIRS superfamilies from the retrotransposon class. We compared the pHMMs of all six protocols. The test results show that, for each TE superfamily, the pHMMs of at least two of the proposed protocols performed better than the conventional one and that the number of correct predictions provided by the latter can be improved by considering together the results of one or more of the alternative protocols. Transposable elements (TEs) are repetitive nucleotide sequences that make up a large portion of eukaryotic genomes. They can move and duplicate within a genome, increasing genome size and contributing to genetic diversity within and across species. Accurate identification and classification of TEs present in a genome is an important step towards understanding their effects on genes and their role in genome evolution. We introduce TE-Learner, a framework based on machine learning that automatically identifies TEs in a given genome and assigns a classification to them. We present an implementation of our framework towards LTR retrotransposons, a particular type of TEs characterized by having long terminal repeats (LTRs) at their boundaries. We evaluate the predictive performance of our framework on the well-annotated genomes of Drosophila melanogaster and Arabidopsis thaliana and we compare our results for three LTR retrotransposon superfamilies with the results of three widely used methods for TE identification or classification: RepeatMasker, Censor and LtrDigest. In contrast to these methods, TE-Learner is the first to incorporate machine learning techniques, outperforming these methods in terms of predictive performance, while able to learn models and make predictions efficiently. Moreover, we show that our method was able to identify TEs that none of the above method could find, and we investigated TE-Learner’s predictions which did not correspond to an official annotation. It turns out that many of these predictions are in fact strongly homologous to a known TE., Author summary Over the years, with the increase of the acquisition of biological data, the extraction of knowledge from this data is getting more important. To understand how biology works is very important to increase the quality of the products and services which use biological data. This directly influences companies and governments, which need to remain in the knowledge frontier of an increasing competitive economy. Transposable Elements (TEs) are an example of very important biological data, and to understand their role in the genomes of organisms is very important for the development of products based on biological data. As an example, we can cite the production biofuels such as the sugar-cane-based ones. Many studies have revealed the presence of active TEs in this plant, which has gained economic importance in many countries. To understand how TEs influence the plant should help researchers to develop more resistant varieties of sugar-cane, increasing the production. Thus, the development of computational methods able to help biologists in the correct identification and classification of TEs is very important from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), a chronic and usually permanent condition found in children, is characterized by motor impairment that interferes with a child's activities of daily living and with academic achievement. One of the most popular tests for the quantitative diagnosis of DCD is the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC). Based on the Battery's standardized scores, it is possible to identify children with typical development, children at risk of developing DCD, and children with DCD. This article describes a computational system we developed to assist with the analysis of results obtained in the MABC test. The tool was developed for the web environment and its database provides integration of MABC data. Thus, researchers around the world can share data and develop collaborative work in the DCD field. In order to help analysis processes, our system provides services for filtering data to show more specific sets of information and present the results in textual, table, and graphic formats, allowing easier and more comprehensive evaluation of the results. O Transtorno do Desenvolvimento da Coordenação (TDC), uma condição crônica e, geralmente, encontrada em crianças, é caracterizado por comprometimento motor que interfere nas atividades de vida diária de uma criança e em seu desempenho acadêmico. Um dos testes mais populares para o diagnóstico quantitativo do TDC é a bateria Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC). Com base em escores padronizados da bateria, é possível identificar as crianças com desenvolvimento típico, crianças com risco de desenvolver o TDC e crianças com TDC. Este artigo descreve um sistema computacional que desenvolvemos para ajudar com a análise dos resultados obtidos na bateria MABC. A ferramenta foi desenvolvida para o ambiente web e sua base de dados fornece integração dos dados da MABC. Assim, pesquisadores de todo o mundo podem compartilhar dados e desenvolver trabalho colaborativo na área do TDC. A fim de ajudar os processos de análise, nosso sistema fornece serviços de filtragem de dados para mostrar conjuntos mais específicos de informação e apresentar os resultados em formato de texto, tabela e gráficos, permitindo a avaliação mais fácil e mais abrangente dos resultados. Trastorno del Desarrollo de la Coordinación (TDC), una condición permanente crónica y generalment se encuentran en los niños, se caracteriza por alteraciones motoras que interfiere con las actividades de la vida diaria de un niño y con el rendimiento académico. Una de las pruebas más populares para el diagnóstico cuantitativo del TDC es la batería Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC). En base a los puntajes estandarizados de la batería, es posible identificar a los niños con un desarrollo típico, los niños en situación de riesgo de desarrollar TDC, y los niños con TDC. En este artículo se describe un sistema computacional que hemos desarrollado para ayudar en el análisis de los resultados obtenidos en la prueba MABC. La herramienta fue desarrollada para el ambiente web y su base de datos proporciona integración de datos MABC. Por lo tanto, los investigadores de todo el mundo pueden compartir datos y desarrollar el trabajo de colaboración en el campo de TDC. Con el fin de ayudar a los procesos de análisis, nuestro sistema ofrece servicios de filtrado de datos para mostrar los conjuntos más específicos de información y presentar los resultados en formatos del texto, tablas y gráficos, lo que permite la evaluación más fácil y más completa de los resultados.

Objetivo: Analisar o efeito da dupla tarefa sobre os parâmetros espaçotemporais da marcha. Métodos: Participaram 32 sujeitos de ambos os sexos com idade entre 18 e 25 anos. O teste Timed Up and Go foi aplicado sob duas condições: na forma original e associado à tarefa cognitiva (verbalizar os meses do ano em ordem inversa). Foi avaliado o tempo total de execução, número de passos, cadência, tempo gasto para levantar, velocidade média e variabilidade do tempo de passo. Resultados: Com a adição da tarefa cognitiva, foram observadas mudanças em diversos dos parâmetros espaçotemporais da marcha analisados. Conclusão: Os testes realizados mostraram que o incremento de tarefas cognitivas durante a deambulação pode acarretar alterações no desempenho desta atividade. Introduction: Biomechanical analysis of gait can be used effectively to identify changes in movement patterns and functional decline. Objective: To analyze the effect of dual task on gait spatio-temporal variables. Methods: The sample was made up of 32 subjects of both genders aged between 18 and 25 years. The test Timed Up and Go was performed under two conditions: original form and associated with a cognitive task (verbalize backwards the months of the year). We evaluated the total execution time, number of steps, cadence, time spent to lift, average speed and variability of the step time. Results: Significant changes were observed with the addition of the cognitive task in many gait spatio-temporal variables analyzed. Conclusion: The tests showed that the increase of cognitive tasks during walking may lead to changes in the performance of this task. Nesta tese são analisados projetos alternativos para servidores de arquivos baseados em rede local e as suas influencias sobre o desempenho desses sistemas. Modelos de simulação foram usados como ferramentas auxiliares. O servidor de arquivos do sistema distribuído TRICE foi usado como ambiente de referencia para o desenvolvimento do sistema usado nas analises. O modelo construído representa as características de interesse daquele servidor de arquivos. Dados colhidos junto ao sistema foram usados nos processos de construção e de validação do sistema de simulação. Os programas de simulação são implementados em GPSS/H, uma linguagem de programação com ferramentas apropriadas para simulações de sistemas. Varias técnicas que podem ser aplicadas na construção de servidores de arquivos, visando obtenção de sistemas de alto desempenho, são analisadas usando o sistema de simulação desenvolvido. Os resultados demonstraram os grandes benefícios que podem ser obtidos em nível de desempenho se as técnicas forem consideradas em projetos de servidores de arquivos. Dentre as técnicas, destaca-se o uso de múltiplos discos, onde os acessos a dados são realizados apenas a áreas parciais dos dispositivos. O seu uso permite a obtenção de um servidor de arquivos de alto desempenho e de grande confiabilidade. Um protótipo foi construído para demonstrar a exeqüibilidade de implementação dessa técnica Alternative designs of LAN-based file servers are evaluated and the influence of these designs on the file server performance is investigated in this thesis. Simulation models were used as auxiliary tools in the analysis. The TRICE file server was utilized as a reference environment for development of the simulation system used in the analysis. The model represents the main characteristics of a file server. Data acquired from the TRICE system were used to construct and validate the simulation system. The simulation programs utilized in the analysis were implemented in GPSS/H, a programming language that presents appropriate tools for systems simulation. Several techniques that can be applied on the construction of file servers to obtain high performance are analyzed using the simulation system developed. Simulation results demonstrate the benefit obtained on the performance when the techniques considered are used in file server designs. A technique that deserves special attention is the utilization of multiple disks, where the accesses to data are realized in partial areas of the devices. The utilization of this technique allows obtaining a high performance file server with high reliability. A prototype was built to demonstrate that the technique proposed can be implemented

All sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osb.) varieties are susceptible to X. fastidiosa. on the other hand, mandarins (C. reticulata Blanco) are considered tolerant or resistant to the disease, although the bacterium can be sporadically detected within the trees, but no disease symptoms or economic losses are observed. To study their genetic responses to the presence of X. fastidiosa, we have compared EST libraries of leaf tissue of sweet orange Pêra IAC (highly susceptible cultivar to X. fastidiosa) and mandarin Ponkan (tolerant) artificially infected with the bacterium. Using an in silico differential display, 172 genes were found to be significantly differentially expressed in such conditions. Sweet orange presented an increase in expression of photosynthesis related genes that could reveal a strategy to counterbalance a possible lower photosynthetic activity resulting from early effects of the bacterial colonization in affected plants. on the other hand, mandarin showed an active multi-component defense response against the bacterium similar to the non-host resistance pattern. Profile hidden Markov models (profile HMMs) are known to efficiently predict whether an amino acid (AA) sequence belongs to a specific protein family. Profile HMMs can also be used to search for protein domains in genome sequences. In this case, HMMs are typically learned from AA sequences and then used to search on the six-frame translation of nucleotide (NT) sequences. However, this approach demands additional processing of the original data and search results. Here, we propose an alternative and more direct method which converts an AA alignment into an NT one, after which an NT-based HMM is trained to be applied directly on a genome. Objetivo Este trabalho visa apresentar um aplicativo computacional, disponivel na Internet, desenvolvido para mostrar que a simples mudanca de comportamento das pessoas, de sedentarias para pro-ativas, pode evitar a emissao de gases poluentes na atmosfera e proporcionar, ao mesmo tempo, beneficios a saude e ao bem-estar desses individuos. Metodos Por intermedio de equacoes matematicas, fatores de conversao obtidos em literatura e parâmetros escolhidos pelo usuario, calculam-se o gasto de energia e a taxa de emagrecimento, quando da escolha da atividade fisica e a emissao de CO2 e o custo em determinado periodo, quando da utilizacao do veiculo automotor. O aplicativo pode ser acessado livremente por meio do endereco eletronico http://gbirc.rc.unesp.br/calcular_impacto/. Resultados Os resultados do aplicativo sao apresentados em formato numerico e em unidades bem conhecidas pelas pessoas, tornando facil sua interpretacao e evidenciando possiveis contribuicoes do sedentarismo para o aumento na emissao de gases poluentes. Conclusao Mesmo que o impacto do sedentarismo ao meio ambiente seja de pequenas proporcoes, a mudanca de atitude sedentaria para ativa de cada individuo, quando se leva em conta a acao repetida e realizada por um grande numero de pessoas, pode trazer grandes beneficios a preservacao do meio ambiente. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2005-12-01 Transposable elements (TE) are major components of eukaryotic genomes and involved in cell regulation and organism evolution. We have analyzed 123,889 expressed sequence tags of the Eucalyptus Genome Project database and found 124 sequences representing 76 TE in 9 groups, of which copia, MuDR and FAR1 groups were the most abundant. The low amount of sequences of TE may reflect the high efficiency of repression of these elements, a process that is called TE silencing. Frequency of groups of TE in Eucalyptus libraries which were prepared with different tissues or physiologic conditions from seedlings or adult plants indicated that developing plants experience the expression of a much wider spectrum of TE groups than that seen in adult plants. These are preliminary results that identify the most relevant TE groups involved with Eucalyptus development, which is important for industrial wood production. The main goal of our research was to search for SSRs in the Eucalyptus EST FORESTs database (using a software for mining SSR-motifs). With this objective, we created a database for cataloging Eucalyptus EST-derived SSRs, and developed a bioinformatics tool, named Satellyptus, for finding and analyzing microsatellites in the Eucalyptus EST database. The search for microsatellites in the FORESTs database containing 71,115 Eucalyptus EST sequences (52.09 Mb) revealed 20,530 SSRs in 15,621 ESTs. The SSR abundance detected on the Eucalyptus ESTs database (29% or one microsatellite every four sequences) is considered very high for plants. Amongst the categories of SSR motifs, the dimeric (37%) and trimeric ones (33%) predominated. The AG/CT motif was the most frequent (35.15%) followed by the trimeric CCG/CGG (12.81%). From a random sample of 1,217 sequences, 343 microsatellites in 265 SSR-containing sequences were identified. Approximately 48% of these ESTs containing microsatellites were homologous to proteins with known biological function. Most of the microsatellites detected in Eucalyptus ESTs were positioned at either the 5 or 3 end. Our next priority involves the design of flanking primers for codominant SSR loci, which could lead to the development of a set of microsatellite-based markers suitable for marker-assisted Eucalyptus breeding programs., Genetics and Molecular Biology, 28 (3), ISSN:1415-4757, ISSN:1678-4685
