En esta tesis se presentael estudio de la digestión anaerobia de lirio acuático (Eichornia crassipes) en dos etapas: la hidrólisis y acidogénesis de la fracción sólida de lirio acuático en un reactor hidrolítico anaerobio de lecho escurrido (RHALE) y la metanogénesis de la fracción liquidadel lirio acuático en mezcla con agua residual urbana (ARU) y lixiviados del reactor RHALEen un reactor demanto de lodos de flujo ascendente (UASB) en continuo, con el fin de mejorar las condiciones de cultivo para cada uno de los grupos microbianos involucrados en las diferentes etapas. El lirio acuático fue recolectado del canal de Cuemanco, en Xochimilco,y después de disminuir el tamaño de partícula se separóla fracción sólida de la líquidaa través de una molienda y tamizado. La fracción sólida fue fermentada en un RHALE en lote para obtener lixiviados con altasconcentraciones de compuestos solubles (AGV) y buenas eficiencias de reducción de lossólidos volátiles. La fracción acuosa fue metanizada en el UASB presentando eficienciaspor arriba del 85%de remoción de la DQO en todas las cargas orgánicas probadas yel biogás producidopresentó entre el 75 al 85 %demetano.Los resultados de hidrólisis en el RHALE en lote mostraron una reduccióndel 42.5% de solidos volátiles en 50 días y una disminución en el pHde 6.7 a 4.6 ambosresultados indican que hubouna hidrolisis y acidogénesis de la fracción sólida en el reactor.Los resultados en continuo mostraronuna reduccióndel 36% de solidos totales con unTRS de 15días. ElpH promedio durante la fase experimental para el digestato fue de 5.4 y del lixiviado de 5.3En el reactor metanogénico que fue alimentado con la fracción acuosa en mezcla con ARUy lixiviados del RHALE, la mayor producción de biogás (7Lbiogás/Lr*día) se obtuvo con una carga orgánica de 4.5gDQO/Lreactor*d., con un75% de metanoen el biogás. Se instaló en el Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas Acuícolas (CIBAC) un sistema integral anivel piloto utilizando la mejor alimentación obtenida a nivel laboratorio, para tratar de 8 a10 Kg de lirio por día.Se concluye que bajo estas condiciones estudiadas es posible producir energíaa partir de un sistema de digestión anaerobia en dos etapas utilizando como materia prima lirio acuático.

Scope Little is known about the changes that a very-low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD) produces in gut microbiota or the effect of synbiotics during the diet. The aim of this study is to evaluate changes in gut microbiota produced by a VLCKD and synbiotic supplementation. Methods and results A randomized, single-blind, parallel-design trial is conducted in 33 obese patients who follow a weight-loss program (PnK-Method) that include a VLCKD followed by a low-calorie diet (LCD). Subjects are randomly allocated to three groups: one supplemented with synbiotics, a second group supplemented with a placebo during the VLCKD and synbiotics during the LCD phase, and a control group given a placebo. Although symbiotic administration do not produce an effect on microbial diversity, an increase in short-chain fatty aciding producing bacteria and anti-inflammatory mediator signals such as Odoribacter and Lachnospira is shown. The administration of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis and prebiotics fiber during the LCD is significantly associated with the percentage of weight loss and change in glucose, C-reactive protein and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein. Conclusions VLCKD produces important changes in gut microbiota. The administration of synbiotics during VLCKD can improve weight loss through the amelioration of inflammation, which may be mediated by the gut microbiota.

Although autologous PBPC transplantation is being used increasingly for the treatment of breast cancer, there are few data on factors influencing mobilization and engraftment in these patients. We have analyzed these factors in 70 patients with advanced or metastatic breast cancer undergoing autologous PBPC transplantation. All patients were mobilized after stimulation with G-CSF, and a median of 3.16 x 10(6)/kg CD34+ cells (range 0.75-23.33) were infused. All patients received conditioning with a combination of cyclophosphamide, thiotepa, and carboplatin, and postinfusion G-CSF was administered to 60 patients. The median times to reach 0.5 x 10(9)/L and 1 x 10(9)/L neutrophils were 10 and 11 days, respectively. The median times to obtain 20 x 10(9)/L and 50 x 10(9)/L platelets were 12 and 18 days, respectively. An analysis of factors that influence CD34+ cell collection was performed by linear regression. Previous radiation therapy and increasing age were associated with lower numbers of CD34+ cells collected. Those variables that could influence the tempo of engraftment were examined by multivariate analysis using Cox regression models. The number of CD34+ cells infused was found to influence both neutrophil and platelet recovery. The use of G-CSF after transplant, accelerated neutrophil recovery, and having more than six cycles of previous chemotherapy was an unfavorable factor for recovering50 x 10(9)/L platelets.
