BACKGROUND: Burnout Syndrome (BS) is a response of organism against long-lasting exposure to occupational stressors. Those affected usually have comorbidities, as well as cardiovascular and metabolic problems. OBJECTIVE: Estimating the association between BS and obesity in primary health care nurses of in the state of Bahia, Brazil. METHODS: Population-analytical, cross-confirmatory, integrated and multicenter study, conducted with a random sample of primary health care nursing professionals in 43 municipalities from 07 mesoregions of Bahia, Brazil. This study was funded by the Brazilian Board for Scientific and Technological Development. The independent variable (BS) was evaluated by using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) scale, and the dependent one (obesity) was based on the Body Mass Index (BMI)≥30. Effect modification and confounding factors were verified by crude, stratified, and multivariate analysis. RESULTS: The prevalence of BS and obesity was 17.7% and 12.7%, respectively. BS was statistically associated with obesity, even after adjustment (RPa: 1.85; CI 95% 1.11–3.06) per gender, age, physical activity, healthy eating, satisfaction with occupation, another job, night shift, primary health care (PHC) time, and working conditions. Effect-modifying variables were not identified. CONCLUSIONS: The specialized literature points out a path to the association identified here. New studies on the subject are relevant and should have more robust methodologies so that the path of causality is better clarified. In addition, occupational health programs become an alternative to control stress and, therefore, its complications, such as burnout and other health aggravations.

The objective of this study was to analyze the association between sociodemographic and occupational variables with the lifestyle of health professionals in pediatric units during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 407 health professionals working in four pediatric health units in the State of Bahia, northeast Brazil. The Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire and a questionnaire with sociodemographic and employment variables self-applied via Google Forms were used. The final binary logistic regression models revealed significant associations between those who received 3 to 5 minimum wages, without a marital relationship and with more than one employment relationship. Data suggest that these sociodemographic and occupational profiles are more exposed to risky lifestyle behaviors. The findings of this study demonstrated the need for greater attention to the health of health professionals in the pediatric field, as well as the promotion of initiatives that seek to value the work of these professionals and reduce the damage caused to their lifestyle, especially in a pandemic scenario.

The development of photoprotective products has been highly focused on natural ingredients, and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is also related to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are extremely damaging to tissues. Hymenaea martiana Hayne has flavonoids related to its pharmacological activities, but a flavonoid profile of this species has not been reported yet. In this context, this work aimed to perform high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-electrospray ionization-ion trap (HPLC-MS-ESI-IT) to characterize the flavonoids from Hymenaea martiana bark extract and develop a cosmetic formulation with photoprotective action. Total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, sun protection factor (SPF) and antioxidant activity of the crude extract were determined. An HPLC-ESI-IT profile of flavonoids was developed. Photoprotective gel formulations were developed with the extract of H. martiana. The highest content of phenolic compounds was found in the crude extract, followed by the ethyl acetate fraction. The total flavonoid content in the samples demonstrated that these are the major phenolic compounds. The crude extract showed significant antioxidant and photoprotective activity. A flavonoid profile was developed, and bioactive flavonoids reported in the species were identified. In the development of the formulations, it was evidenced that the addition of the crude extract to the chemical filter increased the antioxidant activity and FPS, suggesting a synergistic effect in the photoprotection. Formulation F4 was considered a promising product. These results show the cosmetic potential of Hymenaea martiana, thus justifying the development of a cosmetic formulation with photoprotective activity.

O presente trabalho busca apontar possíveis diálogos entre o campo de pesquisa Teatro e Comunidade e as ocupações secundaristas que ocorreram durante o primeiro semestre de 2016 na Rede Estadual de Ensino do Rio de Janeiro. Dentro dos espaços ocupados foi possível perceber que os estudantes ressignificaram a ideia de escola construindo práticas cotidianas a partir de seus próprios interesses. Nesse momento, o teatro passou a ser um aliado e muitos professores, artistas e simpatizantes das artes foram convidados pelos estudantes para propor encontros teatrais, como oficinas e apresentações de seus espetáculos. Perguntei-me qual pedagogia teatral um professor poderia propor dentro de um contexto tão específico para contribuir de alguma maneira à luta dos estudantes. Encontrei como resposta os estudos de Augusto Boal, Paulo Freire e pesquisadores do Teatro e Comunidade, que nortearam tanto as práticas teatrais desenvolvidas dentro das ocupações que pude visitar quanto a elaboração desse artigo.

BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional studies point out important evidence between anxiety and dyslipdemic disorders in health workers. OBJECTIVE: Our main objective was to estimate the association between anxiety and dyslipidemia in Primary Health Care (PHC) nursing professionals in Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil. METHODS: A confirmatory cross-sectional study involving 376 PHC nursing professionals. Data collection occurred through the application of a questionnaire containing sociodemographic, labor and lifestyle issues, and the Beck Inventory for anxiety; to evaluate the lipid profile, the HDL-c, LDL-c, and triglycerides markers were evaluated. Descriptive, bivariate analysis and Logistic Regression were performed. RESULTS: The estimated prevalence of moderate/severe anxiety corresponded to 26.1% and dyslipidemia was 54.8%, with a statistically significant association between both of variables stratified by physical activity (PR = 2.69; 95% CI = 1.87–3.85) and (PR = 1.87; 95% CI = 1.53–2.28). CONCLUSIONS: There is a positive association between anxiety and dyslipidemia in Primary Health Care nursing professionals.

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) is a neglected disease characterized by highest morbidity rates worldwide. The available treatment for CL has several limitations including serious side effects and resistance to the treatment. Herein we aimed to evaluate the activity of essential oil from the peel of Myrciaria floribunda fruits (MfEO) on Leishmania amazonensis. The cytotoxic potential of MfEO on host mammalian cells was evaluated by MTT. The in vitro leishmanicidal effects of MfEO were investigated on the promastigote and intracellular amastigote forms. The ultrastructural changes induced by MfEO were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The molecular docking of the major compounds δ-Cadinene, γ-Cadinene, γ-Muurolene, α-Selinene, α-Muurolene and (E)–Caryophyllene onto the enzymes trypanothione reductase (TreR) and sterol 14-alpha demethylase (C14DM) were performed. Our results showed that MfEO presented moderate cytotoxicity for Vero cells and macrophages. The MfEO inhibited the growth of promastigote and the survival of intracellular amastigotes, in a dose- and time- dependent way. The MfEO presented high selectivity towards amastigote forms, being 44.1 times more toxic for this form than to macrophages. Molecular docking analysis showed that the major compounds of MfEO interact with Leishmania enzymes and that δ-Cadinene (δ-CAD) presented favorable affinity energy values over TreR and C14DM enzymes, when compared with the other major constituents. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies revealed a stable binding of δ-CAD with lowest binding free energy values in MMGBSA assay. Our results suggested that δ-CAD may be a potent inhibitor of TreR and C14DM enzymes. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma

This research aims at evaluating prevalence and factors associated with metabolic syndrome (MS) in primary health care (PHC) nursing professionals. A multicenter, population-based and cross-sectional study was conducted in a team-tested sample of 1125 PHC nurses in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Sociodemographic, labor, lifestyle and human biology variables were investigated by mean of anamnesis. MS was evaluated according to the criteria of the first Brazilian Guideline for Metabolic Syndrome, which fully adopts the criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program&rsquo, s Adult Treatment Panel III. MS-associated factors were tested by using robust Poisson Regression. The prevalence of MS found was 24.4%, low High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol was the most prevalent component of the syndrome. In the multivariate analysis, physical inactivity (PR = 1.25, 95% CI = 1.02&ndash, 1.53), alcohol use (PR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.22&ndash, 2.77), acanthosis nigricans (PR = 3.23, 95% CI = 2.65&ndash, 3.92), burnout syndrome (PR = 1.45, 95% CI = 1.17&ndash, 1.81), (PR = 1.37, 95% CI = 1.12&ndash, 1.69), working as a nursing technician (PR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.14&ndash, 1.80), were associated to MS. It was found that the prevalence of MS was high, which evidences the need for interventions in the PHC environment, improvement of working conditions, monitoring of worker safety and health, diet programs and physical activity.

Essential oils (EOs) are volatile compounds obtained from aromatic plants that can act as modulators of neurological systems. Several neurodegenerative diseases have been correlated with changes in the cholinergic system. Myrciaria floribunda (H. West ex Willd.) O. Berg (Myrtaceae) was chosen to investigate its biological potential for treating neurodegenerative diseases. M. floribunda fruit peel essential oil (MfEO) was collected for analysis. In this study, the chemical composition and in silico acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities were determined. The results revealed the presence of 26 (96.86%) compounds obtained for GC/MS, of which the major compounds were the following: δ-Cadinene (26.8%), γ-Cadinene (15.69%), γ-Muurolene (6.21%), α-Selinene, α-Muurolene (6.11%) and (E)-Caryophyllene (5.54%). The ADMET analysis showed that MfEO compounds have a predicted lethal dose 628 times higher than neostigmine. The molecular docking results between the major components of MfEO and the enzyme acetylcholinesterase resulted in an average energy minimization of –6.6 Kcal/mol when the two structures coupled. In the assay of acetylcholinesterase activity, M. floribunda fruit peel oil presented an IC50 of 0.08 μg/ml and 23 μg/ml for commercial AChE of E. electricus and that extracted from C. rhizophorae, respectively. MfEO showed enzymatic inhibition and other relevant information of bioactive compounds. This study provides the first report of the chemical composition of the fruit peel essential oil of M. floribunda and highlights the promising results obtained through in silico analysis and the inhibitory potential of AChE through an in vitro assay.
