Tooth agenesis or hypodontia is a developmental anomaly, where there is absence of one or more dental elements. The absence of maxillary lateral incisor can be uni or bilateral, has an incidence of 20% and is more frequent in females. Is directly related to the establishment of malocclusions and aesthetic dissatisfaction, so it is important to evaluate multidisciplinary parameters for a treatment decision. The objective of the present study is to establish, according to the present literature, clinical criteria for the therapeutic approach of opening or closing dental space of the Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis. A systematized literature review was carried out in online databases: PubMed, Embase and Lilacs. Health descriptors and free terms were combined with Boolean operators to search: “Tooth Agenesis” or “Anodontia” and “Lateral Incisors” and “Treatment” and “Opening Space” or “Space Closure”. Clinical studies that presented diagnostic criteria and therapeutic possibilities for Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis, in English and without publication time frame, were included. During the clinical examination, skeletal, dental and periodontal parameters must be carefully observed. The intervention will always consist of a multidisciplinary approach, which may involve orthodontics, prosthetics, dentistry, periodontics and implantology for functional and aesthetic rehabilitation. The interceptive approach is based on early diagnosis and maintenance of the dental space, so orthodontic corrective treatment can be minimized later on. Late intervention includes closing the space with the reanatomization of adjacent dental elements or opening the space for implant and prosthesis installation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bulk Fill resins are a class of resin composites widely used today and have low polymerization shrinkage. However, these materials need an appropriate light curing technique to have good physical and mechanical properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the surface microhardness of Bulk Fill resins after their light-curing with two types of high-power light-curing devices, using three techniques. 30 specimens were made with a nanoparticulate composite resin Opus Bulk Fill (FGM) and were divided into three groups according to the device and intensity of light curing: Group 1 - light curing with the Emitter B device (Schuster); Group 2 - light curing with the Valo device (Ultradent) at Standard power; and Group 3 - light curing with the Valo device at high power. Higher values of top surface microhardness were observed in Group 3 (microhardness = 53.6 µm), followed by Group 2 (microhardness = 52.1 µm) and Group 1 (microhardness = 33.1 µm), with p values <0.05. Therefore, the Valo light curing unit, in the two powers used, provided greater surface microhardness for the studied specimens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To evaluate the physical and mechanical properties after brushing and microbial adhesion of printed resins (PRs) and heat-polymerized resins (HRs) for occlusal devices (ODs)., Materials and Methods: Knoop microhardness and roughness were evaluated in three measurements before and after brushing with detergent or dentifrice. Flexural strength and modulus of elasticity were assessed by 3-point bending, and the adhesion of Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans was evaluated by colony-forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL) and metabolic activity using the XTT assay only without brushing. Flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, and microbial adhesion were analyzed using Student's t-test, while three-way repeated-measures ANOVA with post hoc Bonferroni was applied to evaluate microhardness and roughness (p < 0.05)., Results: PR showed higher microhardness, lower microbial adhesion, and metabolic activity of C. albicans than HR (p < 0.05), which in turn showed higher flexural strength and modulus of elasticity (p < 0.05). There was no difference in the adhesion and metabolic activity of S. mutans or the roughness between the resins (p > 0.05). Brushing with detergent and dentifrice reduced HR and PR microhardness (p < 0.05); the use of detergent did not change HR and PR roughness (p = 1.00), and the use of dentifrice increased HR roughness (p < 0.001)., Conclusion: It was concluded that PR showed lower roughness and higher microhardness and lower microbial adhesion after brushing with dentifrice compared to HR. However, HR had higher flexural strength and modulus of elasticity than PR. Aim: To develop a β-AgVO 3 gel and evaluate its physicochemical stability and antifungal activity against Candida albicans . Materials & methods: The gel was prepared from the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of β-AgVO 3 . The physicochemical stability was evaluated by centrifugation, accelerated stability (AS), storage (St), pH, syringability, viscosity and spreadability tests and antifungal activity by the agar diffusion. Results: The MIC was 62.5 μg/ml. After centrifugation, AS and St gels showed physicochemical stability. Lower viscosity and higher spreadability were observed for the higher β-AgVO 3 concentration and the minimum force for extrusion was similar for all groups. Antifungal effect was observed only for the β-AgVO 3 gel with 20xMIC. Conclusion: The β-AgVO 3 gel showed physicochemical stability and antifungal activity.
